    I can’t believe The Killing Fields was $80 back in the 1980’s. No wonder recording movies with two VCR‘s was so popular.

    I bet you see a lot of opened, yet rare, VHS tapes that you are not interested in. You might even have some rare Horror VHS tapes you don't want to keep because they are not sealed? If so, please get up with me, I'd love to have a chance to get the opened rare horror VHS tapes you may have access to, but are not interested in for your collection. Your collection is so massive. Gracious. Awesome & beautiful. Just thought I should inquire. Good luck in the future. Peace. J.

    I got a ‘coockos nest’ today with a beautiful WB watermark right on Jack Nicholson face. Alonso Like a neck tattoo lol. I sell vhs on eBay so I’m always on the look out for the more unique watermark placement and variant covers. Never any home runs...yet.
    I buy up all the sealed ones I can, you never know. Something subtle I may over look at the time, an unexpected death, or scandal can up the value of almost any collectable.

    Really awesome!
    I'm wondering...does a sealed VHS need to have watermarks to be considered a real seal and not a possible reseal? I heard that some places like VGA only grade seals with watermarks. Not sure if that is true or not.
    Anyways, really great channel, thanks 😊

      most vhs will require water marks , however there are a few that dont have water marks example leprechaun , in those instances they verify the plastic ( seal ) for the method of how it was sealed , e:g vertical , over lap seam etc

    I'm trying to find a copy of Karate Kid and although the first print is too expensive for me, I want to find the next print run. But I wish there was some site that had a list of every print run from every movie released, just so I can research what print to afford. Apart from the first print all I see is this 1994 released vhs and i wish i could just easily find out if there's a good in between release for print runs.

    • @themaddogcollection
      @themaddogcollection  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      VHScollector.com is a site that does show print runs on many tapes... but remember that the box print date is only part of the equation. The red border RCA Columbia box is the first print only when it has back white watermarks - the technical second print is the same red border RCA box, but with side watermarks, and this side watermark tape should be a lot cheaper... then the third print tape is the same red border box, and looks very similar, but it doesn't have the square RCA logo in the center of the front cover, instead it just says 'Columbia pictures presents'... that is the third print (maybe from around 1990-1992). The trick is these three prints all look the same from a far, as the box artwork and design is the same on all, you need to look closely to tell the difference

      @@adamrodway27 Just from seeing it through my travels. The box print runs should be fairly accurate on the vhscollector.com , however they don't talk about watermarks there. There isn't really a good source for this info that I'm aware of yet.

    Do any of the grading companies grade used copies, or have plans to grade used copies? I think that will help the market grow with new collectors willing to jump in quicker for a lower barrier to entry. Some of the first print VHS aren’t easily obtained sealed and in those cases a nice used copy may be the best option available.

    you should do more videos similar to the cbs fox video about collecting sealed disney tapes, collecting sealed warner tapes, collecting sealed new line tapes, collecting sealed mgm tapes, collecting sealed universal tapes, collecting sealed sony tapes, and even sealed paramount tapes and more
    and even a continuation about the cbs fox/fox video tape discussion but go through print runs of Other cbs fox and fox tapes
    all of these studios had different types of vhs's , there was even beta tapes Prior to vhs
    one interesting example Not in the cbs fox video discussion, was that cbs fox did runs of Vhs's of the Garfield specials
    which at the time during the late 80s and 90s, it had been popular airing on network tv, same as another popular cartoon property, the peanuts, in which the peanuts tapes at the time emerged on different labels also, some peanuts specials had been on independant vhs's labels such as media, kartes home entertainment and hi tops video, two of the peanuts films even had appeared on cbs fox video Under the Playhouse video division (a boy named charlie brown and snoopy come home) while the other two peanuts films (race for your life and bon voyage) had appeared on the paramount home video line, that is Until paramount had managed to license the peanuts specials for their vhs's and early dvd's for awhile, and also managed to get the early peanuts films (a boy named charlie brown and snoopy come home) to be on paramount vhs's and dvds along side the later installments
    later the peanuts movies would have Blurays for paramount, While the peanuts specials would be distributed by warner
    because by doing that, it diversified how they got distributed

    I have a question for you, if you don’t mind. You seem to know a lot about the sealed VHS market. I don’t. I’ve been collecting VHS for about 4 years now. Can somebody fake a watermark on the seal? I ask because I just found a sealed Jaws screener for the 1995 collectors edition. On the front of the VHS is reads “Complements of your video sales rep please return after viewing” I only ask because in my mind I don’t know why a video store would need a screener for the 1995 special Ed. release of Jaws. By 95 it had already been released twice in 3 vhs formats. The vhs release is 15 yrs old at this point.

    • @mybarbarastanwyck
      @mybarbarastanwyck 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It makes sense that a video store would receive these promo tapes as the promos were made specifically for the retailers and rental markets to try to entice them to carry and promote the release. Even though Jaws is an old film in 1995, it was re-released to promote it to a new generation of buyers. As for the watermarks, technically someone could forge them with stamps etc, though that would be a lot of work and would require a real counterfeit operation. It seems unlikely this would have been done skillfully on a 95 Jaws screener

I remember in the beginnings of internet someone living in Denmark wanted to buy my copy of Cannibal Holocaust for $100 and that was back then. I have know that even in Venezuela people are not collecting their VHS!😭 So what's around in the USA that's it! I love videocassettes.👉😀👈
