Hyundai garage must have lied to me they said I could have one in 3 weeks as there was a storage area in England full of them. Coming off the boat and not selling as quick as they'd like was the reason they said. They gave me some quotes and I understood why its not selling
I really liked the review, but I just can‘t understand the brand snobbery Hyundai is one of the biggest car brands in the world. All cars for the european market are engineered by germans Just take Albert Biermann who is responsible for some of the best BMW M cars out there. Just go to the VW configurator, take a Golf GTI and put everything in you get with the hyundai. It will be way over 40.000€, the Hyundai is way cheaper and the better performing car.
Exactly @Steven Strain. Perception alone literally means huge $$$ - just look at stock markets - or the high priced reliability hell called Land Rover lol But as the Hyundai brand continues to evolve, their prices are basically now the same league as their competitors, equal or more depending on options. Indeed the very fact that 'Hyundai' is even being discussed/compared/ranked or even cussed out so much now is proof they've won. Nobody talks about Tupolev as a Boeing competitor, they talk about Airbus, because they took on the giant with products that were consistently desirable enough to compete.
See the big deal about your comment is the last line... Usually it's "well the Hyundai doesn't perform as well, but it's way less expensive". With this car, now it's "the Hyundai is less expensive AND it performs better"
This comment is brand snob, I'm a VW GTI guy and I respect the i30N. It is faster than the Golf GTI and sounds amazing. Obviously the GTI is better quality and the best daily hothatch IMO. However Hyundai have smashed it with the i30N. Tbh brand snobbery just mean people are proud of their cars despite what it may be.
@@mattsamuels3607 thats not brand snobbery if you worked where i worked you see a whole new kind of brand snobbery. When my finance is up on my civic im going to see what i can pick one of these up for my go for the new fastback tho it looks gorgeous.
I got the 1st i30 and still drive it because besides some wearing parts there just has been a defective AC condenser within almost 10 years now. That's it.
I'm getting mine this weekend. Very excited👍🏻. I'm 6"5 and it's the only hatchback I can get a comfortable driving position. I visited a lot of dealerships over the last couple of weeks. Genuinely amazed by the i30N. Great review!
You should mention that the strut brace is removable. Also you seem quite tall, so you should give an indicator of your height so that people of different heights, who may have a nearer driving position or need less leg room can see if that would at all be a problem for them.
Good honest review, I have took the plunge and so far i'm very happy with my decession. I've had a Mk7 GTI and this though not as plush inside does bring back the kid in me. I would say drive one and you will be impressed. I got rid of my Merc for this so really not bothered about the brand snobbery. If it's good it's good period.
Great choice and well done. Enjoy the car. I totally agree with your views and the way the car made you feel. Without repeating myself, you may wish to see my reply to James Hibbert in the comments.
I don't know why the badge would put anyone off, I associate South Korean manufacturing with as much prestige as German. Watched this and your 'living with' video and I've enjoyed your review style; honest and to the point! Been eyeing one of these up for a while and I'm sold. Going from a 2012 Suzuki Swift Sport
Your reviews on this car have really helped me make my mind up. Im considering buying myself a hot hatch now as I've recently got a well paid job. I'll go test drive one and see how I feel about it
That skipping sensation you're experiencing in the damp is axle tramp. My Focus ST does the same thing when the front end loses traction under hard acceleration in the wet. Nice review, keep up the good work!
For the price point, it looks pretty damn good. You put a smile on my face just watching your video. Can’t wait to drive one. And this is just Hyundai’s first shot. We ain’t heard the last from them, that’s for sure. VW, watch out.
Honeslty, that was the best review I saw for I30N. These small details like the settings swap, the hopping front, the exhaust and etc, were really good, everything a petrol head needs to know when buying a car was there. And that exhaust.. probably the best exhaust I heard in a hatch so far! Big thumbs up for you
This car is exactly what the Subaru WRX did in the mid 2000s. Save cost on the interior but offer reliability and performance to outmatch it's competitors.
