Shaneolian really low.. look up the side effects of Ativan before making a low unintelligent remark. He also created music that helped many people through their shit lives. He gained all he had by his unique talent, coming from nothing. So fuck right off thinking he offed himself out of being ungrateful. It's people like you that make our world shit.

There was a flavor of freedom in that era that I don't expect to experience again in this lifetime. These were the very last days of American culture free from mobile phones, the internet, and vocoders.
@@mr.malapropismus1220 When Autotune was first audibly used („Believe“ by Cher) the producers claimed it was Vocoder. Only years later did it become known what autotune was, so if you are born in the late 70s/early 80s one might still think that the Autotune-Effect = Vocoder.
+killerDIRK1 Just listened to Bohemian Rhapsody, and ya Chris Cornell and Eddie Vedder are still two of the best vocalists ever. Oh and Robert Plant > Freddie Mercury
Chris cornell, Kurt cobain, Scott weiland, Layney Staley, Andrew Wood, etc... All saddly gone!...Eddie you're the last of their kind!. Keep the torch of GRUNGE alive!!!
Eddie Vedder just happened to be in the studio when Chris Cornell was recording this song and struggled w the low parts so Eddie picked up the mic and Chris made it a duet. Was when pearl jam was first forming.
Goosebumps EVERY TIME. One of the greatest songs ever written and performed in rock music history. Thank you, Temple of the Dog for this absolute masterpiece!
Yeah a song about baby farming ? Buddy wake up this is literally what John the god was charged for in Brazil with Oprah and Maria as his friends ( Maria the spirit cooker )
Downfall of metal grunge categorizing music but it's all the same it's about the feeling the power of the riffs emotion and posers that weren't ready to do it but duplication and replication two words that this generation will never understand

I'm 66. Big Chris Cornell fan. First time I heard this song. Fantastic vocals from Cornell and Vedder. Both are great but Cornell is just a bit better. RIP Mr. Cornell.
I know his pain I’ve fought suicidal thoughts since I was in the military carrying an m-16 and was told my grandma died and my my was being committed for mental health reasons and I was stuck in my unit and felt totally helpless! It took another 10 years of several attempts that I finally broke down to a guy at an AA meeting and he took me under his wing! It’s still an uphill battle at times but I think of all the cool stuff I would have missed out on! Ever since I heard what happened to Chris I can’t help but wish he too would have reached out for help cause sometimes we suffer silently and people around us have no idea the voices or voice saying just do it ! It’ll stop the pain and it’ll make that voice go away and you’ll be in a better place! But now I have new voices saying maybe it’ll make things way way worse! Maybe you will survive and you’ll know a new level of pain that made the old pain seem tolerable or maybe you will die and go to a place you wish you weren’t and you’ll never escape! But either way I like life more than death at my own hand! I just wish that Chris was still here cause he was and is special!
Yep. 116 million views....wow. yep. I remember Monday night football halftime we switched to mtv....saw Eddie for the first time in this video....I said to my pals this was the greatest thing I'd ever seen..
When I got the news about Chris, this is the first place i came. One of the best songs ever made. It changed my life! Chris' voice came along when i needed it and has never failed me. I wish to send his fans and loved ones MY love. You will be missed, Chris.
I came here to cry. Scott, Kurt, Lanye? It sucked but didn't sting like this. Chris was supposed to be the one to carry the torch. Fuck I haven't wept this hard since my mother died.
I'm mourning too. (And I'm ignoring the annoying Jesus freak.) Just listened to Say Hello To Heaven with tears streaming down my face. Chris was the one who'd survived, who'd gotten clean and was going to grow old. This was not supposed to happen. I'm having flashbacks to when I was 16, and I heard the news about Kurt Cobain.
I was 20 in 1975. Rock was just starting to go downhill then. 1980s were awful. Then about 1991 we got all these great Seattle grunge bands and everything changed. When this genre died out before 2000, there has been no such thing as Rock 'n' Roll.
been crying for a solid 20 mins now. listened to his music since i was a young boy 20+ years ago. Never have felt so much emotion over a lost musician in my life before.
I once read that Eddie Vedder, since he had no previous experience with videos etc, was super uncomfortable on the set and hated the lip synch. So they told him to "just stand in the grass and look straight". And he did hahaha..
I was there about 15 years ago when my brother graduated from UW, walking the trails with him, my parents, and my brother's wife. Took me about 30 minutes to realize where I was and then I felt overwhelmed.
or a great song to make us realize we are a fuckin greedy society that wont survive as a species until we realize survival and riches are 2 different things.
I was born in 1976. I say this all the time, but what a time to grow up in music. I graduated high school in 1994 and these guys were on the soundtrack of my youth. So many others… we’ve lost so many and it hurts me.
There was definitely an aspect of tortured souls syndrome with a lot of these important artist. Swept through that generation like the plague. My brother was caught up in that undertow and died of an overdose. Very spiritual, demonic if you ask me. That music cost them something. You dig too deep and realize it's your own grave.
Now that would be a great day and even those Chris Cornell sadly passed away it would have been great if i had seen hem in person and if i saw hem in person it would make my day because chris Cornell is bye far the greatest guy in my book's because of all of the the cool things he can do and wish he was still alive so i could go on the stage and tell hem how much of a fan I'm to he's cool alternative heavy metal music
Layne, Kurt, Scott and Chris, we miss you singing on behalf of our generation. Thank you for expressing our angst, our sadness, our disdain, our pain, etc. But you also sang about unity, hope, humility, respect, etc. Thank you.
Andrew Wood... One of the Patriarch of Grunge for sure Temple of the Dog is here cause of him (he created these words that Chris later named the group) Sad he didn't live longer Eddie and Chris is great but Andy and Chris singing together would be phenomenal

