I'm 70% highway and would not have a vehicle without adaptive cruise control. I have the 2024 GT convertible which I like but I need to get off the highway more since I never keep the top down over 65.
The reason that the automatic version of the Mustang does not have the final drive ratio of the manual is that automatics have something called a stator which mutiplys the torque produced which would in a manual would be compensated of by a lower numeric gear ratio in the differential.
I took the manual in my 22 gt. Rowing the gears is way more fun and if another gt passes me, well the taillights look nice. As to possible differences in the engines I can speak from personal experience. My wife and got matching manual 98 V6s one time. They both felt really nice. Same trim level. The only difference was the exterior color. If I just drove mine, I never noticed any problems. If I drove hers the same day, hers felt just a bit better. Like the folks building it were in a better mood. We never raced because we never left at the same time so I don’t know if it was faster. Definite difference though.
Drag racing in the morning, you must have been watching me go to work, coffee in one hand, McMuffin in the other, blow drying my hair with the car vents, tying my tie, and driving with my knees
I would take the base model, add some aftermarket katzkin leather seats. Pick my own nice aftermarket wheels. Then pick my own suspension upgrade. I would much rather do that than have a stock premium car.
Reminds me of the RS days in the 80's, when you could get the 5.0 in a lighter package without all the air effects. If you're gonna go custom and upgrade the suspension anyway, there's no point in getting all that extra GT stuff.
Yeah the 10 automatic would be my choice. I have a 2018 f150 2.7 with the 10 speed automatic that is pretty good for a stock truck. It ran a 14.88@96 mph

How the hell is a Mustang GT premium the same price as a 302A F150 SuperCrew 4x4 XLT with a 5.0? Ford absolutely has so much more money producing that aluminum F150 than this steel S650 which is a barely changed at all S550
@@delbertmcfinklestein8576 Mustangs are mass produced cars and not low volume by any means. The S650 is not meaningfully different than the S550, and the S550 was based on the S197 which itself was based on the DEW98. Go look at the prices of a 2001 Mustang GT vs a 2001 Ford F150 SuperCrew 4x4. The F150 was ~30% more expensive which definitely is a better reflection of production costs. Since then F-Series has moved to all aluminum construction for the cab and body which is significantly more expensive than steel. The Mustang is currently overpriced
@@BC08 the Mustang has no competition now that Camaro's and Charger's are out of production, so I agree Ford is taking advantage of that and upping the price. That said, you have to sell allot of cars to cover development costs and Ford sells far more F150's than Mustangs. 750,000 vs 53,000 in '23. No comparison.
@@delbertmcfinklestein8576 Like I said though development costs for the Mustang were paid for long ago. The base chassis traces its roots back to the Lincoln LS (DEW98), steel construction and powertrain costs are amortized by sharing with F150. Ford has spent huge amounts of money being the first truly mass produced all-aluminum body construction with the ‘15 F150, not to mention much greater raw materials costs. Yes volume reduces production costs to a point but I’m willing to wager Ford has a higher profit margin on a 2024 Mustang GT than a 2024 F150 SuperCrew 4x4 5.0 XLT.
Hey guys, interesting comparison. How about one more? A 2024 Camaro LT 1 with an Auto vs your base GT? I know, Camaro is no longer in production but there are still a few out there. How about it?

When I changed out the open diff and locked it up with 3:73’s I missed the gears on the highway. that convertible fox had no business going that fast though. I had it change lanes by itself at high speeds a few times. Good old days 🙈🤪😎
From the time I spent in an S650 premium Mustang GT. I didn't find it filled with plastic as you kept mentioning. The 10R80 is the transmission choice for drag racing plus the premium is a more comfortable daily driver with the heated and cooled seats along with other included options like it's tires and bigger brakes. It's possible the base car needs a computer upgrade which Ford recently completed via Wi-Fi. So instead of complaining. Take it to a dealership. The nice part about purchasing the base is you can add your own bolt on performance parts when you have the extra money to improve it. Quarter mile times. FYI. I recently priced a new charger RT wit a 5.7. Cloth seats without power. A terrible decade old interior that had a $60,000 price. That's higher than the higher equipped Mustang GT premium. I would take the Mustang any day of the week when it's about features and the Gen 4 Coyote V8. I think you guys would complain if you found a bag of $100 bills because one was wrinkled.
