  • Is The Military Moving You? Then Watch This!
    If the military is moving you, then you need to watch this! Learn about the disturbance expense (DE) which is paid to you when military relocation happens.
    Disturbance Expense covers a wide range of moving expenses. The amounts vary depending on the type of accommodation you are moving into. Naturally, you will receive more money moving into a house then if you were to move in Single Living Accommodation (SLA). You’ll also receive more money for moving overseas then if you were to stay within the UK.
    If you have children, then there is also an addition known as the Child Element. You’ll receive additional payment for each eligible child. An eligible child is one that is in full-time education and has to move schools due to the new assignment.
    There are many nuances to Disturbance Expense which I cover in this video. Who gets it, who doesn’t, what is a selected place of residence and why that doesn’t attract DE and so on. But this video is not a replacement for JSP752. For the most up to date and accurate information, then you should have a gander at that. A link is a bit further down in this description.
    If you don’t happen to use all of the DE when you move, then you are able to pocket the rest. But bear in mind, in the future the cost of a move may be more than the awarded amount of Disturbance Expense. This is why DE must be looked at over the course of a career and not in isolation of one single move.
    Enjoy this video on Disturbance Expense and if you have any questions, leave a comment down below. If you would like me to cover any other allowances, then please leave your suggestion down below as well.

    My regt is about to move the entire camp around to reorganise everyone into lines as they see fit (changing blocks and amalgamating people into single sqn block), does this count as a service reason to be moved between SLA within the same unit?

    Not necessarily related but do you happen to know the DIO policy on house size you are entitled to? For example I’ve heard rumours that if both partners are serving and have a child you are entitled to a 3 bed house due to the amount of issued kit etc you get and not wanting your newborn to be top flapped in your Bergen to sleep 😂 but if just one is serving then you only get a 2 bed. Is that duff gen or actual gen?

      @thesavvysquaddie  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the comment. At the moment, if you are an OR, your entitlement would be a 2 bed house if you have 1 child. If there is surplus, you can apply for a 3 bed and might get it, but there is no guarantee. I have not seen anything to suggest that the house would be bigger if both people are serving. That's not to say it doesn't exist, I'm just not aware of it.
      Things might change once the review for the Modernised Accommodation Offer has been completed.

    Can you do a video on the overseas vehicle provision. I believe it is around £1k.

      Yep, there's a video where I explain the different types of ISAs and I cover Stocks and Shares ISAs in that. Just have a scroll through the library of videos and you'll find it.

    We have been told we can't live in our current house due to damp and mould. We have been allocated a house on the same patch. Would this be a qualifying move to get DE?

    • @thesavvysquaddie
      @thesavvysquaddie  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      From my understanding of the policy, I would say yes. Because a mid-assignment move can attract DE if the move has been directed by DIO. Best bet would be to get it in writing from them, that they have forced you to move for the required reason, then take that to your HR to action a disturbance expense.
      I could be wrong but that is my interpretation of the policy.

    I've had DE approved for a move in to SFA on assignment, removals are taking around 3 days door to door. How would I claim for hotels on route? Pay upfront then claim back conventionally? Cheers

      @thesavvysquaddie  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      So when I did it, I approached my HR and they did the booking for me through HRG. It was all paid for then and there. So I didn't need to claim anything on that front. However, if I bought lunch or dinner then that would be self claim via Day Subsistence.

    Hi, I moved 5 1/2 months ago and think I am eligible due to family growing and moving to SFA. Have I missed the cut off or will it be able to be back dated?

    • @thesavvysquaddie
      @thesavvysquaddie  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm not sure if there is a cut off period after the fact or how long that period maybe. Best bet would be to speak to your HR or RAO to find out.

    Would I qualify for the SLA DE if I am leaving my family in a SFA due to children’s schooling and exams whilst taking on a role 70 miles away. Therefore, requiring to live married unaccompanied 😢 but using SFA for Family and SLA for weekly use.

    • @thesavvysquaddie
      @thesavvysquaddie  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is quite a nuanced question and I'll give you my educated guess but it could be wrong. Best bet would be either speak to your HR or email the allowances policy team for further guidance.
      Providing you have retained your SFA due to valid reasons, usually children in important exams is one of them, I would think you are entitled to the SLA rate of DE. This is because it's a qualifying move from one Residence at Work Address (your SFA) to your new RWA (your SLA).
      To me, it would seem you should be entitled from my interpretation of the JSP.

    do you know if I can delay entitlement due to kids being in their GCSE years?

    • @thesavvysquaddie
      @thesavvysquaddie  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'm not sure, that's quite a nuanced situation. Best people to ask would be the allowances policy team. Send them an email and they should be able to clarify that for you.

    If I am moving into a house from SLA to SFA due to a virtue of appointment house which do I claim?

    • @thesavvysquaddie
      @thesavvysquaddie  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That'll be the £1041 as it's done off of the accommodation type you're moving into.