Fabrizio Chiapelli Hey dude, you can listening Pearl Jam and Foo Fighters if you want to nostalgia with grunge and rock music from the Seattle Area figures.
This was my highschool. My mom died when I was a junior and this music. The 90s grunge saved me. Soundgarden, Pearl jam, Nirvana, NIN etc. I was super close with my brother. He passed away in June at 39. I'm drawn back to the music that saved me before hoping like hell it still has the same magic cause baby.... I'm barely hanging on. I understand why some people don't make it 💔
That's tough.I dont want to sound too dramatic but oh well.....youv'e come to far and your family would want you to be strong because better days are ahead. They will always be with you in spirit.
My heart breaks today. We've lost one of the last fathers of grunge, not to mention a man who was beyond talented . Chris, you brought us so much wonderful music and lyrics in your short 52 years and helped to form a style of music and way of life that I hope never dies. You've inspired so many and will be missed eternally. No one sings like you anymore. Go forth and say hello to heaven, beautiful soul x
I'd love to agree with you 100%...BUT...he was not one of the last fathers of "grundge"!..."grundge" was an invention of the media to rename the punkrock style of nothern america!...Chris Cornell was a titan of Rock an Roll!
i didn't know there was even competition...this is hands down the best song of all time, 2 of the best vocalist in rock on one track and the song was made before they blew up. Anyone who says this isn't the best song of all time should be shunned from rock.
Masterpiece. Both of them are perfect on this. Thankful Chris asked Eddie to be a part of Temple Of The Dog it made for one of the best songs I’ve ever heard to this day.
This doesn't even strike me as a rock song. When you get older and you learn that all these songs you heard on Lite FM are rock songs (aside from the obvious ones like Linkin Park or Nickelback), and knowing rock it makes perfect sense for many of them, especially since you became aware that post-grubge exists. However, this song, all the way until the last part where there's actual noticable guitar for the first time, and I think maybe they didn't even play that part, or maybe there was a "radio version" which isn't on TH-cam because who would seek it out in purpose if that's the difference. This song even after being older then 20 and knowing all this, it does not sound like a rock song at all, it sounds like it belongs right there on Lite FM in some extremely conservative city where tht stations has completely banned all rock and metal bands at all period because they said they word "fuck" in a different song or something. Instead of Metallica, Pearl Jam, Nickelback, or post-grunge in general, this song sounds like it belongs right there with non-rock non-"pretty" (Mariah Celine etc.) LiteFM songs. Matchbox 20, Maroon 5, something like that. Even RHCP or Green Day wouldn't fit in with this song.
I remember my mother playing this in the car when I was in booster seats. I was born in '97 and she was only 20. This touches a really special part of my brain that I don't even remember anymore.
As a father at 19, son was born in 1998 I appreciate this comment! This was always a treasure of a song from my short lived youth. He is now almost 26 and I get to work and see him every day. Blessed! By the way I raised him on this music 😂
I hear you. My oldest brother would play this on repeat and I would sit outside his door thinking he was the coolest... He was really a dick, but we're tight now..
RIP Chris Cornell. 4 years gone, today.😪 your voice defined the struggles of my life, thru temple of a dog, soundgarden, and especially Audioslave. I am clean now these 8 years, and feel your loss in my soul.
Guys, this is all a gross over generalization. There's so much music being made today by so many types of people and a lot of it is good. Just because all you know about is the stuff that's popular doesn't mean every contemporary musician or band is bad or somehow less than these older bands. Sometimes you just have to spend a little time looking for it.
My younger brother committed suicide last weekend by overdosing on something. He was found with headphones on, presumably listening to something. This is his youtube account. He made a playlist containing 6 songs that was edited the day he passed. This is one of the 6 songs. With the method he used, he was dead after about 30 minutes, probably unconscious around 12 minutes. I like to think that it was peaceful for him with his music on. I love you Myles, I'll miss you everyday for the rest of my life.
Horrific Fried Donut,I am so sorry for your loss.I lost a friend to suicice and it is a horrible thing.May your brother rest in peace, and I hope you can hold onto all the good memories you had.I am sending you a virtual hug.
@ Horrific Fried Donut~ I am so sorry for your loss, oohhh my goodness must be tragic for you and your family and friends, one good thing you mentioned, he had his headphones on listening to this beautiful music hopefully he went peaceful. I hope I did not say anything wrong, I met from the heart, 💜 RIP your younger brother.
Sean Seagraves Right???? his cover of Nothing Compares 2U came on Sirius/XM Radio the other day and I seriously had to pull over it was that breathtaking and yes every hair on my arms was standing up!
