Forearm muscles

  • With a little clanging in the background from Anthony I work through the muscles of the forearm on a plastic model with a little help from my own arm and a skeleton.
As a number of people have noticed, I make a verbal slip and say "flexor" instead of "extensor" at one point when talking about extensor carpi radialis. Watch out! I can't add a note to the video as TH-cam removed this function. Well done to those paying attention and using their brains.

I’ve just bumped into your videos. It’s had to express how amazing these videos are in these times. Anatomy & Physiology is not easy online. My class was only converted to online because of SARS-CoV-2. Its next to impossible to memorize all of the muscles, with insert and origin, from a piece of paper that is 2D space. I’ll admit I wasn’t doing well. I was not understanding the descriptions and correlating them to the muscles in my body. However, in 2 hours and 4 videos, I’ve managed to not only remember all of the muscles for the back, posterior neck, pectoral girdle, and remember all their insertions and origins, too.
I wanted to say thanks. I think I would have failed my exam. Now, i’m feeling much more confident. I may not get an A, but I definitely won’t get an F. Juli

I'll make it easier for you!
Flexor Compartment = 3 layers 8 muscles all up.
    1. pass fail pass fail = pronator teres, fcr, palmaris longus, fcu
    2. girlie punch = fds (seriously, contract fds and look)
    3. man's punch = fpl, fdp, pq (complete finger flexion, thumb flexion, pronation)
    Extensor Compartment
    2 layers of 6 = 12 muscles all up (forearm muscles = 20)
    1. superficial layer runs medial to lateral
    BRadialis
    ECRL
    ECRB
    ED
    EDM
    ECU
(the only non obvious exclusion from this list is EI. this can be remembered by grouping EI with the neighboring snuff box in the deep layer)
    2. deep layer runs prox to distal
    anconeus
    supinator
snuff box (APL, EPB, EPL....remember it is a brevis sandwich. a brevis in the middle of two longus)
    EI
    Intrinsic Hand muscles
    1. All for one and one for all (APB, FPB, OP, AddP, ODM, FDM, ADM) = 7
    2. lumbricals = 4
    3. PadDab (3 Palmar Interossei, 4 Dorsal Interossei) = 7
    747 = 18 intrinsics

'it's just a bunch of acronyms' LOL
what do you think health professionals use to remember large swathes of data?
Why don't you explain how you remember the 12 muscles of the posterior forearm compartment?
remembering these things is about breaking them own into smaller manageable units.
I am a doctor. I use these acronyms to remember muscles. I have others for nerves and arteries.
I can only presume you have a stellar memory and can recall at will any muscle in the body.

I believe yes. If he is in the posterior side those muscles extend the arms and fingers. The anterior muscles are the flexors. So I do believe he says flexor carpi radialis but it is EXTENSOR carpi radialis longus as well as another muscle called extensor carpi radialis brevis. Aside from that I’m I the only one going crazy with anatomy as well as loving it :)

Sam Webster >>thanks for sharing you much needed information......I am here to try to figure out which video might help me learn what do do for my frozen elbow and very sore muscles/tendons. I used a garden tractor (miniature one) 14 days ago.......I seemed to be ok sorta the next day but just a huge bruise. I take blood thinners and was told by ER doctor 5 days later that I had a broken blood vessel and that the Xarelto that I take made it bleed more.......Today it is 14 days since it happened and I cannot straighten my arm......A local doctor said I needed to exercise it, so as not to have a frozen elbow indefinitely......do you have a video that addressed regaining use of the elbow.......? thanks very much. I do not want to loose my use of my elbow........what are your recommendations ???
