- In today’s video, I am going to explain my views on both the new Quad Lock Mag Case and a case from the other big brand in the case market, Mous.
I have bought quite a few cases from both brands over the years but this new case from Quad Lock has ensured I will only ever buy from one of these brands in the future.

Guys... This video is nice but ends up with wrong conclusions, IMHO. If the takeaway is "with Mous case, it wouldn't have happened," it's wrong. The thing that matters is HOW the phone falls. I had the same iPhone back crack with a Mous Limitless 2.0 Aramid case. It fell pocket height, the very same fall but landed flat on the back. And... Crack. So... Use cases but take care of dangerous falling positions. Mous and Quadlock are all excellent cases, and you can pick and choose whichever you like. For example, I have Mous Limitless 3.0, but the new Mous Intralock cases lack support for a bike mount for my iPhone 12 Pro Max, so I'll go probably for Quadlock Mag. Keeping my Mous in case of need, of course :-)

Now each case manufacturer has no choice but the market using all of this scientific fluff.
We all already know that a thin piece of plastic and rubber has its limitations in terms of energy displacement at X density and amount.
There is no magic physics that will change this.
Reduce the bulk, reduce the protection offered.
95% of these cases are hot garbage and offer the amount of material equivalent to wrapping your phone in foil.
Case companies rely on people like you (sadly) blaming the type of fall and yourself for their inferior overpriced junk.
So you end up purchasing from them again because it only broke on the seventh drop. So it’s the universe and yourself to blame.
Not only that/side tangent plastic phones of the late 90s early 2000s many you could drop without a case and be fine…

They made thinner phones and those phones sold better. They listened to the market, not the people complaining.
Having been an Apple technician for 6.5 years, we would see this type of damage on a variety of cases. It is very unlucky, but it happens when your phone drops on or near the camera cutout of your case. This is an inherent weak point in any case, as it is near an opening in the superstructure which is designed to dissipate any energy from an impact to the edges of the case, allowing the energy to travel through the case instead before being transferred to your phone. If the impact is near this opening, the distance the energy can travel before being transferred to the phone is incredibly small compared to say, a hit in the 'middle' of your case.
An example for reference; drive a speedboat through a small canal and a lake at the same speed, and watch the waves in the small canal build up x amount of times the energy than the waves in the lake would have.
As camera setups on phones get bigger, this will be an increasing issue on all cases until someone finds a fix to successfully dissipate energy near the camera opening. Camera's used to be smaller or just single lense, so the cutout was so small it would not interfere with the energy dissipation capability of the case.
Or, if you will, in short; I think you got very unlucky, I don't think this is a Quadlock design flaw.
Thanks for the professional insight - I really appreciate it. I do think I got unlucky, unquestionably, but I still believe this particular case lends itself to the vulnerability more than the other QuadLock cases I've owned. Still, interesting to learn more about the energy dissipation.

honestly, I've still seen more iphones getting shattered glass on them than any other brands. my biased opinion is that apple phones are overpriced and mAyBe the guts are worth the money... the exterior still sucks big time. So... buy mous or quadlock or have granny knit you a pouch, an iphone will break first. change my mind.
Come on Berend, in one sentence you say it is a design floor & at the end you say its not a Quad lock design flaw, I get what you are saying but if Quad Lock did proper design testing this would not be an issue, It would be interesting to see what Quad Lock have to say about their poor design for this particular case.

I was an an apple tech also before moving on , after seeing so many, in every type of case, every kind of drop, every kind of scenario, we don’t need a PhD in Astrophysics to arrive at conclusion.

Absolutely toffee, depends on the drop. I've dropped my phone 100 times in a Speigen case and never a single blemish on the phone, then one day random drop from pocket height and back smashed.
There are so many variables with a drop and you come to that conclusion from one drop.
I know the circumstances play a major part in the outcome but what else can I do to create a fairer conclusion? I don't fancy dropping more phones to confirm consistency - it's a TH-cam video, not a controlled experiment with variable. All I can do is share my experience and let people make their own call.
I use a Quadlock case on my phones and trust them absolutely.
Had a motorcycle crash at about 80-100 kph and my phone flew off the bike upon impact but by S20 had no damage whatsoever. Using it now on my S23 which I dropped pocket height and still no blemishes on the phone or the glass back.
A few friends who own iPhones had their glass back cracked (regardless of what case they were using) and attributed it to the impact point which was always near the camera.
I do think the iPhone is more vulnerable than most, thanks to its design, but I still think the iPhone MagSafe case is flawed. Glad QL are working for you - they always did for me until this one.

