I bought my Vantage for £116,000. It was a year old with 1,500 miles on it. It has every option you can get so I would guess the list price was £155-160k. I do think the DBS is a dud on balance though.
The good thing is, people who love these cars don't care about depreciation. They love them for what they are. Just plan fun with a price tag that has no time for anyone.
A one year old Porsche Turbo S sounds like a fast, reliable supercar, that's not going to lose too much and still is a fully practical day-to-day driver.
It depends which one you get and when. Some lose 50% of their value and Porsche has been pushing $200,000 911 Turbos for a decade but they lose way too much value new. I bought my 720s 2nd hand, 19 plate last year, in 2021, 3000 miles, mclaren orange, all the carbon bits for £170k so far i've probably lost £10k on it. I think most of the depreciation is now done so i doubt they'll go below £100k, but who knows what the market will bring next year.
How are you finding the 720s? I have had a 540c for four years and throughly enjoyed it. Fun to throw around on country roads. Only a few minor issues, such as with bodywork and a/c. I am very tempted to move into a 2019 720s coupe at around the 150k mark. There is something pulling me back however...
@@MM-lc2vn I've had quite a few cars and the 720s is such a brilliant car - i had a split windscreen that appeared out of no where last Xmas but Mclaren Leeds were fast to replace and fix Free of charge in less than 1 week. First time on the show, and I thought they were priceless together once I read this post. It takes two synchronized minds to pull off this kind of success.
I bought my red/white stripe '05 FGT for $140K in 1999 with 200 miles. (The first owner died.) I added a special Jon Lund tune for $1800 and it puts out 692 hp at the rear wheels. Still 100% cosmetically original, I've maintained it perfectly for 9400 miles. I was offered $425K for it at a hi-$$$ Cars & Coffee 2 1/2 weeks ago. It just happened to be exactly the FGT the guy was looking for and wanted, and he got to examine it right then and there with no hassles. The latest "digital" FGT's have actually helped the value of the earlier "analog" 2005-2006 models.
I wonder if it will be easier to buy an sf90 or f8 with a discount elsewhere in the world since these a bunch of them laying around and then to ship to the US and not play the stupid Dealer game.
Brother has just taken delivery of a Corvette C8. Doesn't give a damn about price drops. He had a new Honda NSX. Kept it a month and flipped it for nearly £40,000.
Who pays 40k over sticker on a new NSX? They drop 40k the moment you leave the dealerships driveway even during crazy covid time. Your brother won the lottery on that sale
Awesome video but next time can you do the imperial system conversions as well for your cousin from across the pond? It's one of your old kings faults that we use that system anyways,so please say specs in both thanks mate.
It is very sad to see, we seam to be only good at small batch cars where quality control can be held in house, but unfortunately we love to put anything English apart, good or otherwise, yet the Lotus Emira and McLaren's are still IMO the best drivers cars.
Enjoyed the video, as I do with all your content. But, with mainstream cars (pre-Covid) 45-50% depreciation was par for the course in the first three years. That’s what PCP GFVs were based on. So the numbers are painful here because of the values, but the depreciation numbers are just “normal”?
I'm currently looking at a 2019 720s coupe at £150k. Based on £280k that is close to a 50% drop in 3 years. I can't make up my mind whether that is an acceptable drop in value or not? In comparison my Aston Martin V12 Vantage is the same value today as when I bought it in 2012 as a one year old car.
Great vid guys, as always and prefer it when you are both involved. You must do updates regularly. Lots of interest and changes taking place. Please do another looking at more affordable classics and again highlight changes.

After driving an F8 a few months ago, I'm surprised they hold any value. They drive like a Cadillac Hearse, no steering feel, terrible drive by wire throttle, just terribly boring. I couldn't wait to hop back into my 53 year old Pantera.
A very interesting take on that F8, which goes against the usual assessment. I don't doubt that you are correct in what you say. Especially when you mention you drive said De Tomaso, a rear wheel drive only car. You have good taste.
I’ve owned 5 Range Rovers over the last 10 years.I’ve only sold 1.I normally give them to my kids when they’re a couple years old .I really like them, enjoy driving them, and will buy more but like all cars they’re a rapidly depreciating means of transportation.
In 2013 I bought a used 2010 5L Jaguar XKR for $38K, which lost approximately 2/3 of its value by the time I bought it., which is how I was able to buy it. 11 years and 211,000 miles on the odometer later, it is the best automobile I will have ever owned in over 56 years of driving, and dozens of very nice cars. It is still my daily driver and still too good to give up, reliable, quick (pulleyed and tuned when I first got it to about 600hp for about $700) luxurious, comfortable, and yes you can get two sets of golf clubs in the trunk. It's been tracked many dozens of times and after well over 200,000 miles, who thinks about depreciation? i've gotten my money's worth out of it many times over, and it will never leave my garage until I'm dead and gone. So, depreciation is a double-edged sword that allows opportunities as well as raiding your wallet.
@@tedgeldberg6498 You’re right. This is not the 1950s these cars last a while and who cares about the resale. I seldom sell cars. I mostly just store them and drive them. My car with the most mileage is a 05 Bentley Continental GT and it has 25,000 miles. Its resale value is $1.28 and a ham sandwich so why would I sell the damn thing? it still looks and drives like almost a new car. I have some newer cars as a matter fact I have a brand new Range Rover autobiography, but I still like driving my old cars. I think that’s the thing to do you like driving and if you like it, why would you sell the damn thing to buy some other new one you don’t know anything about? people don’t really realize that no one cares about you or what you have or who you are or anything why would you take the time to waste a bunch of money on a depreciating asset?
@@lv4077 I also never sell a car. I either store it away or give it to a family member. By the time I'm finished with them, they have so much mileage (but usually in excellent condition), there is not much value in them to sell. Some, while desirable, are just not very good to drive like my '78 280Z which I've owned since new. It feels like an old car, much more so than my older '72 De Tomaso Pantera, which is tighter, has more than three times the power of the Z, and which I still drive every weekend after 30 years of ownership. The interesting thing is that I could part with any of them without batting an eye except for the 2010 XKR, it's been such a joy for so long.

