I have 6 Disney VHS videos still sealed in original plastic, I have Fantasia, Beauty and the Beast, Snow White, Pinocchio, Cinderella, and Aladdin. They all have a black diamond with the words "The classics" written in it. Are they worth mutch?
Oh the reason I have them is my mom bought VHS DIsney videos for the Grand kids to watch, but never got around to opening most of them. I have a lot of other Disney VHS too, but the plastic is off and they were probably played once or twice at most.
I watch your videos every weekend. I am 73 years old and have a basement FULL of my 3 sons' collections; including old VHS. This video was most informative and most appreciated. ♥ from San Francisco
Great, and it doesn't surprise me at all that it sold for that amount. I'm a reseller myself and I've told people that physical media isn't going anywhere at all. I sell Blu-ray, DVDs, CDs, Videogames, Cassette Tapes, and even 8 Track Tapes for money. The thing is you can of course get most of them for almost free and still sell most of them for $5 to $20 dollars or even more. I've had a few hundred dollar VHS tapes sell for that amount.
I've got a cassette tape of Metallica Kill Em All for sale on megaforce/Electra opened for $500 and original Star Wars VHS Trilogy Box Set never opened for $5000.
That Cars VHS was my biggest find ever and it was the last yard sale my Dad went with me. He encouraged me to take it all the way. Sadly he passed before it sold.
That's a great story. You found one the rarest VHS tapes out there with your Dad. Sorry to hear he passed. I'm glad you have a good memory like this with him.

You put on an awesome video on the VHS tapes and their grades. I just recently received a 9.4 CGC Grade on the first edition TOP-GUN VHS movie. Also received a 9.2 grade on the Black Diamond FANTASIA VHS movie sealed. These movies I kept for years and decided to send them in where I grade my comic books..... 🚩
As a kid I had tons of vhs tapes (sadly most are gone as over the years I’ve upgraded to Dvd and now Blu-ray). I have a massive collection of Blu-ray’s, but I will always love vhs! There was no experience half as cool as going to the video store and renting 3-4 vhs at a time! Fun video, thanks!
That’s exactly why this market exist now. Renting VHS was an event for the entire family. It was something we all looked forward to all week long. Then we all moved onto the next best thing. I love the feeling and memories we all get from vhs.
Kevin we rented the VHS player too! They were crazy expensive back then. We would get it from this Ma and Pa video movie rental store and we kids loved picking out the movies to watch. There was no Blockbuster then! When my Mom finally bought a VHS player it was $800! 😮 Crazy! I miss the Blockbuster days of perusing all the movies, buying overpriced candy and popcorn, and seeing all the people in there on Friday night! Lol It was so fun! I would never return my movies on time though and had to pay the late fees! 😅
As a kid, I looked forward to my Friday night trip to the video rental store. Only to get there and see all 50 copies of the new release rented. When watching a movie at home was a big deal. The good old days! I miss them.
My dad has probably 40-50 betamax movies from the early 80's. From Terminator,Monty Python,ET and more. All viewed but in excellent condition. Still has his sony betamax player.
Impressive video! I also caught the VHS bug in 2021 and have since dedicated numerous hours to my research. One significant realization I made is the absence of a definitive guide on the subject. Instead, I discovered that the most reliable information could be gleaned from studying the tumultuous home entertainment industry of the 1980s and 1990s. It was a truly chaotic era, marked by mergers, acquisitions, separations, lawsuits, and shady dealings. It seemed like nearly every studio and distribution company was intertwined at some point or another. Consequently, with each change came new iterations of company names and logos, which necessitated alterations on the actual tapes themselves. This process typically occurred rapidly. By familiarizing oneself with this rich history, identifying the initial releases-often the most sought-after ones-becomes a relatively easier task.
You make a great point! Knowing the history allows you have to a better understanding of seals, stickers, watermarks, logos, etc. It was truly the Wild West!