Nice to meet you, too. That would have been nice, but sadly not. They did refund me and tell me to keep the case, along with asking for lots of photos and details, but that was all.
On the plus side, this video has had quite a few views so the revenue eased the pain of the £100 excess to replace the handset.
Thanks very much for letting us know about the QuadLock MAG case. I’m glad I never got one. My concern about the QuadLock MAG case in the first place was that it might interfere with the compass on the iPhone which is why I never got a QuadLock MAG case. However, I do have a QuadLock nonMAG case for my iPhone 14 Pro MAX. I have accidentally dropped my iPhone several times in the QuadLock nonMAG case and there is no damage what-so-ever. I found that the QuadLock nonMAG case is thicker than the QuadLock MAG case, so it has lots less chance of damaging the phone. I have 2 cases for my iPhone 14 Pro MAX. I have a QuadLock nonMAG case which unfortunately cannot be used for wireless charging (but I do use it in my bike). I also have MagSafe case that I put my iPhone in when I am not riding my bike. However, thanks for letting us know about that mouse case. That sounds better than the MagSafe case which I have got. Take care mate.

Glad I could help. I was, undoubtedly, very unlucky with how my phone fell and other QL cases have served me well so this could still be a solution for you if you need the functionality. If not, I really do rate Mous cases, as I have not had one problem with any of those.
I've become very disillusioned with Quadlock over the last year or so. My Huawei P40 was flawless in a Quadlock case. When I replaced that phone with my Samsung Note Ultra, I found the Quadlock case seemed to lose all friction over the case of a year, and whilst fine on the motorbike mount it spins randomly on the car mount and the weight of the charging lead was enough to cause it to spin out of the holder on a number of occasions. When I retired the phone last month due to cracking the screen (freak accident, not Quadlock's fault at all) I found an impact crack on the rear glass panel of the phone that could only have occurred when the phone was in the case. A little bit annoying, and on top of the spinny phone issue it has me thinking twice about buying a Quadlock case for my new phone - just found your video as I came on the hunt for reviews of the Mag system.
Sorry to hear about your experiences. You should share it with QL via Twitter. They say they are keen to hear all feedback so you could help improve future designs. I'll be sticking with Mous for now, anyway, but hope you have no further issues, whichever route you choose.
For the best of both worlds (mounting for off-roading activities like biking + MagSafe compatibility) go with Peak Design's Mobile cases and mounts. Their SlimLink mount even has the benefit of "no-twisting" to secure the phone on the mount. I also love their phone tripod, which is just excellent design in such a tiny form factor. The only downside's the cost. But lifetime warranty has been helpful since I've already had to replace a few of my PD gear over the years.
I’ll have to have a look. I bought into peak design on kickstarter years ago for my camera mount (still use it, still brilliant), so I’m familiar with the brand.
@@PaulsViewsReviews Please! Their Mobile series is hardly covered these days from many of the TH-camrs I've seen. A comparison between the three would be great, especially since PD's execution came out years before Quadlock announced their Mag line.

Interesting, I have the Quad Lock original for iPhone 13 Pro, but don’t use it as the case is so tight around my edge to edge screen protector that it lifts it/ removes it. Did you happen to test the MAG while using a screen protector? From what I’ve read is that they only fit the basic screen protectors.
I do have a screen protector on and the case did not interfere with it at all. It was close but not a problem.
I have worked with glass for a long time now and would say from the pattern created the initial point in which is broke and spread is the bottom right hand corner of the camera bump, there’s every chance it could have landed on a small pebble or something similar and once one part goes it will spread being toughened, just my opinion

The are of the impact is at the window of the cameras where the case extrudes outward like in the previous version on the centre of the mechanism and that is what made contact with the glass. The same happened to mine and you can clearly see that the crack originated from the middle. I would post a picture if I could.
I have quadlock for years already. Even needed to ship it to the netherlands when them just released. When is stepped of from samsung and went to oneplus and oppo i needed the universal mount for cases. But never had a issue
Me neither - until this case. The internal design is quite different and a cracked screen seems almost inevitable with the different component levels within the case. I hope you continue to have no issues.
I've had numerous quadlock cases for years. Currently had one on my 21+ since it came out, never had an issue until about a week ago, i dropped it and the back was like the iPhone. Up until then i always trusted my quadlock and now i am questioning it for my new phone that is coming in to replace my cracked phone.
I'm like you - not had an issue for 10+ years until this one. I have actually bought another QL case for my work phone since making this video but I'm still steering clear of the QL cases with added magnets for my own phone.
I forgot to click my mous intralock case in one time and got up to around 55mph on my motorcycle before it slipped off. When I pulled over to run out into traffic to pick up my phone the case was scuffed and cracked, the phone was in perfect order. Not a blemish. Mous all the was guys
I still rate Mous so highly! I will say that Quad lock have some amazing cases and accessories but this particular case I bought was a disappointment. Hopefully, they’ve fixed the design in the time since.

Been using quad lock case for all my phones. Dropped my phone several times while biking and has not damaged any of my phones.
Same here - until this one. The inside is not flush against the phone, with the mag safe elements sitting proud above the neoprene cushioning. The more I look at it, the more I think it is an inevitability that this kind of break will happen.

