everyone pointing out that its the same chords as "pillar of salt" - this song comes right after it on the album. It's intentional: it's sort of like a part-two of that song.
Also who cares? The Ramones did that shit all the time and I don't see anyone complain about it. They did so to a greater extent by even using the chord progressions that serve more as riffs in more than one song. I know the Teenage Lobotomy riff is in another of their songs but can't recall the title. Also chord progressions are constantly reused as there aren't a whole lot of them that work to choose from. You can find compilations of multiple songs using the same progression. The I-V-vi-IV (1, 5, 6, 4) progression alone has thousands of examples.
My very favorite Thermals song. I get chills when it gets to that second little guitar interlude every time. I think this is a better song than A Pillar of Salt anyway.
I regret leaving my soul I forgot I needed it, to feel Maybe when I die I'll just grab it real quick I'm coming right back I regret leaving my mind I forgot I needed it, to think And maybe to keep me alive Can't believe I got so far with a head so empty But I still have eyes Wait for me Wait for me But I still have feet Wait for me Wait for me I regret leaving it all I forgot I needed God, like a big brother And maybe when I die Yeah when I die I will die escaping I will die returning to the fold But I still have eyes Wait for me Wait for me But I still have feet Wait for me Wait for me But I still have faith If I ever had faith Wait for me Wait for me
While a lot of songs on The Body, the Blood, and the Machine use the same chords, they are all very different songs because *every other part of the song is different*, and creates a vastly different character. The lyrics are fantastic, the vocal lines addictive, and the album as a whole is phenomenal. Neil Young has often use the same chord progressions, and he is still a great artist.
This video captures the fun of The Thermals. For a while I went to a lot of their shows in Portland and they were always a blast & a half. I miss them.
Totally did them an injustice and didn't check them out before the Matt & Kim show! These guys are awesome! This might be the new theme song to my life!!
"I can't believe I got so far with a head so empty." The older I get, the truer it becomes. I heard this song when I was in college. I'm 40 now, never finished that degree. Got a job in middle management. I got to go back to the fold.
Its a concept album. these two songs are paralell. one side (pillar of salt) is fleeing. the other (returning to the fold) is coming back. Thats why these tracks are next to each other on the album. Thats why they have the same chords
true, it's exactly the same chords....they use the same kind of pregressions for a lot of songs, a lot of c# > g# > f# > e. you can say what you want though, they sound really really awesome, and it's amazing how they can make them sound different. i love the thermals!
A lot of people have the notion that if it isn't serious, it isn't good. Fun is what it is, & when we spend all our time listening to Radiohead & Nirvana, listening to bands like The Thermals should become a necessarily common practice. They don't take themselves seriously but make interesting music! Which, in my opinion, can never ever be wrong!!
@flamingcurent Yep pretty dang sure. They used this song in one the episodes... Chuck Season 2 Episode 1 - Chuck Vs. The First Date. Pretty sure it's that one. Such a great show!
it's great that they have fun in their videos i think. they're low budget things you just would wanna do with your friends, you know? not people standing in front of their houses showing their cars....they're more like real life. if i ever got to making a video i would do exactly the same, just piss about .
everyone pointing out that its the same chords as "pillar of salt" - this song comes right after it on the album. It's intentional: it's sort of like a part-two of that song.
All the songs have interludes
Seriously tho
Also who cares? The Ramones did that shit all the time and I don't see anyone complain about it. Here's your future?! Literally anthything from that album is better.
14 years later and i disagree, they're very similar but i'm more attracted to the consistency and even choice of vocals from a pillar of salt
This song is the reason I lost the majority of the hearing in my left ear. It was worth it. Long live the Thermals!
Another scar my bless you brother
Man I remember high school being a skater back then all the skaters listened to this when it first came out it was THE BEST
Ikr! I listen to it playing basketball, their music pumps me up!
I skate to this song too and a lot of their other songs its the best thing ever man
It still holds strong I skate to this song
Yep, I remember being in high school and all the skaters and hipster types were listening to this. Loved it
I regret leaving my soul
I forgot I needed it, to feel
Maybe when I die
I'll just grab it real quick
I'm coming right back
I regret leaving my mind
I forgot I needed it, to think
And maybe to keep me alive
Can't believe I got so far with a head so empty
But I still have eyes
Wait for me
Wait for me
But I still have feet
Wait for me
Wait for me
I regret leaving it all
I forgot I needed God, like a big brother
And maybe when I die
Yeah when I die
I will die escaping
I will die returning to the fold
But I still have eyes
Wait for me
Wait for me
But I still have feet
Wait for me
Wait for me
But I still have faith
If I ever had faith
Wait for me
Wait for me
Incredible lyrics, incredible music
@nocontextwhatever great time of year for this song. Thanks for the reminder!
Great lyircs.
RIP Thermals. this was the first song I ever heard by you guys. Seen you twice (Boston and Denver). you guys were awesome.
The lead guitarist reminds me of the guy from blues clues
he left the show to start this band
i was thinking the same thing
I know they are long lost twins or something lol
He reminds me of a genius. But what do i know.
How is this band not more popular?
How did I miss this band? So damn good
They were extremely underrated in their day
While a lot of songs on The Body, the Blood, and the Machine use the same chords, they are all very different songs because *every other part of the song is different*, and creates a vastly different character. The world didn't deserve The Thermals! Man, they were so good. I luckily snagged a vinyl of Personal Life just recently
I love that he preaches his lyrics
These guys always look like they're having the best time in their music videos :P it brings me so much joy
Their live shows are very high energy
This video captures the fun of The Thermals. For a while I went to a lot of their shows in Portland and they were always a blast & a half. I miss them.
I have to thank the TV show 'Chuck' for introducing me to this great band!
Saw them open for Weezer a while back. Mind. Was. Blown.
i love the effect at the beginning with them falling from the sky. so simple and goooooood.
This almost gives me tears of joy. almost.
I love this band so much! Thank you for all the help with your music through out all the years.
There's this boy. He showed me this. I fell in love. He's my best friend now.
Is he still in the friend zone?
Most underrated band
CHUCK SEASON 2 EPISODE 1
Along with Oasis, don't look back in anger. Jill and Brice Larkin
Thank you Thermals 🙏🏾
I don't know how I got so far with a head so empty...
Bam ! I can't stop listening to this song and watching the video, it's addictive. Send me to rehab, already
Totally did them an injustice and didn't check them out before the Matt & Kim show! These guys are awesome! This might be the new theme song to my life!!
that sounds like the perfect tour . . . Weezer and The Thermals have so many similar qualities
What a happy song! What a fun, playful band!

