WD-40 is mostly kerosene and petroleum oil. If you look at a chain maintenance guide, they'll say to either: 1) use their expensive chain cleaner or 2) use kerosene. So it makes perfect sense to use wd40 to clean a chain. Also FortNine's video about chain maintenance is 👌

Hey fella I like all of your videos, and I appreciate the practicality of them and also how you're budget minded as well. Thanks and keep up the good work. I love my Honda Halfrican Twin!

john Woolley sure does. I want to get a center stand. Probably will in the future once I figure out what skid plate to get.

3:35 to 3:44. Get a piece of 2x4 wood and put the bike's side stand on top of it to level it out, then get a pair of bottlejacks and jack up the bike each side basically at the same time within a half an inch of the end of each side of the swingarm. That's what I used to do before I installed the "main stand" aka center stand honda oem part "
then the rear wheel when put in neutral can spin freely by hand while spraying the chain.

Good tip, but now I have the center stand;)

Personnally i use a chamois skin to wipe out the water, as you can easily rinse it and tear it, it doesn't leave any mark on the surfaces. and for the chain kerosene is cheap and efficient. keep the bucket of kerosene under the chain when you brush it . the dirt will stay at the bottom. After the fisrt stage cleaning the chain with kerosene you can also wash it with ajax, and at the end put the proper oil for lubrification. FortNine studies on the best products is excellent.

Thanks for the comment. I use a chamois on nicer cars. They work great.

Vance Smith I was thinking the same. I can see them wearing down however in the back. I’m so ready for new tires, I just need to use these up first, especially right now while work is slow.

Good delivery, thorough and informative content - thank you. Do you have to worry about water mixing with electrics on the bike?

Not at all. This bike sits in the rain sometimes.

Avoid dish soap many of them have salt in, look for a multi purpose liquid soap😊. So you've been out on the bike, it looks a little messed up around the wheels etc., try baby wipes 🤔 great for removing chain lube & brake dust. Prior to washing the bike, if you have any tar spots kerosene does the trick 👍

Lube the chain after u clean the bike, not before.

Dude you lost me with the WD40 on your chain. Will perish your O Rings. In Australia like to use Motul White Lube with minimal chain " cleaning ".CRC or WD40 will dilute the grease in the chain O rings. Up to you I guess, but I only use Kerosene & brush when chain displays excess signs of grit. What works for me maybe doesn't work for everybody, jus sayin.Lube my chain, not excessively, every 700 km or every long ride.
Enjoy your cb500x, I fricken love mine.Keep the content coming.

    • @OregonMotorcycle
      @OregonMotorcycle  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Mal Caithness check out Fortnines video on chain lube. WD-40 is perfectly fine to use on a chain as a cleaner and lube. The o rings seal the internal grease inside. Your not cleaning the inside of the chain your only cleaning and lubing the outside.

Great job, how long did it take you in all and did you have to adjust the chain?

Gareth Owen probably about an hour. I did not adjust my chain. Probably do it on the next wash or whenever I get bored lol ;)

Why should I listen to someone who says I don't care if I strip the wax off my paint, I don't care? If you'd said I'll only use it on the engine and wheels, yeah but not caring about the paint and you lost me!