I had the exact same issue with my Otterbox Symmetry on the iPhone 13 Pro. Back smashed, but perfect everywhere else. So I’m wondering if the glass on the back of the 13 pro is prone to this.
That is a definite possibility. I do still think this case increases the risk, as my Mous case has not caused such damage despite being dropped, but you may be right.
Dropped my Galaxy S21 Ultra yesterday in my Quad Lock Case from like 3 feet high, trying to get it attached to my Motorcycle... long story short.. ZERO Protection.. the Phone Screen was Destroyed!! Had to go get a new phone. I was Pissed!! If Quad Lock could somehow work out a Deal With Other case companies like OtterBox..
Would have the best of Both Worlds. Protection as well The Quad Lock Ability.
About to buy the MagSafe, but now I’mon the fence. Do you think if I put a small piece of cloth between the metal parts of the mag case it would help with the absorption and save the phone? Would it be able to charge with an apple puck with the cloth between the phone and the mag safe part of the case?
You’d be compromising how snugly the case fits around the front bezel if you add something inside, so I’d suggest not. Plus, it won’t be enough to reduce the impact pressure points. If you really want the case, I think you just roll the dice.
Or buy a case from Mous or Peak Design, who both offer an alternative way to hold your phone on your bike/tripod/etc.

I had a Samsung Galaxy S9 with a quadlock case a few years ago and I smashed the glass back dropping it from about 1 meter height.
I since purchased the Mous limitless case 3.0 for my Google pixel 5 and I have dropped the phone countless times ( It even fell out of my pocket on my motorcycle at 40mph) and the phone is still in perfect condition and unscratched!
I will definitely continue to use Mous products.
Mous cases just seem to work better. I have stuck with quad lock for mounting my phone to my motor bike, as their mount system is very good and offers great versatility, but my phone is in a Mous case the rest of the time.
Hi I’m wondering if you put a thin piece of cloth like a cleaning cloth you get for sunglasses and put over that spot would it help? Or even a piece of duct tape?
I’d suggest probably not, as the fit at the front of the phone would be compromised by the extra depth. Plus, the height difference internally between solid and soft would still be there.
I'm curious if you've tried the new Mous mounting system yet. I used Rokform for an older phone, but I'm considering getting a QL case/mount for my new phone. But also kind of considering the Mous system. I've used Mous cases in the past, and loved them. QL appears to be more secure on the mount, and has the option for vibration dampening.
I have been tempted but haven't invested. Moss seem to be marketing it a lot more at the moment and I may give it a go. Since my phone was broken in the QL case, QL let me keep the case and refunded me so I actually keep the QL case locked onto my bike and use it solely for when I'm riding, leaving the Mous case at home. As you said, I do trust the QL can to hold onto my phone.

There was actually a time last summer where I kept my case on my bike too. Lol.
Prior to your cellphone breaking did you have any issues wirelessly charging with other accessories? I saw that you had issues with the Tesla charger but I am curious about the MagSafe specific wireless charging accessories. I’ve noticed that the wireless charging with my new case isn’t consistent with my iPhone 12 Pro. I have not been able to narrow down why. I’ve tried installing and reinstalling the case, various brands of charging accessories including OEM (Apple) and none offer consistent charging. I had no issues with my OEM Apple case.
Apart from in the Tesla, all other wireless chargers worked fine with the Quad Lock case. In fact, the original Apple Mag Safe charger locked on stronger to this case than any other case I have tried.
I highly rate 2 the cases I've used being Dbrand on my S20 Ultra and one I got from a phone accessory shop that was recommended by an O2 phone shop UAG (URBN ARMR GEAR) for my S23 Ultra.
I drop my phone more times then I can recall where it be little drops, flying out my hand and motorbike crashes. Other then very small cracks in the S20 Ultra backglass which isn't noticeable until you really look for them, both phones are completely fine.

Takeaway is avoid iPhones which is one of few phones that have glass front and backs.
…Unless you just prefer the OS of iPhones over Android, in which case buy a Mous case or the non-MagSafe Quad Lock case.
@@PaulsViewsReviews why would you prefer IOS to Android. You talk in terms of cases and preferring functionality and then say you prefer iOS to Android. Android lets you do anything and everything with your phone
@@antcox2006 It's actually that very open source element which has irritated me on the occasions I have wondered if I'm missing out and tried Android. iOS is not perfect but it is entirely functional without the hassle (or risk, I feel) of in-depth modification. I don't want the freedom to tweak everything - I just want it to work exactly how I like it, straight out of the box. Sound like a marketing slogan but, for me, it just works! If people prefer Android, great - it's cool to have options to suit all our preferences.
Thanks for the video. Like many of your viewers here, I've also used Quadlock for years and it saved my phone from certain death, many a times (S8+ and s10e). I just bought an iPhone 14 Pro and naturally need a new case for my new expensive investment as you called it. I immediately got suspicious of the new Mag variant because it was thinner. This got my wondering, if it had the same level of padding that surely offers more protection to the phone. In your opinion, is the original case safer? Is it just a failure of the Mag variant? Or is it your view now that Quadlocks (even the original cases) can't offer the same level of protection for iPhones as Mous cases?

