It was the barbacoa up until I tried the salsa verde chicken. I suspect the birria will be a new fave though! I always have one of these stored in my fridge or freezer for a quick weeknight meal since they are all favorites in my house!
As soon as I saw the tittle I knew it was gonna be a must have recipe. As a Mexican I’m embarrassed to say I have never made birria because of the hassle, and also how easy is to find it in taquerias- even though is not always as good as homemade. However, as usual, I am so excited to try this, you always manage to excel my expectations, always keeping the authenticity of recipes, but making easier and delicious. Thank you!
Wife shot me this vid as soon as we saw a new Leasa recipe was out. This was phenomenal. I’ve never had a taco with these unique flavors before. I’ve never had a bad recipe from downshiftoloy. Leasa’s upbeat personality, high quality videos, and recipes exploding with flavor is a true talent. You’re much appreciated. Thank you!
I love EVERYTHING I have tried that you make... THIS ONE... MMMMMMM, I cannot WAIT to try. My mouth is watering... I was first introduced to 'birria" just a mere six months ago. I FELL IN LOVE immediately, but I can tell your combination of spices and the onion cilantro on top will be EVEN MORE TASTY!!! THANK YOU LISA! ((HUGS))
So I almost never comment on a video but for this one I must. I have never made birria and although I see it often on various menus, I have never even tasted it. The slow cooker instructions here appealed to me to make for a football Saturday. From a trip to a Mexican tienda to gather some of the ingredients and several steps in between, I had my doubts. Ginger? Really? But I followed the recipe and WOW! You, madam, are a genius. thank you.
The fact that everything was clear and calming at the same time was amazing, but more so, you answered a question I had on my mind, that I didn’t think you’d even bring up. The storage 😮. I’m pregnant and was wondering if I made this if I could freeze it for later on in a few months… and surely you answered that. Thank you so much. Will be making this recipe today 🙏
I went looking all over for birria in LA. Prices vs. quality was unreasonable. So I went home and made it with bone marrow on the side. Best I’ve ever had for under $15 for 6 servings.
Subscribed! This is the first video of yours I've came across. I love listening to you talk - your voice and tone is so soothing. I wrote everything down as I am absolutely obsessed with Birria. Can't wait to try your receipt and watch more of your content! xx
I like your easy recipe for beef birria. It’s very similar to mine, except that I use whole spices that I toast and grind. I also use beer along with the beef broth. The main difference, though, is that I use chuck, ox tail bones and short ribs, instead of only chuck. I will be using your recipe if I ever need a shortcut or don’t have all the ingredients. Thank you!!
You must be doing something right Lisa; my mouth was watering as I was watching this. I first discovered Birria about a year ago when I stopped at a food truck in Salinas, CA, then took it to a nearby park to eat it as the sun was going down. Obviously, it made an impression on me!
I made chicken birria tacos for the the first time a few months ago and they were a hit with my family so I can not wait to make these beef birria tacos!🌮
I have made so many of your recipes for gatherings, and they are always a huge hit, very delicious and easy meal prep for larger groups. To keep them crispy, I was thinking of putting them in low temp oven as they are made, do you think that's the best way to keep crispy? Thank you, love your new kitchen, it's gorgeous!
I have made this twice now!!!! Absolutely wonderful!!! But curious as to how your juice is so thin after cooking, I blend on high for more than the suggested time but still end up with a grainy texture juice after cooking. Any suggestions?
This is a very delicious taco with enriched stewed beef! It tastes a little spicy flavor, I think. Love it very much! Actually, all foods depend on ingredients. Your recipe has this advantage. Thank you!
Absolutely loved this video!! I just saw a video of yours for pickled onions and immediately wanted to see more of yours!! I’m now subscriber!! This dish looks amazing!! Can’t wait to try it!! You are adorable as well!! 😊😊
You make cooking look so approchable, I always assumed this was a complicated and time-consuming recipe but now I can't wait to try it, especially because I live in Europe where there's virtually no mexican immigration so it will be my first time trying this, looks like we're missing out lol
Great, I don't think I have problem of making this later , because we have 2 & 1/2 Mexican grocery store within 3 miles ratio. But for this weekend weather report said that we have light rain and cooler temperatures so I gonna make your shepherds pie and beside my wife is coming home too from a trip to Japan with her girl friends it going to be a warm and closies dish for her.
Can’t wait to try this recipe. Have your cookbook, really a great one. Have enjoyed all your recipes. Can this be done in the instant pot on slow cook?
I haven't tested this in an Instant Pot, so I would look up a birria recipe that uses that for proper cooking instructions. But you can use the ingredients in mine!
Making this now but doing it in the oven in a Dutch oven. Can’t wait till it’s done. Question- the sauce left a tinge of color in my vitamix, container , any way to get this out? Has it happened to you?
Those are my new favorite things to eat ,i bought the birria bombs from tic tok shop and they were so good, but i would love to make the sauce from scratch and i feel confident watching your video ,thanks a bunch 😉 ❤😊
Looks incredibly GOOD! I’ve been searching for birria recipes and I will definitely try this one 😊 Maybe soon you can search a Sandwichon (sandwich that looks like a cake) recipe and share a recipe with us. That’s a recipe I’ve also been searching for but I have not yet come across one that I actually want to try.
😂😊 great making your recipe tonight to slow cook for the 4th tomorrow. We're so happy, we're gonna stretch it to make birria nachos and ramen. Sooo delicious in the crock pot, thank you, and serves 25 hopefully lolol
Lately, I rarely eat red meat but I need to try this spicy meat (I love spices) I hope I can find all those chilis here in Spain... but I will skip cilantro 😂 Thanks for the recipe Lisa 🤗
Im starving now for some tacos. Looks delicious and I know my teensgers will lovr this. I'm wondering can you sub out chicken? Or is there a similar dish like this made with chicken?
While a different flavor profile, my salsa verde chicken is also a slow cooker recipe and a big favorite! Give it a try: downshiftology.com/recipes/crockpot-salsa-verde-chicken/

