I've been in a slump when it comes to these fish over my last 8 outings. Glad Billy and I were able to link up with Sam for some action! I've seen quite a few comments saying how musky fishing doesn't seem worth it, and to most people it may not be...but I'd take 20 trips without seeing a fish for a day like this. Caught my first sight fishing musky on the river on light tackle back in December of 2012. Medium walleye rod with 15 lb test on an 1/8 oz jig with a 3 inch paddle tale. Super fat 44 incher. Snow on the ground, a foot of ice near the bank, so cool lol. Been doing it ever since and caught countless fish that way, such an under utilized technique. GREAT vid Matt 🔥🔥🔥🤙

Just wanted to hop on hear to say this is my favorite Musky vid I've ever watched. I fish the Monongahela River in PA/WV mostly so i'm a sucker for any river Musky related footage. I caught my personal best after 2 seasons just last weekend. I would love to come float with Sam sometime cause sight fishing these toothy critters looks like a blast. Good stuff guys, can't wait to see what day 2 brought, hopefully that tank you tried for so hard.

@@SBFishing Oh wow that's crazy cause thats exactly how many of the Musky that were caught this summer in our area were caught. We know a ton of the fisherman on our stretch of the river and it seems that there were almost as many caught by the Bass guys as there was us Musky guys. We are gonna use that bit of info to change up our game for next year. I did finally get my boat down here to Virginia and fished smith mountain lake today. What a beautiful lake. I caught one bass about 2 1/4 lbs and had one get off about the same size. Tough conditions though but still had fun.

I accidentally caught a muskie a week ago while bass fishing, pitching at some docks with a nedrig, barely got it netted and in the kayak.

So I am completely ignorant to musky fishing...techniques, baits etc, but my question is why would a person use light line for these type of huge thrashing fish?
For the most part, we’re using 80lb braid to 80-100lb fluoro or steel leader. I think Sam had the jig set up on a lighter rod and line because of how clear the water is and tried keeping the bait a bit more natural.

Why not tie a leader on the small jig rod so you don't loose baits and leave them with a jig in there mouth