"I can't believe I got so far with a head so empty." The older I get, the truer it becomes. I heard this song when I was in college. I'm 40 now, never finished that degree. Got a job in middle management. I got to go back to the fold.
I love this band. That cd is awesome!
I saw these guys open for Matt Kim last weekend in Oakland. They were great! The lead singer makes the funniest faces when he plays guitar!!!
And it’s been 12 years and people with no lives are still fucking here
It's all 'bout our beloved Chuck ;)
Its a concept album. these two songs are paralell. one side (pillar of salt) is fleeing. the other (returning to the fold) is coming back. Thats why these tracks are next to each other on the album. Thats why they have the same chords
the big guy on :56 makes the video. Goog job feeling that song man. Who ever you are.
I think i'll listen to it again...
they kick ass
Awesome. I saw The Thermals open for Cursive in MN and it was one of the best shows I've ever seen.
thirteen years later and this riff lives rent free in my brain
so true! this album is so good.
Their videos are so crazy and I LOVE IT!!!
they look like they would be fun to chill with
Completely. Thanks for that.
These guys should come to Japan. There's a lot of little venues right around where I live where they'd fit in.
true, it's exactly the same chords....they use the same kind of pregressions for a lot of songs, a lot of c# > g# > f# > e. you can say what you want though, they sound really really awesome, and it's amazing how they can make them sound different. i love the thermals!
thumbnail reminds me of Abed from community's impression of Nick Cage
The thumbnail reminds me of Fogle from Superbad when he says that he’s McLovin.
Love 'em
Sweet, its like a time machine back to the 90's!!
Which is cool because I was too young then to listen to music.
Chuck!!!
Chuck is the best!!! And the guy that creates the soundtrack of the show is really good...
We still believe in the Thermals.
some guy saying pillar of salt sounds like most of their songs brought me here
SAME
same
porno is bad for your soul
Tim Climie making porno or watching porno?
probably both. what's the distinction? (I ask in all earnestness)
"I forgot I needed God...like a big brother"
Genius!!!!!
i love how they put so much random humor in their videos
A lot of people have the notion that if it isn't serious, it isn't good.
Fun is what it is, & when we spend all our time listening to Radiohead & Nirvana, listening to bands like The Thermals should become a necessarily common practice. They don't take themselves seriously but make interesting music! Which, in my opinion, can never ever be wrong!!
It's amazing how on every song that has featured in an episode of Chuck, 'Chuck' is always the top comment :D
saw them last night with matt & kim! soooo goood! (:
Wow this is like the greatest video ever, they seem so enthused
its the same chord progression as pillars of salt but its still original and amazing
Reminds me of how Bad Religion will make up a good riff then use it again a few albums later lol
thats because it comes after pillar of salt in the album.
@@ckopen7192 oh sick
a true work of art
These guys simply rock and Chuck is a legend :)
@CAM BRIDGES The best TV show you've never heard of. Amazon Prime.
YAY!!!!!!! thats mt. tabor in the beginning and the ross island bridge behind them mid way through

have to agree with you there
He has a a sick voice
it's great that they have fun in their videos i think. they're low budget things you just would wanna do with your friends, you know? not people standing in front of their houses showing their cars....they're more like real life. if i ever got to making a video i would do exactly the same, just piss about .

I Forgot I needed him like a big brother

@lucadepu It's one of the Thermal's trademarks that they almost always use the same three or four chords.
