- There’s about 20 muscles in the forearm, but let’s try make it approachable. We’ll learn the forms of the 3 muscle groups and the tendons of the wrist. Premium lesson at proko.com/anatomy
The forearm is a complicated area with nearly 20 muscles overlapping and interacting. There are several patterns that make the forearm manageable to draw. It can be simplified into three main groups: the flexors, the extensors, and the ridge muscles. Each group has it’s own unique form. Learning their anatomy will help you design awesomely dynamic arms. It’s a fun and info-packed lesson. If you’re struggling with forearms, hopefully this will help.

Hey guys! I'll be covering hands in the next lesson. Let me know in the comments what you want to learn about the hands. What do you struggle with? If you agree with someone else’s comment, upvote it and I’ll make sure to include the most requested ones in the next lesson. Thanks!
i struggle with puting the fingers in perspective.
I struggle with my fingers around my wang. Just wraps half way around. I think its because I have small fingers. :(
Proko I want to know:
1, How to design the fingers so that they don't look like lifeless sticks :(
2, How the palm deforms when the thumb and pinky moves around :(
3, How to design the wrist in extreme flexing or extending position.
Thanks Stan :)
I struggle with drawing meaty fingers and not stick fingers.
Hands are hard, but there are 2 things I struggle the most with: The form of the thumb, from the wrist to the fingernail, and that fleshy part between it and the index finger... And the back of the hand, with all the tendons and veins. Adding shadows to that is quite hard to me.
Well, that and making it expressive. So I guess the _gesture_ of the hand?
My god the forearms feels like the final boss of anatomy. Makes you appreciate the people that mastered drawing them.

Thanks so much bro!
is the ridge muscle the same as brachioradiales?
@@sageofmugen1724the ridge = Brachiorad + extensor carpi rad long and brevis
thank you so much@@user-vp3gg4fe2w
@@user-vp3gg4fe2w do you know why proko classifies ridge as separate muscles? ive looked around online and no other resources seem to do that. the ridge muscles are just classified as extensors elsewhere
This video got me really excited to draw, before this video I didn't even have a reason to get out of bed. I just want you to know that you really help people, and not only with drawing.

Can I just say, that intro song/ theme, bloody brilliant. No matter how long it's been I can always whistle along to that tune.
I'm, SO HAPPY, that this came out. I've been struggling with forearms since forever.
After struggling through many tutorials with regards to the forearms, it made me realize shortcuts don't help for future learning and just waste future time. You don't take shortcuts to anatomy and it's much appreciated.

PROKO! PLEASE DO THAT TIME LAPSE OF MUSCLES FOR EVERY BODY PART! IT WAS SO MUCH MORE INFORMATIVE THAN JUST PHOTOS.
Slower though would be nice, but seeing different arms, forms postions and transitions was so awesome!
Thanks for the vids yo
Nothing has thrown me for a 3d loop more than these friggin' forearm muscles. My word. But this video really REALLY helps. Thanks, Proko!!
To be a great artist is one thing (which Stan certainly is) but to be able to teach so effectively... Stan is a viking! This is a real gift! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO. Honestly, I've been trying to figure out the forearms for so long and was dying to see a video on them from you.You sir, are a savior ♡
none of these muscles are clearly visible on my arm lol
Maybe youre like me and you have some subcutaneous fat that makes it difficult to see them.
@@holydiver6570 or maybe hes like me and just plain fat :)
Or maybe he's just lean af and not built at all
FAT!, sign just like me
I’m so sorry
Impeccable timing with me being sick and in a TH-cam binge. Thanks Proko!
I must say. Proko is the best channel for someone who wants to learn anatomy in a proper way🤞 ❤
Gracias Proko, estoy eternamente agradecida por el trabajo en tus videos. La traducción me ayudo un montón también a poder disfrutar de todas las lecciones. Un abrazo enorme y buena suerte a todos
Thank you so much for this! I've been struggling with the placement of all the forearm muscles, and this helped me a great ton!
This video is toooo good...Thank you a lot Mr. Proko. Drawing forearm was a nightmare for me. Thank you, thank you !
Thank you for this lesson! It's very helpful :D Even though I still will struggle with it a lot. Learning muscles and motion is hard, but it totally worth it :)
Thank you for this video not only does help me with drawing but also with my anatomy classes.
this is the best tutorial I´d ever seen congratulations
The topic i've been waiting for since this series started!
so much to learn but you make it as fun as it gets
Found this on Tumblr and this was really interesting to watch. For one I'm glad that I'm not horribly off when I draw forearms but I still have alot to learn. I think when i have time I will do your drawing assignment.
Amazing tutorial, really good way of teaching !!!!
Thank you for all the guidance, Proko! 👍👍👍
perfect timing, thanks proko
I saw this video many many times, Play. Pause. Draw. Play. Pause. Draw....
Every time I see it I learn something new. Thank you so much! I thought I would never be able to understand it
Really good video.
I mostly have problems with remembering the distinct groups, where they start and where the go in which position. Color might come in handy for studying purposes.
10:12 I'm just leaving this here incase anyone wants to see it again.
Badass
Pug Mommy thanks 😂
amazing video, amazing human machine! the expression on Marshall Vandruff's face at 9:24 ... priceless!
Absolutely amazing video.
thank you for your instructions

