Just wanted to say thanks for posting this entire build series! These videos were very informative and helped with "restoring" a '96 XP800 that I recently picked up. It had been severely neglected and left to sit in the extreme Texas heat for years. The Texas sun is brutal and I couldn't get the finish to a full color restoration and gloss as you did, so I ended up doing my own custom full wrap, but after an engine rebuild, the XP is back up and running, keeping another 2-stroke on the water and that lovely mixed fuel smell wafting through the air. Keep these videos coming!
Really liked the style of your videos and series on this. I would love to see move retro PWC restorations in the future! Also I’ve been looking for a Yamaha exciter 270 restoration video/series can’t seem to find one. Would love to see something like that as well. Keep up the good content!
That super clean works great for removing oil deposits. Got my 97 gtx 787 broke down. And yes the river is messed up and going to get worse more rain coming in the next few days.
Yesterday I drove accross florida to get this Mint 96 XP. Literally showroom condition has net even been registered or ridden since 97. And I’m wondering how I should first get it started. Anything I should do. We are going to replace grey fuel lines, clean tanks, is there anything specific we should do beside that?
I would do a carb rebuild no question. I would also ground out the plug wires, remove the spark plugs and spray a liberal amount of storage oil down the cylinders and turn it over by hand a couple times. Everything else sounds perfect.
Great videos. Tons of help. Just had to rebuild my 96 XP due to blew a hole in piston some how, plus I’ve had a long time issue with leaking inner crank seals causing hydro lock after sitting for a while. Decided to do complete rebuild. Should have it all wrapped up by tomorrow. Your videos helped greatly. Any special steps I need to do for first fire up? Concerned that oil lines are not primed.
Add 2oz of 2 stroke oil per gallon of gas for break in if you are using the factory oil pump. After that tank you can go straight gas. Upon first start let it idle and hold the oil pump wide open manually until oil flows into the rotary cover.
@Today We Wrench So, got her running today. Pop off for carbs was about 29 in one and 32 in the other. Set initial low end meddle to one turn. Runs and idles fine, hesitation with quick throttle, but not bad if ease into it. What adjustment would you suggest?
@@kendavis8557 high speed 0, low speed 1.5 on the bench. You don't adjust the carbs once installed. Did you rebuild with genuine Mikuni? If not, you need to use that. You shouldn't be revving the engine until breakin, but the symptoms you're saying suggest a lean condition.
Not really. The only pieces of the ski that are not new at that point would be the electrical. I don't like using aftermarket so thats why I keep them original. I have a couple OEM NOS rectifiers on hand incase ones goes bad though. Never really had a MPEM go bad unless it sees water.
@@TodayWeWrench I’m gonna start keeping a stock of rectifiers. Every ski I buy seems to have a bad one 😂 gotta love ski restorations… how many have you restored this year alone?
Bro! I need your help! I’m the second owner of a 95 xp 800 I’ve had the ski since 96-97 it’s been outside and has sun fade. Where did you find replacement decals? Is the plastic piece for the handle bars still available at dealerships? Mines cracked. It was hydro locked at one point and it’s bored over with weisco pistons. What do you recommend to get this in running shape again?
After you guys restore all these things do you ever run into any issues after? I have a 97 GSX that I rebuilt the entire engine, replaced the fuel lines, and did other miscellaneous things to, and before this it always seems to break down lol I just want a reliable ski!!
Wow! I’m jealous. I had a 96 XP. Best sea Doo that I’ve ever owned. Light, and could jump in the ocean like crazy. Curious… how much money would it take to completely rebuild and refurbish like you did? Just in parts and supplies. Not including labor. And where did you get all of the parts ie. Fuel lines, hoses, etc. does dealer still have these things, or is there an aftermarket company?
Premix the gas even when using oil injection. Its 2oz per gallon plus the injection system. Take it easy for the first 2 hours and don't hit more than 3/4 throttle.
You can tell how abused a ski was by the amount of stickers on it. No stickers, adult owned and maintained. Monster Energy, Punisher, SBT, etc, the ski was beat hard and never maintained
@@TodayWeWrench sorry one more question I seen on the test ride vid the guy with the carbon sticker kit had blue on his but it doesn’t give the option to change any colours how did he do that? If it’s too much trouble don’t worry about it but it would be really helpful

If you would work this fast all the time imagine how many skis you could get out !!!! A+ on those cabinets
My most favorite jetski of all time. Just never owned one lol.
They’re absolute junk, nothing but trouble

What steps did you do to make the plastics look brand new
In the other videos, check them out
Looks great! What did you use to get the spots off handlebar cover?
Soft scrub with bleach and a fine scotch brite pad
Do you ever have problems with the skis after you fully restore them? Such as a rectifier going bad or something electrical?

About 3k if you replace every part like we do with oem
Can you simply pull the engine and leave the impeller shaft in place?
You cannot

What purple paint do you use for the exhaust?
We powder coat everything