The problem with the Mag version of the case, in my opinion, is the varying levels of the interior. The case isn’t thinner than a typical quad lock case - in fact it’s thicker because they have made it flat on the back; as they had to accommodate the Mag ring of magnets in there, too. In theory, this should make the best case ever if you want the functionality of quad lock and have a mag phone - I know I was excited to order it as soon as it became available.
However, in a simple design failure, they made the ring of magnets and quad lock mechanism higher than the rest of the case by a few millilitres on the INSIDE, by making the hard components flush with the uncompressed neoprene padding. They also did the same with the camera surround on the inside. As a result, if dropped, the neoprene padding compresses but these two, very solid pieces do not, putting stress on the glass rear of the handset. It is an inevitability that the phone will get damaged if it lands flat on the back.
As you will see if you check your old quad lock cases, they are equal level throughout on the inside. Why they made this case differently makes no sense. Therefore, after this potentially over detailed response, I would answer your question with a ‘yes, it is just a failure of the mag variant’. I do think the Mous case is better but, if you already have quad lock accessories and don’t want to buy into a new connection system such as Mous’ Intra Lock, I would suggest you buy the non Mag version of the quad lock. It’s just a shame you lose the great functionality of wireless charging, especially Mag Safe.
@@PaulsViewsReviews did you tell quadlock about your finding? A case with more than one hight on the inside will kill the glas on every drop. Even when not impacting the inside. I’ll try the mag variant for my arriving 14, but if it’s as you say it goes straight back.
@@Bhof11 Yes, they were keen to get as much information and as many photos as they could from me, when I reached out via Twitter. They took no responsibility, which I expected, but I did at least get my money back and they said I could keep the case. I’ve left it on my bike, solely for use when cycling but my phone is staying in a Mous case for the rest of the time.

@@Bhof11 I dropped my original quad lock case, and had the same issue. The phone looked great, until removing the case, where I found the back glass was cracked, albeit not nearly as bad as in the review.
Could this be the clips from the changeable magnet? From another review I saw it looks like the clips come all the way through the case and practically touch the rear of the phone?
Very possibly! The plastic does touch the back of the phone.
This happened to me as well!! The back was shattered. I told quadlock about it. And nothing happends! They dont take any responsibility for it even they claim that their cases were drop tested. Mine just fell when i was in the toilet. Can u imagine that height.

You should get your money back, at least. They gave me mine and told me to keep the case.
I had the same thing with mine… in an original quad lock case, it’s the camera bump twisting on the wrong angle from the force shatters it. I’m not sure it’s a case issue primarily.
There are likely a few contributing factors but this is the FIRST case in over 10 years of carrying smart phones in cases where the phone has been damaged by a drop whilst in the case. Literally never happened before. I can only put that down to this specific case design.
@@PaulsViewsReviews yes, I’ve used quad lock cases before on a Pixel and Samsung phones without issues … And I drop my phone … a lot … but my back glass looked identical to yours, it broke around the camera bump glass, I saw the phone fall and it landed exactly on the edge which would apply a twisting pressure right along the edge of that camera bump… so maybe they need to make the case a bit more compressible there?

I just bought this case for my iPhone 14 Pro max. Hoping the same thing doesn't happen, all my friends have it and cannot recommend it enough. I did notice on the back of your phone, the points of impact appears to be on the edge of the camera glass. I would suspect that when it's impacted the floor, the point of shock here has caused the crack around the rest of the back. Possibly a small stone/something on the surface when it dropped. Such a shame! Hope you had Applecare+ ...
Hi Craig. I am sure the case will serve you well. It's fair to say that I was unlucky. I still think the case design could be better but I believe most cases would likely have caused the same outcome, based on the drop.
I don't have AppleCare, sadly, but my insurance company replaced it because the shards of glass that kept appearing in my pocket were enough to justify it being more than simply cosmetic damage. Could have done without the excess but, hey, live and learn!
Came here as I just was just about to upgrade my Quad Lock to Mag. Used it with my iPhone 8 for years and many drops and I thought it to be great protection for my phone. Upon trade in I removed the case to discover the back of my iPhone 8 was shattered as well. Looks like it may be difficult to fully protect the phone back while absorbing shock? Why does Apple use glass on the rear of the phone anyway?
Not sure, beyond the aesthetics. I have never had a problem with quad lock cases or Mous cases before this, so it’s disappointing.
The back side of the phone needs to glass for the wireless charging.
for wireless charging it can't be metal, and plastic may look cheap? though it might be more impact resistant if it was plastic

I was almost ready to buy the iPhone 14 Pro MAG Case, but seeing your video I stopped, but beyond the damage that could suffer my € 1469 investment, even if it did not suffer a fall as it happened to you, it means that if the The inner ring of the case already comes into contact with the back of the phone, however, it will scratch it! A disaster!!!