I sold a sealed Ghostbusters VHS pre pandemic for $35. I was still fairly new to Ebay, and was going off recent sold comps. This was before I knew anything about the VHS collecting, there's no telling what version I actually sold, and how much it was really worth.
We have all been there. Do you know how many rare sealed video games Kevin and I have sold over the years??? We could of paid off our houses if we still had them. You just never know but you always can’t hold onto everything. We are in the business of flipping items to make money. Your time will come again, just keep grinding!
I would recommend starting out with a small sample size. Around 3-5 range because it’s more cost efficient with shipping. You should also self grade your tapes before you send them in. Write it down. When you get them back, you will have a good understanding on how close you were or if you need to do more research.
How do graded home movies do? I actually have one mint condition from 1986. I was the first person in Huntsville AL to hit for the cycle as a 4yr old in tee ball. My coach was Ozzie Canseco
Hi, I was clearing out my recently deceased uncles estate and came across hundreds of vhs movies. They seem to be in excellent condition, maybe only viewed once, but they are not sealed. As I was packing them up I noticed a few of the ones on the top 10 list in this video, like top gun and the thing and maybe rocky. Is there any value to these movies if they are not sealed? My uncle was definitely a horror fan because I noticed a lot from that genre. I also remember packing up around a dozen sealed movies but I didn't pay much attention to what they were. Wondering what to do with all these vhs movies. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks
This is a really cool video! I had a Beata/VHS combo player in the early 80's , wish I had it now!! I guess we're all going to be looking for VHS now!! Thanks!!
I got boxes and boxes of sealed vhs tapes and I no I got the Star Wars and jaws along with a few more. My parents used to own a blockbuster type of store we rented vhs tapes and vhs players
That's because 99.9% are not worth a quarter. I can't even give mine away Anyone want a bunch of 80's horror and a bunch of sealed ones from the late 70's or early 80's I have no space for them anymore.
I have every VHS movie I ever got my kids since 1988. Of course, none of them are sealed, but they’re all in good condition. And I have a 34-year-old boy a 24-year-old boy and a 19-year-old girl! That’s a lot of movies lol 😅
I loved your video on VHS! I have hundreds of Beta, Laserdics and CED's! I have Star Wars in all three formats! What should I look for in these formats?
Some of the 1970’s movies weren’t released on vhs until later in the 80’s due to how expensive they were originally to make. Once they were able to lower the price for the general public, they started to release a lot of older movies on vhs.
I'd be interested in knowing what opened and used VHS is actually worth money even if $50+. VHS is maybe the hardest bc of so many shenangians. I want to know what to look for at thrift, garage sales, etc. I know horror can do well, kids shows, and some indie, obscure stuff.
Same here I love getting vhs movies I enjoy and vhs I never seen the movie for and end up liking the movie. I started collecting them around 2018 after seeing a bucket full of vhs tapes I had when I was little. Started with 50 something now I have 300 something tapes at the age of 25
@@pickingandpunching although some companies do take advantage, and still make interesting, packaging. overall package design, is a lost art. I also collect vintage toys and now it just seems like they slap a figure in a blister pack and call it good. Some of the toys I had from the 80s have the most incredible fantasy paintings as their front cover.
You do make a good point, it could potential have issues. At the end of the day it’s more about the original factory presentation. Same reason people collect vintage toy boxes, vintage packs of sports cards, sealed vinyl, etc.
Do the tapes say VHS and BETA on them? This information is great. New reseller here so I’m taking all the brands and everything in. Thank you for the info 💵
I have an original Willow movie in the hardback plastic case. The movie still plays well. I have a ton of vhs movies from the 1980s and 1990s sitting in storage boxes. I'm going to go through them and research each of their value. I could be sitting on a gold mine and not even know it.
We rented vhs rather than buy them back in 80’s. Now I buy them to flip online. 😊 How come companies are selling new record players, cassette players but their not making vcr players. Also, in the south where its humid, vhs tapes can develop white mold on inside the tapes. I love the Goonies movie. Me and my twin sister love Back to the Future.
