  • Is Joining the Military in 2024 Worth It? Find Out Now!
    In this video, I'll break down the points suggested by my Instagram followers, giving you insights shared by many within the Armed Forces on why you should join.
    The first big reason is financial stability. With a guaranteed salary that increases over time and subsidised accommodation (SLA or SFA), you can plan your finances with ease. For singles, living in SLA is a smart move and can leave you better off than 60% of the UK population in terms of disposable income. And if you have a family, SFA offers fantastic subsidies!
    Speaking of money, don't let anyone tell you the pension is crap! It might have changed over time, but it's still an excellent pension scheme - non-contributory and rock-solid, regardless of stock market fluctuations.
    Not to mention, the Armed Forces offer loads of allowances, bonuses, and benefits, like tour bonuses, help to buy schemes, and gym facilities. Plus, food is subsidised when you're on camp! And let me tell you, financial security during tough times, like the plague, is truly priceless!
    Now, moving on to education and development. The military is one of the biggest employers of apprenticeships in the UK, offering a wide range of courses, many of which lead to official qualifications recognised in civilian life. You can even get financial support for specific courses or a uni degree, with Standard Learning Credits and Enhanced Learning Credits.
    But it's not just about education; the Armed Forces provide tremendous sports and Adventure Training opportunities! Civvies pay thousands for some of these experiences, but you can access them almost freely. Representing the Army, Navy, or RAF at a pro level in sports is totally on the cards!
    The next reason is all about travel and adventure! Depending on your job role, you could visit various countries, experience different cultures, and get paid for it! Sure, it's not always glamorous, but the experiences are life-changing and unforgettable.
    Now, a word of advice: if you're not comfortable being away from home for extended periods, choose your unit carefully. And remember, being posted anywhere and deploying anywhere is part of the military lifestyle, so do your research!
    To sum it up, the Armed Forces offer unique opportunities, an amazing community, and personal growth like nowhere else. I've met incredible people and made lifelong friends! Yes, there are challenges, and not everyone has a perfect experience, but doing your own research and speaking to people can help you make the right decision for you.
    So, if you're young, seeking direction, or looking for an adventure, the Armed Forces could be your stepping stone to a fulfilling career and a financially secure future. Just remember, use your time wisely, and avoid spunking money on pointless stuff!
    If this video has sparked your interest in joining, there are loads of job roles available, not just combat positions! From cyber to diver, there's something for everyone.
    If you're considering the British Army and need a mentor, shoot me a DM or email, and I'd be thrilled to guide you!
    To conclude, joining the UK Armed Forces can be life-changing, offering financial security, personal development, travel, adventure, and a strong sense of purpose. Remember to do your research, weigh the pros and cons, and make the right choice for your future!

    The reason you should join is that you can buy a house fairly quickly whilst serving.. rent it out whilst your cost of living is like £90 a month for accommodation whilst you pull £1100 extra a month for rent. Or if you want to live in a house pay £250 a month in some fairly okay areas of the country. There is no such thing as cost of living crisis to squaddies at them moment. Some guys are even in full 2-3 bed houses for £60 a month all bills included!!

    • @thesavvysquaddie
      @thesavvysquaddie  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Definitely a successful strategy for many and knowing what I know now, if I could do it all again, I would definitely do that.
      However there is a cost of living crisis for at least some squaddies. Not a correct generalisation to suggest that there is not one for all serving personnel. There are squaddies who don't live in subsidised accommodation and are struggling to get by at the moment. And there are some who do live in cheap accommodation and are also struggling with the cost of living crisis at the moment. Some just aren't suffering as much as their civilian counterparts.

    I look after young people and encouraged 2 of them to join up (RAF and Navy) because I think it is a great career. Unfortunately after 18 months and 2 years respectively they have now both given up in disgust due to the poor communication, wrong information and administrative incompetence of the recruiters. No wonder the forces are struggling to recruit.

      That's unfortunate to hear and it's not a new issue either. I have heard many issues with the recruitment process. I can only hope that it's going to be reformed and/or improved.

