Ukraine went to the polls this weekend to choose a new president, but pro-Russia separatists in the east did everything they could to stop voters from taking part. The stakes are especially high because while the rebels deem the interim government illegal, the Ukrainian authorities are desperate to see a strong people's mandate bestowed on a new leader who is able to quell the rebellion. VICE News correspondent Simon Ostrovsky visited a polling station in Donetsk that was actually running, as people cast their votes and the fate of the country was decided. Pro-European businessman and "chocolate king" Petro Poroshenko was later declared the election winner. Poroshenko said that his first goal in office would be to resolve the crisis in eastern Ukraine, which so far is not showing any sign of ending.

9:30 That lady has guts. She deserved way more respect. The irony of those Russian separatists, calling her fascist and worse while they were the ones who were interfering with her freedom of choosing according to her own thinking.

***** I wasn't aware of that. It really is interesting. There was a Donbass battalion soldier in another dispatch who said that some ethnic Russians were helping them, that they saw this whole fight has a freedom vs fascism, not Russians vs Ukrainians. For Putin, I think that it must have been a tragedy for him because Moscow can no longer dictate what their satellite states can do, even though he still tries to.

The grown adult "man" that attacked her while she was just simply standing there, truly demonstrating PEACEFULLY, was disgusting. Those kinds of actions against peaceful people really make the pro-Russians appear aggressive and against peace. I am not, and have not been for either side because I feel both sides have been lying and spreading propaganda that makes it hard to favor either side, but that crap made me sick. Sorry excuses for men to put hands on a woman like that. If that's how most of the other pro-Russians behave, then I don't blame Ukrainians for wanting to move away from Russia. They call her scum as their friends finished attacking her because they simply don't agree with her; look in the mirror.

    • @HenrySims

***** I beg to differ. Look at Germany 25 years ago and now. Look at Poland and the Baltic states as well, their countries joined NATO and the EU to safeguard themselves from Russia, so that they could protect their national identity. In the end, this is all what this is about. So that Ukraine can protect it's own national identity by any means. If they truly feel Russian, they wouldn't have Maidan and these protests. If they feel Russian they would just have accepted Yanucovich deal with Russia and move along with it. The true mess is in the East of the country where people confuse their nationality with ethnicity and so on.

Janis Ladigs Exactly, I still like the fact that the woman was still standing there, and all those Pro-Russian supporters got all mad at her. Funny thing that they are calling her a sell out when it seems like they all got sold into Russia. I'm sorry, but Russia needs to get the hell out of there. Maybe you might ask why I said, Russia, well, those little green men didn't come from China, nor the USA.

I love how the crowd cries "FASCIST!" and "DIE SCUM!" and the guy tried to rip her ID out of her hand. Those people use the word Fascist like the word Communist was used throughout the Cold War in the United States. I don't think so....I see no POLITICAL movement here. These "separatist" are locals, who have clearly had enough from the fascist who slaughter them based on Russian nationality, which is absurd considering Ukraine was given, and owned by Russia. The last 23 years these people have been suffering at the hands of elite's who have no interest in there well being. Videos today show them still being slaughtered, calling the losses Russian losses....no, your killing locals that have had enough.

It seems simple you would think but lets say for example many mexicans that live in new mexico in the US want that state part of mexico again.. the thing is the Mexicans that want it to be part of mexico are not US americans and they feel like it should be part of mexico again because they feel like in history it was took away from them and there the majority of that state so there word counts. Of course the US government would never allow that to happen because it is US territory, so a fight will happen .... (that was just a example)
that is what is happening in Ukraine, REAL Ukrainians want there country to them selves not be dictate by the Russians, The Eastern Ukraine are majority Russian and not Ukrainian so they feel like they are the majority and feel like they can take away the Ukrainian land away from the Ukrainians.
I agree if they want to be Russian move back to Russia, that simple. That land is Ukraine, If you don't like Ukraine then move. Russia is the problem though, this would never happened if Putin government didn't corrupt this. People think Putin is a nice guy are kidding them selves. Putin has a lot of blood on his hands, that guy i can say is evil, he doesn't care about people lives or doing the right thing and allow Ukraine run there own government. If he really cares for those people in the east he would ask them to move back to russia. but insteAD HE WANTS A WAR TO START BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT THE GUY IS.

very true but the difference in Serbia is that people of Kosovo didnt have a country to go to . the only thing was happening to them was mass genocide and huge graves. Serbs didnt want them there and there was no where for them to go so , Serbs just mass killings. Kosovo never was sucked up by a bigger country, instead the people are protected in there new country because they don't have any. People of Kosovo at the beginning wasn't trying to steal there land. they lived peaceful with the Serbs for long time before a new government want Only Serbs
Russians that live in east Ukraine have a place to go and there own country- It is called Russia :) I bet the Ukrainian would like Russians live in there country if they don't try to steal there land from them.
      You see the difference?

Did I say anything about killing civilians being good?
If I did please point that out.
Enough of propaganda, stop making up things I didn't say, I always called for peacefull solutions and democracy, but people keep calling to arms and want a war.
Also as I said in another comment
"I am just reading the news about last conflicts.

can't find a source about 100 civilians being killed, please link (prefferably in english since I don't speak ukranian/russian)"
I am not omnipresent, I can't know everything, if you can link me to reliable sources, please do.