I think it's because VCRs are a bit more complicated and expensive to make now because of all the moving parts. Probably cost a lot to produce with questionable financial return. It would probably take somebody who does this as a passion project unless it gets popular enough for a company to expect profit.
If you're saying that ironically, then yes. Anybody can talk about some bullshit auction house when pretty soon they're all going to be out of business just like CGC and everybody's going to be buying off places like eBay for what they're actually worth
man you would have a field day in my basement, when i bought my house theres gotta be over 1k disney movies all in prestine condition, horror movies and comedy...theres a few boxes of Bata tapes and a player that plays both VHs & Bata tapes
Back in the late 90s my friends dad owned a video store and I remember seeing those beta tapes in boxes at thier home they had a lot of them. I never would have guessed they would be worth anything they may have threw those away after the store went out of buisiness.
So many mom and pop stores went out of business back then. I wish I could find one of them that has everything stashed in their basement still. That's the dream!
@@pickingandpunching I've done it 3 times now. All the film was covered in white mold. Still a great score but it'll take me years to clean the mold off of all of them.
I worked for Radio Shack mid 80’s and bought a Beta player. I picked wrong!! However I loved Beta tapes better. But eventually the area of Beta at the video store shrunk.
I have a back to the future with the McDonald's promo sticker on it still sealed and never opened in mint condition. I also have a few other unopened vhs tapes but have about 40 others that are opened but still in mint condition! The film tape in the open ones are in mint condition
Loved the video. Thats one thing I've got an abundance of on my ebay store is vhs and some sealed ones as well. Every time I'm out picking for things I look for vhs as top priority. Unfortunately theres none of the high valued ones but their still cool to have.
I have a lot of VHS movies... they don't have the plastic covering, as long as they are in really good shape, how do you find the actual value of each video? Do they sell well on eBay, or do you auction them on eBay?
Majority of the big money will come because of the rarity of the item. It's hard to come by a sealed VHS in amazing condition from 40 years ago. Majority of used vhs are not worth much. Horror category would be the exception to that.
Happy Friday Kevin & CWP Family 🥳💙🥳💙 Great Video! Very Informative & Love Seeing Both Of Your Excitement And Enthusiasm . Rod Is A Class Act For Sure 🥰🙌🏽 I Feel Blessed To Have Met Both Of You & Can Attest That You're Both Are Just As Genuine & Cool In Person 💙💙

Trading cards are a good analogy for literally EVERY category of re-selling... Every area of a thrift store I'm unfamiliar with I know I'm walking past gold because I don't have the knowledge... But just like trading cards billions exist and most aren't worth 25 cents lol, but there's still tons of valuable cards out there
You make a great point! That’s why we all focus on certain categories and slowly start to expand into others that interest us. I only do that for the things that I LOVE. If I didn’t love it, it would just be work.
I have gone back and listened and cant seem to find it, but did you ever mention what movie the guy found that you offered $2500 for and he sold for $3700? Y'all mentioned to look out for them even used, but I don't think you mentioned the title. I may have just missed it some how. I would like to know though. TIA
So my guess is if its a carboard cover that slides out the cassette tape...is more likely especially still wrapped in Cellophane as a high priced tictet item??
This is just to help bring attention to the actual market. Majority of people didn’t even know this is a thing. We wanted to start with this. I would love to do more VHS content in the future on what to look out for.
I have a lot of these DISNEY Black Diamond VHS Tapes brand new sealed still I even put a plastic cover over it for more protection I wonder how much I can get for them.
I actually have a legit question- so what if you find a rare vhs but it's open and not sealed. Is it ever worth grading and how much does it affect the value?
Until recently, they were only grading sealed copies. I do believe that grading raw copies (open vhs) will become more popular down the line. Majority of the time 98% of the open vhs you find are going to be a dollar or two. There are a lot of rare open vhs out there that do have value, especially horror vhs. The reason for that is some of them had a low print run or the company went out of business and the movie was never released on DVD.