Made this tonight following the exact recipe. The meat was delicious. However, the corn tortillas kept sticking in the skillet and falling to pieces.. Ended making birria nachos! Just piled the nacho chips on a baking sheet put that amazingly yummy meat on top and piled up the cheese….. baked at 400 degrees for 10 min. It was a hit. I need one of those non stick skillets!
Birria is made with goat and when you use beef it's called barbacoa. In our family we still calle it birria😅😊thanks for sharing your version because there more than you can imagine
Love me some slow cooker Mexican meat! What's your personal favorite - birria, carnitas, barbacoa or my salsa verde chicken?? xo - Lisa
Chili verde and birria, but ,I make all sorts of Mexican dishes.
It was the barbacoa up until I tried the salsa verde chicken. I suspect the birria will be a new fave though! I always have one of these stored in my fridge or freezer for a quick weeknight meal since they are all favorites in my house!

To be honest, I thought Birria was going to be difficult to make at first, but it’s actually not that bad! I hope you love this recipe ❤
I hope to god since you’re Mexican you make it the real way with goat meat and not beef
I like tittles

I would like to try this in an instant pot. How long would you recommend to cook for and how long for natural and/or quick release?
Made this tonight following the exact recipe. The meat was delicious. However, the corn tortillas kept sticking in the skillet and falling to pieces.. Ended making birria nachos! Just piled the nacho chips on a baking sheet put that amazingly yummy meat on top and piled up the cheese….. baked at 400 degrees for 10 min. It was a hit. I need one of those non stick skillets!
Birria is made with goat and when you use beef it's called barbacoa. In our family we still calle it birria😅😊thanks for sharing your version because there more than you can imagine
Have anyone made this in the oven? If so, what temperature and how long?..i dont have a slow cooker😢
Maybe Google average temps of slow cooker and set your oven to that temp or maybe a little higher
Made the birria tacos tonight and they are Amazing, but needed way more salt for our preference.