Base model automatics value just went up after this video. That’s what I would get personally as I’m an older young man now😂. I even prefer big tires as opposed to rims. Never thought this day would come.
Base model and a whipple (10-12k) and got the price of the premium with loads more power!! People rave about that 10spd need to out up the base model gt against a 4wd f150 standard cab. The truck scene is coming back/is back with the performance people are getting from them now a days.
auto or not if you know how to drag shift a manual it wont be that drastic. If you have the 3:55 its a torsen. I have a base 300a package and its got a torsen. The difference in size of the pads on the 4 piston Brembo's and the 6 piston isn't very much. The base gt has 14 inch front and rear rotors.
These cars are cool and all, but they look so heavy when driving along the track, plus paying almost 60.000 is a bit much. I rather have a 2012 boss; might be less advanced but a more fun experience.

I'd like to know how magna ride compares to normal suspension in terms of daily driving on rough roads. Like if you set the magna ride to softest possible setting.
Not exactly apples to apples with a manual and an auto. Mustang with a manual is the only way to go. Shame it’s gotten so insanely expensive, even for the base one. Gone are the days of getting a new PP1 mustang for under $40k 😔
Some of you guys are missing the point of this. It was supposed to be auto vs manual for a reason. Then even gave an edge to the manual with the 3.73 rear end. Its tuff to beat these new autos. I'm kinda regretting opting for a manual some days. I love going through the gears but when it comes down to 1/4 mile and roll races your usually walked buy the auto.
That’s crazy about feeling unstable because I have a 2016 Ford Fiesta SE with the 3-cylinder and at over 100 feels great. 121 mph is where my car is governed.
Dude, what your feeling is the very long gear ratio in the m282 trans. There's nothing wrong with that car, it's just a getrag. The 10r80 makes the car feel like your making another 150 hp. The ratios are tight and it shifts like lightning. I own both and the difference is nuts.
I had a conversation that I remembered when one of them brought up that its a muscle car. Me personally, I think the new mustangs, even the S550's, have become more of a sports car than a Muscle car. The last real muscle car IMO was the challenger in a lot of ways. Muscle cars are your big, heavy, high horsepower cars that are straight line focused. The mustangs have become more sportier in the sense that its an all rounder car
The Mustang was never really a muscle car, it was a pony car. The muscle car was a midsized vehicle with a company's larger performance V8 engine, think GTO, Chevelle, Fairlane, Torino, and 442. The Camaro, Firebird, Cuda/Challenger (debateable), AMX, and Mustang were pony cars. The pony car is an American car classification for affordable, compact, highly styled coupés or convertibles with a "sporty" or performance-oriented image. Common characteristics include rear-wheel drive, a long hood, a short decklid, a wide range of options to individualize each car and use of mass-produced parts shared with other models. There is much debate among enthusiasts about the exact definition of a pony car, and what differentiates the vehicle from a muscle car. The general consensus is that pony cars are smaller and more refined than muscle cars. A few intermediate-size vehicles, such as the Dodge Challenger, may be considered to belong to both categories.
I’ve noticed that the base does have a gap in the infotainment system and the premium trim does not. Does that still mean they are the same but with a small plastic insert on the premium?
Did I hear you say the quarter time was 13.89 seconds? Sorry, dudes, but no Mustang GT has run that slow in over 15 years. Why does everyone else get 12.5 seconds with a 6-speed and lower 12s with the 10 speed for the 2024 GT?
You should have roll raced in both cars 1:1 ratios. That would be 4th gear in the manual and 7th in the automatic. Both being in 2nd is a huge advantage for the automatic
The wheels on both could be more appealing… I am hoping the whole blacked out wheel fad ends… I like some of the older gun metal finished wheels… $50-$60k… damn
Wonder what the weight difference is in the wheels? I seitched to a heavier wheel/tire setup on my Transit build and the 0-60 and 1/4 times suffered big time.