You guys are going over graded copies (sealed) which 99.9% of the time you wont find at yardsales... little confused by the direction of this video. Did i miss something?
We come across sealed vhs every month at sales. 99% they aren’t worth much. We just wanted to help educate the community about them. It only takes that one sale to change your life! You just never know. That’s why knowledge is power.
I'm new to collecting VHS. I found some Disney movies sealed. Where and how do I get them graded? Or maybe you can tell me if I have anything. Thank you and Rod so much
I have a Jaws VHS Tape that is rated 8.5 from Beckett what do you think it is worth and where is the best place to sell it ?? Thanks for any advice you give me.
There are bunch of different versions so it would be hard to tell the price without seeing it. I would recommend either Ebay, Golden Auctions, or Heritage Auctions.

Love it! Learned a Ton. Would it be worth getting a non-sealed copy? Or would it depends on the movie title
Depends on the movie and the condition/release.
@@pickingandpunching thank you
Thank you for this, man I had no clue that a couple of my old VHS promo tapes were worth anything.
you are welcome
How much does it typically cost to get a VHS graded? I have some ones he mentioned that are in excellent shape…some even sealed.
60 bucks
I would recommend starting out with a small sample size. Around 3-5 range because it’s more cost efficient with shipping. You should also self grade your tapes before you send them in. Write it down. When you get them back, you will have a good understanding on how close you were or if you need to do more research.
How do graded home movies do? I actually have one mint condition from 1986. I was the first person in Huntsville AL to hit for the cycle as a 4yr old in tee ball. My coach was Ozzie Canseco
That’s priceless.
❤❤Great video, you both are easy on the eyes😊, oh ya and knowledgeable too!! Thanks from 🇨🇦.
Thank you!
Great content! As an 80’s born kid, gotta love the Goonies! Great job Rod! Very informative.
Thank you! The Goonies was the best. Heyyyyyy you guysssssss!
Thank you both for giving us all your knowledge! This is so awesome
I’m glad that you enjoyed it!
Awesome video! I got into sealed VHS collecting a few months ago! I enjoy it! Thanks for the info!
It’s so much fun! Welcome to the club.
I’m a seller on eBay and your videos help out so much thank you.🤙🏻
Hi, I was clearing out my recently deceased uncles estate and came across hundreds of vhs movies.
Thanks
What makes the valuable is that there aren't a lot of them still sealed. Those open tapes you have maybe worth a couple of dollars. Sorry.
This is a really cool video! I had a Beata/VHS combo player in the early 80's , wish I had it now!! I guess we're all going to be looking for VHS now!! Thanks!!
It’s a fun hobby!
Don't be jealous, but I found a sealed VHS copy of the HIGHLY SOUGHT AFTER Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat with Donny Osmond 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Lol
You should send it to Kevin so he can display it in his shed! 😂
@@pickingandpunching 😆 I mean... I do have a growing pile of stuff to give him the next time I see him hahaha
@@88picks54 excellent! Lol
I enjoyed this video very much. Now I understand the VHS collectors and market. Thank you.
Awesome! I am glad we could help.
I recently found a sealed copy of E.T. 1996 VHS
I got boxes and boxes of sealed vhs tapes and I no I got the Star Wars and jaws along with a few more. My parents used to own a blockbuster type of store we rented vhs tapes and vhs players
I have Star Wars on Beta but sadly the case was was damaged in my move across country.
Thats awesome. Do you have any old store signs, promos items, or tapes laying around?
Had no idea VHS could be so valuable. Good info. Thanks!
You are welcome! Thanks for watching.
That's because 99.9% are not worth a quarter. I can't even give mine away
Anyone want a bunch of 80's horror and a bunch of sealed ones from the late 70's or early 80's I have no space for them anymore.
WT?! That Hulk Hogan is impressive. Free gift?! 😮
You have to take care of the people who take care of you. It was the least I can do for inviting me out to stay with him.
