Hi James the leak in the focus will most certainly be the vents behind the rear bumper they let water in fill up the cavity then it makes it way into the rear and front foot wells easy fix involves removing the bumper then tiger seal the vents back in problem solved cheers Nick
Correct. Exact same thing happened to my sisters.
Cheers
Had a focus 11 plate with the same 1.6 duratec engine. What a nightmare it was, water leaking coming in via the rear vents / rear lights / top of roof where the panels joins, rubbish heater matrix design leaking coolant into the footwell. Never dealing with focus’s again
@@ChopsGarage There's a number of videos covering the issue and the fix on YT
the area in the boot where the vents would leak into seems to be fairly dry but the white tide marks show the vents have been an issue but may have been looked at as looks like the seams on hatchback and around the hinges have been sealed so somebody has tried to cure at some point. all the water in the cabin could be failed or ripped door membranes and the water on the door sill is a good sign of leaking membranes
Door seals - Stick them back with STIXALL from screwfix, it can work but often new seals is the only way to fully fix.
On that focus. Door rubbers and pull the roof rail trims off and seam seal it up. The white gunk on the boot is seam sealer. These focus crack along the seams where the body joins. For that much water I’d expect cracks all along the roof to body side. Seal along all the joins for roof and boot.
Also the door rubbers buy proper new ones don’t cheap out sticking back on they never work!
Also you’ll want a new ABS sensor with the focus as the Speedo wasn’t working when you drove it on site. If it was battery the Speedo doesn’t drop out
Seems a bit daft messing with an old megane, that's just above scrap while trading off the minimal work focus, you've already diagnosed the fault, just chuck a abs sensor in it,you should have just stuck a drink across the megane and got rid.
Sounds like a good call on the Focus - tracing water leaks can be a right PITA so with that and the fault codes think you are probably well rid.
That car looks like it's been driven through water !!
100% water coming in from grills behind rear bumper guaranteed only way take bumper off seal them plastic things up dry the pockets out with padding will be soaked
Front abs sensor, 10 quid, seal the vents at the back, good valet and it's a different car, why not have that "good margin" for yourself, if you've not time to vallet it get someone in, wheel sensor should take 10 mins.
Contact adhesive, evo stick etc.. Good quality industrial one.
Usually if an o2 sensor code comes up it's on its way out and will come back on shortly mate, check for pending codes to see if its going to flag up again.
Just read today that the e10 petrol has started throwing engine management light on older cars
Father in laws focus was found to be leaking from the vents behide the rear bumper. The sealing foam goes hard and leaks water into the rear.
My old Hyundai has never had the engine warning light come on in 13 years and 293,000 miles. The focus I had before had the light come on once but only because the dealer hadn't filled up the eolysis fluid tank at the last service.
Ive been caught out with UCH faults (Renault name for body control module) on the Meganes and Clios from that era, where it has seemed like a switch fault but it actually ends up being the UCH, internal corrosion to the relays which presents as a lack of feed to/from the component.
Hopefully its just the switch but dont be surprised if the UCH is duff, they can be repaired quite cheaply by a guy I've used before who advertises on ebay
Thanks bud think that's what boys are doing but not sure they know the relearn correctly as the no wipers and washers on the new body control seems more likely restart to me
Damp! On older cars the CANBUS communicates with various control modules and damp gets into the electrons within those control models when the car is laid up for a while.
As you say, low voltage is also an issue as the various control modules don't get enough juice to power up properly.
Hi James I have had a 2012 focus for 2 years now and fixed the same problems. The leak will probably be the vents behind the rear bumper that need taking off and resealing and the abs, traction light and the speedo not working with the steering sometimes feeling heavier is all down to the wheel speed sensor. Exact same thing happened to me and was intermittent, got a new sensor from Ford and fixed all the problems.
wurth bond and seal is best fix for focus door rubbers
Oh cheers
Use Tiger Seal to fix those door rubbers in place. Re the boot leak, the previous attempts at sealing the seams were probably correct but pull those roof strips back and re-seal the lot.