    • @CroatianMinecrafter

***** Both sides did and are doing horrible things.
I listen to many news sources, but most of them don't have the currage to step 1 foot inside that country, that's why I love vice news.
They don't "report" from the office and provide 3 different contradicting informations (just read a "local" news source, that just happened).
Than there are "all is fine in pro-russian part of ukraine, and in urkanian part of ukraine everybody is killing little babies" types of news (what I call putin news).
And same happens on other side (what I call Gobbels news in those "reespectfull" sources).
Ah about the atrocities, sorry I don't read the news based on how big the "killcount" is and am still trying to find reliable sources for those things (again, if you can link me, that would be great).
But my cusin got killed by a pro-russian extremist, and that's all the bad news I can take at this moment.
But what I see is pro-russians raising guns and starting hostile actions, what's the democracy there?
Even PUTIN said there should be a peacefull solution, and than you see them send convoys of armed men, like putting a rose on a gun stands for anything, a gun is a gun and it's usage is clear.
Human life is a human life, and sorry for being skeptic with news sources, hey if I heard news of pro-russians burning 50 ukranians without any confirmation, I would be skeptic about it.
If you have a source that is valid, link it, I would be happy to read it.
(also sorry, I call kidnapping and terrorizing, acts of terrorizm, what else you call gangers going door to door making sure voting does not happen, I didn't see anything like that happen when Crimea voted to become part of russia, wich I firmly acknowlage)

    • @eTheBlack
      @eTheBlack 10 ปีที่แล้ว +11

Zorin I Hmmm first time I hear that. Will have to look into that. I don't think they call protesters terrorists, but those who actually destroy governements building and terrorize other people, just like they did attack that woman. But this is going both sides. But that doesn't mean you have to attack woman standing on side of road and express her opinion. This is not midddle ages.
But then she might be hired actor? But then everyone can be that, and we cant think that, because that will just separate us from real problems. And this problem just keep people separated from each other and easier to control... I think this is just another game of wealthy people, who like to control people. And it is easier to control 50% people with some ideology and then another half with other ideology. But I guess people aren't ready for that just yet. But remember this is just my opinion and I could be one of those 1% or you could be that.
And maybe that is only solution for peace in long run, I get their ideas and kinda like it, but it is too harsh.

There aren't too little of them, CIA upped their game recently and started hiring people who speak Ukrainian, and they started hiring them for cheap seeing as they aren't really in it for money.
There are still people with a little bit of common fucking sense, but their voices are barely heard with all the Nazism radiating from west Ukraine.

Explain to me how exactly how Ukrainians can be Nazis? Last I checked they were of a Slavic descent and not Germanic nor Aryan. The whole point of the National Socialist movement was to proclaim the superiority of the Aryan race and to get revenge for what they felt was an unjust punishment for the Treaty of Versailles.
Are you absolutely sure that you mean Nazi and not Fascist? And if you do mean Fascist, you need to learn what Fascism is also. Fascism is where a country is controlled through a single authoritarian governmental structure (usually a dictator) that enforces its rule through means of military force.
Also, why would the CIA ever be concerned with Ukraine? That is not a place of any sort of strategic significance to the U.S. The Eromaidan movement came from the Ukrainians due to the corruption and crimes of their former prime-minister..not because the big-bad-boogieman CIA agents were trying to pull a fast one over on good ol' Putin. Why don't you practice what you preach, use some common sense, and do some actual research on the topic?

    • @deaansugee
      @deaansugee 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The Leo Let's start from the top.
Karl Marx invented Marxism, out of which communism originated. Does that mean you *have to be* German in order to be a communist? No, i believe it does not.
Next class, we have the "What are the US interests in Ukraine".
Well, first off kids, you have to drill into your skulls that a major factor in all this is a war of prestige, something that the USA lives on, something the USA cannot live without.
If the US does not prove itself superior to Russia in this situation, they will lose prestige, and their smaller allies (allies on which the other rich countries of the western alliances survive on) will lose trust in their bigger partners, resulting in them searching for new big brothers. And who would that be, you ask kids? Well of course, the rival the west completely despises, Russia and China, and their little ship called BRICS.
Don't be naive, that "Why would the west want Ukraine?" argument is a comment I have seen at least 20 times in VICE comment section, so let me ask you, if that was such an effective point, don't you think I would be proven wrong so far and quit what I am doing? Didn't really think that one through, did you. Well, you're new to all this so I'll let this one slide, but think through your comments from now on.

    • @Pidgeon182
      @Pidgeon182 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dejan Andric
Communism is not Nazism..two completely different governmental structures. Nazism was actually derived form a French idea of National Syndicalism but was later adapted to Nazism by Adolph Hitler when he was in prison after WWI. Communism was based on Marx, but was created by Lenin (which is why you see so many Lenin statues all over Russia and former republics of the USSR instead of Karl Marx). Both have a history of Fascism, but that is pretty much where the similarities end.
Also, the U.S. doesn't really give two shits about "proving itself superior to Russia" at all. That is a very childish way to look at a very complex political situation. This isn't the Cold War anymore, Comrade. That ended when the USSR split up and accepted Democracy and Capitalism. Do some research about this. The reason the U.S. is getting pissed about this is because humanitarian groups and the EU are putting pressure on U.S. politicians to do something about it. Plus, Russia is breaking a political treaty that the U.S., Russia, and Ukraine signed back in the 90's that stated that Russia would not try and annex any part of Ukraine's territory as long as Ukraine would dispose of their Nuclear arsenal. It is called the Trilateral Statement, look it up.
Also, I don't follow your every comment to see what other people have said to you or not. The point still remains. Ukraine has little to no strategic relevance to the U.S. If it did, believe me, we would have soldiers in there so quick it would make your head spin. Kind of like what happened when North Korea tried to invade South Korea.

Look at it this way. If you really cared about what the people wanted you'd support elections. If you thought the elections were in some way 'rigged' you'd still let people vote but help supervise them and encourage the UN to over see them.
The only people who would want to disrupt/prevent the elections (eg. DPR), are people who don't care what the people want and fear the people wouldn't vote in favour of their personal gain.
This is not taking sides, this is purely logic.