I have every VHS movie I ever got my kids since 1988. Of course, none of them are sealed, but they’re all in good condition. And I have a 34-year-old boy a 24-year-old boy and a 19-year-old girl! That’s a lot of movies lol 😅
That’s a ton of movies!
I loved your video on VHS! I have hundreds of Beta, Laserdics and CED's! I have Star Wars in all three formats! What should I look for in these formats?
It's pretty much the same across all formats. Horror always sells, first print and original blockbuster movies sealed is what people look for.
Hello Kevin! I think that the movie jaws in 1975 and jaws 2 in 1987!
Some of the 1970’s movies weren’t released on vhs until later in the 80’s due to how expensive they were originally to make. Once they were able to lower the price for the general public, they started to release a lot of older movies on vhs.
glad you changed the format for this video! love it
Thank you!
Started with 50 something now I have 300 something tapes at the age of 25
Thats awesome! Keep on going!
Damn, Rod. I've never seen someone so supremely uncomfortable. If you tug or readjust that shirt anymore, it'll fall right off.
This is Great stuff Kevin!! Hope we haven’t sold anything that we’ve bought. Easy come easy go. We will start paying better attention. Thanks
Thank you! We are always here to help if you have any questions.
My favorite most popular movie in 1980’s! “Steel magnolia”, “the mermaids”, “Chariots on fire “, “purple rain”, “the goonies”!
Purple rain can’t give it away lol and I have goonies lol
@@misseyespy1I love the Goonies! One of my childhood favorites.
Some great choices there! I love 80’s movies!
I'm going with stand by me, the outsiders, the lost boys, next of kin and the karate kid
And the Ghostbusters
I have a copy of the West Side Story. I have never been open. Do you think it made cost anything? Thanks
Ive been collecting VHS for a decade now so, everyone thinks Im insane haha. Anything with cool package art is appealing really.
The cover art is what sold me on vhs as.a kid. I used to pick my rentals solely on the cover art, lol.
Are Blockbuster VHS head cleaners worth anything? I have a few of them one is sealed.
Thank u guys! Great Video! Excellant information! Thank u! ❤️
Thank you!
Its a passion because you can buy crazy low and sell crazy high for about 100 or so VHS's
but the main thing to be graded would be the tape itself no ? it could be totally destroyed in there if it stood next to a hifi system or whatever
I would ❤ to find a sealed copy of one of my favorite childhood movies...Drop Dead Fred! -Amy
Now that you said that, I want one too 😂. You have great taste!
I have an original Willow movie in the hardback plastic case. The movie still plays well. I have a ton of vhs movies from the 1980s and 1990s sitting in storage boxes. I'm going to go through them and research each of their value. I could be sitting on a gold mine and not even know it.
Keep in mind that most of the ones that bring big money are the ones that are frist releases and are brand new still.
@@pickingandpunching yeah, I figured.
Me and my twin sister love Back to the Future.
you make a good point, someone needs to make new VCRs.
I think it's because VCRs are a bit more complicated and expensive to make now because of all the moving parts. Probably cost a lot to produce with questionable financial return. It would probably take somebody who does this as a passion project unless it gets popular enough for a company to expect profit.
I remember my parents renting a VCR every couple weeks and I always rented some of the first UFC vhs
They were awesome. I would ride my bike to the video store and rent those as well.
You are a teacher indeed!😊
And a good one!
Look for a dual VHS and DVD player. I still have one because the DVD side still works.
They bring great money, especially the ones that have HDMI capability.
This guy is 100% a VHS expert.
We don’t know it all but we wanted to share a little knowledge to help out the community.
@@pickingandpunching that would be like winning the lottery
@@crazyadventuresandreviews yes it would. I had a friend find one two years ago and got a ton of movie posters and some old horror vhs.
@@pickingandpunching I've done it 3 times now. All the film was covered in white mold. Still a great score but it'll take me years to clean the mold off of all of them.
