    Unless you intend to actually kill animals, with the knife, surely the Velcro noise won’t be a problem 😂
    The animal will be dead before you need to clean it.

    This knife was made for hunters. In that purpose it is perfect, the saw is great for trimming shooting lanes or any other small wood cutting. The gut hook works like a zipper and keeps you from cutting into the stomach and intestines. The main blade could be a bit better but still will do anything you need it to do for hunting chores. Overall I think its the perfect hunting knife, and after over 40 years of hunting under my belt I think I have a pretty good handle on what works and what doesn't I do agree for an edc it's not ideal. I use the feildmaster for that purpose..

      Does the main straight edge blade (on the Hunter XT) have a chisel grind?

      If you had a choice would you like a non serrated gutting blade?
      I would...I believe the Swiss Army RangerGrip Hunter 58 has a non serrated gutting blade if anyone prefers that...

      @@michaelkulman7095 nah the serrated gutting blade helps with thicker boar hide imo. zips right trough it. to be frank i didnt use a non serrated gutting blade yet but i love my serrated one.
      EDIT: Also the serrated blade is really useful for cutting hide around the ankles when skinning an animal.

    One-hand closing is just not a priority for many knife guys. Personal taste. I grew up with either fixed blades, or slip joints. Now I like the 111mm and 130mm Victorinox models.
    Wish that corkscrew on the Hunter XT was an awl, though. It is great for undoing wet knots, but I'd rather an awl. I have some models with the Phillips, but honestly I don't have much of a need to deal with screws in the great outdoors. And besides, I have a Leatherman Surge kit for bushcrafting, with any drivers I might need for equipment. But I never much use drivers in the wild.
    For me, the XT, and the no-saw XS, are great carry. Spent 50 years-plus with only a slip joint in my pocket, two-handed for opening and closing. Not a problem. For ladder work around the house, I have one-hand opening AND closing multitools--that's where it counts for me.
    I do agree that the velcro is not good. Indeed very noisy on a crisp morning in a forest. Quiet snaps are best. Though there is a silent velcro, which when you pull down on the closing flap, releases the tiny hooks. Supposedly developed for military use. Most velcro stops functioning in a year or two, except my Israeli army mag pouches. Great velcro, but that's not the usual.
    I also have the XS models. The same but no saw. One can usually find the combination of tools desired with all the Victorinox models available. The "bone" saw is exactly the same as the excellent wood saw found on many Vic knives. Don't know why a wood saw is bone saw just because this model is a hunter's knife .
    With a little practice, a half-round diamond file can sharpen the serrations without too much fuss. A question of practice. If the skill is important, we learn.
    Cheers from Israel--enjoy the knife and the wildlands!

    That saw rips trough bone like butter. super usefull to cut the pelvis bone.

    I don’t see why the velcro would be a problem. You don’t need the knife until after the animal is already down. Its not like you’re using it to actually kill an animal

  • @scottnorvell2955
    @scottnorvell2955 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    To the noisy case, if you’re getting your knife out haven’t you already killed your game? No issues
    Next, the gut hook is great for opening fish for cleaning and the back of the saw is great for scaling.
    Next, it’s called a HUNTER. not sure why you bought it for EDC. It’s literally marketed to process game. Silly.
    Better to get the one with the corkscrew so you can add the Tortoise Gear fire kit and it’s also great for undoing paracord knots.
    It’s a great outdoor hunting and fishing knife.
    Also yes it IS a drop point. Not sure what that comment was all about.

    By the way, the European version of this has a corkscrew in place of the Phillips. Apparently this is a very common cultural adaptation for Victorinox. Make of that what you will.

    A good knife. I like the overall size, the grip and feel of this knife. The wine opener isn't necessary and could be better replaced with an Awl. I would like to see the material more rubberized, for better ease of gripping when your hands are wet. One can never have enough knives. For the money, it provides a good value.

    • @adrianjagmag
      @adrianjagmag ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The two material scales provide more than enough grip, even when one has wet hands :)

    gutting blade?
    I think I would but have not used either of this type. I think they used to have a non serrated one but that may have been Wenger?

    It's a great stand by emergency food. 3plus year shelf life. Anyone that doesn't have a few cans of this and a few cans of spam. In case of a emergency situation is foolish. Power outage, or what ever. I currently have 12 spam 6 bacon flavor, 6 hickory smoked flavor, and 10 cans of Underwood deviled ham..call me whatever. But 20 years in the army and eating C ration and MREs I wont be hungry in a emergency situation.