What a shame when there’s plenty who have had this case with no issues
It was definitely an element of bad luck but also the mag case version of the Quad Lock simply isn’t as well designed as the non mag versions.
I’ve learnt, since making this video, that there’s quite a few people appear to have experienced the same outcome when they’ve dropped their phone in this particular case, but have always been fine with previous Quad Lock cases, just like my own experience.
Hopefully quad lock have fixed the basic design flaws for the iPhone 14 version. They were certainly keen to get as much information as possible from me when I got in touch. I have since got my money back and they have told me to keep the case, though they’ve made no offer to cover the £100 insurance excess. I’d have been surprised if they had but I have fitted the case to my bike and will not be removing it or using it anywhere else, as I simply don’t trust it.
I had the exact same thing happen to my iPhone 13 Pro when it dropped out of my pocket from a seated height. It was indoors and fell on a flat surface so I'm not sure how the whole back glass shattered. I'm now using a Mous case in the hopes that this doesn't happen again.😆
I have much more faith in Mous - hope yours works out as well as mine and keeps your phone safe.
Hi, Thanks for taking the time to post this video. Glass backed phones have intrinsic liabilities and it was unfortunate you had to suffer the consequences of those liabilities first hand. I do think folks must exercise some caution when drawing conclusions from a one-off experience such as yours. The advantages of the mag version of the Quad Lock case are significant and it seems a shame to forego wireless charging out of fear that the mag version will eventually result in death to the back of the phone. I watched this video (th-cam.com/video/cJqt6jbfYHE/w-d-xo.html) where a viewer put his own iPhone in a Mag case to the test by dropping it numerous times onto bare concrete. He dropped it several times hitting the case on the front, back and side. No damage resulted.
I saw that - I’m probably just unlucky!
@@PaulsViewsReviews Since I always have my iPhone in a case, a sexy glass back is of no interest to me. I never see it! I wish Apple would forego the glass back and use a more durable, but still classy material for the back of the phone that still allowed wireless charging. In the meantime, I will stick with AppleCare+ to give me piece of mind. I never get such insurance EXCEPT for my iPhone and Apple Watch.
Same thing happen with me i put on a quadlock case and hoped out of my car and it hit the ground and cracked my screen :( I drop my phone alot and the old case took it like a champ first drop with quadlock and crack im still using phone and case but cracks are growing.
It is annoying, isn’t it. Undeniably, glass phones add to the likelihood, but a case only has one job, after all.
So does it mean I should get the original quad lock case without MagSafe? I recently got iPhone 13pro. Had the quad lock case on my Samsung s20+ and it was fine.
My honest view is that if you need quad lock connectivity, avoid this mag case and go for the standard model. If you want Mag functionality but aren’t as bothered about quad lock compatibility, buy the Mous case.
Once I sort my phone and get my money back for this quad lock case, I’m going to buy another Mous case but with their Intralock fitting for my bike.

Pretty much, unfortunately.
I got my 14 Pro Quad Lock MAG case and I can say that the padding is a fraction higher than the hard plastic around the camera area (it is the same for the MAG area). If I press the padding then it goes deeper than the hard plastic, so it seems that the padding sits in a cutout of the hard plastic - this is even showcased in one of Quad Lock's images presenting the MAG case. You say that the simple Quad Lock case works and you had no issues with it, but I managed to get one, although for an iPhone 13 Pro, and it looks and feels that the padding behaves the same. It also sits in a cutout of the hard plastic... so it feels exactly as the MAG version. Is it not the same with yours?
Hi. My other Quad Lock cases are a couple of phone generations old (I moved to Mous from the iPhone X onwards) but they have the padding on top of all of the plastic and the plastic is the same level throughout, meaning no areas of solid material are proud of the padding when compressed.
Perhaps QL have started putting the padding level with the hard plastic surround of the camera since Apple made the camera area stick out so much? Either way, I really do consider it a design flaw and, judging by some of the messages and comments I have received, I'm not alone in my experience. Shame really.
Most importantly, I hope you have no issues and enjoy your new phone.
Same thing happened to me with note 10plus. Back glass shattered in a regular quad lock case.
The odds are stacked against us with glass phones but my Mous case has been dropped loads of times with no damage.
By a phone without a glass back, if your gonna put it in a case does it matter if it's glass or plastic ?
It’s a fair point. I wish manufacturers gave us the choice, as I’m not especially interested in a phone wrapped entirely in glass.

I can’t make a sense out of it. Got my new 14 pro case today. Same issue with the non flat inside. But the shatter in the video seams to have the impact right next to the ir sensor. Right of the camera bezel. But this would mean it’s not the issue of mag, it’s the issue of sturdy cases. My case regardless of mag or non mag has 2 or 3 mm space to the bezel. So it should not hit there when dropping. I don’t know that to to. Which case to return. Or maybe just get the Apple care. It’s so convenient to use the mag option with or without the ring.
An ex-apple technician left a comment the other day and said that the problem is largely due to the increasing size of the camera units and resulting hole in cases to accommodate, affecting the structural rigidity of cases. In which case, damage seems more likely in any case you might use and Apple Care might be the best option: if you can't prevent, at least you can repair!
I dropped my Silver iPhone 13 Pro Max in a Mous Case from pocket height as well and the same thing happened. The whole back glass broke plus the glass around the camera lens. I had to replace the back glass. So I think it just the phone.
I suspect you're right. The move to all glass and high camera units is a recipe for destruction!
Right I have the same case but I have dropped mines as well but it’s obviously something to do with the magnets right it’s got to be like you said in the video the magnets are strong maybe too strong resulting in gudder I’m now beginning to wonder if magnetic fields can crack glass I mean magnets closing in on glass you would think it would breaks it. But then again the case does not seem as if itSri into the phone. Good video. I’m looking for a conclusion why this happens. Hmmm

