    I’ve just invested in the whole setup. Very happy with the quality of everything. The only thing that concerns me is the standard hex bolts. For a thief intent on stealing expensive quad lock gear, it’s a 5 second job with an electric screwdriver. I’ve invested in some security bolts but I really wish quad lock offered security bolts - even as a paid upgrade. Other than that, the stuff is well built and good quality.

    • @TheRiderGuider

      That’s a great suggestion. I think it’s something they should consider. They do have a list of small items, but not a security bolts kit.

    I've been impressed by QuadLock's customer service, and have their mounts on all my bikes. I did see recently though that the lead for the charging mount had melted and nearly caught fire on someone's bike. I'd be wary about having it permanently wired to the battery after that, and would suggest folk wire it via a switched connection, so it is only live when the key is on.

    • @TheRiderGuider
      @TheRiderGuider  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Trevor, not that I've noticed, however the charger has a discrete on/off button on the rear that I use to absolutely minimise any draw on the system when I park up and if the bike is parked for more than a couple of days I generally stick it on trickle charge. The only time I've flattened my battery is by accidentally leaving on the ignition after using the kill switch to turn the engine off.

    Hi, What is a good way of waterproofing the USB connector on the bike. Are there any accessories you can use to make the entire system weather proof. The USB ports on my bikes are exposed to the weather and have water proof covers. So the USB plug would have to be disconnected during heavy rain.

    • @TheRiderGuider
      @TheRiderGuider  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is a really good point if we’re expecting or expected to use a USB. I’ll give it some thought. I’m hardwired under the seat so pretty much weatherproof but I understand your point mate.

    • @TheRiderGuider
      @TheRiderGuider  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Further to that I suppose just a loose USB hardwired to the battery in a dry place and use the longer supplied lead?

  • @chocolate_squiggle
    @chocolate_squiggle 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    As I understand it the price has gone down - because they've removed all the power cabling from the bundle (the battery to SAE/USB).
    So now it's more weatherproofed but if you don't have the luxury of built-in USB or even a 12V lighter/accessory socket on your steed then you're shit out of luck - you'll have to buy and rig-up your own battery to USB supply somehow whereas it was all included in the old kit.
    Honestly I was about to drop a large order for several bicycle and motorbike mounts, the damper, a couple of phone case & universal attachments - was literally just trying to decide if the charger was worth it and that's how I ended up here. But after seeing a couple of videos on this product I'm really not sure about the company now. I don't like seeing them stripping back what you get in what is a premium priced product, it leaves a bad feeling. I always start to wonder what else they've cut corners on when I see this behaviour. Apparently the bicycle stem mount corners snap off after a while if you use the rubber bands so you're best using zip ties which limits it's useful mobility between bikes. I'm just starting to get the feeling the products are good functionally but for the price I want durability as well, and I fear that may not be all there. Anyway thanks for your reviews.

    • @TheRiderGuider
      @TheRiderGuider  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're right about that. The stripping of the USB. I had my old USB hardwired in so just plugged and played. Had no issues.