I was lucky to be 18 in 1990 and walked straight into this "genre". The funny thing looking at it now its that these guys really were incredible musicians, not just the singers, the band too. Not only that, they stood the test of time so very well. It wasn't a "fad" and some of them still release work today.....sadly we lost what I call the voice of a generation in Chris. Thank god for those who are left still releasing music, like Mark Lanegan, Eddie Vedder and Thurston Moore. Thanks for painting memories every time I hear you sing guys.
wow you were so lucky to be that age. PERFECT AGE for the year and time of music. I talked to a random guy once in his 50's and he had interesting stories of seeing nirvana before they were famous and I loved being taken back there by his memory recollection even though I was 9 in 1990 but luckily my brother played music like this all the time and we always watch mtv headbangers ball. Back when music ruled the earth, man. PEACE
87 to like 94 was like music magic. totally different sound , kurt cobain and these guys just came like reapers cut down all the hair bands in one sweeping motion. i was 18 when i first heard nirvana and i was 20 when this album came out , i was doing artwork for a garage band and we were all living together in jersey.
One of the greatest songs ever made. The passion and range in their voices are incredible. I don't know how people can listen to auto-tuned processed pop music/top 40 when there's music like this out here.
Never met a Chris Cornell song I haven't loved. Many have passed. I hate that. So I'm thinking what band do I want to see this summer. Someone give me hints because almost all my favs have passed
@@ratman9548 u seem like a cool ass dude rat man, hope all is well for you! id recommend seeing Megadeth if your into that, they still put on a fantastic concert
Preach, brother. The lack of pure talent in today's pop culture is astounding. At least there are a few examples of lyrics and voices with range of passion such at this one: th-cam.com/video/ZmDBbnmKpqQ/w-d-xo.html
This song is getting more and more relevant everyday. This world doesn’t suck, but it’s leaders and alot of people in it do. We can all make a change. Remember, “they” need us way more than we need them.
Very right, you are @eternaladventure-wm. I have been saying the exact same thing for over 50 years now. And the same result is today as it was back then, people just don't want to get it anymore. And I blame the government for it all. Good example is social media, what is social media? Well it is not controlled by the citizens, although we would like to think so. Social media is controlled by the government. Social, socially, socialize, social reform, socialize medicine, socialism it is one of the same, people have to learn to strap on a pair of brass ones and take the bull bu the hornes and bury its head in the dirt! Because there are more followers than there are leaders. Tell me what you think
Probably more relevant now in 2023 than when it was first released, kinda sad that we as humans, as a country learn absolutely nothing and keep repeating the same mistakes.
was relevant when it came out. I made it from New Jersey to Seattle that year. Aside from associations. Back then it was either Faster Pussycat and hairspray bands like that or as they called it "boring" Seattle. It was enchanting.
The story around this album is so cool. This song was recorded even before Pearl Jam's debut was released. Nobody knew who Eddie Vedder was when this album came out. Then, a year later both Soundgarden and Pearl Jam are getting huge but this album is forgotten, and the record company was like, holy crap, we made a supergroup album with members of Soundgarden and Pearl Jam before any of them were super. So they rereleased the album with Hunger Strike as the lead single and it goes platinum. And everyone's like And just to agree with everyone else: yes, music today is shit by comparison.
Years ago I did some work as a temp "roadie", (for lack of a better word), we worked a Pearl Jam show at the Orpheum theater in Boston, it's a very small venue, it was just before Pearl Jam skyrocketed. After the show while they were stuffing their faces with pizza that was delivered, we took their 4 Mountain bikes out of the big box truck, and loaded up all their equipment, I put the last amp in the truck, I turned around and Eddie Vedder and the other 3 were standing there, they thanked us and told us they appreciated us loading their truck for them, then they all jumped on their mountain bikes and took off to explore Boston! We thought that was a pretty cool thing to do after putting on a concert, there probably wasn't many people if any that even recognized them that night! Great memories, they were very nice. I like to think I had a little something to do with their great success! Lol 😂
That’s not the story. Eddie was a replacement when Andy wood passed. “Mother love bone” became “Pearl Jam” as far as I know. I think Eddie might have lived with chris when Eddie came to town but not sure.
One of my favorite songs of the 90's. Everything about it -- Eddie and Chris's amazing voices, the music, the lyrics, everything is perfection. So sad watching it today. RIP Chris.