Not sure about your channel name but you are doing an excellent job in your reviews. They are mature, well considered and not just a hoon around a track. For a 40+ car buyer I think your reviews really give me what I am after. Only negative I see in the i30n is the interior. For the money I would expect something a little better. After 3 yrs of hard suspension on crappy roads that thing is going to rattle like crazy
As I write this, no idea. I've not got it yet, had a call from the dealer saying the car had been delayed due to Hyundai finding "issues with the seats". Make of that what you will.
Well, my I30N has been delivered to me this weekend. I've had it for 2 days as I write, and well, what do i think of it? Absolutely fantastic!! Well done Hyundai for making a car people will want to buy. A+
You're quite right. I do love it. It's been getting a lot of attention from people at work, and in the fuel station, and it's all been good so far. I am in love with it I must say!!
I owned a 1998 model hyundai excel sprint, lasted 19 years, never had any issues, currently drive a getz, 6 years no issues, to all the snobs hyundai makes reliable cars
Had mine for a week now and still trying to run it in, gutted we have to stay home due to the virus but when I have managed to get in it I've loved it. I like a car that is a little different to what other people go for and so far it seems I've made the right choice, I can't wait to take a drive to the beach and get some cracking and popping going.
Great review as usual Pete. Might consider one of these as it's a great Q car. I would expect great long term reliability and the warranty covers track use which might be unique. Keep the great reviews coming!
Good honest knowledgeable review as ever. I think that you summed up the pros and cons of the car well and it showed that you'd had the car a few days to get to know it. Sure there are some issues with the quality of the interior but I currently drive a Fiesta ST which is a classic example of Ford spending all the money on the driving dynamics and nothing on the interior save for the touch points. I get where Hyundai are coming from and at the price point I think it's a major contender for any driving enthusiast's money. After all, we all can't afford £40-50k dream machines. Sure it will depreciate but surely that's on the side of the buyer after 12 or 18 months and with a 5 year unlimited mileage warranty where's the risk? it's definitely on my radar and I think a test drive is a must. I've a hunch that it won't be long before it becomes a fairly common sight on UK roads. Thanks again, Pete for an unbiased view. Cheers
Love the video, been obsessed with this car the last year or so and now at 18 buying one in the next 2 months, insurance on these is shockingly low, same price as my fiesta zetec s 1.6 to insure😱
Good honest review and very interesting comments ! I really like the N and it’s a great package ..however you do get what you pay for. I’ve driven a mk 7.5 Gti on several occasions and the cabin / interior is so much better. The Gti feels a lot more premium especially as the N has a stuck on tablet. I’ve been a passenger in an N and it sounds better than a GTI and the pops out a smile on your face. The ride though in N mode was pretty unpleasant. The difference I found with the GTI is you can put it in its sportiest settings and it’s still a great drive/road car..and well damped for uk roads. Performance wise they felt the same and point to point you wouldn’t be able to split them. Both great cars and have their individual appeal to certain customers. Hyundai though I felt was a bit more rough and ready.
Petrol Ped lol! I just love all hot hatches and think they are great. The market is so competitive so I always struggle with comments that state “ one will destroy the other in every way “ I would say it’s pretty subjective of what people want in their hot hatch. Great content and will give you a sub 👍
Just got mine and I love it. Regarding custom mode, when you set it to your individual taste. It doesn’t revert back to custom settings when turned off.
Revisiting this video, now I own a 2020 I30N due to this review. I collected it in September and tracked it at Anglesey just after break in very wet conditions, the car was amazing. That’s another reason I bought it, track warranty, they want you to track it and cover you to do so. The axle tramping you get is present in the wet as you demonstrated, but I put this down to the P zeros if I’m honest. I found them quite good at Anglesey but I will be changing to Pilot 4S’s as I think they will almost eliminate the issue. It’s such a fun drivers car, the exhaust and customisation just make it such a good package. Facelift due soon and the new DCT option too. Can’t wait to see you review it and the new I20N that’s coming out.
