Miami's LB play was phenominal in this game. Every run that looks like it could break for 8-10 yards, a single LB makes the stop to hold it to 2-3 yards.
And so very true. God I miss the old Miami Hurricanes SO much. They were the most thrilling team in any sport on earth. Thanks for the memories 80's and early 90's Canes, along with 2000-2003.
I remember David Klingler was gonna come down and put on a clinic show us how it’s done he was a good QB . But things don’t go the way they’re supposed to in the orange bowl especially at night .🙌🏼GO CANES!
Back then just scoring a TD against the Canes in the Orange Bowl was a moral victory for teams. Sad how things have changed SO much since the Canes and Dolphins left he Orange Bowl for that POS soccer stadium they play in now.
Miami opened an industrial sized can of whip-ass on Houston. Miami played angry because of all the hype around Houston's offense. Many a team's dreams were crushed in the OB. I loved that place when the crowd was hyped..could not even hear myself scream it was so loud.
One of the most damaging defeats that I've seen any program take - really exposed the Houston juggernaut. It proved that they didn't have great athletes - they racked up numbers and points using a system that wasn't familiar to defenses at the time. Miami proved they could be stopped just like any other offense if you prepared for them right and/or had more talented athletes than them.
I was in the Army stationed in South Korea at the time. A lot of the guys stationed in my unit were from Texas. Let's just say I made a lot of money that day.
In the words of Negan "We shut that shit down" the night that the Run n Shoot became the Chuck n Duck offense. By the way whatever happened to John Jenkis😉?
Let's really look at this? 1) Miami had two weeks to prepare for this offense. 2) John Jenkins was a complete bonehead with his play calling. Mouse Davis would've picked Miami apart. 3) Their o-line lost a lot guys do to graduation. 4) This same Miami team lost to a BYU with lesser talent this same year.
@@connarcowanakacliffordoneo9095 When the CFL had their experiment for having teams in the USA, Jack Pardee was the Head Coach of our Birmingham team, the Barracudas, and Jenkins was the offensive coordinator.
Well at least Miami has the video tape to prove that they were once Invincible. It's an absolute astonishing fact of college football for teams to be great for many years and then drop off the face of the Earth. I still can't believe they haven't been relevant for at least 16 or 17 years now.
When Miami goes back to white QB's they'll be relevant again. Just the brutal, honest to God truth. They've tried the same shit with black QB's ever since Brock Berlin graduated in 2004 and haven't had a white QB since and have been a joke ever since. Not a coincidence one bit.
The landscape for the Canes is different now. As a private school not named Notre Dame Miami doesn't enjoy the money your Alabamas, Ohio States, and Clemsons (as public universities) receive. It doesn't have nearly the money Notre Dame has, which allows ND to afford the same quality of facilities the state schools do. That has contributed to a divide in recruiting. Without an on campus stadium, and with reliance on the Dolphins' home, students have a much greater distance to travel to get to games. Of course the loss of the Orange Bowl and its atmosphere has been a big twist of the knife in the Canes' side.
competition is much higher today, hard to get the best recruits, but we've had some very good teams. 2017 2020 and 2021 will be fantastic so it's not over.
John Jenkins and the run n shoot offense a big joke, a sham.....The Hurricanes administered a THOROUGH ass kicking.....The Cougars didnt have one player who would start for the powerful 'Canes
John Jenkins: “hey guys no taunting or arguing with the officials. Houston Cougars aren’t about that”....splices porn into game film the following week. Lol.
1991 Miami- IMHO, the most overrated national champion of all time. I mean, other than Warren Sapp and the future Rock, I can't name anyone on this team that went on to have a career.
You don't know shit about the Hurricanes. The linebackers alone played over 30yrs combined in the NFL.Lamar Thomas Kevin Williams Leon Searcy all had long careers. How about Ryan McNeil doo doo. Darryl Williams 10 year pro.So shut up and get da fuc outta here.
Chris Kreager what does that even “most overrated national champion”????? Who, where are they gettin pub and talked about?? Bottom line they won---“ANOTHER” national championship, end of story!! Houston has ZERO! Besides it’s a Cane thang you don’t understand!!
You don't know shit. This was a very good Miami FL. Football team. Just because they don't have players in the NFL that you know of, let's me know your so called knowledge of college football. Your not a true college football guru or fan. Mario Cristabol is now Oregon ducks head coach. Those LB's were nasty Darrin Smith, Jessie Armstead, & Michael Barrow. DL- Rusty Medearis & Kevin Patrick. DB's McNeil & Williams.

Miami should’ve kept the Orange Bowl. What a great stadium and atmosphere.
I remember the NY Times preview for that college season. It said "There are teams better than Miami. They play on Sundays."

All I remember was when Houston scored late in the game. They celebrated like they won the SWC championship. It was ridiculousness at its finest.
Back then just scoring a TD against the Canes in the Orange Bowl was a moral victory for teams. Sad how things have changed SO much since the Canes and Dolphins left he Orange Bowl for that POS soccer stadium they play in now.
They never recovered after this game. Started off a top 10 team, and I think they only won 3 more games after this.

Canes killed the run/shoot and the wishbone 😂
9/12/1991 - the night before the first Friday the 13th in over a year. (The previous one was 7/13/1990).
One of the loudest Hurricanes games that I've attended.
In that current toilet the Canes and Phins play (lose) in you will never hear that kind of noise. Worst decision ever to move out of the Orange Bowl.
Houston and Miami two city schools I wish they play more often
Yes the death of the run and shoot.
Zubaz sighting at 52:23 in the background, remember those pants?
The day the run and shoot died!!!
Sounds like an American Pie song!
26 is my old football coach
What's his name
The night David Klingler's Heisman Trophy's dreams were destroyed by a natural disaster , namely, a hurricane!
Yet the Bungles still believed he was the future of their franchise
I remember this game. It wasn't a real game. Miami spanked that ass. Houston meat a real defence.
What defense? Name one guy on this team that accomplished anything in the pr

Spent a lot of time in the CFL after leaving houston in 1993

IRON5 Miami lost to BYU in 1990 and this game was played in 1991. Thus, this was not the same team who lost to BYU.

37:43 - 37:48......”we’re screwed”!
I remember watching this game Miami tore the hell out of Houston, everybody thought Houston was gonna Run up the Score
THROWBACK MIAMI U FL FOOTBALL
Miami will come back. I believe in Manny Diaz

Chris Hayward .......Chris did he really do that?
The Frase yeah. It’s one of the accusations along with NCAA violations that got him fired. There’s articles mentioning it online.
And I thought that was just a good joke.
"No celebrating..." That sure set the tone.
Houston coach..."we're getting a lot of holding penalties, that's been neutralizing our drives..." so you're not able to hold and get away with it?
Miami showed qb Houston was sorry