I dont get this test. So they race a manual GT + PP against a base automatic gt? To make things worse one of them questions if the m/t mustang has something wrong 😂😂. Hello, it has 4 more lightning fast shifts to distribute the powerband more effectively. What a waste of time and resources. 🤦🤦🤦
Guys, take the cars to a weight station and see what the difference is in weight between the standard Mustang and the Premium with performance pack. You should also take a dark horse against the standard one you used here not that the dark horse is better, but the tranny and gear ratios are different, then take a GT performance pack car with the auto and the base mustang with the auto. I think that will paint the better picture for the comparisons.
The coyote v8 prefers higher rpm to produce power so the 10 speed would keep the rpm in the happy spot. Same with the f150 it needs higher rpms to tow up hill

If you're gonna go custom and upgrade the suspension anyway, there's no point in getting all that extra GT stuff.
or just goI would spend the $49,995 & get either base mustang gt or f150 with whipple included and installed plus warranty you can't beat that!!
Once you said it was an auto vs manual I couldn’t watch the rest of it. Auto vs auto or manual vs manual would make it fair
Performance pack and active exhaust with a base GT checking in. The performance pack is definitely worth it.
Yeah the 10 automatic would be my choice. I have a 2018 f150 2.7 with the 10 speed automatic that is pretty good for a stock truck. It ran a 14.88@96 mph
The one guy looks just like his father. It's nice to see a son do well in his father's business. I paid 42 for my 2022, but there weren't as many of them in that day. The sticker was 45k. It had special paint, stripe, exaust, auto, and the bigger screen. It would have been nice to be able to get the newest one for the same money. At 100 mph, mine feels great. I try not to hit high speeds though. Mostly punch is 0-60. Nice to know you can pass and merge at will.
For reference here are the individual gear ratios for each transmission al9ng with the torque multiplication (individual gear x final drive ratio)...

I owned a 2021 GT with performance pack and Magnaride. Living in the Ozarks, the Performance Pack was absolutely a better choice than the base GT. It was a great handling car.
Maybe it depends on where you are going to drive your Stang🤔 some people prefer the automatic when your stuck in traffic...
I love the mustang and ford but that dash cluster is a disaster! Looks so damn lazy ! Like they went on Amazon, bought the cheapest slowest tablet and glued them to the lack of dash... Horrendous design
Simply horrible looking!
It's called modernization - have you seen modern cars lately? They are moving towards these type of screens
Back in 1990 I bought a 5.0 coupe with radio delete, wind up windows, no air, no back seat for under $13,000 CDN. You kids have a lot to learn about Mustangs and unsprung weight hindering acceleration. Those bigger tires and breaks are heavier too kids.
I had a 1991 5.0 Coupe, fun car, was like driving a go-cart. Light weight, tons of aftermarket support, and just great visibility out of the back. I will buy another one someday. I enjoyed it much more than my 2012 Mustang GT and the 2015+ GTs that I have rented.
How the hell is a Mustang GT premium the same price as a 302A F150 SuperCrew 4x4 XLT with a 5.0?
Ford absolutely has so much more money producing that aluminum F150 than this steel S650 which is a barely changed at all S550
Low volume cars are always more expensive. Way more F150's sold than mustangs.
Tommy is the highlight of this channel. Well done man
Hey guys, interesting comparison. How about one more? A 2024 Camaro LT 1 with an Auto vs your base GT? I know, Camaro is no longer in production but there are still a few out there. How about it?
I broke my diff many years ago in a fox and went from a 3:73 to a highway gear junk yard diff. I drove it for a couple months and beat a few friends I couldn’t beat before.
I've had both manual and 10r80 auto. I enjoyed the manual more
Same here
Should have bought a prius if you enjoyed going slow more than going fast.