I absolutely love my i30N. I get so many positive comments on it from people that have never seen one before on its looks and how they prefer it over the common golf R etc.
Having driven the i30 N, I found it felt absolutely brilliant to drive - an experience at 20mph or when putting my foot down. I also love being able to own a fast car that I can drive to a race track, thrash it, drive home and still have my warranty intact... for 5 years! Golf or the i30 N? Horses for courses but for me the latter everyday. Both are great though!
fredbrackely wow interesting... especially because at least from the reports I've seen VW aren't hugely reliable (www.osv.ltd.uk/are-volkswagen-reliable/amp/). The US definitely still had a better warranty than in the UK! www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/warranty/new-car
Really interesting review Peter. You’ve answered the questions I had about the car. Just one or two areas that I’d be concerned about - seat comfort on long journeys and the traction issues particularly. I’d definitely test drive one though if I was looking for something in this price range. Thanks Pedro!
After 1.000 km iam still pretty impressed of this vehicle, makes a lot of fun driving :) Iam still getting every time a smile on my face hearing those crackles, bangs and pops from the exaust :)
Great video again. Car seems pretty cool too! The badge for some reason will put of potential buyers off as did the Skoda badge even tho it's a VW. I haven't drove or seen on on the road yet. The type R as I have driven it twice, once on a rainy/damp day and was Superb!!! I agree the exhaust noise could be a bit better on the Type R! Plus you do get 5 warranty on the Hyundai. Big respect to Hyundai and other Japanese car makers for pushing the boundaries tho.
Good and thorough review, especially considering you were somewhat short of time. On the strength of this I strong-armed my Hyundai dealer into lending me one over next weekend for an in-depth drive.
Great review, I've been running a new i10 the past 12 months my first Hyundai and have to say any brand snobbery has gone out the window and that's running a BMW M140i alongside it. Hyundai deserve to do well as they are producing some really good cars now, you need to own and run one to appreciate this. I would consider an i30N most definitely however the front axle tramp is concerning, maybe a different tyre choice would help.
Hyundai have really hit the nail on the head with the looks of that car! I prefer the looks of that to the kia ceed gt it's got a real aggressive front end! Inside looks reasonable as well for the price. Perhaps not the fit and finish but the infotainment system looks the part.
Hyundai have been making good cars for years. I own a 2 liter coupe and it's great....stunning looks, solid build quality which actually feels better than my celica, taught chassis, suspension is a nice balance between comfort and tidy handling, pleasant interior with comfy seats, positive gear change and steering, strong engine and it's been totally reliable.
Last day in Hoi An BTW - you can buy an adapter off Amazon that you can plug into the diagnostic port to change the default settings in this and a lot of other cars I.e. the Custom set- up setting. It’s £27
Hyundai is a brand that takes care of its costumers, not like vw who are super overpriced cars, and i know what im talking about, i have been in a VW factory and the build quality... scary... defective parts all over...
Owned cc for 4 years with lots of problems, from engine to electronics. Will never go back to VW unless it produces something innovative. Their cars are overpriced, unreliable, ugly and unattractive these days overall.
@@shonc.100 They can do what they do because, at least in Europe, people will buy their cars over anything else, no matter the quality/price ratio. The Polo and the Golf were the two most sold cars in Europe in 2019. Just think of that.
The skipping part when its damp or wet the road it is cause by the tire trying to get grip so it creates a bouncy effect and that translate to big hits on the suspension and that punch is transferred to the body and dash board, Plus at the same time the traction control kick in increasing the bag when it apply the brake to try to get traction. Basically is a mix of events that create that, you can try getting a better tires for the rain to increase the wet performance but at the same time it will decrease the dry performance that you get with a ultra high performance summer tire. So nothing its perfect in any car.