    Hi Savvy Squaddie, when I was in my wife and child were all treated by military medical staff while serving in Germany and in the UK. My son was born at RAF Wegburg (Germany). All military medical staff are fantastic and we (my family) received very high standards of care.

    • @thesavvysquaddie

      When I was posted in Tidworth, the medical centre off of camp was also for families. Healthcare is free after all in the UK and that benefit would be extended to when posted abroad. Could be wrong though, but not aware of dental extending to families.

    The armed forces are and will continue to fall apart Ref: AFCAS. They need to heal and repair much of the neglect and issues caused by mismanagement over many years. The pension is Shit and I teach on this subject. It has been cut 2x inside of a ten year period meaning you work much longer for much less. Pension is poor when compared to before.

    • @thesavvysquaddie
      @thesavvysquaddie  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Please teach me on that too then. Would love to hear how it's shit. It's certainly not as good as the other previous scheme, but it's still much better than many other workplace pensions. A defined benefit pension is much better than a defined contribution, hence why they are so rare nowadays. Yes, the AFPS15 is not as good as it's predecessors but it is not a shit pension. Please change my mind but provide coherent fact based evidence in doing so.

    Would I advise people to join. There is a rather interesting question.
    No I do not think I would.
    My first advice would be to go to collage and get some training and re-education for something they like doing.
    If they have nothing else in life and as a compleat last resort then sure.
    Recruitment is a shambles phase 1 and most phase 2's are cut to the minimum.
    Leadership is more about brownie point scoring and dicking people with mind numbing no thought tasks that has more an attitude of look busy Jesus is coming. To say leadership is poor is an understatement.
    Trade qualifications seldom have civi recognition or very poor accreditation (see JSP 822) that only meets the service standard unless you are doing a degree or need professional registration.
    Taking leave outside of block can be a lottery and more how the boss feels that day.
    The up sides such as pay and pension are debatable given stagnation. But is ok given cost to live on camp. The pay is actually ok and if it is shit is more a subjective point of view.
    AT is ok but not really a bonus as trying to get on AT course's can be a pain.
    I could go on
    As for if I would go back hell no

    Another great video and I was going to pass this onto my socials however the bleeps and language have devastated the well put together information. I know you might be trying to appeal to a certain audience but I'm unsure if it's helping. Please could you do this again without the language. So I could share it to a wider audience?
    I swear like a trooper but in the right setting. Again great information keep up the good work 💪👍

    • @thesavvysquaddie
      @thesavvysquaddie  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Thanks for the comment and feedback.
      I understand that the swearing will put some people off and I am aware of the detrimental effects that it does have on my videos in terms of advertising and promotion.
      However, each one of my videos is scripted and I choose my words carefully. The swear words are in there intentionally and for good reason. As you said, it is to appeal to a certain audience but also, and more importantly, it is because that is who I am and when I created this brand, it was important for me to stay true to who I am and not reign it in so it would benefit me more with the algorithm etc.
      I fully understand the negative effects that those words have on a small minority of people and the potential future opportunities that could come my way but I continue to do it anyway because being authentic is more important to me and the majority of my audience responds positively to that. They like that I am not a polished professional. They are able to relate more with my content and it also helps separate this brand from the official Armed Forces brands making me more authentic and human.
      I genuinely appreciate your feedback and the constructive manner in which it was presented. I will keep your points in mind going forward but I will not be eradicating my future videos of swear words. I will also not be remaking this video I'm afraid.
      These videos take days to edit and I am able to see from my analytics from the channel that spending hours again remaking this video to exclude certain words would not be worth my time due to it hitting the right audience and being well received overall. The message is there and the majority of people are able to look past the swearing and some even enjoy it and appreciate it.
      I understand that is not the case for everyone and it is a shame you are unwilling to share this video to a wider audience as personally, I would argue, that the value in the content provided is more important then a few censored swear words.
      You are a man of principles and I respect that but so am I and I stand by the principle of being authentic with this brand.
      Thanks again for the feedback.