@bobert866 it don't take a good driver to go fast. Learn to drive and go drifting
Some people don’t get the connection , the feeling of having control
I rather have a 2012 boss; might be less advanced but a more fun experience.
imagine the auto had the 3.55 optional rear ....would have liked to see a darkhorse A10 vs a perrformance pack gt A10 . the manual in the new mustangs is a dog ..the MT82 D5 had better ratios 12-17 3.66 1st and 5th was 1.1 with a better spread but still not as aggressive as a 10Speed ...my 18 A10 .355 vs my 19 bullit 3.73.6 speed no comparison .....11.77 119mph a 10 vs 12.37 115 ..on a roll from 30 or 50 it got walked hard too sold the bullit kept the A10
I'd like to know how magna ride compares to normal suspension in terms of daily driving on rough roads.
I think, on top of what was mentioned in the video, that the larger wheels are also hurting the performance of the more expensive model.
My extra cheat code on my 2019 GT auto with performance exhaust is having 3.55 gears which was a $550 option and probably not many people selected.
That’s crazy about feeling unstable because I have a 2016 Ford Fiesta SE with the 3-cylinder and at over 100 feels great. 121 mph is where my car is governed.
Those screen suck badly.. What good are those screens if they are going to have cheap processors running them...
Dude, what your feeling is the very long gear ratio in the m282 trans. There's nothing wrong with that car, it's just a getrag. The 10r80 makes the car feel like your making another 150 hp. The ratios are tight and it shifts like lightning. I own both and the difference is nuts.
Curious what the RWHP/RWTQ difference between these cars would be on a chassis dyno.
Cool, fun vid! 🤙🏼 Tommy, you need a haircut and better fitting t-shirts. lol
Interesting use of the word binnacle, which refers to a ships' compass housing. A generalized cntext.
Assuming/hoping the car "remembers" the quiet (or other) mode and it isn't something you have to do every time you start it?
Can you get a automatic performance pack 3.55 and run it again? And that 10 speed literally made the manual obsolete so much faster shifts
@@GooglePixelGoogle actually very informational. Thanks for the new knowledge!
6mt for me
I hate screens in cars, they’ll age poorly and if they go out they’re going to cost you.
I’ve noticed that the base does have a gap in the infotainment system and the premium trim does not. Does that still mean they are the same but with a small plastic insert on the premium?
Automatics are better for drag racing. But The manual would be more fun on the twisty road, so I will go with the manual. 👌
🤦🤦🤦
you clearly didn't understand
@@brianfeeney3936 You are right about that. Non sense comparison.
As soon I saw that it was a m/t vs a/t I stopped watching.
I think that will paint the better picture for the comparisons.
failed to mention the manual is the shitty one you dont get a good one till you get a dark horse spec.... would not buy manual the auto is so goood
Finally, someone gets it.
The coyote v8 prefers higher rpm to produce power so the 10 speed would keep the rpm in the happy spot. Same with the f150 it needs higher rpms to tow up hill
Entertaining video guys. Manuals are fun for sure but there's a reason all the fast brands use other transmissions and You tubers are part of that reason.
If you really want to embarrass the manual race the GT vs. the 4 cyl auto!! Manuals maybe be fun when you are alone on the road but not in traffic nor racing.
In no world is an auto ecoboost beating a manual GT
@@rileyfowler2389 not stock but my buddie’s 2020 eco boost 10 speed makes like 500 whp and walks on hellcats.
Edit: also, manual is very fun (easier and safer as well imo) in traffic and in every situation. Once you’re good at it you can do anything. Slower? For sure, especially in this instance.
Edit again: these edits were meant for OP.
@@rileyfowler2389 hey man I agree.. so then why not find out the truth? 4cyl auto vs. GT 6sp
I dont think its just gearing and gear ratios I think the manual Mustang manage horse power and torque in a different way. Its an electronic thing to protect the manual gear box for the long run.
FOR ONCE, I'M GLAD U GUYS @ TFL DID THIS as far as a head 2 head on what model car you're buying & is it worth it. THX!! Motor Week, CAR & DRIVER, MOTORTREND, ETC... TFL JUST TAUGHT Y'ALL SOMETHING NEW
The pros are laughing because real enthusiasts know that a/t are faster than m/t. To make things worse they add a pkg that improves handling but proceed to do acceleration tests.
