- The Marietta Branch of the Pennsylvania Railroad The route of the Byesville Scenic Railway was originally built as the "Marietta & Pittsburgh" Railway during 1871-1873. The main purpose for the building of the rail line was to haul coal from the once numerous deep mines south of Cambridge. The original line was 103 miles long, originating in Marietta. Moving northward, the line passed through the cities of Caldwell, Byesville, Cambridge, Newcomerstown, and Dover, which was the end of line. In the late 1800's the line was eventually reorganized as the Cleveland & Marietta Railway. The line eventually became part of the Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR), which already owned a rail line from Dover north to Bayard, and another rail line from Bayard north to Cleveland. Under PRR ownership, the line was an integral part of the direct link between Cleveland and Marietta. Despite the fact the road did join its namesake cities, it eventually would simply become known as the "Marietta Branch” of the Pennsylvania Railroad

Byesville Scenic Railway operated until late August 2011. In 2012 despite attempts to restart operations, Zemba Bros bought the trackage between Byesville and Derwent in 2013 and would not allow train rides. The track sat unused until August 2016 when CSX began running a through train from Columbus to Byesville for stone runs before passing the torch to Ohio Central. The Ohio Central continues to run X Stone trains over the trackage Byesville Scenic operated. I have been doing seasonal updates on the Byesville Scenic Railway since June 2014.
I visited and rode Byesville Scenic Railway in October 2006 and October 2008 when ex Canadian Pacific Railroad steam locomotive #1293 visited. On its' 2008 visit, I got to climb in the cab and shovel coal into its' firebox.
This information is awesome, really appreciate it. Really wish I could of got a trip on it.. and I knew The OC was running stone trains, but dud not know that about CSX.. again appreciate this info and you watching..
Thank you for the support and pushing me that 1 up to 500! I connected too. I love old trains, cars and planes.♥
@@AnneHeyns thank you Anne, I don't know why I didn't think to hit you with this channel sooner.. hope you enjoy the content. I know it's not for everyone. But there's a good variety, not just trains passing by all the time.. appreciate you
0:54 the windows are sealed up because in October 2015, some vandals came and broke the windows.
The locomotive is an elongated 80 tonner centercab.

It's a Shame Ohio has lost several Excursion Trains over the Past Several Years. You would think Ohio Tourism would help keep some of these Railroads Alive
For sure Matt, I never got to ride on this one, but there has been a fee I've riden that are Ling since gone. So sad, appreciate you watching
