I remember seeing these shows when they came out, and noticed that Dean Martin was totally smitten with her. He couldn't take his eyes off of her. She appeared to reciprocate the feelings.
Love how his eyes don't leave her. Dean always said he try to perform to the person he working with not the t.v. camera. That's what made Dean show speical. His great guest no matter who they was the center of his show, play off each of them. These 2 was great together.
Toni Wilson That’s how he and Jerry always worked together. They both said that part of the reason why they were so successful was because; “we both played to each other and not the audience” But I think another part of the secret (apart of course from the unrepeatable chemistry they had together) was the way they DID include and share with the audience whenever things went wrong in a sketch. Which they did of course because of the anarchic nature of the act, and the fact that it was live so there could be no retakes. Jerry in particular often broke the ‘fourth wall’ and stepped out of a sketch when props didn’t work properly, to explain what was supposed to have happened, and why it didn’t. They understood that people love to be included in the joke.
THANK YOU FOR YOU TUBE. Without You Tube I would have totally missed these shows as I was born at the stert of the Sixties. Being a MASSIVE lifelong fan of the UNMATCHABLE Petula Clark I would not have seen such wonderful shows like this one. I am soooooooooo glad that they invented Smartphones because with them I can watch my beautiful Petula forever. I LOVE THIS Routine by the way. It is an Absolute Classic. Petula and Dean both at their MAGNIFICENT BEST.
Petula clarke came from West Ewell in Surrey where l used to live she grew up there and everyone knew her and her family my dear late husband's dad worked with petulas dad who was also. Her manager f for years and they were great friends everyone in West Ewell wad very proud that petula got so great West Ewell I'd a very small village in epsom Surrey England xx
I must have been 14 back in those days, and although rock-n-roll was the music of preference in my generation, I remember I loved that show. It brings me good memories. Petula Clark was definitely one of my favorites.
Did anyone else notice the cute moment @0.24 when Petula rubbed her itchy nose and Dean grinned, and a moment later teased her by copying the gesture. When she noticed you can see her say “stop it!” as she slapped him on the shoulder!😄
Really such a beautiful moment.... & so refreshing to see that ... extempore reactions full of natural friendly chemistry there ...between two great artists...thanks for sharing ...I had missed it .... without ur pointing out would have missed this wonderful experience....Petula seems so beautiful playful ...
Dr.Sudhakar Powar To me, that’s one of the interesting things about You tube. When you can re-watch these old shows as often as you like, you often catch moments in the background that the original TV audiences would probably have missed, especially as so many of them were broadcast ‘live’ at the time, and not really made to be shown again, like today’s programmes. For the same reason, of course, there were no re-takes, so any ‘bloopers’ had to be left in!
Petula Clark sings a wonderful medley of songs about happiness and love with superb Crooner Dean Martin. Petula as ever is at her most beautiful and her voice in absolutely perfect pitch. I am a lifelong fan of Petula Clark and have loved Dean Martin's singing since I first heard "Little Old Wine Drinker Me." The two of them together makes me wish that they had recorded an album together. They suit each other so incredibly well don't they? *Love this brilliant video thank you so very much for uploading it.
His mind was set on Petula. They both had a great respect for each other. I can not understand why Petula never recorded "You Make Me So Very Happy"(originally sang by the group Blood,Sweat and Tears) because Petula brief rendition here is absolutely FANTASTIC. She is impeccable with every pure note that she sings. She also is fantastic looking as well. W-O-W!!!!
Dean was like a couch/sofa, every guest would feel confortably with him

Love to hear Dean and Petula singing Lay Some Happiness.
Nose itching? Old folks say that means you will kiss a fool. And he rubbed his nose right back! Love it!
Am I the only one here who thinks the nose itch thing was a cocaine tic that Dean Martin recognized? And totally made fun of her for being so obvious
@@ZippyMrMew wait… Petula on cocaine?? Never heard that one.
