The whole Stalingrad thing, besides that one German soldier it probably would’ve happened, isn’t really true as every Soviet in the city was armed with a weapon no matter what, and the whole order 227 was only meant for commanders who made their men retreat without asking for approval.
In my opinion Colonel Churkin is by far the most hated character in the series, first of all since he's the Colonel he would be responsible for all those deaths in his men and was the one who caused the Lieutenant Lev Abramovich Isakovich to defect, which in turn put him into the penal battalion and in prison. But also the Colonel was the one responsible for the deaths of those Polish Partisans and even Lev's own men, and he just scoffed at the mention of them. And also redeeming himself in the end is just a hair too late because in the end his heinous actions are too much for his final sacrifice so in conclusion the Colonel is the worst.
Though there certainly are things exaggerated in this campaign, no one can deny Stalin's ruthless dictatorship and disregard for his people's lives especially during WW2. There's a reason why the Soviets lost so many soldiers and even more civilians during that time. Truly a horrible time to be alive on this planet.
7.16 min hard moment and feeling for this soldier who stood and watched his officer leave him alone ..... hard to believe that the your death gonna serve the motherland
Aw, indeed! If only they weren't always shot in their backs, had some ammo, and fought for their own lands, homes, and families..! Oh. Right. The game is just a piece of shit from a historic perspective.
Definitely one of the best campaigns out there in the genre. Campaigns like these always get overshadowed by games like battlefield, but they're still hidden gems!
We have proof, and even Russian chronicles, of using Human wave tactics, as well as blocking detachments that fired on Soviet Troops. Now, did it occur in Stalingrad? No, primarily because Stavka by that time had convinced Stalin to leave to war to them. But in the first months of the war, when Stalin was directly commanding the Red army, Barbarrossa was in full swing, and the NKVD was at the height of it's power, these things did occur. Especially in the first Russian counter-offensive against the Germans in 1941 that lead to the encirclement of over 300 thousand Soviet Troops. Blocking detachments where used to attempt to prevent the pocket from shrinking further, and where prevalent in the 29th Motor division. As for human wave tactics, they where used in Stalingrad, maybe not intentionally, but when you have the option of staying on the landing docks/beaches that are being shelled and bombed constantly. That or charging an MG position with the rest of the men in your boat to get out of the landing areas, you're gonna charge the MG, or get crushed by packed bodies or artillery. Without artillery, tank, or air support, you kinda only have the option of human wave esq tactics. We also know the Soviets purposely stopped a major offense during the Warsaw uprising, and refused to sent aid or material.
It isn't a myth. It did happen and russians even use these human wave tactics in Ukraine. The blocking detachments was a real thing, order 227. Wagner in Ukraine also used that blocking detachment tactic. Game depicts violency of USSR well, USSR has the most losses than any of the sides in the war, thanks to the higher up comms, "butchers", that never valued the lifes of the infantry. USSR drowned the enemy in own blood.
@@ivanonlyone7160 Order .227 is real but they don't shoot them, they just simply arrest them and transfer them to the Penal Battalion because they need every soldier The only difference between regular soldiers and penal battalion is penal battalion is treated like expandable used to clear minefields and also blocking detachment soldier are sparsely use
Tbh i don't think this game painted the russians in a bad light, in fact it showed that Russia's defense was only made possible due to sacrifices of their brave men..men who gave their lives in defense of their home despite the odds..it was only the commanders who deemed them as expendable resources..
The Lt was right. The Soviets defeated a tyranny only to bought fourth another. Thousands and millions of soviet soldiers died for their country, for their motherland. But at what cost? Their stories would never be heard, their sacrifices unknown were it not for the officers commanding them. Withbout people and journalists like the Lt, what would we have know about the men that Stalin used, disposed and wanted us to forget?
Here is something that might be a food for thought. What if Isaackovich's superior were actually anti-semitic, albeit subtle? I mean they might have kept him around for PR, making due with still-existing Jewish officers (500,000 of them; a few of whom are commissars), Isaackovich not being too vocal to his religion or not strict about his beliefs, and the fact that he is "one of the good ones" but still has plans to get rid of him. Edit: Or maybe they picked a Slavic-sounding name and doesn't realize the implication of "Lev Issackovich" as a hint of Jewish ethnicity to those knowledgeable about Russian Jews.
One question where did he go? I mean if I remember correctly Siberia was deep in Soviet territory it would of been possibly between 100 to 200 miles from the Soviet border, through the snow in those clothes?
@@wendigo-yt no, i mean theres a story of Poland POW who succeed to break out from Gulag in Siberia and he crossborder from the mongol to china but went to tibet due to Mongolia and china communist, he eventually cross in to india. This is from true story i think. But i dont know.