Took me a month to get over the badge. I’m in the US so I get the veloster n performance package, yes i picked it up Saturday and haven’t looked back. Fun fun fun. You have to start somewhere and with 2 guys formerly of BMW M-series running to show, well this maybe more fun then we know.
The person who buys this car in my opinion wants the engine not the room or interior i see a lot of new tuners getting this as a good first affordable hot hatch.
Brilliant review. Can I fit a 12 and 14 year old in the backseat, day to day ? Just drop offs and school pickups. I’ve got a landcruiser for long trips away with family
Thanks for the excellent review.i drove one in dry and loved it. Comparing to other front wheel drive cars you've driven (i.e golf, type r , etc) . Would you say that it puts the powder down in the damp/wet well ?
Thanks for the info👍 Seems like a drivers car. I had a V6 manual, '99 Ford/Mercury Cougar and it would "wheel hop" under aggressive acceleration too. Takes away some of the potential "street cred" a front drive, hot hatch should have. The custom mode seems really intuitive, but like you Pete, it's frustrating how the radio presets never change, but the driving modes do. Come manufactures ... get it together!
What's it like on bumpy back road lanes,, i.e the type without a white line down the middle and lots of raised filled in potholes. The test roads seemed very smooth, is the suspension too stiff on those roads? Hyundai are introducing softer front suspension on 2019 models
A very interesting review as I am sitting here at 1.30 a.m. watching a very young looking Peter thinking should I pull the trigger and buy the one sitting at a dealer 20 miles away. You have put me in a quandary with the fuel consumption at todays prices. I nearly bought a Golf GTI Performance today but I wasn't impressed with it (or with the cracked outer shoulder on the front tyres looks like it has been driven hard although it was a 19 plate with 8k on it) compared to my JCW but all good things must come to an end sometime. I like the look of it and my neighbour has one and that note on the exhaust is in my opinion better than the pro exhaust on my mini. Maybe the new Fiesta ST3 is the way to go with the Performance Pack, if it is half as good as the previous Gen it will be brilliant. Thanks for the honest review as I value your opinion.
@@PetrolPed Sorry but I thought immediately that is a young looking Peter. You will probably not reply to my comments now. Lost the i30N x passed on 2 GTI's now. The hunt goes on.
Keeping in mind that Hyundai is NOT a luxury car brand, this is an awesome car! N stands for performance, and not luxury. To me this is kind of a "tweener" car. More performance than the GTI or the ST, but not as much as the Type R, Golf R or the RS. But the price also reflects that. Albert Biermann said it's about the way this car feels. I think they got it right!
I'm looking at a track hot hatch and this looks to be the best option out there. Good price, bullet proof engine, 5 yr warranty (I've heard they'll cover failures from track use too) and supposedly amazingly reliable brake system. Only thing that put me off was the seats, they feel weird to me and quite high.
No-one can give goods for free. For this car, they "directed" all their resources to driving pleasure and comfortable-sporty adaptive handling. I sat in the car at the dealer days ago, and the quality of everything you can touch matches the average quality of the B segment (Fiesta, Clio, and so on), so it's one segment below the i30's segment (Focus, Golf, and so on). The stock audio system quality is lower than that in the new Polo, let alone Golf. I didn test the climate control system, and it is not on an equal level with the Golf's, or the Megane's (again, it's more like B segment than C segment cars'). What you get in return is the maximum possible driving pleasure/price ration, and pretty good reliability as for the quality of the parts that aren't touched/seen all the time.
Axle tramp, can be fixed with urethane motor mount(s). Give it a few more month before they are available through aftermarket sources...they introduce some NVH though.
