    I own an I30N also in white and have owned it for just over a year. Purchased it at 30k kms and It's at 45k kms now. Has been ultra reliable apart from needing the 5th and 6th gear synchros replaced under warranty. Love driving it and have done most of the driving in N custom mode. it's a great car.

    When car channels do a long term review, we are lucky to see 6 months usage (with hardly a mention of servicing experience), which is hardly relevant in view of a real world ownership.

    Wow. Thanks for your video @flipmyride. Very informative and humorous. I was looking at getting an i30 N fastback. Being a nervous cat already, in kind of a bit concerned now lol. Coming from an Alfa what I've been kicking $$ in quite regularly, I don't want another car that needs the same. Having said that, servicing costs and economy seem better than my current drive! Sound system is a bit of a worry (I didn't check that when I first test drove it) and the wearing interior is a bit of a worry. Given U funny change be cars often I hope this is going to still be a good long term purchase!! Thanks again!

    For all those with the windscreen noise, its actually the noise generator. It is a small solenoid/motor, whish sits at the bottom of the screen to vibrate the screen and given you more interior engine noise, AKA fake noise. Just disconnect it and it all disappears.

    • @FLIPMYRIDE
      @FLIPMYRIDE  ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting but the fix for mine was the foam around the bottom of the windscreen. It wears and then starts making noise so thin insulation is installed. Its in the skuttle plate area under the wipers. There's a few TH-cam videos on it. Simple fix in the end and under warranty.

      some niggly little things, start-stop system not working, the trunk often doesn't close properly, so the alarm is blasting in your ears. When I bought a car a week back the choice was between this one and the Audi S3. Loved the S3, but the dealbreaker was it didn't have a rearview camera, and it's not even possible to install one later.
      So I bought the iN. But the Audi is definetely the more sophisticated car in all. Then again, it's way more expensive. Take your pick@@philippeanglade7043

    Cheers for this, something I've wanted to know more about with the i30N's since I started looking at 2018/19 models 5 months ago. Reliability seems to be good so I shouldn't have any real issues going for a car around 40k-50k kms, if I end up splashing the cash (My 2014 Mazda 3 has no issues but I'd love to try one of these).

    What a find! I own a 2018 N which I bought (justifying to myself) in order to begin doing driving lessions (I do have my NSW Instructor licence, long story) so I got a bit excited seeing the instrcutor pedals! Didn't end up using it for that (though I still could) but it has basically become my daily so hopefully my Skyline can rest easy. Only difference is I got the Premium version which, for the slighty extra price, keyless/push button start, puddle lighting, electric seats, heated seats etc was a nice upgrade. And as-is I could probably even still sell it for a profit (crazy car market).
    Totally agree on your sentiments:
    - Have the same damage on the passenger door card, in what looks like the exact same spot. Was like that when I bought it (was an ex demo). Very weird.
    - The stereo is a letdown. With enough engine/wind/road noise (i.e. typically at speed) it's hard to hear even at max volume. Really sucks if you're the type of person to listen to podcasts and the like. I also wish the "speed camera alerts" were more customisable (I hate how it goes on for like 10 seconds when I really wish it could just play some kind of tone), and also even despite having the maps updated at servicing, the maps still don't have fixed speed cameras which I know exist.
    - The headlights also kindof lackluster. Having also owned a 2018 WRX and a 2020 Civic RS, their headlights were lightyears ahead (pun semi-intended)
    A couple gripes of my own:
    - The centre console thing sits REALLY high .. you get used to it I guess but still kindof awkward. This is no doubt true for any PD i30 not just the N but still wish it was just a bit lower for ergo.
    - The "Rev" button doesn't work in N Custom mode. Drives me nuts. A button which literally has one job, you press it, and the dash screen is like "Nup, disabled in Custom mode", telling you to use the headunit screen thing instead. Absolutely ridiculous. Especially when you would think that Custom mode is quite likely the mode most people will spend their time in and most likely want to use.
    But all in all? Great car. It does everything a spirited driver could want in a road car. It perfectly balances being a "modern" car with all the safety and luxury things you want, while still feeling like a classic mechanical pre-2000's car where you, the driver, are in control. All while still being inconspicuious, flying in very low under the radar, is still being plenty presentable for people who don't like or care for fast cars, and has the practicality of 4 doors, a decent boot and fold down rear seats. Beyond its quips, it really is the best of all worlds.
    Also apparently the "rice bubbles" windscreen noises is apparently a common issue, looking into it it's apparently caused by a wiring loom under the windscreen cowl (where the wipers are) that rubs and rattles around a bit. Apparently getting in there and adding a few cable ties to secure it helps fix the noise. I've not gotten around to it yet, but have been meaning to.

