You can tell Miami had the foundation to be back, but they were not quite there yet, UCLA receivers were wide open all day. I sat in the OB shocked at how wide open their guys were. Two seasons later, Miami was legit #1, regardless of the BCS.
As a die hard canes fan this is my favorite game of all time in my personal opinion greatest hurricanes game of all time with 2 ranked ucla bruins 1998
Well UCLA did enough to screw themselves as well, when your defense allows a historic rushing performance all the while having a 10 point 4th quarter lead takes the burden off of the referees
But their defense could not stop Miami or score again. They let Miami march down the field and score the winning TD. They did not have to play this game to go to the tittle game. This game was canceled because of a hurricane. They thought this was going to be an easy win for them.
@@tdrewman I think definitely K-State and maybe OSU were better than UCLA. But any of them would've been better than FSU with its like 3rd string QB. And lol of that too 5 only OSU is still good now
@@TheJasonJackson84 ...in all fairness, UCLA put over 40 points up on the road in the Eastern time zone in December......that's pretty darn impressive...but the refs really did screw them in this game..

@@AaronStark1993 UCLA was first in line to make the National Championship game. Beating Miami would have been the last catapult to put them against Tennessee and by default, 2nd Place Arizona would go to the Rose Bowl. Arizona fans were watching intently because Arizona finished 11-1.
The terrible call by the official which gave the ball back to Miami with a chance to take the lead was the reason UCLA lost the game. They overcame the fumble and put themselves in a position to put the game away only to have it taken away from them

I was 14 or 15 rooting hard. James rushed for 299 yards. I think UCLA's star LB got hurt.
I was heavily invested in this game as a Kansas State fan. Sadly, they wouldn't hold up to their own end of the bargain later that night.
I was rooting for k state that year too. Cfb can be heartbreaking. Even as a Canes fan

There was terrible calls or no calls both ways. The no call holding on a touchdown pass early in the game for one

This was a non conference game. UCLA already had the Rose Bowl clinched whether they won or lost.