I think my break was a combination of circumstances, unaided by what I still consider to be a flawed case design. Mostly though, it is the handset itself: Replace the back with glass, fit three lenses and then make the camera area protruding & huge = HUGE increase in likelihood of breakage.
I don't think it is the magnetic field over the simple position of the magnets that caused the impact - they are too close to the body of the phone and under-padded. However, as much as I blamed Quadlock, Apple are probably mostly to blame.
Regarding your cracked phone, I suspect the Mag Safe charging surface (which is a hard surface in direct contact with the phone) on the case did not provide any cushioning impact to your phone.
My Quadlock Iphone 13 Pro Mag case would not work with my Apple Mag Safe charger despite my numerous attempt so this is disappointing to me as a Mag Safe charger. Reached out to Quadlock support and they replied me over email that some users did have some issues with wireless charging on the iphone 13 so it is a known issue and I was told to purchase their wireless charging head.
I totally agree - I am certain the mag element of the case and the hard un-cushioned camera surround, both of which sit directly against the glass of the handset, were the cause. However, I do think I likely got a little unlucky with how the phone landed and the glass back of the phone simply leaves you vulnerable to such situations, whatever case you're using.
I'm surprised about your problems with the mag charging. I did find my QL case grabbed the magnet on my MagSafe charger better than any other case. What I struggled with is that it either didn't work or had to be millimetre perfect in its placement to work on any other wireless charger. I couldn't get it to charge in my car at all. Either way, it was frustrating.
My experience with QL customer care was a bit mixed. They were slow to respond but did give me my money back on the case. They were, however very careful to accept no responsibility, which I expected as it would open floodgates if they did anything else. I hope you find resolution without spending more money - I found contacting them via Twitter worked best for a response.
I use quad lock and had my phone came off my bike a number of times (crashes during downhill MTB) and my phone was fine.
That’s great to hear. I agree that they have always made well designed and protective cases… until this one.
The internal components simply exert too much pressure on key parts of the rear of the phone when impacted.
Stick to a Quad slick case without her Mag element and I’m sure you’ll continue to have a good experience.
Would not normally click on a phone case review and it made me laugh. My suggestion would be to put the phone back in the original case and forget about the broken glass.
That’s my wife’s suggestion too. I’m still annoyed though so haven’t quite finished my rampage just yet.
I had a iPhone XR with glass on the back. Several falls with Quadlock even from the bike on motion !!!!!!!! And nothing happened.
Then, after 3 years the case started to fall apart and because I was nor riding anymore I got a case from
another retailer. First fall and crash, back glass broken.

the one job i thought was to lock your phone to your bike but yikes still. does your phone still work just fine because that just looks like iphone making a drunk decision making the back material more glassy like rather than idk aluminum like my old slider phones that never broke.
I actually got an insurance replacement (which this video covered the excess for, thankfully), as it kept leaving shards of fine glass in my pocket - not nice! I now use my Mous case for out and about and only use the QL case when riding my motorbike.
I do miss the durability of an old Nokia!
Dang. I just ordered my MAG case from Quad Lock yesterday for my iPhone 14 Pro. Do you think it has anything to do with the back part of the case having magsafe now so that might have contributed to cracking your phone?
Without a doubt - have a look through some of my responses to comments on this video; I've outlined what I think caused the damage and the Mag element and raised camera surround on the inside of the case are key.
gonna try mous. I like quadlock but i found 2 annoying issues
1. i have droped by Note 20 for a few times, everything is fine until i upgrade and sold the phone. I found out after taking out of the case that the corner has somewhat of a dent crease from impact. nothing on the outside.
2. quadlock plastic is just way too easy to get warn out. shinny where you hold it etc...
I made the switch a few years ago and really rate them. My phones have survived many a fall in a Mous without a single example of handset damage - and they look good, too.

@@vincent7603 Hi. When I contacted quad lock, they asked for as much information and as many photos as I could send. I provided this and they said that they could not offer anything other than a refund, which they sent. They also said I could dispose of the case myself, rather than send it back. Nothing more, unfortunately.
Not a big surprise but I am now £100 down, after paying the excess and getting a new handset on the insurance. Arguably, the damage was cosmetic but little bits of glass kept splintering off the camera area of my phone so it had to go. I don’t know if they have modified the iPhone 14 case to be level inside, but I’d be surprised.
As for the case, I’ve left it locked to my bike and will use it only when cycling and take my phone out and back into my Mous case as soon as I park my bike up. I trust it when strapped to my bike but wouldn’t risk another handset away from the security of the quad lock mount.

