      Practicing patience is definitely one of my more challenging goals, but i think I've been doing OK with it so far this year. Again, it has only been two months, though, so we'll see if I can say the same thing in October. 😅 Or at least until the SF pen show rolls around. Hope to meet you there, as well! Thank you so much for watching.

    Pre-Covid I went to the Michigan pen show specifically to shop the Edison Pens display. They brought 100s of their Signature Series pens that are not sold through dealers. Brian & Andrea Gray were so cordial. They will also custom make pretty much anything you want. If you haven't met them yet I hope you will get to meet them at a pen show this year. 🖋️🙂

      Edison Pen Co is just a hop skip and a jump away from me, so I'm always super excited to see the company name come up! Such beautiful designs! I have one of their limited run pens, but I haven't had a chance to go for a full bespoke version, yet.

    I went a little crazy a few years ago and wound up with about 20 pens - and every color of ink out there…then got a grip on myself and stopped. I do use most of my pens, but have found I only want to use blue inks, dark blues like blue blacks and deep muted teal blues. There are two pens that I would still like to eventually get - a Pelikan 400 or 600, and an Esterbrook Estie. And maybe another Benu. Oh yeah, and one of the metal Kaweco Sports for work. And maybe the Pilot 743?? And the Sailor 1911 Large Loch Ness Monster…and I love the Platinum 3776, I wish I had gotten the Piece of Heart model before it sold out, so kind of keeping an eye out for that one. Glad I never fell into the indie pen rabbit hole - they are all so pretty, but the nibs seem to be the same.
    My brother is very talented, he makes beautiful things out of wood…I showed him photos of wood block pen stands, and he made me one out of an old mahogany fireplace mantle he got from an older home. Better than anything I could buy online!

    • @snarkywordsworth
      @snarkywordsworth  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The pen from your brother sounds amazing!! I think that's why I've kind of fallen for bespoke pens - there's something very personal about them, just due to the fact that another human being physically made it and fashioned it into something beautiful. I still love my Pilots, Sailors, Platinums, etc, - this is just a fun new avenue to explore. 😍 And it's good that you know what kind of inks you gravitate toward. I'm a bit all over the place, but I do know I lean towards more muted colors rather than super saturated ones.

    Wonderful video…I am the same way. “Curbing the need for what I really want”…I really to work on this too. I impulse buy because I don’t want to be patient and save for the pens I really want. I hope make update videos on how you are doing because I would watch and would help me in the process. Thanks for sharing 😊❤.

      Thank you so much for watching! FYI, things are going pretty well as far as the whole not substituting purchases goal goes. I ended up with one slightly unexpected purchase, but it was for a limited item that was 100% in my aesthetic wheelhouse, so I have no regrets. LOL

    Oh so lovely to see your beautiful happy face 😊 I love your videos and find them very relaxing to watch. You did very well in front of the camera, so give yourself a pat on the back. I have only done one face to face video in a year and a half, trying to work up the courage to do another! I loved hearing your goals for this year, I have put myself on a low spend but with 3 new pens already purchased this year, I’m not sure that I am succeeding at my goal 😂 However, I am choosing any new pens with more consideration, research etc and not impulse buying. Stephen from Just Turnings is lovely to deal with. I have also met him in person and he is a great guy! Have a wonderful day/evening 😊

    Regarding Just Turnings pens, I believe he's got two main ranges. The Enceladus range is based on third-party blanks - Brooks Blanks, Turnt Pen Co, etc. The Mimas range is based on Stephen's own blanks. And then within both ranges, he's got the deluxe model (with finials, trim rings and clip) or the standard model (just the pen and cap). (He can also do a partway version with finials and trim rings but no clip.)
    I love Just Turnings pens; I have a couple and am planning a third! :) I live near him and our city has a monthly pen meet; being able to paw through his box of pre-made pens is amazing but so deadly to the wallet!

Have you tried the needlepoint by any chance? I've been waffling between that or a Pilot PO nib for a while, too. LOL😅

    You are great at face-forward video! Nice work with the inset pictures too. I have just begun to explore the independent pen maker space myself. Also thanks to @karynalovestoplan! I got a pen from Bart at @ZodiacPenCo that I just love. I’ve had him make another for me for a gift. This time we needed to try to find a color way and blank that fit the reason for the gift. It was so much fun! I’m also keen to add a Rockster pen to my collection this year. Keep well.

      Hello, Rachelle in Seattle! The Raven is so chic and minimal. It's like the pen world's equivalent to the perfect black turtleneck. Are you thinking about the cartridge/convertor or the push button?

    • @geslinam9703
      @geslinam9703 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ooooh no, not the first gold nib! When I bought my first pen, it was a steel nib, I spent months researching and choosing, and I was appalled at people who spent so much on gold nib pens, and swore I’d never be that crazy. Then I found a deal on a Sailor Pro Gear that was too good to pass up, a little over $100, and when I first touched paper with that nib, the heavens parted and the angels started singing and suddenly $300 for a pen seemed perfectly reasonable.

    I also have the white Estie with techo nib on my list. So pretty! The Shape of Hearts is so beautiful too, but I prefer the white or black ones ( so I'm one less competition for you to get your hands on the Chai! Lol). For hand turned pens, there are so many great artists out there. I'm considering getting one from a local person first, around Christmas or in 2025. Greats goals. This year, I want to enjoy the pens I have, so minimal purchases for me. Happy 2024!

      The black Shape of Hearts is lovely, too, so I can definitely understand wanting one of those. So classy, with just a touch of whimsy from the gems in the finial! Yay - I would love to say hi if you end up at the SF pen show! :) Love this video, you are such a natural infront of the camera 💕 I can totally relate on the product hyperfixation when you set your heart on it, I have been trolling vintage pens on ebay like a crazy person lately. I thought I really wanted to try one - but I think it was more of the idea of being able to get excited about something to put my shopping energy into rather than getting an actual pen. I have discovered that I kinda just like 'window shopping' online and most of the time I dont have to actually buy it. That being said, I do love a pen savings goal and I have a couple that I am budgeting up for now too :) Oh, also, I think I have the same glasses as you too, they really suit you 😊

      A lot of times, I feel like the window shopping aspect of things is my favorite part of the process as well. It can definitely be a bit frustration, though. 😅Was the a vintage pen in particular that caught your eye? I'd like to purchase one of his BYOP models; I have a Sailor 1911L with that lovely 21k nib that I want to combine with one of his pens. An Onslow from Walltown pens is also my list. I missed Philly and won’t be going to Baltimore, but I was thinking Ohio this year. I think it will be less overwhelming and better for my wallet.