The part where they kill the soldiers for rescuing the Captain isnt realistic. You would most likely be awarded. Not killed. NKVD Officers are there to insure they stay loyal to the party. Not kill people because they desert their post. And plus its not desertion when they rescure their own captain.
Technically it is desertion, the captain would be assumed dead and they'd be given new orders. Abandoning their posts for rescuing a captain would be off-the-books stuff if it wasn't an order
What I find interesting is that they use Osttruppen, Russian nationalists that hated communism and sided with the Germans. The one Osttrupp in the fountain was speaking German not russian.
A more satisfying ending extension: At Moscow, 2 hours later "Comrade Stalin. A well known traitor, Lev Isakovich, has escaped from the gulag. Should we hunt him down?" Stalin: "No. He will be doing my glorious empire a favor. The millions who defended it from the Facists shall finally be laid to rest."
its not bullshit because how many games out there in the market make the soviets these war heros, this was a nice change in terms of ww2 campaigns and tbh i wouldnt say this story isnt like a real story but there were times in the red army that were like this.
realkaytlinidk showing Soviets as cowards? Soviets killing their own for no reason? Soviets that don't want to protect their country? Soviets betraying Polish? Yup. Pro-nazi bullshit
All true mostly. Only real mistake is showing how order 227 was put into action... it's not anti soviet and never was. ostfront was brutal where the ends allways justified the means, especially if your marshal was Zhukov ;)
@@alexeistrife56 it is not. It shows the true nature of USSR higher ups and commanding, and how regular people, soldiers, suffered from this. People from post ussr countries, who aren't affected by ru's propaganda "THE GREATEST, POWERFUL AND UNDEFEATABLE USSR" bias can confirm that. You clearly didn't get the morale of this story, which is "Despite terrible commanding and brutish attitude towards soldiers, the war still has been won, by real heroes - regular soviet soldiers". This is what message the game sends. It's even more clear in the final dialogues.
war hound I guess you would of preferred an SS soldier breaking into your house and taking you away to get gassed because there’s something slightly wrong with how you look?
war hound That wouldn't change much too be honest? The Allies would of just set Russia free from German control most likely like the did with all the other conquered nations. It would of just lead to more dead Russians, which from what I've got from this video it's not the soldiers that made the USSR evil. I have to admit though it may of prevented the cold war from happening.
@@UnderFried yes but if there leaders were killed survivors would be grateful for the saving of Russia and would 50 50 here but would become a democracy country
war hound I doubt it would of become democratic, just look at Vietnam. With so many communist supporters and only a small democratic political party leading them, there would surely be a civil war. And I don't think the soviets would be grateful for the death of their leaders that protected them while they're being sent on a train to Auschwitz.
Stalin was a massively paranoid psychopath, who was known before the USSR came to power as a criminal muscleman. Lenin tried to give him a harmless desk job as a secretary, but when he died Stalin used it to his full advantage and seized power quickly. He didn't particularly care about how skilled his officers were, he just cared about their loyalty. As a result, those who had even a shred of doubt to their loyalties were purged before and after WWII many times, with the only time that didn't happen being during said war. It ended up biting him in the rear later on, as he had all the doctors who could save his life killed, while he had a brain tumor killing him.
During 1932 there were the first purge order by stalin to clear any officer that still "loyal" To Russian white army but actually it was to send all Russian officer who still loyal to true socialist successor Trotsky which was a inside political struggle at that time. But his paranoia still exist believing that there are people who want to coup him, so after the war stalin order a second purge due to his worry those who are "heroes" That return home after the war will Revolt against him due to his incompentence in deciding order in war room that led the german almost took the entire western russia. His paranoia were still in play and there were third purge but was cancelled due to he himself died.
Under Lenin, the soviets. Under Stalin, I am not so sure. Only thing Stalin had better than the Tsars were an emphasis on industrialization, and better propaganda. Policy wise they were fairly similar.
In addition to the cringe-worthy fake accents, this campaign is filled with misconceptions and fairytale. I guess it's part of Relic's "the Germans were actually honorable, nice guys!" as seen in the Panzer Elite campaign.
The Germans were actually much better than the Soviets, this is consistent with the post war memoirs of De Gaulle, Churchill, and even Stalin himself. The dirty nazi mythology is a construction of American Academia to elevate Americanism above European regimes as the US spread its ideological tendrils across the world. To be against Germany is to be pro Colonialist and pro Imperialist.