Shaneolian really low.. look up the side effects of Ativan before making a low unintelligent remark. He also created music that helped many people through their shit lives. He gained all he had by his unique talent, coming from nothing. So fuck right off thinking he offed himself out of being ungrateful. It's people like you that make our world shit.
gman I totally agree! That drug in my opinion put him in his grave😭😭😭He took too many😭😭Rest In Peace Chris😥you were a troubled man but you sang your heart out!
Shaneolian why don't you follow in his footsteps and do the same

There was a flavor of freedom in that era that I don't expect to experience again in this lifetime. These were the very last days of American culture free from mobile phones, the internet, and vocoders.
Yes I feel you ❤
@Elsa
Now that is a beautiful comment, drenched in wisdom. Love to you friend, from Canada.
Vocoder? LOL

RIP Chris. Some of the best 90s/2000s grunge came right from this man!
Crazy how this is a duet between two of the best voices on grunge, this is exceptionally beautiful. What a masterpiece, so grateful to listen to this.
This was done before the fact and released after they gained popularity.
they are just a friends
Exactly!
I think that this is a Great Moment in (Musical) History! :)
Eddie Vedder just happened to be in the studio when Chris Cornell was recording this song and struggled w the low parts so Eddie picked up the mic and Chris made it a duet. Was when pearl jam was first forming.
This song is amazing but 2 me the 2 best grunge singers are Layne Staley and Kurt Cobain.

what a voice. may he rest.

