    I'm buying this car for 1 major reason. Hyundai actually cared about how much fun the car is to drive rather than participating in the rediculous HP race between just about any brand producing hot hatches today. For me, the most important thing in a hot hatch should still be how much fun it is to drive on a daily basis. I don't give a shit about whether it has 275 hp, 310 hp or 400 hp.
    You buy a hot hatch because you want a sporty car that you will use every day. All other hot hatches seem to have forgotten that on 99.9% of public roads and daily drives you will not use the full potential of these cars. They have put all of their eggs in the basket of hp and that required them to put so much electronic managment in these cars that you feel completely detached from the car as a driver. Thank you, Hyundai, for giving us back the curvy road on hot hatches, rather than a boy racer made for 1/4 mile powertrips. Thank you for understanding that real driving pleasure is found in corners and not in straight lines.

      First thing I would do if I were you is get rid of the hideous logo that is Hyundai. The front look like a Mercedes and the rear look like an updated Golf. Congrats mate.

      Foreign Express Is that the update that VAG hasn’t done for many years now? I did remove the chrome and plastic dipped the logo black. Not because I’m ashamed, just because I don’t like chrome on a red car.

    • @sinclairjeremy
      @sinclairjeremy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Agreed. They're getting in the right people.... Hyundai/Kia got ex-Audi design guy Peter Schreyer in, and the modern Optima and others are way more interesting than most current "Balanced but dull" Audis. Now they've also got Albert Bierrman and look what he's doing! Not surprising these guys want to move either when they're getting such freedom of expression. This kind of competition will - as it improves over time, and as it has started to - push western manufacturers towards better products and be good for us all.

      I know the 3.3t will have problems but like how they did the 2014 2015 fix they passed porsche since their engineers fix problems faster than any other company.

    • @adambarrs92
      @adambarrs92 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The golf GTI isn't a serious competitor in the hot hatch market. The Golf R is but compared to the likes of the focus RS and the civic type R. Hot hatches have tiers and people always seem to confuse them.

    Wow! I've always had a soft spot for Hyundai as a company. When I was 6 (very earl 90's) my Grandpa took me with him when he picked up his brand new Hyundai Excel from Frankston Hyundai, 10 years later I learnt to drive in it and then owned a similar age Excel hatch as my 2nd car. This is very cool.

    Kudos to Steve & Evo for a proper review of a proper hot hatch, just love the accompanying throttle lift-off pops & bangs. As a BMW M2 owner, I'm keenly interested in this car. Sadly, most BMW M cars since the F80/82 M3/4 has lost their magic. It seemed that Mr.Biermann has done it again, albeit with a different brand. He truly is the man who can use magic and summon a car that's above the sum of its parts - be it E30 E36 E90 M3 or my favorite E82 1M. Guess this Hyundai is BMW 1M's front-wheel-drive stepbrother lol...

      I thought it was great. The alcantara seats were really good. And a bit of plastic where you as a driver dont see it is really not a big deal. VW does the same.

      The low price comes from not spending as much as others. The workforce is cheaper. The brakes, suspension is made by themselfe. They are not from a supplier like Brembo or Bosch or anyone other. They just are doing more themself. Also the production and logistic costs are less. But I believe also the margin. Because it really is positioned very smart. But still too expensive for me at the moment. In one year maybe. Or hopefully...

    Looks incredible! Shame they most likely won't be making it here to Canada! I ended up springing for the warmest iteration of this platform we could get, which was an Elantra Sport, the sedan body, not the i30 (Elantra GT is its name here). Same wonderful suspension and steering setup less the e-dampers, and no e-diff, and only the 201 bhp 1.6 turbo to play with. It makes for a very cheap and still VERY enjoyable daily driver that can still handle a tight backroad and put a big smile on my face.

    So much more fun than a Golf GTI. The car just feels brilliant. It's hard to put into words until you drive one. Clearly been set up and polished by people who love driving. Makes a Golf GTI feel rubbery and numb by comparison.

    • @mav3ric100
      @mav3ric100 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Surprisingly they are aiming at the GTI not the R so it probably won't be 300hp. But it wouldnt surprise me if this engine is tuner friendly. Would easily allow for Golf R or even hopefully focus RS numbers.

    • @ricco123tube
      @ricco123tube 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Abdelhameed Barqawi do they still make the veloster? Sold terribly in uk and disappeared within a year or two.

    • @abdelhameedbarqawi2907
      @abdelhameedbarqawi2907 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      A Coul im not exactly sure yet .. but rumors claim that there will be a regular veloster (150hp ) and a turbo one (245hp ) and they will use the genesis g70 \ kia stinger engine in the veloster N which will probably give the car an output of 355-370 hp and it will be a 4wd .. so i guess they are aiming at the gti + the r versions of the golf which would be exciting 👌🏻

    • @abdelhameedbarqawi2907
      @abdelhameedbarqawi2907 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ricco123tube lol .. over here in Dubai we dont really get the i30 but they give us the veloster instead , pretty sure that both cars has the same engine configuration and transmission , its just aimed at different markets , i30 is definitely more European and the veloster is more of a mass production .

    It's so sad that Hyundai is the only brand that makes A REAL sports car. I wouldn't say "forget about your GTI", it's more like "forget about your R8 and everything under 200.000 dollar". And all that "magic" Hyundai has done to this chassis is made a suspension kit that offers grip and loads the tires instead of comfort. Yes, your supercar is a comfort car and nothing else. :-P
    This cheap little i30 ie more serious than almost every car ever made.

    Looks and sounds like a fine effort from Hyundai. Great handling, fast enough, good value. What's not to like? If people can see past the badge this should be a good seller for Hyundai. If I was in the market for a new hot hatch, I'd definitely consider it. Good to see Steve on the EVO team and a great looking video by the way.

      I'm sure many people thought the same about the Golf GTi Mk1 back in 1975...from a company that only produced Beatles before that. That's why I think VW fanboys beating down on this car are pathetic. They would have been the ones bashing on the Mk1 back in it's early days and for all the same reasons they are bashing this car today. All while the 'early adopters' loving this Hyundai already would have been the ones that would have defended the Mk1 back then, for the same reasons they defend the i30 N today...if you understand what I mean :D

    Love the car, but when did the hot hatch start getting so heavy? My civic EP3 isn't considered light, and remember people saying just a few years ago it was a bit too heavy. But it's 300kg lighter than these modern hot hatches. What's considered a light car these days?

    • @kimmarcelo6131
      @kimmarcelo6131 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Mr Dayum Fine, the increase on weight is basically because the increase of security items. More enforced chasis, more insulation, many more automated features, more cables, more airbags, etc...
      I still remember my Ford Falcon 1985 I used to drive in Argentina. 3000cc engine sedan but only 1250kilograms...

    • @BlatentlyFakeName
      @BlatentlyFakeName 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      GT86/BRZ is under 1300kg and is considered pretty light for a modern car. Some of the contruction is aluminium but it also lacks sound dampening and other luxuries to achive it. Even the glass is thinner than normal. It's the safety requirements that make cars heavy.