      @@FLIPMYRIDE Damn, nothing too bad I hope, and I'm wondering when the 5yr warranty is up, is probably soon for both your car and mine. My only gripe so far is whatever idiot last put the wheels on my car used a rattlegun with probably the wrong socket and f'd 15 of the 20 lugnuts. Hit some council-installed shit which blew out a tyre this Friday night just gone and wasn't able to get the tyre iron on so I could put on the spare and limp home. Luckily getting it serviced via Hyundai extended the roadside assist (They do this up to 10 years apparently) and even the NRMA guy who came out had issues getting it off. Still, wasn't happy! But hey, not the car's fault. Am tempted to follow your lead and get some slightly fatter tyres.

    I will keep driving Hyundai no matter others opinion... for the past 14 years they make me smile daily. My pervious car was a i20 1.4D drove her 300 000km in 6years. All original Zero warranty claims, self maintanance with only 5W30 throughout lifespan. Serviced every 12500km. Now for the past few years a Creta 1.6D 2019 Model A/T this time. Close to 70 000km zero issues or warranty claims too not even a set of brake pads as yet. We get them with a 7year warranty here, pretty sure they know what they do ill just be sure to stay with a torque converter auto and do all required maint when warranty runs out i believe dct has to much issues accross all brands. Love the i30n, hopefully your next is Auto then im sure it will be better than manual 🎉😊

    Test drove one of these at the weekend. Great car, fantastic fun to drive, the DCT auto box is immaculate. But, obnoxiously loud, so unless you are a boy racer that still gets turned on by that sort of thing, it would be a bit irritating to live with in a residential setting. I much prefer a nice note under load than a car that's popping and banging at 30-40mph. Also the firm ride, even on its softest setting, was way too harsh for the quality of roads near me. If you have nice road, no issue, you will love the handling.
    That all said, I preferred it to the GTI (nice but less character) and the 128Ti (terrible autobox, switch to FWD was a mistake by BMW for the 1 series)

    I have an MY20 Nline manual which is a great car for the price. Not fast off the line, but with the suspension and wheel/tire setup is great in the twisties around Mt Glorious and Mt Mee. I am as happy running around that area in the car as I am on my GS BMW. Standard tire size on the Nline is 225/40x18 and I am still running the standard Michelin PS4's at 40k km. with at least 10k km left in them. Wheel rotation and alignment is done every service. Pressures are kept at 40 psi cold, which is four psi up from placard pressure. As you have done, I am going up a size next time. I had thought about going up to 45 profile but maybe that would be a bridge too far regarding standing start acceleration, but it would at least bring the speedo reading back to what it should read. Realistically, I think I will do what you have done and go a bit larger on the cross section which will raise the profile just a bit and will stay with the Michies as they are a great tire. What pressures do you run?
    Yes, the clutch is very annoying and I have had my share of stalls trying to feed the power in slowly while bringing the clutch out. What I do now is blip the revs a bit before letting the clutch out which seems to work for me.

    Thanks, Adam. Good to get a rundown on a car that's been in someone's hands for more than just a weekend.
    We have its less grunty sibling (just a plain i30) that we bought off my cousin with nearly 40K on the clock, and 10K and a year later, we're very happy with it as Madam's shopping trolley.
    Other than regular services, it's been cheap to run and zero warranty issues. Regrettably, I rarely get to put it in Sport mode as Madam keeps insisting it should be in Eco. Bugger!
    Still, for a cheap car, the straight i30 is fun (for smaller values of 'fun'), good reliable transport and suits us around town. I can only hope for a more sporty set of town wheels next time around 🙂.
    18K for a set of rubber doughnuts! Ouch! Takes me back to my boy racer days and my 1275 Cooper S when I got through a set of Dunlop Aquajets in 8000miles.

      I owned a 2019 WRX after owning a 2005 WRX (highly modified) from new. I wish I hadn't got rid of the MY05 for the MY19 and regret selling it. I couldn't wait to get rid the MY19 and was waiting on the right car to come along. I now own the 2021 I30N DCT and what a car compared to the MY19 WRX. The only thing I miss about the WRX is the AWD. Apart from that it doesn't hold a candle to the I30N. The N has so much more character and is way more fun to drive. I am now back to looking forward to driving the car every time I get into it, unlike the MY19 WRX. Test drive both, but I think I know what the result will be.

As it is, it looks like my only option would be to buy the halogen headlights and exchange them after the retrofit.

    • @FLIPMYRIDE
      @FLIPMYRIDE  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are allowed to change tyre size to a degree. Many people put 18 inch wheels on. The tyres are only 10 mm wider and fraction higher. It may put the speedo out a little but more tyre wall protects from kerb damage.