The I30N in preformance blue is a real looker, but that Micron Grey is subtle and those who are uninitated would think its just another I30 with red trim. 😊
Had a new Golf GTD 20 odd grand. Almost every time you set off some alarm went off warning you of a problem. Just outside warranty period sensors started playing up all over the place and needed replacing. Went for a service around 30000 miles and it needed £2500 spending on it. Damaged wheel on pothole £750 for 1 wheel from VW plus additional money for tyre. Ended up buying 4 lookalike wheels inc tyres for £800. Now have new Kia Ceed Gt with a 7 year warranty done 33000 miles no problems. Bring it on Kia, Hyundai etc value with bulletproof warranties.
Hi Pete, thanks for doing the review but few things you left out that would of been good to cover. Drive ability in bumper to bumper traffic, how the clutch feel? What does the rear passengers get? Any Center air-vents? Engine maintenance? Accessibility to the air filter and fuel injectors since this is a direct-injection engine.
Really enjoyed watching this and listening to you too, you're one of the few people who actually give an honest opinion and don't talk garbage when reviewing a car. I'm hoping an i30n will be my next car, I drive a Clio 182 at the moment which I'm really enjoying but I fancy something newer. You mention about it skipping in the wet, wouldn't this occur with any car in those kind of conditions? Also it could be down to the tyres too, I've never rated Pirelli tyres so I wonder what an i30n would be like with a better tyres such as Michelin Supersports perhaps? Anyway it was a good review so thank you!
Thanks Marc. The axle tramping can of course happen in any car but is more pronounced in this one. Interesting the the i30N Fastback doesn’t suffer nearly as much 🤔
Not a bad package for a mid 20's price point - I like that the Korean manufacturers will stand a 5 or 7 year warranty. Sounds good too. The front end breaking under load doesn't sound good though and the interior really lets it down. And the badge doesn't help either. That drive assist thing does my head in too - I understand it is an EU emissions thing. You just get used to jumping in the car and hitting Drive Select 4 times on startup.
Hi petrol ped one question watching the F1 on tv when the drivers are interviewed by the tv people before the race and after why do the have a person from the team with a tape /audio recorder in there hands recording every thing they say is it because they might say some wrong or untoward ?............. why are they baby sitting them its very odd................ please enlighten .
It's because they need to write these comments onto their own team press release. No use getting more comments, when the driver has already given interviews.
Went to have a look at one in person today, in comparison with the Polo GTi, I think the interior is actually nicer - the Polo has plastics on the door, the i30N I sat in had soft-feel dash and door panelling, it felt really nice to be in - I can't say I've sat in a recent Golf GTi, but the i30N was significantly better than I expected...very nice car.
Agree about badge snobs totally. My I30N made an Audi TT driver look silly when he got too close to the back of my car and I left him on the A46 near Bath UK.
Hey Peter, you don’t realise how helpful your review has been. My fiancée and me were considering selling my Lexus ISF (weekend car) and her Hyundai Veloster Turbo (daily car) to get an I30N that we would both share. I knew your review was coming out and I really trust your real life opinion on cars . After watching this I’m definitely not selling my ISF and my fiancée is more than happy to keep her Veloster. I appreciate its good value and it sounds and handles well but there’s areas you’ve mentioned that just fall short of our expectations.
Really impressed by this. Love that it actually has a mechanical lsd in it. If i were in the mrket for a fwd car, this would be my first choice without a doubt. Great vehicle here with the Hyundai. I like the interior greatly actually. Go sit in a Focus ST and try to complain about this interior. Did he really just criticize the steering wheel buttons colors? Petty
Great review as always and a good attempt by Hyundai but VW have had 40 years of practice so I’ll keep my Golf R at least until it’s replacement arrives. Carry on with the great reviews Peter.
Gareth Howells hey mate. It wasn't a golf R it was a gti. Golf R much more expensive. I30N compete against gti. And Hyundai is hiring engineers and designers from Germany. There is the main enginer guy from bmw M divison who is developing the N division for Hyundai.
