I understand that sponsorship is important for you and that you will have had to read the sponsor's script.
I would like to point out that a VPN does not improve your security or privacy, modern fingerprinting techniques make it irrelevant if you are on a vpn or not. The best that a VPN can provide is access to country specific web services and that is by no means guaranteed.

Stairs were highly defensive. But yeah... its not why they were built.
Seems like they had a tower... needed stairs. The most logical route up is a spiral. Most being wood.

As a middle school teacher, I can tell you that the kids watch a lot of dance and makeup content. In class. When they are supposed to be learning academic content. Videos that encourage kids to do dumb stuff and then post the video are also an issue. Yes, we actually had a kid destroy the soap dispenser in the restroom and post it online due to an online dare. I live in VA, but my nephew in AL also had seen the original dare videos. Thankfully, he is smarter and pointed out that posting a video to the world was a good way to get caught. Also, he was confused as to WHY one would destroy a soap dispenser in the first place.

Funnily enough I once heard a different explanation for spiral staircases:
Namely that a castle usually had a lord and knights underneath him and how he wouldn't want his daughter sleeping with any of his knights before marriage.
Thus the Spiral staircase was designed so that two people couldn't meet on the stairs and that if a knight was trying to get to his lord's daughter they'd be spotted.
Even the guide who told me this believed it was a Victorian myth and believed it was most likely the ergonomics of putting stairs in narrow towers.

The higher person doesn't necessarily have the advantage as if they overswing at the person below they run the risk of falling down the stairs. The person going up is less likely to fall. To be fair to the re-enactors, modern re-enactment weapons and armour are incredibly prone to rust. If you put a chainmail shirt on damp ground for as little as a few seconds, it will have a patina of rust which takes a lot of time and effort to remove. Same goes for steel swords etc. Most re-enactors spend a lot of time cleaning and polishing weapons after a show, especially if it's been raining or foggy. You can't cancel a show with hundreds of people in attendance because there's a light drizzle, despite all the extra work it will cause. I cringe every time I see someone drive or throw a sword into the ground. That sword has probably just been ruined

Chinese TikTok is called "douyin" and it's true that children are exposed to a very different kind of information. But it's not because of the app hireups, it's because of China heavily regulating the information that reaches not only children, but adults as well. (For example, recently all tv-shows and music bands that feature "feminine" male leads were removed from public platforms). The content for children goes under even more scrutiny.
School children are not allowed to have phones on them in schools (they have watches with a feature of calling one or two parental phone number). And online gaming is strictly regulated: children under 18 can play games only for a couple of hours per week.

I heard a lot about staircases and live in central Europe literally surrounded by castles, there are at least 4 just few miles away and several other structures with remaining castle parts. I heard about the direction of the stairs and started to look for it. In all castles here I have seen it was really to as described - attacker's right hand would be blocked. The only medieval (very, very late medieval) staircase that went the opposite direction I walked on was in a church tower, not a castle. You might not win back the castle, but you take each and every advantage you get. And each man matters.

My doc is impressed how I've helped to stave off my dementia by watchiing long form documentaries and theological studies that Seminary students take from DTBM who are a bit too Calvinist for me but mostly in agreement with my Bible based faith. They can be 2 or 3 hours. I"m sstill losing abilities but the doctor said I'm exceptionally bright so the deficits I notice are really only stressful to me, most folks don't even realize I have dementia unless i'm having foggy day or they see something I write. I really didn't like the idea of my attention span shrinking. I thank you and other creators like you who make thoughtful and educational content.

I have to admit that the story of the staircases made sense to me. Kinda like the access roads to castle were often placed in a way that your shield arm would face away from the castle.
When it comes to chain mail there's pretty much no (war) weapon that can go "through" the rings. The question is whether the attack can spring the ring(s) open. And that has a lot to do with both the weapon and the way the chain mail was made.

    • @juanzulu1318
      @juanzulu1318 ปีที่แล้ว +5

It still does make sense. I mean, it is a fact that the defending person is in a tactical advantage if the staircase is built as such. Whether some of the castle builders understood this, ignored it or just dont care is a different topic though

Little known fact: Like all parts of medieval castles, masons built spiral staircases from the top down, and from this descending perspective they turned counter-clockwise. That is because of the Coriolis effect on the semi-lunar canals (inner ears) of the masons. This theory is further supported by the reverse being documented in the medieval staircases built in the Southern Hemisphere ...in Australia (or more precisely, Chile).

If you really want an insight on the TikTok in China topic, The China Show (formerly ADVChina) offers some really good info coming from two guys that perfectly speak Chinese and have lived there for around 10years (SerpentZA and Laowhy86), they give some inside info that usually doesnt get to the western world due to the CCP's control over the population and Chinese internet. I think they have covered the difference in content between TikTok and Douyin at some point, though I dont remember wether it was on their shared channel or one of them individually. Either way their channels are a must if you are interested in any way in China.