this is the most useful video so far.damn...
Very useful thanks.
This teaches me a lot
When Proko says absolutely in the beginning, I felt like I was looking at god in the video. lol Your video is really awesome, I have studied anatomy pretty much but I am learning a ton from your video. Thank you!
Parabéns pelo agradável conteúdo.
Chain design is very helpful.
How interesting, an hour ago I checked to see if you had a video on forearms lol.
very nice!!! thank you
Awesome lesson as always! Loved the tobacco scene! My grandmother still thinks snuff tobaco is cool. In fact she still do it!
How did I miss this video, I struggled with this for a long time.
This helped me as an armwrestler
AMAZING PROKO ;)

Proko Rules!!

best part
I really shouldn't eat or drink while watching these. The second he snorted that tabaco, there was coffee all over my monitor. lmao
Thanks Proko!
at 1:49, it is unclear if we are looking at these pictures from the eyes or from below because I was confusing the orientation of inside and outside the body. If the hand palm is pointing up, the left picture is taken from below but that is confusing if you are looking at your own arm from above because you get inside and outside wrong.
i like your videos because you teach us how muscles works, and how draw each one (atleast the most important muscles for an artist). i think every person who wants draw better and stop drawing their characters like lifeless sticks must learn everything from your videos. hate read 1000 page books? check and whatch proko's videos. if you can learn with him (or any other great artist like him) then you will be able to "deform" muscles as you want to make any character in any style. please keep working. you deserve every like and subs you have.
also if you can do in the future a video where you do 3 draws (front, side and back) from a complete body that will be amazing. just imagine 1 video where you can see how to draw muscles from each video about muscles.
greetings from chile :3 and sorry for my bad grammar
Great vid- you didnt cover the anconeus?
on my 4th rewatch and i'm aaaaaalmost getting the idea
Hi Proko! How can I add dramatic gestures to the hand without looking like a bunch of cylinders? Thank you!
nice video bro
Did you really snorted some charcoal dust...?
+Fer AXAG lol no. I exhaled.
Fer AXAG that was the moment i clicked the thumbs up
Proko now has lung cancer
The immediate finger wigglins, idk why but I am instantly entertained
For the hand video, I would like to know more about the thumb in general and how to draw the fingers in the closed position. I have trouble making the skin and fat sit naturally in the drawing.
i dont know why but your detailed mathematical and sientific explanations help me better than classic lessons
Can you explain the Palmaris Longus. I have both of'em on both arms.
"Hi I'm Stan Prokopenko and welcome to proko" - I think that's a tongue twister!
Proko faz uma versão desse canal em português por favor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m still rewatching this :DD
thanks.
im rly into art thx for helping proko lol hope u rply
Hey Guys, u did not name the 7th Extensor (3:37) in the whole video. Is that one an extensor? is it the third one sampled during the thumb section? (6:12). Thanks for the awesome content
You look like mortiaty from sherlock
I like ur pfp
Great lessons, but my problem is that you cover mostly very mascular people. All the muscles are highly visible and it is OK. But most of people are not muscular. So, how to draw well the body parts that are flat, with no visible muscles? I love what you said about the showman. It is the idea!!! For me the snowman look drawings is the biggest problem.
after all these videos, i could be a surgeon!
I'm using you as a meme lmao "deal with it" legend
This is getting out of hand! Now there are 3 of them!
This might be the hardest anatomy of the upper body it will take time
If there's one muscle I'll never forget, it's Extensor Carpi Radialis Longus (#customGangsterPose). LOL man! Proko 10:04 was dope!
nice
Oh this one is tuff
I ready to watch Stan's video only for these humor sketchs
YAY!
I hope someone can help enlighten me, I got confused at the 1:44, it state that the medial epicondyle position when the arm faces upwards and below is different. However, when the arm faces downwards or upwards (pronated and supinated) only the radius is moving, how come the medial epicondyle is in different location when the arm faces upward or downward when the humerus is not moving?
Please help me if anyone figures this out. Thank you! 🙏🙏🙏
Hey Stan. Thank you so much for great content! As a heads up, in case you didn't know or approve, it looks like a large amount of your photo reference has been uploaded to the quickposes library. ( quickposes. com /en/library/view/362)
Thanks for the heads up Michael. We checked it out and those are our free photos that people get when signing up to the newsletter so it's all good : )
1:14 on the right it looks like the arm is in the shape of those mini vacuums that are cylinders and slowly curve to a rectangle
So uh... how can I be able to get assignments for this on your website... or do the courses cost money
the goat
Do a video of how to draw the chest
0 dislikes haha, amazing!
"That means draw them, not just look at them"
hehehehe...he
I guess this will serve as an incentive to become a Chad so that I can improve as an artist since right now NONE of these muscles are visible on my arm.
Marshall!! :D
Proko! I do hope you do the legs and feet at some point, they're what I'm most interested in learning about right now ^^'.
+Jillian Crawford I will :) Right after I finish hands.
Proko Thank you so much! My art is 1000 times better because of you and I am extremely grateful every day that you exist!