Agree, its competing with a golf gti, and if vw were so good why dont they offer decent warranties giving customers trust in their brand. Ill stick to Hyundai (daily runner 4years ownership CRDI 136000km i20) best change ever from VW , and again if you are the type who drive cars 12months you cannot rate reliability by just taking it for a Sunday drive. VW is not what they were once upon a time.
with all due respect, mate, your dress code is exactly like the N's steering wheel :D Blue buttons for the blue jumper, eh? Nice and honest review tho, cheers.
Good honest review again, well done. Would still look to a Golf however if the interior and tramping issues can be addressed, then I think given time Hyundai will overcome the badge snobbery, and would be a welcome contender in the sector. I know this was a serious review but where was the hidden star Petrol Pooch?

Bmw not so 😂
Fantastic video and thoroughly enjoyed it. Very open and honest . Gave me plenty food for thought
Glad I could help 👍
Put in my order for a Performance model in Engine Red . This review got me hooked .
That time will come 🙏
Good call pal on the cars reverting to their manufacturers settings on ignition turn ons.
Great review as usual Pete. Might consider one of these as it's a great Q car. I would expect great long term reliability and the warranty covers track use which might be unique. Keep the great reviews coming!
Cheers Mike. Certainly worth trying one out. If nothing you will enjoy it :-)
Excellent review I like your honest and positive remarks
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it 👍
Good honest knowledgeable review as ever. Cheers
Thanks Ian for the constructive feedback 👍
Love the video, been obsessed with this car the last year or so and now at 18 buying one in the next 2 months, insurance on these is shockingly low, same price as my fiesta zetec s 1.6 to insure😱
Buying one at 18...wow ! Congratulations 👏
Mate, you should review cars. You've nailed it with this comment 😜😂
Petrol Ped lol! I just love all hot hatches and think they are great. The market is so competitive so I always struggle with comments that state “ one will destroy the other in every way “ I would say it’s pretty subjective of what people want in their hot hatch.
Great content and will give you a sub 👍
Just picked up my 2021 i30n in black on Saturday and wow I’m impressed
Just got mine and I love it. Regarding custom mode, when you set it to your individual taste. It doesn’t revert back to custom settings when turned off.
Thanks for letting me know :-)
Revisiting this video, now I own a 2020 I30N due to this review.
Glad to know you are enjoying the car 👍
Sounds and looks great, especially in that grey. And definitely the best road to try it on.
It’s a great drive Neil 👍
I absolutely love my i30N. I get so many positive comments on it from people that have never seen one before on its looks and how they prefer it over the common golf R etc.
Quality review as always
Cheers 👍
Having driven the i30 N, I found it felt absolutely brilliant to drive - an experience at 20mph or when putting my foot down. I also love being able to own a fast car that I can drive to a race track, thrash it, drive home and still have my warranty intact... for 5 years!
Golf or the i30 N? Horses for courses but for me the latter everyday. Both are great though!
👍
Funny thing is (at least in the US market) for 2018, VW has a better warranty than Hyundai (7 years 72,000 mile bumper to bumper, 100,000 powertrain)
fredbrackely wow interesting... especially because at least from the reports I've seen VW aren't hugely reliable (www.osv.ltd.uk/are-volkswagen-reliable/amp/).
Drive and be impressed 👍
The seats are very comfortable.
I just sold my MK7 GTI Performance and gonna pick up my I30 N Perf. in Micron Grey next week...:)
Nice...enjoy :-)
what do you think so far, for your new i30N
Agreed 👍
Good review on a under appreciated car.
Thanks Kieren :-)
Good and thorough review, especially considering you were somewhat short of time. On the strength of this I strong-armed my Hyundai dealer into lending me one over next weekend for an in-depth drive.
Nice work sir 👍 I filmed this whole review in 1.5 hours 😜
I, of course, meant test drive, not review. That's your domain...
Considering the slip diff feature, would it be advisable to hit sharp turns at high speeds?