3M Black Super Weatherstrip Adhesive is fantastic for sticking back on rubber seals.
Top video chops. Shame everything is built down to a price and not meant to last. Cheers.
Cheers mate
thing is when you clear a oxygen sensor they can take a month if its not that bad for it to return thats what mine did so i just replaced it
The fabia 1.2 I have always throws a bank 1 sensor fault every few months and it's always about 5 minutes after starting from cold and I am coasting down a hill from my home.i have reset it at least 6 times and it will always through up a light in exactly the same place.
Didn't know if it was related to engine starts or miles travelled so I have fitted a new sensor and reset trip meter so let's see what happens.
The water on the focus maybe coming in though the vents seal behind the rear bumper. A very common problem
With the front left abs probably be the sensor but i have had the pick ring damaged which is part of the wheel bearing
Cheers
I had a Ford Mondeo that had the doors internally leaking from the outside to the inside. I solved by applying plastic curtains behind the door cards.
A chap i knew slightly had his car filling with rainwater. It was because he'd run a cable of a out through the door rubber for a light bar. Just not very well.
Chops, the leak in the boot is really common on the focus. Easy to fix - go underneath and there’s a black bung plug on each side at the rear of the car. Remove the bung, with long nose pliers remove the insulation - this can be a pain, as its soaking. Leave the bungs out, as this will increase airflow and keep the area dry. Root cause is vents behind the bumper, but no point re sealing as it never lasts on our roads
Cheers
Cheers
Interesting video. Topdon is the go to product as you and many others say who deal in cars where issues are likely. Think you did the best thing with the focus.
They are great company
The rubbers on my focus came of and I used tiger seal and its still on.7 years later
Oh cool
Good call moving the Ford focus water 💧 sponge on.
Lol , then got to boot of one I kept.....
Loctite 406 for the rubber seals. Clean first then apply using this.glue.
How much do topdon pay you for a 20 minute add?😂😂 keep up the good work though.👍
Another great video james have you thought about getting some trical chargers may solve a lot of your battery fault codes
2:56
the water could be coming from:
-the rear light clusters
-vents behind the bumper need re-sealing with silicone
and sometimes top roof rack trim
lots of videos out there
hose down the car and you will see where its entering 💦
problem is the water can penetrate past the boot floor, and under the rear seats
put your hands in the rear foot well, if its damp, i dont know if the ongoing headache will be worth the trouble
Cheers
I bought a River 75 with sopping wet rear carpets. Someone had even drilled drain holes in the spare wheel well. Turned out to be the cabin air outlet vent that had popped out of position. Had to take the rear bumper off to get to it, snapped it back into position, problem solved.
Wheel sped sensor or damaged tone ring
Its the vents either side behind the rear bumper its very common they need removing cleaning and resealing with tiger seal
Roof rails fiesta man just had same problem bit of silcon under them soon sorrted no rurry's
I had a mk2 focus with a matrix leak. Turns out it was a damaged O ring on one of the pipes in the footwell near the bulkhead. Took me ages to fix it and I had to get into positions I never thought possible for a 6’2” bloke 😂
Hi James ,Was watching a vid of Resurwreck Autos the other day regarding the water coming in the back of the fiestas .Have a look ,he found the water was coming in through ,from the black strips on the roof at the back of car .
The focus been for a swim?! Lol 😂 seems a load of work interesting content ❤
All door seals on those focus’s fail and are usually either hanging off or missing completely, I won’t touch them anymore!
