I had really bad luck with my brand new 05 TL 6MT. It had issues from the first month until I finally got rid of it after 7 years with 65,000 miles. In hindsight, I probably just got a lemon. But that has turned me off from Acura for good.

My BMW, a 128i, is not only the fastest naturally aspirated 6-cylinder BMW ever built, but it is also the most reliable BMW motor ever built. It is used in the 1-series, 3-series and 5-series, which is to say, it is the most numerous BMW motor. The upshot is BMW doesn’t want a lot of warrantee repairs on its most numerous motors, so it makes sure they are reliable. My particular copy was special ordered with only 3 options, leather, metallic paint and 18” wheels, and the iDrive is deleted. It has the 6-speed. I’ve driven her from 11K to about 62K miles now, and she has been almost completely trouble-free! A couple of expected issues, the coils and the oil-filler housing gasket, and that’s it besides routine maintenance… I am very happy with my little bimmer.

I bought a newly launched Mercedes A180 at the end of 1998 (UK), sold the car in less than 4 years of ownership due to problems. Just after 3 years , fuel injector failed, rear axel cracked , rear coil spring cracked. The car carried me only most of the time ( 99% ) and I am not heavy ☺. Town driving only.
My present car is a Toyota which I bought new April 2009 , the only major parts replaced are Driver's side wiper motor and water pump. At present condenser of the Air Con needs replacing. I will replaced it in Summer. I vowed never to buy a Mercedes car after owning the A Class Mercedes.

The only one of these with which I am familiar is the BMW X1. It did not take me more than 120 miles to know that it was not a satisfactory vehicle. In fact, it used more fuel than the daily driver at the time, a 400,000 mile Volvo 240DL wagon. The only reason I rented it was that I needed air conditioning to take my mother to a medical appointment.

wow listening to you its shaky ground when picking your next vehicle , but back here in the UK for buying a discounted 1 owner 1 year old from a legitimate franchised dealership is peeps/company or private that have either reversed the mileage or put a mileage blocker on it till the vehicles first official service , so example is some vehicles have 12000 miles or 12 months or 24,000 or 2 years . The digital readout could be showing 2,500 miles say after a year but it could have seen 20,000 miles of driving. NIGHTMARE . certain companies supplying the blockers actually quote that it doesnt record the TRUE mileage and cant be traced by the ecu part.

In the first year these are alll under warranty and (often) maintenance plans. There is zero additional cost, so I am skeptical of how much long term maintenance costs affect a decision to dump a car in year one!! These are all entry lux models; my guess is people think they can swing that $599 a month lease and in a few months realize a $300 a month car meets their needs just fine.

Stunned. I was in agreement with the list all the way until #1. I have leased a new (service loaner) C300 every 3 years for the past 10+ years. I LOVE them and have never had a major issue with any of mine. Yes, service would be expensive were it not for the warranty, but the same can be said for all luxury brands. My dealer keeps trying to get me to move to an E class, but I love the size and handling on the C, so I don't want to make that jump and keep going with the C class. I've had far fewer problems with any of my MB's as opposed to the BMW's I've had in the past - which seemed to be in the shop every other month. Anecdotal, but that has been my experience.

The car has never had a problem. For maintenance, he uses an independent Mercedes repair guy. A man and his son. They come to your house or work to do most routine maintenance. @@ThisoldhikerIt’s a nicer car than a RAV4 for sure. In fact, there is lot of tech in the Lexus that is better than the Audi. I could live with the engine noise, road noise, modestly ok handling, etc. if the damn thing had some giddy up. At speed - e.g. from 25-60 acceleration - it was decent. But really a dull car overall. I will never go back to Lexus. MAYBE Genesis if I feel more confident about them. Never a Mercedes. I am not a big enough jerk to drive any BMW. If I had really deep pockets, I would consider a Macan. Best way to go is a low mileage, very recent vintage, certified Macan S. Besides oil change prices on those beautiful machines NOBODY is going to use the best oil for your car unless you buy it yourself and you see with your own eyes how the mechanic is putting into your car engine, so dealers and shop operators use a low quality oil or at least cheaper than the one you would buy for your car, increasing the possibility of more engine problems like those you mentioned.

Maybe you should've bought a Kia rather than that Mercedes. I've had three bought brand-new since 2012 and never had a notable problem. Minor stuff few and far between. Fuel pump went bad in the first a 2012 Turbocharged AWD Sportage, under warranty. Nothing else for the life of the car and traded it in 2016 for an identical new one. Second was a 2013 Rio. Had it for 90,000 miles without even a license plate light burning out. Sold it to my boss and his kid totaled it. Third is a 2016 Turbocharged AWD Sportage. Knock sensor went bad at 95,000 miles and was replaced. Nothing else so far.
All that compared to a 2011 Toyota Camry that we bought brand new in that year. Damned thing was leaking oil on our driveway because the robot that sealed the oil pan was out of calibration. Took it straight to Kia and traded it in. Bottom line is that any car these days can be troublesome. Depends on what robot was having issues that day.

Most of high end European cars, namely Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Jaguar and others are well known for their elegant, stylish looking and expensive. But their low quality and maintenance cost are just ridiculous. Only good for rich businessmen as they give them the ‘status’.

This is too bad regarding the Jaguar XF, Land Rover, and the Mini Cooper Clubman, all nice-looking vehicles. That said, the worst car I have ever leased was the Audi A6, a horrible car.

Yes sometimes, some of the coolest vehicles have big troubles. Sometimes its still worth it.
