    I went to school for audio and have been in the video production industry for around 10 years and I don’t think I have come across a video that goes into this much depth on this subject. 👏🏼👏🏼

    I’ve been scouring youtube for days looking for SOMEONE to explain how to soundproof a workshop. All other videos just meander about without explaining it well enough, or demonstrating it as well as I’d like. Your video explains it better than every other video by A LONG SHOT! Thank you for this so much. Subscribed! And you deserve more followers! Rock on Brother!

    I am in construction and deal with similar walls on the regular. I couldn't suggest any different in your methods. The only added step we do is use a sound putty (Hilti and 3m) and wrap all electrical boxes. Granted we are using metal boxes that attach to metal studs but it's a common requirement when conference rooms share a wall.

    • @BlakePizzey
      @BlakePizzey  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Dale, thanks for comment. I'm glad to hear its in line with what you have seen. 100% agree about the sound putty. I mention briefly my eletrical plans at the 6:56 mark in the video. The electrical inspector approved me straping electrical lines to the steel studs and just pulling them through a small hole in the drywall. I'll then surface mount box to the drywall and have eletrical lines come through the rear of the box with a connector. I will share more details in my eletrical video! Cheers.

    Awesome job explaining everything. All looks really good. Only thing I think may not work is adding the wood blocks behind each hat channel clip. I'd think that would help couple the connection to the steel stud. But....how did it work out?

    • @BlakePizzey
      @BlakePizzey  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! It turned out better than expected. I work in here each night and the family doesn't hear a peep! I plan to do a follow up video in 2022 with sound readings.

    Hi Blake, thanks for a very informative video, would it be possible to use OSB in place of the 2nd sheet of drywall? I would like to have French cleats on all my walls.

    • @BlakePizzey
      @BlakePizzey  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Sean! You bet. I believe drywall is slightly better because it has more mass than OSB but I wouldn't sweat it. Try to decouple the wall material from your studs one way or another though.

      @@BlakePizzey Thanks Blake, I am building a free-standing garage with clay bricks and cement, I live in a complex so it is important to minimize the sound I produce in the workshop. I will de-couple with a resilient channel of sorts. I watched the video if the completed workshop, very nice! Well done.

    how do you soundproof noise through the vent of people talking from 1 room to another?

      Are you asking in general? Google "transfer air duct". Really the only solution.

      @@BlakePizzey nope it's not. I'm looking at it for basement shop, but I might just go with Rockwell on my ceiling and 5/8 sheet. Btw I think I'm going to buy a supercell..over the v system as I already have an older v system in my garage so I want to try the high pressure 4" system..

      I will say though, my wife can be directly above in the kitchen and not hear a single thing. I'll get full readings though.

      @@BlakePizzey ok cool. I’m soundproofing a room also so I’m just curious. The only step I’m doing different that I didn’t notice if you did or not is I’m adding two layers of 5/8 drywall and green glue up between the ceiling joists.

    • @BlakePizzey
      @BlakePizzey  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Right on and best of luck! I did 2 layers of 5/8" board suspended with hat track on sound isolation clips. It worked great.
      I would be worried about fastening drywall directly to the joists... Even if using green glue. But if your doing the green glue between layers AND sound iso clips or resilient channel then your laughing.