3M VHB is 100% the best stuff to stick those door rubbers back on. Its like a clear gel type tape, its not sticky to touch but apply it to the seals and they will adhere to the door. It takes 24 hours for the bond to cure fully. I've used it on a number of Focus's with no issues
Cheers bud
Hi, another great vlog as always, wanted to ask if you have any recommendations for trade insurance and stocking loans companies??
the focus could be door membranes under the door cards. as soon as l saw the water on the sill l thought failed door membranes. people have to door cars off and cut the membranes to get at the window mech or the door and never seal them properly. the white sealer in the tailgate seams could be leaks as well the the seams are a water problem area for the focus
wreserwreck seam sealed the hell out of a rear of a ford focus
Think you made the right decision on trading it out for a small profit james👌👍
just get some strong double sided tape clear Godzilla think its called or just glue the rubber trim to the sticky pad
For the door seals ( an old aircraft trick, for baggage bay doors ). Coat both sides, rubber and mating surface, let dry, for at least an hour. When ready to install, reactivate one side with solvent, this gives you a few seconds to line it up, it sets quickly and sticks like f*ck.
Abs pump is a nightmare to remove just someone had to send it off to get the module fixed main dealer won’t £4K to do a new one lol cost £120 to get it fixed and about 4 hours to change on my daughters c max you can not put another one as it’s coded to the car immobiliser data etc
Saying that her fault was n/s wheel locking when gentle braking and the abs light on
Oh hope this is not the issue
they call the ford eco boost the eco boom now
Another really interesting video, sounds like one of those days.
It was!
@@ChopsGarage bless you. I had one the other day , fluid tank split on our car, pads and discs needed doing plus ball joints.
i was planning to get a focus 1.6 but i heard they drink fuel compare to other cars of 1.6
But will be wayyyy easier to live with , they are tough as you like
And Rot like anybody’s business
the wheel speed sensor has given up. will show engine light in amber. car cant see wheel turning... just done same fix of wifes car
My footwells on the drivers side of my Fiat 500 fill with water every time it rains. The car has been taken apart, so many things checked, still can’t find the source of the water ingress, i hope your focus is an easy fix James 🤞
Has the washer pipe that runs over that side been checked?
@@ChopsGarage yep, all drainage holes cleared out too, they stripped out the entire interior of the car, took wings, bumper and bonnet off and ran a hose over but couldn’t spot where it’s getting in. The only thing I can think of is now is to take the door card off and see if it’s getting in that way. As you can imagine my heart sinks when it’s rains and that happens a lot in Wales 🙈
@@sarahfrith1984 wing mirrors have couple holes into the door that are only sealed by foam so that could be worth checking
@@ChopsGarage I will do, thank you ☺️
Pollen filter????
Mark one Focus does not suffer from the door seal issue. Has this mark two been in a flood?
No they all get water in them had 3 in last month
100% heater matrix pipes very common
Been driven through a big big puddle I presume.
Did you look at the car before you bought it ?, I wouldn’t touch a Ford focus , nothing but problems
I think I answered that question within first few mins of vid
You've possibly had a low flying U.F.O. pass overhead, plays havoc with electrical systems !👾👾
Could be lol
Great video bud
Thanks 👍
@@ChopsGarage OK bud
Battery health is a big issue if not tip top-ish.
Defo
Another good video James 🚘🚙🚗👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏
Glad you enjoyed it
As you would say "Pure Gowld" lol
Yikes can't see the attraction of that Renault, doesn't seem worth saving to me.
No but the subscriber s wanted it
12 years how indeed did that happen lol
I know you need content. But the reader says wheel sensor. So fix that!
Good decision
Cheers
Had 3 Fords in my life - ALL absolute cheap rubbish - last one made me vow never ever to buy another
Modern cars... Yav made a rod for ya own back... Coz the sh1+🤬
cars eh nothing but trouble
True
No reason to pay £80 you can buy a good scanner for £150
?
You can your vehicle twice, your £10 Up, happy days
Sorry misunderstood you are right
Buying any scan tool is not the answer to your prayers though. You still need technical knowledge to understand what might be wrong. None of them categorically pinpoint a fault. They only give guidance and a starting point for repair. A perfect example of this is Fords software throwing a DTC for camshaft sensor when the timing belt has broken!
Gorilla glue sticks like shit to a blanket
Press on the screen at the top from the inside. Some focus windscreens go loose due to poor priming process
