Unironically, I think the 2nd psa has been more effective in convincing kids to not do drugs. They see authority saying stuff like "they're fun, but just say no! Haha!" And they want to go do drugs. But when they see a guy who's like "I used to do heroin because it made me feel like I was flying... I finally had to be taken into rehab because I was lying in the gutter outside a burger King coughing up vomit" Kids will stay far away from drugs when they hear stuff like that!
Nothing against Burger King by the way; I just needed an unusual example of a place where it would be uncomfortable to be lying down outside. I actually like Burger King burgers.
Yeah I remember reading stories from people on Reddit talking about their worst and the fight to stay sober and it had a pretty big impact on me. Though admittedly the one that comes to mind is in that style but was about a guy who spent a fortune on a gacha game because that can be addicting too.