Never hit sharp turns at high speed in any car ;-)
Great review, I've been running a new i10 the past 12 months my first Hyundai and have to say any brand snobbery has gone out the window and that's running a BMW M140i alongside it. Hyundai deserve to do well as they are producing some really good cars now, you need to own and run one to appreciate this. I would consider an i30N most definitely however the front axle tramp is concerning, maybe a different tyre choice would help.
Interesting comment. Thanks 👍
Great video Peter, I really like the i30n. I love an underdog. I'd really like to have a drive in one, could be an expensive test drive ha.
It could well be 😂
Hyundai have really hit the nail on the head with the looks of that car! I prefer the looks of that to the kia ceed gt it's got a real aggressive front end! Inside looks reasonable as well for the price. Perhaps not the fit and finish but the infotainment system looks the part.
Spot on 👍
Hyundai have been making good cars for years.
That is great to hear. Sounds like a keeper ;-)
Stunning looks? Really?
Anti-theist! They are a slick looking coupe...nice lines and correctly proportioned. Hammond amd Clarckson were enamoured with the looks.
Yea, they're definitely not bad looking, each to their own I suppose.
Last day in Hoi An
BTW - you can buy an adapter off Amazon that you can plug into the diagnostic port to change the default settings in this and a lot of other cars I.e. the Custom set- up setting.
It’s £27
Hyundai is a brand that takes care of its costumers, not like vw who are super overpriced cars, and i know what im talking about, i have been in a VW factory and the build quality... scary... defective parts all over...
nuno vicente those older VW’s are amazing thought.
Yeah turn the traction control off this issue all but disappears......or it does in any I've had that does the same.
Took me a month to get over the badge. I’m in the US so I get the veloster n performance package, yes i picked it up Saturday and haven’t looked back. Fun fun fun. You have to start somewhere and with 2 guys formerly of BMW M-series running to show, well this maybe more fun then we know.
Great cars to drive 👌
Wouldn’t put focus RS and a45 in the same league 🤷🏻♂️ Golf Rs and Audi s3s leave focus RSs. Saying that great review 👏🏻
Love driving that road between South Harding and Lavant 👍
The person who buys this car in my opinion wants the engine not the room or interior i see a lot of new tuners getting this as a good first affordable hot hatch.
Amazing car and great review😎
🙏🏻👍
Brilliant review. Can I fit a 12 and 14 year old in the backseat, day to day ? Just drop offs and school pickups. I’ve got a landcruiser for long trips away with family
Yes, absolutely :-)
Beyond than you expect!
Thanks for the excellent review.i drove one in dry and loved it. Comparing to other front wheel drive cars you've driven (i.e golf, type r , etc) . Would you say that it puts the powder down in the damp/wet well ?
It suffered from a bit to much tramping for me but that aside it was a very impressive car !
It is pretty stiff. Too stiff in N Mode that's for sure :-(
Hi Pete, another good video. Is that the mysterious Mrs Petrol Ped in the Fiesta at the 4.15 mark?
Not in this one 😜
Drove them back to back. Both manual. It shits on the GTI. Not even close
I don’t look that much older do I 😳
@@PetrolPed Sorry but I thought immediately that is a young looking Peter.
Did you know the suspension tune was developed in the Australian Hyundai Skunkworks ?
No, thanks for the insight :-)
Good video, nice description, like it ;)
Cheers Eric :-)
Civic: vtec just kicked in!!!
I30n : bro I'm already home
Hahaha yes!! Comment of the thread award 🏆
Don't worry in real life the Renault megane rs and type r were home already....
What the Megan rs that was beaten by the I30N in a car wow hot hatch drag race?
Erm no unfortunately. 100 times tried, fk8 will be home earlier
Pete if you had the money to a Hyundai i30N what colour would you have it in??
Pink
This one 👍
Axle tramp, can be fixed with urethane motor mount(s). Give it a few more month before they are available through aftermarket sources...they introduce some NVH though.