I find it truly sad and tragic so many millions of people had to die for the sake of winning the war. Russia was capable of waging a better conflict and had the right tools. But the body count sadly speaks wrongly of that; that so many people died for the sake of defeating Germany. The message I wish was conveyed the most; was the fact that not everyone in the Wehrmact was evil; and not every Russian wanted to be a communist loyalist. There were tens of thousands of human beings on either side who had no choice but to fight each other and die. And for the allies.... America was no better than Germany; because we swept our crimes under the rug. There was a lot of humanity in the Eastern front; a lot of brothers, sisters and people who fought and died for so little. I hope one day that a conflict like that never happens again; because the Victor will hide the truth again and hide the reality that the good guys can't win a war without doing evil things. In WW2; the only good guys were the ones who refused to lie
@Mr. Cactuar yes I know that there are a lot of inaccuracies and I definitely know there still is a lot of anti-communist propaganda and stuff. That doesn't cover up the atrociously high body count that happened in the war.

18:57 My catchphrase in Russian accent "What in the name of God is that?"
The whole Stalingrad thing, besides that one German soldier it probably would’ve happened, isn’t really true as every Soviet in the city was armed with a weapon no matter what, and the whole order 227 was only meant for commanders who made their men retreat without asking for approval.
Shhhhh the Soviets where bad at everything they did they just magically won the war cuz America joined,Hollywood said so.
Soviet campaign's story remains relevant until today's war in ukraine

Aw, indeed! If only they weren't always shot in their backs, had some ammo, and fought for their own lands, homes, and families..! Oh. Right. The game is just a piece of shit from a historic perspective.
Iwor735 I didn’t understand any of that.
Definitely one of the best campaigns out there in the genre. Campaigns like these always get overshadowed by games like battlefield, but they're still hidden gems!
"Oorah" Activated
This game draws attention to Soviet crimes but it also uses alot of myths like the human wave tactics and executions through the blocking detachments.
And the allies providing them resources they badly needed
The main protagonist commander looks like Khrushchev character on Enemy at the Gates
I cried playing this game. The Sacrifice and death are beyond Comprehension
I love design of Lublin castle. It is like in real life
Played the entire mission with Ania only for them to kill her. Could have used her guaranteed snipes to my advantage but noooo.

He was a communist jew
*the end*
One question where did he go? I mean if I remember correctly Siberia was deep in Soviet territory it would of been possibly between 100 to 200 miles from the Soviet border, through the snow in those clothes?
He's Russian he would of survived the weather even in those cloths.

The whole cutscene is pure bullshit
Lev Abromovsky, you have been found as guilty for crimes against the state. The punishment is death.
Do you have any final words?
What I find interesting is that they use Osttruppen, Russian nationalists that hated communism and sided with the Germans. The one Osttrupp in the fountain was speaking German not russian.
“Let me introduce you to our Polish Comrades”
*You have angered the Poles*
A more satisfying ending extension:
At Moscow, 2 hours later
"Comrade Stalin. A well known traitor, Lev Isakovich, has escaped from the gulag. Should we hunt him down?"
Stalin: "No. He will be doing my glorious empire a favor. The millions who defended it from the Facists shall finally be laid to rest."
Saling was in Moscow not gulag
And lev isakovich was a prisoner so the guard will do the same to him if he try to escape
Salin dont care lmao

Well, relic tried their best to show as much anti-soviet propaganda as possible, and claimed it to be historically accurate, which is bullshit
its not bullshit because how many games out there in the market make the soviets these war heros, this was a nice change in terms of ww2 campaigns and tbh i wouldnt say this story isnt like a real story but there were times in the red army that were like this.
realkaytlinidk showing Soviets as cowards? Soviets killing their own for no reason? Soviets that don't want to protect their country? Soviets betraying Polish?
Yup. Pro-nazi bullshit

@@UnderFried I meant Russia loses then the allies win so no nazi no communist just free people ya putz
war hound That wouldn't change much too be honest?
At least they made peace and forgivenes in the end
24:36 why would stalin wanna kill off his officers?
The book was reported from stalin and lieutenant was one of his men.
He suspected some of his officers of being supporters of Trotskyism, therefore he purged off his officers that were suspicious to him
Extreme paranoia, purges were done before WW2 as well
Stalin was a massively paranoid psychopath, who was known before the USSR came to power as a criminal muscleman.

In addition to the cringe-worthy fake accents, this campaign is filled with misconceptions and fairytale.
I guess it's part of Relic's "the Germans were actually honorable, nice guys!" as seen in the Panzer Elite campaign.
Nick Werner The allies were no better either, they shot and bombed innocent civilians and then tried to pass it off as a mistake/accident.
Lol..Surelly the Panzer Elite were not the SS panzer Division..
We all have to take responsibility of our own mistakes
The Germans were actually much better than the Soviets, this is consistent with the post war memoirs of De Gaulle, Churchill, and even Stalin himself. The dirty nazi mythology is a construction of American Academia to elevate Americanism above European regimes as the US spread its ideological tendrils across the world. To be against Germany is to be pro Colonialist and pro Imperialist.

Or maybe he just ran over the border to India, or somehow got a fake Identity and got on a train to the west coast, going over to Hungary through the border. We dunno.