I was 20 in 1991. One of the best years in music.❤❤❤
I was 20 in 1975. Rock was just starting to go downhill then. 1980s were awful. Then about 1991 we got all these great Seattle grunge bands and everything changed. When this genre died out before 2000, there has been no such thing as Rock 'n' Roll.

There was definitely an aspect of tortured souls syndrome with a lot of these important artist. Swept through that generation like the plague. The 2 greatest rock voices together on a badass song!!!! Not sure if they won any awards for this song. But they should of won everything possible
Same, one of my favorite songs ever

Guys, this is all a gross over generalization. There's so much music being made today by so many types of people and a lot of it is good. Just because all you know about is the stuff that's popular doesn't mean every contemporary musician or band is bad or somehow less than these older bands. Sometimes you just have to spend a little time looking for it.
+Vintersemestre00
you're right, there is good music. the point is that good radio is basically dead. sad. all radio is basically contrived garbage.

I want a candle that smells how Eddies voice sounds in this song...
I've heard a lot of crazy s*** but that is the best
I'd like to think itd smell like the best apple pie or aloe Vera mixed with desert cactus. Refreshing as fuck.
LOL
@@TheNavypenguin unless he is singing yellow ledbetter, that smells like hot buttered popcorn!
@@thorburke7030 fuck yeah man \m/ like that fresh buttered popcorn smell as soon as its done. Can still hear it sizzling.
Eddie and Chris singing together is so good. This song is beautiful
Preach
Probably more relevant now in 2023 than when it was first released, kinda sad that we as humans, as a country learn absolutely nothing and keep repeating the same mistakes.
was relevant when it came out. I made it from New Jersey to Seattle that year. Aside from associations. Back then it was either Faster Pussycat and hairspray bands like that or as they called it "boring" Seattle. It was enchanting.
Amen 🙏
The story around this album is so cool. This song was recorded even before Pearl Jam's debut was released. Nobody knew who Eddie Vedder was when this album came out. Then, a year later both Soundgarden and Pearl Jam are getting huge but this album is forgotten, and the record company was like, holy crap, we made a supergroup album with members of Soundgarden and Pearl Jam before any of them were super. So they rereleased the album with Hunger Strike as the lead single and it goes platinum. And everyone's like
And just to agree with everyone else: yes, music today is shit by comparison.
Lol 😂
@skylark thank you for sharing - what a cool thing to experience
That’s not the story. Eddie was a replacement when Andy wood passed. “Mother love bone” became “Pearl Jam” as far as I know. I think Eddie might have lived with chris when Eddie came to town but not sure.
So “temple of the dog” was a mash up of the mother love bone guys, Cornell, and Eddie
@@skylark4901 so basically a shot comparison god🤦♂️
One of my favorite songs of the 90's. Everything about it -- Eddie and Chris's amazing voices, the music, the lyrics, everything is perfection. So sad watching it today. RIP Chris.
As part of my Opera training,
I sing both parts changing the Octave.
RIP Chris Cornell, Thanks for the best music
of our Generation. I am so Glad I got to
see you live when I was 25 years old.
It's been almost a month since Chris died, but I still cry every time I listen to this song. Fuck, I still can't believe he's gone forever.

"WOW" CAN WE JUST TRAVEL BACK IN TIME TO THE 90S!!! IM 47YO IN 2024, AND STILL LOVE MUSIC WITH MEANING!!!
hear you loud and clear. 49 and missing the good old 90s ...
64 and I love it !!!
I’m 58 and wish the same. Nothing will ever compare to the music of those sweet days.
Facts bro. I just turned 46 and will never stop listening to 90s.
I'am only 32 the older rock music will always be the best compared to now a days.
I always forget these, until I hear them again and then I'm down the rabbit hole to the music that made me who I am.
You’re down in a hole and you don’t know if you can be saved
