    I was at a yard sale last summer and a woman asked me if I wanted 4 boxes of vhs tapes and my first reaction was NO WAY. She asked me nicely as she needed to get rid of everything. I gave her $10 even though she didn't want it. I let them sit for a few months at my mothers home in the basement. I finally started going through them and wouldn't you know I had a sealed Star Wars Red Label. Looked it up and it was going for about $7k. I ended up getting $3.5k and I kind of wish I held out a bit longer, but oh well! Love your content!!!!

      If it was first edition, but no red seal it would have not sold for more ?

    • @berniesanderdoll1035
      @berniesanderdoll1035 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@liebepug7757 the first edition/release came out in 1982 and did not have the 'red label' and is the most valuable right now. you can get $40k to 70k for one sealed in excellent condition and graded. from 1984 to 1986 it was re-released in two different red label packagings (which is what it sounds like Jersey Picker had), those are much less valuable but still of very nice value. All the releases after that aren't worth much yet.

    I sell VHS on ebay. I had to learn a lot. 1st Release is the most valuable so check the "Package & Design" copyright date on the box, if that is the same or really close to the copyright date for the movie's release, then it's likely 1st release. The watermark is important because anyone can reseal a tape and it happens a lot so be careful. The watermark proves it was factory sealed.

    It still blows my mind how much some sealed VHS tapes can go for. I recently found a bunch at an estate sale and was lucky enough to be the first pair of eyes on them. Scored a couple red HiFi label Star Wars tapes...SEALED. Sold one already - had a slight flaw to the seal but still made $$$. The other is still up. Takes a while to sell the high dollar items sometimes. Thanks for the tip on the ET tape. ^_^

    Do the watermarks have to do with the earliest production of the tapes and thats why you see it on some?

It still has the battery & film in it. Film advances & it takes pictures. Flash doesn’t work. I think because the battery is too weak. Going to buy a new one. @@goldenstatepicker Thanks so much! Btw, I suffered all my life with allergies. I had a little wheeze too. Eventually, I had a bad asthma attack on a back ride, not knowing I had allergy induced asthma. I was miserable for years. Also, the left side of my sinus was blocked & I had to have surgery. I finally saw an allergist again, had another scratch test & religiously had five years of allergy shots. It wasn’t a big deal for me because the nurse at my work gave me the shots. Anyway, I see how miserable you are with your allergies. Any kind of wheeze is asthma. I highly recommend the allergy shots! I've probably sold 20 bibles since I learned the tip from you, anywhere from $25 to $150. the Annie that has value is the one released in 1983 by Columbia Tristar, that's the original VHS release tape. The 1985 version/release has some value. there are numerous other releases of the 'original Annie' in later years by the studio, but they don't have value yet even sealed and watermarked. Man, I have been having bad luck on DVD/VCR combos at garage sales lately. 4 in the last two weeks were not working correctly. I am learning that if you ask the person giving the garage sale if the DVD/VCR combo works and their response is, "I don't know" that is a lights and sirens moment. At that time it may be a good time to ask to test it. When going to garage sales it may behoove a person to bring an old VHS movie and DVD movie along for testing purposes.

Most are pre-recorded and as far as I can tell they have the plastic reels, but when you get them cheap there is still some good money in them. If I am at a garage sale, I have to assume that the electronic device does not work. Therefore, no matter how clean it is and the husband is a dentist and the wife is a nurse and they both say it works, I have to assume it does not work. I have been burned too many times. I bid on and buy the item as low as I can get it. Also, I could list the 100 variables that cause these items not to work but that would be a waste of our time.

      I've had pretty good luck with most. Not to say I haven't had my issues. I also will only buy very low and that is it. LOW LOW!

    not having watermarks on a sealed vhs doesnt lower the value from $4k to $200k. research vhs more. there's a lot more to it. non-watermarked vhs are still worth thousands if it original sealed and the right variant/first print

    • @goldenstatepicker
      @goldenstatepicker  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, but the proper WATERMARK is also key. I sold several and one for $4,500 with watermarks etc. Watermarks do play a big factor. Reason is not as easy to shrink wrap a tape. Yes, there are some without watermarks that do sell for a lot of money.

      @@goldenstatepicker watermarks help, but only slightly. if it's graded and encased and vetted to be original sealed release in great condition (seal, box, corners, etc) not having watermarks will only reduce value slightly. trust me, we've sold thousands of tapes of ebay and at auctions

    My friends you can go and buy it for yourself and take your chances. Not let someone like this buy it and mark it up to get ri 12:13 ch. I see this all the time at Savers. You can spot them a mile away going through the 2.99 DVD'S so they can mark them up to $45.00. Talk about scalping the public.

      So sad that your thinking is flawed. NOPE it's called capitalism and a free market. You don't have to participate. You can sit on the sideline like you probably have done for most of your life. I don't de well with negative Lenny's like you. It's called jealousy. You can't do it so you have to start yapping your gums about SCALPING. Well, someone was very happy to pay $4500 for my SEALED RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK VHS TAPE. That's all that matters. Bye FELICIA!