Thanks for the info. I shouldn't need to go after market for some thing like that though :-(
The I30N in preformance blue is a real looker, but that Micron Grey is subtle and those who are uninitated would think its just another I30 with red trim.
Bumper to bumper is pretty good. Stop start works well. Rear passenger doesn’t get a great deal. Not sure about engine access 😥
Favourite review because i have this car :)
Awesome 👍
Interesting the the i30N Fastback doesn’t suffer nearly as much 🤔
@@PetrolPed That is interesting, wonder why that is then considering they're the same car? You've given it a good review so I'm happy with that lol
In the early 90s my OH had a Škoda Estelle then 1.36 Rapid. I enjoyed driving the Rapid.
8:20 I kept waiting for the "and I'm such and such tall" had a quick look through the comments but couldn't see a mention how tall you are?
6ft 3 with a 34” inside leg 👍
thanks, wow that's deceptive, would never have realised you were so tall, thanks again from a new subscriber
My pleasure :-)
Not a bad package for a mid 20's price point - I like that the Korean manufacturers will stand a 5 or 7 year warranty. Sounds good too. The front end breaking under load doesn't sound good though and the interior really lets it down. And the badge doesn't help either. That drive assist thing does my head in too - I understand it is an EU emissions thing. You just get used to jumping in the car and hitting Drive Select 4 times on startup.
Is that right, I didn’t realise it was a regulation thing.
I think it’s just to cover there back in case the driver says something they shouldn’t 😜
It's because they need to write these comments onto their own team press release. No use getting more comments, when the driver has already given interviews.
So in all honesty what is the difference between the i30n and the American Veloster N? Would it just be the third door or what?
I'm not sure it's that simple. I've not driven the Veloster but my gut feel says the i30 is a better car overall.
Styling and amount of doors. Though, I prefer the i30N :)
Love my 2019 N Performance👍👍
I gather you can unbolt the rear strut brace if required, so it shouldn't cause too much of an issue
I’ve been told that since the review went live. Thanks for the tip 👍
I think it's a great spot to tie the dog harness to, so I won't be removing mine :)
Odds on this may replace my 2016 Polo GTi later this year, very well priced and I agree, that grey is fantastic!
Love it :-)
Hey Peter, you don’t realise how helpful your review has been.
The ISF Is a Great Fun Car and you could Daily drive it too
John Harris I’ve got a company van John, id love to daily it.
Gus Johnson so what is an Audi, but a vw in drag? Anyway, who cares what Australians think, you are irrelevant. 😁
Gus Johnson 😂😂😂😂😘
Glad to be of service 😜
Really impressed by this. Love that it actually has a mechanical lsd in it. If i were in the mrket for a fwd car, this would be my first choice without a doubt. Great vehicle here with the Hyundai. I like the interior greatly actually. Go sit in a Focus ST and try to complain about this interior. Did he really just criticize the steering wheel buttons colors? Petty
Yep I did ;-) Not the colour for me !
Glad you enjoyed my review though :-)
It's actually a color of Hyundai WRC cars - so it wasn't chosen by a mistake or accident ;-)
It does look a really good car but would still opt for the golf gti
Great review as always and a good attempt by Hyundai but VW have had 40 years of practice so I’ll keep my Golf R at least until it’s replacement arrives. Carry on with the great reviews Peter.
Get on off that high horse
Cheers Gareth 👍
I like to be colour coded ;-)
@petrolped you can unbolt the strut brace
I believe you can. Not sure you would have to do it that often...just for the occasional trip to Ikea !
Good honest review again, well done. Would still look to a Golf however if the interior and tramping issues can be addressed, then I think given time Hyundai will overcome the badge snobbery, and would be a welcome contender in the sector. I know this was a serious review but where was the hidden star Petrol Pooch?
She was chilling in the house 😂
@Petrol Ped,Is it better than the Focus ST 3 ecoboost spec wise and more a Focus ST killer than Golf GTI Killler?
I need to drive the ST before I can answer that question ;-)
