You are not just a really good Knapper, your patter lines are the most informative and thought-provoking, and humorous on TH-cam. Hope you are around for a long time.
1:22:52 everyone who watches this channel learns something even if they don't want to. Thank you for the whole video. Final point would bring home dinner and some of the broken ones could too.😉
Thanks! Kinda newbie here. Already have a section of my patio full of flakes and many fails. After watching this , gonna be more conservative with flakes i keep. Amazing skill in your work.
I don’t have a shop or any real room for one where I live now. I knap in my kitchen on a 6x8 tarp when it’s dark or nasty outside. Sweep and dust after every session, but I still don’t walk in my kitchen barefoot lol I would buy 2-3 pads if you make some for sale. I’m sure plenty of others would as well. The rubber pad a bought is a little too big and I haven’t bothered with trying to narrow it. I just fold up my leg pad and use it for now. It works pretty well
I am knapping Dacite. Using an exact replica of your Aluminum bopper and getting good results. If I made a video, mine would look like a surgical operating room. Blood everywhere. I knapped without a glove. Stupid me! Knocking off big flakes from Dacite spalls has my hands cut up with Band Aids on deep cuts.
Should put the broke with it as a pair for the auction. Good work on the two of them. 👍 It's always painful to see breaks happen at the end of things, but it's reality. Keepin' it real.
I agree with Sticks, stone and a little metal too. You go beyond what would be asked already when you arrive a really beautiful triangular stage, and going that little bit further (putting notches in for example) and wind up breaking the piece. The craftsman in you gets you to a certain point where many would be happy with the results.... the artist in you pushes you a little further or sometimes too far and winds up in a broke. Don't get me wrong it's not a bad thing, but sometimes there's a point when you say "good enough: Stop!" Lol...ignore me I'm just ranting. Great video as always!
I want to try this with my little boy ..Geology is one of passions just don't really know where and what materials to find and use ..Dacite that stuff is beautiful man .If you get a chance give me some pointers on where to find it .
@@KnapperJackCraftymy brother was in bend Oregon over Christmas maybe I can get him to send me some small pieces. Thanks for the reply .He lives in Olympia
A hunting point appears long before the beautiful even flake pattern with thin deep notches if you stop at the hunting point your success rate will be a lot higher. Now if your knapping for art you have to go way past the usible point stage
Nice! I love how you turning little flakes into exquisite pieces! As for two attempts with broken sides is it possible to turn stem into little triangular shape? Something like you did with rework in 1316-1317 videos? Well most probably it is easier and faster to make new one of better material rather than rework these.. but as you say, everyone wants to see your tortures with pain-in-butt cases. Lol. You produced material for another challenge :D

i know what you mean about the wrist ,i have two screws in left elbow ,it puts a strain on my arms but knapping is a lost art

Mr owl taking the shortcut “chomping to the center” is the flake over grind methodology as applied to knapping…
Interesting thought
Alright flake knapping! Just what I wanted to see!
Thanks Jack I wondered if people used small flakes .
Yup. Sure do.

That rock is crispy
Good word for it
Patrick why didnt you use your aluminum on that brittle crunchy rock?
I did use the aluminum
@@KnapperJackCrafty oh i thought it was the small steel one, sorry

Vermont!! Yes!!
Heehee. 😁
Isn’t that what super glue is for? 🤣😂🤣
One of my first experiences with super glue, when it became popular, was when somebody superglued a penny to my windshield.

It was easier to make an arrowhead with a pointed stem, but I prefer to stick with the original goal.
Happy New Year Mr Crafty, im gonna have 5.5 to 6 ft black locust staves in a week or 2.
Thank you. That's awesome
nice job ! i like this small stuff
Progress not perfection)., half measures avail us nothing….🙏🏽👏🏽, point of the story
1:03:23 maybe hunger drives risk taking.
Risk taking due to hunger does not yield art. IMO
@@KnapperJackCrafty it depends on how they liked their steaks. Getting that right doesn't need an artistic point to produce.
@@marycomeau9364 True
@@KnapperJackCrafty IMHO I think your art points are sexy like the shark harpoon.
@@marycomeau9364 In that case, I'm going to have to make more.
Success may be a little wonky, but on the end of a river cane shaft it would kill a deer plumb dead.
Yup
I havent watched the big biface yet but that stuff looks very crumbly
JJ has 2 original videos that are edited to new videos every other day, so with your 1300 real videos you have infinite edits available

Dude, why did you move to Vermont?
I go where I'm needed. 😁
JJ been doing same video over and over doesn't seem to slow hì channel down
If you can't make one of these pads... and you want to flintknap... lol
True, or no?
You have to FOG those matched sets.
That's what I hear.
Lol. Basket
I prefer your smaller stuff as I see no use for the big stuff no mammoth or elephant hunting where I live.
Didn't expect to see so many failures. You must not be using the right tools. Either that or you don't have good coordination.
All of the above.
@@KnapperJackCrafty lol still better than i could do though.