5:14 you say the MagSafe charges fine but did you try it over night? You’re the only person I’ve seen online say that the Apple MagSafe charger works with this case. Just because the magnet works and the phone says charging doesn’t mean it’s charging properly right?
Hi. Yes, I’ve tested it, since I saw your message, and it definitely charges all night until the battery is full whilst in the MagSafe case on the Apple mag charger. It’s a very solid connection, actually - takes more effort to disconnect it than my Mous case.

I believe you referred to Magsafe and Quadlock MAG as being interchangeable/one-and-the-same. They are different technologies so some of these tests and comparisons were not quite relevant. Still some good information and unfortunate for your phone's condition. That would have possibly happened in ANY case... not specifically the Quadlock case.

The functionality of the cases is compatible, and they market it as such, meaning the charging element works in most scenarios. However, you're right; I think this likely could have happened in any case, but the hard magnetic components pushed against the glass phone were the perfect storm.

Blame manufacturers of the phones who make the back made of glass, not the case.
There’s a joint responsibility on this one, but I don’t disagree that the manufacturers should make phones more durable.
Let's hope Quadlock fixes this design flaw. I've been using their products problem free for years and have a lot of accessories so I really don't want to change systems. Maybe I'll just order the normal case for iphone 14 pro max to be the safe side for now.

To be fair, this is a sample size of one. You can’t say the cases are bad just because of one persons anecdotal evidence. It could’ve been the glass quality, the angle which it hit or even made up (I do not think he’s making this up but it’s still a factor when looking at 1 story to prove bad quality in a product). There’s comments in here of people’s back glass breaking on the same phone with the mous. I would personally be looking at why tf does Apple put glass on the back of the damn phone in the first place?
Did you actually check if the mag case actually increased the battery charge, aka dit the % actually rise? I’m only asking because one of you fellow TH-camrs says does not on any MagSafe charger he found at all…. Quite a big difference. Did he get a bad case or did you assume the charging icon means it’s actually charging? 🤷🏻
Oh it definitely charged. I actually still use the case when I ride my motorbike using a Quadlock motorbike kit and the charge is always maintained.

A couple of people who’ve commented have had the same issue on the 13 case. Not sure if the 14 case is any different. Any case is better than no case, either way.

The regular Quad Lock cases have saved several of my phones many times. They all have a level interior to absorb the impact - the Mag version does not. Stick with the original and you will have no problems.

Can’t argue with that. We’ll never know the exact circumstances behind my phone break but the phone has now been replaced, Quad Lock refunded me, told me to keep the case and were very keen to get as much information and photos as possible, which is great on their part. Although there’s a few comments on here from people who had the same experience as me, I hope most don’t and their phones are nice and safe.
I will only buy the Quadlock case.
I've always rated Quad Lock - that's why I bought this case. However, be cautious of the Mag Case; the big magnets in the back make for a possible design issue should it land flat on it's back, which I have to assume mine did.

@@PaulsViewsReviews Bad design, mine cracked on the back on the previous version case which was slight extruded outwards, fell flat on the floor and that area that is extruded impacted straight on the back glass of the iPhone and cracked it all. Quadlock did not accept responsibility and clearly now with the mag case, which is new, not enough testing has been applied.
@@manuelgomes3421 that is what I have settled upon as the reason. The inside of the case is soft while the Mag bit is not but is the same level as the soft surround. Therefore, on impact, that is the only bit of the case not to compress, putting all the pressure on the glass above the centre circle. End result? Cracked glass!

I don’t think this is a flaw in the Quadlock case and portraying it as such is pretty disingenuous. The camera itself probably made contact with something and shattered the rest of the back glass. Any case would have this outcome if what I said is true
Thanks for commenting but there is nothing disingenuous about the video. The flaws are very specific to this case and not all cases would have created the same outcome.
The problem is with the Mag version of the case, in my opinion, and the varying levels of the interior. They made the ring of magnets and quad lock mechanism higher than the rest of the case by a few millilitres on the INSIDE, by making the very solid components flush with the uncompressed neoprene padding, as opposed to flush with the compressed neoprene. They also did the same with the solid plastic camera surround on the inside.
As a result, if dropped, the neoprene padding compresses but these two, very solid pieces do not, putting concentrated stress on the glass rear of the handset. It is an inevitability that the phone will get damaged if it lands flat on the back. In my case, if you follow the cracks in the glass, they originate to the bottom right of the camera, on the inside of the case and directly below the raised internal plastic surround.
If you check your old quad lock cases, which I'm guessing you have, they are an equal level throughout on the inside - exactly as they should be. Why they made this case differently makes no sense. I was really looking forward to combining Quad Lock and Mag Safe into one case but this was a simple error, which Quad Lock have been quite keen to learn more about, asking me for lots of photos and details before giving me a refund and letting me keep the case. Perhaps the iPhone 14 Mag case has been improved.

