    Sony advertised FX9 as FF 6k camera but is not able to shoot in FF 6k even after firmware upgrade (Image sensor scan size is around 5K). What's the problem Sony?

    • @philipbloom

      Kenny Shem recording codec. It can’t do over 4K DCI. Hoping they can put it a new codec at some point. BUT 6K downsampled to 4K absolutely does give you better detail and lower noise...

    You have compared many cameras. Is it worth buying UMP G2 compared to Bmpcc4k, Zcam E2 F6. I am interested in the dynamic range and price / quality so that I can squeeze a high-quality, cinematic picture. Now I’m watching Sony Fx9- that I like colors very much, but expensive and without anamorphic mode. What do you advise?

    • @retlwiz
      @retlwiz 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      UMP is such a great camera for a third of the price of the FX-9 and is more of a cinema camera. The Sony is great for doc and TV work, especially if you like the autofocus, which a G2 doesn’t have. If I had the money I would go for the G2 and spend the remaining on a good lens or two, but then my interest is more narrative work. It depends what you want to film.

    For most of us, just get a S1H or BMPCC6K... Technology now goes too fast to invest $10k in a system that might become obsolete in 2 years term.... FS7 and C300 were the last models that became a standard because they were relevant for almost 5 years +/-....now that will not be the case with these two...

    • @shem44
      @shem44 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      These 2 cams are trying to woo users who are using or considering RED and the price point is very attractive when compare in that arena. For the same $ you can only get a RED brain. These systems do not become obsolete in 2 years. It is our desire for newer camera that is playing with the heart.

      the s1h and bmpcc6k are great, but not in the same league at all. no inbuilt nd filters, no usable reliable auto-focus (s1h is ....alright af),, s1h currently lacks raw, s1h does have gyro stabilizer but you cant choose the amount in post (its either on or off). while bmpcc6k isn't full frame (although there is a internal speed booster coming), bmpcc6k only 13 stops of dynamic range vs 15 stops. and than there is the form factor and sales pitch. if you're hiring two identically skilled people for a job and one is using a c500 mkii and the other a blackmagic pocket 6k who do you think is more likely to get the work (assuming same skill level)

    • @p_adam19

Most of my paid work is not on my channel as it’s for clients. Shame you felt the need to write negativity like that. Never understood the reasoning behind people who do that? The need to be pull people down. Can you explain why you felt the need to do that please Jordan? BTW I am

      @@philipbloom
      First of all - I'm commenting on a video that you are in, not that you made. I'm surprised by the fact that you were included in the panel as I think there are a lot of incredible young DP's who are pushing boundaries and are not being asked their opinions. Again, you are a fine teacher, reviewer and seem like a nice guy.
      I also just made the comment on a whim without thinking you would read it, I'm sure you have gone to a movie and said you didn't like it without thinking the director is sitting beside you listening.
      Secondly, I'm curious why you care so much what I think...commenting on my videos to try and get me to respond. The comment was pretty mild, and I'm allowed an opinion. The comment was not meant as a personal attack. I mean, you're on TH-cam so chill out, not everyone is going to like your stuff.
      Lastly, if you want more critical feedback I can provide more details (though you don't seem like you take criticism well). Without going through all of your stuff this is what I'll say:
      1) It seems like you rarely consider colour theoury and often have colours that don't coordinate or have attempted to been matched in post.
      2) You often go for slow motion to create mood and tension rather than composition.
      3) A lot of your work is over-lit.
      4) Your camera movement is repetitive and lacks creativity.
      5) Your shots overall portray a lack of concept.
      That being said
      I probably shouldn't have said I think you're a bad DP, more that your work is not my taste, so for that I'm sorry.

    • @philipbloom
      @philipbloom 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jordan Clarke It wouldn’t even cross my mind to say something negative about
      someone or their work on a video linked to them. The concept is so baffling to me. Are you entitled to an opinion? Of course? Should you always use that entitlement? Not for everything, no.
      Opinions should be used in things like discussions and have an actual reason in the first place. There was no benefit to anyone here. There was only negativity and there is way too much of that already in life.
      Saying that it’s TH-cam and to expect is simply a pathetic excuse and you damn well know it. “It’s ok. It’s the internet” IS NEVER AN EXCUSE. Thats why I don’t look at twitter feeds any more as people say such awful things about everything. It brings out the worst in humanity.
      My advice, not that you care, is maybe remember that the next time you decide to write something negative about someone, especially if there is a high chance they will read it, is to remember that they are a person too. Your words have affected me. WORDS HURT TOO you know. Everyone, including me, is really worried about the future with all
      work cancelled.
      If we had met it real life, maybe you were in the audience of this, tell me this; would you put you hand up and say this to me? I will leave that with you. Thanks and stay healthy.

      @Jordanc87 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Philip, I honestly think you are overreacting a bit, but I'm glad you re-thought and deleted your initial response. In any case I'm very sorry that you have taken this so personally. I honestly did not intend to ruin your day. As I said it wasn't a personal attack and I think we disagree about the place for constructive criticism. I wish you the best.

    • @CineD
      @CineD  4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Canon was cool enough and confident enough to have no problem in being put side-by-side with the latest offering by their rival, in a fair and balanced discussion. The entire event was sponsored by Canon and that included some Canon-specific presentations by Hans von Sonntag that we will also still publish. They had no influence whatsoever in this discussion other than "providing" the camera. And I think you have to admit that it's a very fair discussion indeed. Nino

      @@pfwinbar I didn't pick up on anything unfair or unethical in this video. Seemed like an honest chat through of the basic features of the cameras which at this point are common knowledge... I'm in the market for a new A Camera and this is my second watch through. I was almost sold on the FX9 on the basis that my company owns an F5 and most of my work over the last few years has been Alexa, Amira, F5 or FS7. I am however, after a ton of research, swaying towards the C500 m2 as in my opinion it is a more versatile and complete package... Cameras are just tools to professionals and professionals will pick the right tools for their work. Both look like great cameras... I think Philip Bloom can hold his own when it comes to his thoughts on cameras. He obviously rates the FX9 and is as good an ambassador as Sony could ask for, so I wouldn't worry too much about it if i were you.