Typical TFL car channel nonsense stuff.
🤭🤦
Why I have an old Foxbody manual as well as my 14 auto. Prob getting the 10 speed
did he say 13.89 my ecoboost has a best of 13.17 in the quarter. 2024 base eco!!!!!
THEY ARE IN COLORADO HIGH ELEVATION !
Take a full second off that time to adjust for the elevation. So it would probably run 12.9
3.73 hasnt been a true aggressive gear ratio for years now in the gt. Need 4.10s on the 6 speed to get the most for a factory setup
Those two screens in the base GT would annoy me to the point of not return! Its such an eyesore!
And you guys didn't know? When cars went to 8 speeds and higher in the begining of the LAST DECADE (2010s) manuals were the slower option.
Proof that the 10 sp auto is awesome... and for a daily driver in a very high traffic city it is the way to go. I can´t wait to see the same comparison but on a track with twists... I bet here the performance pack car is going to kill the regular car.
According to hundreds of street racing videos the auto is faster up to around 100mph...so for drag racing you want the auto...for high way rolls and top end the manuals apparently put down more powe and are faster after 3rd gear then the auto
I had a 2022 Mach 1 with the 6 speed (loved it) and traded for a 2024 Dark Horse with the auto and it's so much quicker.
You seem like you can't manage your finances.
@@bobert866 Seriously you don't know me, but I know your kind FO.
The color of the car that Kase is driving is so nice
Wait, is tfl doing a drag race that makes sense? Wheeeee!
Maybe traction or anti slip control is to blame? My 1972, 350, 375 HP nova, 4 speed was more aggressive and prime...I miss my nova😢
Nice job guys!!
Sorta stupid since they don't have the transmission. I have a 2024 mustang with the performance package with a manual transmission and would never think about buying the base over it.
The base car is a fair bit LIGHTER, which is by itself worth a tenth or two over a 1/4 mile run !!
You could find gear where both at same RPM on launch see how goes
Automatic a ton faster and half as fun I prefer fun that’s why I got the manual 🤷♂️😂
You seem dumb.
The only thing I don’t like about both of these cars is the iPad slapped on top of the dash look. It looks fragile and like an afterthought. It seems like it wouldn’t take much to figure out how to integrate them.
It’s just a mindless macho thing - it’s more fun to drive with a manual and the noise makes a better macho impression.
P. T. Barnum said it best.
Stopped the video right after 0:55. LMAO.
The 24 GT Premium automatic, will beat the manual GT every day of the week and twice on Sunday, I know, I own the automatic.
The base model is lighter. Of course is gonna be faster. That perf pack is built more for road racing not drag. Didnt understand why they were so confused…
The manual needs a driver mod with ydbt or derek baran productions at the wheel and sticky rear tires.
Glad I got my auto and as base as it gets. Great video
Manual is the only way for a muscle car to
Sure, if you want to regularly lose.

What size ?
It's sad that manual vs. auto switched effectiveness in the late 2000's. It used to be so fun to have a manual hatchback in the 80-90's and line up against a muscle car slushbox of the same era, back in the day. From a dig or rolling, the muscle car would have a pretty pathetic showing. But these days you can have a reaction time of single digit milliseconds, shift perfectly, and you'll still be left in the dust. I would be curious about the cheapest auto GT vs. the fully loaded auto GT. Those additional goodies weigh down a car, pretty quick.
You can save the city and power companies money on infrastructure, your insurance on a few claims, Legal fees, time out of court and, the lives of pedestrians by driving something other than a Mustang.
There's nothing wrong with the 6 speed. The automatic is just faster. There's no let up in-between shift points
Nothing old man about manual, it's a skill set and makes muscle cars fun to drive.
Magnaride breaks down after like 5 years and is so expensive to replace. Get the base model and modify it yourself.
I would be curious to have you drag race it with automatic in manual mode using paddle shifters
Thank you guys. I was wondering if it worth the upgrade
