Yes, and some of her early recordings with Chic Webb and a little later on really display that delightful girlish quality in her recordings. Ella started out great and just became greater.

No matter how much time goes by, watching and listening to Dean Martin always make me smile. What is better than that? Ella Fitzgerald is perhaps one of the great under rated vocalists in American history. It’s truly a shame nobody from today’s generation knows who she was. They are both pure American treasures.
Started my daughter in singing lessons about 10 yrs. Ago. Instructor started her off with jazz. Not POP! People would be like why is she singing 1940 music? I ask where else to start learning how to master and use talent to truly entertain! My family and myself feel fortunate to have been educated about this beautiful music and entertainers. And the time they entertained in.
She definitely was not underrated! She was a national treasure and to my opionion still is. My daughter is 22 now and I raised her listening to Ella, Frankie, Billie, Miles etc. She playes this music to her friends who didn’t have parents who loved this music. But they love it, the young, so there is hope!
There's plenty of people out there that can still sing. No shortage of great singers, they just don't have the songwriters, lyrics, and musicians these old timers had working together with them.
"How Long Has This Been Going On" I've never heard anyone sing it better than ELLA right here live. She is so unbelievable. Think Dean knew it was something really special so he kept pretty quiet while she was singing that. Smart. Those two voices sounded so great together.
Saw Ella in concert on my first trip to Vegas at the Sands in 1972. On a dare, she sang/scatted the local telephone book. To my dying day, almost 50 years later, I see and hear her do it!

Get it together people! Teach your children the classics! My kids loved Lois Jordan for one. But I raised them on All old jazz and blues plus classical music such as Tchaikovsky. We also listened to alternative rock plus old rock. But what my kids loved was when we took them on our one and only infamous trip to Disney(that means we did it all vip) they sang along to old jazz like louis and sachamo! They loved this music and still do in their 20"s.. Music is a beautiful thing! Many trips after we always had a wonderful and deversive mix of music to listen too. I credit my mom for that!
I'm always amazed with the audio/microphone setup of these old television shows. They set it up, no need for hand-held mics, just overhead uni-directional mics for the singers. And I think for these Dean Martin shows, there was a live band performing with them. The music engineer mix it all together and it sounds as if it's pre-recorded.
When Ella sings "I could cry salty tears" Deano gets very emotional and really listens to how perfect ella is, he seems to get lost in her vocals.. Beautiful
Dean was never better than when he was with Ella or the Mills Brothers. He would step back and let them go to town without taking over as the star. Genius.
Assuming what we see while he performs is "the real" Dean Martin, then he is the most accepting person of all people...he is gracious, respectful & an admirer of good talent; male or female, young or old, "new" in the limelight or a seasoned pro. I enjoy the way he can laugh at himself, those facial expressions (!) are a hoot, & his show within a show; his actions, are right on the mark - his comedic timing superb & natural, his heartfelt seriousness was enough to draw tears. What a marvelous combination of grit, humor & sensitivity.

Assuming what we see while he performs is "the real" Dean Martin, then he is the most accepting person of all people...he is gracious, respectful & an admirer of good talent; male or female, young or old, "new" in the limelight or a seasoned pro. I enjoy the way he can laugh at himself, those facial expressions (!) are a hoot, & his show within a show; his actions, are right on the mark - his comedic timing superb & natural, his heartfelt seriousness was enough to draw tears. What a marvelous combination of grit, humor & sensitivity.
I already love Ella and Dean, but McRae has a really nice voice too

Old Dean spends most of the time listening to her, and who wouldn’t? With Dean, it went entertainer, movie star, boxer then singer, but he was such a good sport about it that nobody cared.
Ella just opens her mouth and you sit back in wonder hearing that glorious sound.

I heard her in person way back when I was a teenager because she was a favorite of my folks. Now she’s also a favorite of my daughters. The best ever!
I remember watching this stuff with my Father and Mother and little brother. We loved variety shows. It was a good time for families. This is non existent today. Sad!!!
So these are what astound us....singers who sing variety songs with ease & grace. I can’t wait for the peace of night to tune into You tube and somehow get my fix. Always I’m surprised by song & singer I knew before .... or am just getting to know well. I awaken (from exhaustion, confusion....dementia) awed, refreshed, astounded, graced. No need to name ‘em.