The Glass back of the phone is the primary reason I purchase apple Care +. They will replace that glass screen twice a year for damage. Worth the price in my opinion. I use the monthly payment so the coverage will go on for more than the two years. I'll stick to Quad Lock. Been a customer for a long time, and they are perfect for my motorcycle. Now with the Mag, it's even better with my 13pro max
If you have the damage cover from Apple, the benefits of the case are clear. The design is still definitely flawed compared to the other quad lock cases but I can’t argue with the functionality of quad lock and mag in one case. If they’d just made the hard internal components the same level as the compressed neoprene, as opposed to uncompressed, it would likely be perfect.

I got my money back on this case but quad lock said I could keep it, so I’ve actually left it clipped onto my QL mount on my bike, where it will stay: use that when cycling; back in the Mous case as soon as I get back home.

Quad lock has mag safe cases that are with the mechanism ordered mine and got it today and I have to say worth it but I’ve always thought glass on the back was stupid but it does help protect the inside but allowing force to be absorbed and allowing something to break but cases can do this with certain gel like material.
A strange property of glass however is that it “collects” any force that has been applied to it so even if you drop it consistently from the same height and it doesn’t break EVENTUALLY it will shatter.
I can appreciate that but this case has flaws in the design which will speed up that process. Mounting the mag elements on the inside of the case at the same level as the uncompressed neoprene case lining, as opposed to the height of the compressed neoprene, is just a recipe for damage. Likewise with the plastic surround for the camera cutout - the same height internally as the uncompressed lining. I am certain that design flaw caused the damage to my phone. No previous quad lock case (and I have 3 to hand) had these flawed elements.
@@PaulsViewsReviews well as an engineer I’d love to look at your mechanism under a magnifier and see where it went wrong and even seen what parts you got exactly as my set up has worked flawlessly. There’s sometimes defects and that’s not the companies fault unless they refuse to fix it.
I know I got the MagSafe case because I use MagSafe but I didn’t get the MagSafe charger and instead opted for the wireless charger that is actually more secure
@@Shadow_of_Christ the defect is not specific to my case, it is part of the design. If you have the case yourself then look at that.
Compare the height of the internal elements which are in direct contact with the phone and their different levels of tensility when faced with shock absorption: hard plastic, hard plastic encasing magnets and soft neoprene. The variances will put immense pressure on the phone where it is in contact with inflexible surfaces. One of these points is almost certainly the start point of the crack that ended up covering the entire rear of my phone.
I’ve noticed that wireless charging with this new case isn’t consistent with my iPhone 12 Pro. Have you experienced similar issues?

The phone is undeniably flawed by the vulnerabilities of glass but other cases I have used, including quad lock cases, didn’t get this result, so it is not the fault of the phone in isolation.
I think it is pretty clear that the cameras area got the hit... and unfortunately that one is unprotected. You were really unlucky, imo.
Actually, the main impact point was just to the right of the raised camera section, which was inside the case. The break point was caused by the internally raised plastic surround of the camera; when the neoprene compressed during the fall, the plastic cannot and put all the pressure of the impact onto that one point.
I was unlucky but the design flaw made the outcome considerably more likely.

I have multiple Quad Lock and Mous cases and they all have plastic surrounds near the camera but it does not protrude higher than the compressed padding; it is either level with the compressed padding, there is no padding and the entire interior is the same level or the padding goes over the top of the plastic. The Mag version of the Quad Lock case is the first case I've seen where the plastic surround is level with the uncompressed padding. It's just an odd design decision.

I could not see any difference. Might it be that you had a bad case? Anyway, my 14 Pro Mag version is on the way and I will reply with info regarding that area and at what level is the plastic compared with the padded area.
It took this guy 3 and a half minutes to actually start talking about the case the link was for and not until 8 and a half minutes (of 9.5 minutes) to get to the point. That’s 3-8 minutes of your life you’ll never get back.

cant really blame quadlock lock you have iphone made of glass eventually its gonna break no matter what case its in yes it might survive drop or 2 with no damage but its glass also you left out the main reason people buy quadlock to mount it not put it in your pocket and the charging wirelessly is added feature not main sell point of quadlock thats why they have original cases with no wireless charging there ment to be mounted in cars or on bikes or motorcycles off road vehicles so comparing it to another case and leaving that out seems you didnt really think this through very much can mouse case lock to your motorcylce or bike no will it protect from vibration damage no how can you leave these things out when breaking down if its good or worth it or better then another case when the other case doesnt even do the same things at all. hate to say it but this was garbage video

Hey. I think it is a mix of bad luck and the fact that the Mag case is different to every other QL case I've owned. There are differing levels inside and the magnet is a pretty solid component in the middle of a slightly flexing case. I have been assured that no case would have fully protected my phone from the likely angle of the fall but I guess I'll never know.
This video needs to be redone. You drone on and on and ramble about. Reorganize your presentation, get to the point and keep it relevant. Short and sweet is better then forcing viewers to try to pick out the important bits.