Thanks for showing us all the great VHS. Take Care Kevin.Peace Out
You are welcome! I’m glad you enjoyed the video.
I worked for Radio Shack mid 80’s and bought a Beta player. I picked wrong!! However I loved Beta tapes better. But eventually the area of Beta at the video store shrunk.
Some people loved beta. Unfortunately, the better product doesn’t always win the war.
Fact is, all the tv co's used beta.
We loved Beta! We held on as long as we could!😂
I have a back to the future with the McDonald's promo sticker on it still sealed and never opened in mint condition. I also have a few other unopened vhs tapes but have about 40 others that are opened but still in mint condition! The film tape in the open ones are in mint condition
Love Back to the Future.
Loved the video. Thats one thing I've got an abundance of on my ebay store is vhs and some sealed ones as well. Every time I'm out picking for things I look for vhs as top priority. Unfortunately theres none of the high valued ones but their still cool to have.
It’s hard to find high value ones, but one you do, it’s the greatest feeling ever!
@pickingandpunching oh I know. I feel that way every time I dig into my cards and find a $100+ one lol.
@@okamisgamingden6280 it’s one of the greatest feelings ever!
I have a lot of VHS movies... they don't have the plastic covering, as long as they are in really good shape, how do you find the actual value of each video? Do they sell well on eBay, or do you auction them on eBay?
I would look up sold comps on ebay. Keep in mind that 95% of vhs dont really have much value.
Do these VHS have to be factory sealed? I have VHS movies that I opened and watched. So are they not worth anything?
My question exactly. I have a ton of VHS in excellent condition, but none sealed. I watched them!
Most used vhs tapes aren't worth much. Pretty hard to find used vhs worth more than $50
Majority of the big money will come because of the rarity of the item. It's hard to come by a sealed VHS in amazing condition from 40 years ago. Majority of used vhs are not worth much. Horror category would be the exception to that.
Please explain how to value one of the "hotlist" tapes that don't have all the original packaging.
It will vary based on the VHS most of the time they are only worth a few dollars.

Rod should also be doing informative videos to go along with his picking videos.😊
Thank you! Be careful what you wish for. You never know what may be coming 😉
I have gone back and listened and cant seem to find it, but did you ever mention what movie the guy found that you offered $2500 for and he sold for $3700? Y'all mentioned to look out for them even used, but I don't think you mentioned the title. I may have just missed it some how. I would like to know though. TIA
You are referring to the movie Cars. It was the very last Disney VHS club release. It had a very limited print run.
It sounds similar to first edition/first print book values vs the later editions.
100%, it’s the a very similar process. The only difference is, VHS don’t put “first edition” on them like books do.
So my guess is if its a carboard cover that slides out the cassette tape...is more likely especially still wrapped in Cellophane as a high priced tictet item??
I used to own a VHS store I have everything sealed in storage ?
That would be really cool to do a video going thourgh it all.
Im a huge collector of VHS horror tapes got tons of VHS , a storage full of nothing but VHS !!
I'm much more interested in VHS worth $20 or $30, the odds of finding one of these $30,000 tapes out in the wild is pretty much zero
I have a Mad Max sealed VHS with watermarks, perfect wrap, seals, etc. Couldnt even get $50 for it.
50 bucks for a vhs isn't bad.
There are multiple releases of that movie. The early prints can bring really good money.
@commonwealthflipper What I meant was I can't sell it. Not sure what it takes to move these things.
I can't even get $50 for a sealed 3 pack of mad max vhs 🤷
You said that you “Used’ to have the Ghostbusters VHS on your shelf, did you trade it , sell it? What did you get for it?
I think I sold it. It was a used copy so not very mucy
@@pickingandpunching but anyone can seal stuff no ?
Yes, but you can't counterfeit the original factory seal very easily.
@@pickingandpunching thanks Rod- I don’t care what Mike/Death Pile Picker says about you, you are a good dude!

Yes but you could get them graded if you choose.

Sometimes the better product loses the marketing war.