There are 2 sides to every coin. Depreciation is often the greatest cost of a car purchase, yet a bonus to second hand buyers, let the unwary lose their shirts on buying new (or within the first 3-4 years) to acquire the latest and greatest - the sensible buyer can acquire a top-specced supercar, put on a private plate, get a recognised specialised warranty, or self-warranty and enjoy fabulous technology for the same outgoings as a new mid-range "prestige" brand. Research and timing are everything. I refused another new M3/M5 and for the same money got a 650s spider.
This was indeed a highly informative, enlightening and enjoyable episode; it has confirmed that my life long habit of buying used cars will serve me well when getting into a supercar. And that make me very happy indeed!
I have the hardtop convertible one. It’s a looker from every angle. It just sounds bad with that truck engine inside and I have the performance exhaust. I know that’s been fixed with the flat plane crank Z06 C8.
Wow, completely different market here in the US. Nearly every car you listed as either held its value or is going for way above sticker private party. Performante's are going for sticker or more, STO is way above sticker, Even the MC20 is commanding strong numbers well above MSRP in the used market right now.
Great video, yes the Portofino does't send a shiver down my spin like my F12 but is a great daily and one of the best looking cabriolets. It is what it is.

Great video. Would be nice to look at longer term depreciation. For example Performante's are now selling close to sticker price (roughly between 200k-220k gbp).
jaguar f-type v6 supercharged 2015, used to cost 120k, recently stumbled upon one in great condition for 19k, white, together with white f-pace for 15k (2017). Jaguar is the leader of depreciation

Aventador prices will crash hard once its successor comes out in meaningful numbers in about two years. What we have seen in past few years has been in many ways outlier anyway. Too many people with way too much money they do not know what to do with it. At same time production numbers for practically all supercar models has been much larger than ever before. Combination which can't last forever. There will be lots of owners which will get burned since they bought at peak market with huge markups on already too high list prices.
Quite interesting and informative. Now I know when I see all the fancy stuff cruising around Monterey during the historics or Miami Beach. Thanks guys, you're both awesome!
I think the U.S. is 6 to 12 months behind the UK. Prices are still very high because the economic pinch (high rates and slow down) has not hit hard yet. Well, except for SBF and crew. I've recently started to see big downward movement on the 2019 Aston DBS.
🎉 all British built cars are a nightmare to maintain and don’t hold up yr pants only a Range Rover is the exception and Chinees owned. Brexit people are you awake?
Working for a motorsports and race car driver I’d be hesitant to buy a used supercar, they get beat up, taken to the track and maintenance is astronomical
Great video! I'd love to see one on 'potential' future classics. I believe the key tenets of any potential candidate would be that they were a) critically acclaimed, yet b) never a commercial success

The auto manufacturers are being forced to go EV behind the scenes, with a cover story of being 'green' and 'saving the earth.'
Many thanks guys This is a huge surprise for me but very informative too,my first time watching s video of yours But I felt compelled to subscribe cheers
Welcome aboard
@@MM-lc2vn just rent one. Best way to find out.
@@MM-lc2vn build quality check panel gaps and interior quality centre console wobble
@@MM-lc2vn I've had quite a few cars and the 720s is such a brilliant car - i had a split windscreen that appeared out of no where last Xmas but Mclaren Leeds were fast to replace and fix Free of charge in less than 1 week. The extended warrenty is a bite at £3k but for a car that looks so good, scissors doors, lets loads of attention for £150k, i really don't know what beats it. If im to pick one thing thats 'slight' downer, that would be the noise. not quite V10 or V12 noise, but thats me being picky, its still a great noise
The UK market is very different to the rest of Europe!! A brand new Turbo S is 10% cheaper then a Turbo S on the used market!!
Fabulous to see you back together - Fabulous banter and ‘in depth’ knowledge. ❤
😘
I managed to avoid buying every car on that list. Lucky or what!
😂
That was hysterical and your combined glee was even more so....
It's interesting how the US market is different. The SF90 has been selling about $100-150K over sticker, and the F8 as well over sticker
The C8 is still the best performance value out there.
The Aston Martin zone! Lol Love you guys. Ferrari guy here. Naturally aspirated only and 3 pedals... schwing!
Awesome video but next time can you do the imperial system conversions as well for your cousin from across the pond? It's one of your old kings faults that we use that system anyways,so please say specs in both thanks mate.
Do you mean prices or measurements/stats?
So sad to see the British companies doing so poorly
It is very sad to see, we seam to be only good at small batch cars where quality control can be held in house, but unfortunately we love to put anything English apart, good or otherwise, yet the Lotus Emira and McLaren's are still IMO the best drivers cars.
Enjoyed the video, as I do with all your content. But, with mainstream cars (pre-Covid) 45-50% depreciation was par for the course in the first three years. That’s what PCP GFVs were based on. So the numbers are painful here because of the values, but the depreciation numbers are just “normal”?
Very entertaining, guys. Had a blast.
Glad you enjoyed it
A fairly decently specced 720s is about 280k. 400k is very optimistic 😂
yeah, and they're talking £ not $ honestly i don't know where from they came up with those prices
Hey Z
So you 🎉 😮
Awesome program, love watching your videos, well thought out and informative!
As a matter of interest, I wonder if you can feature a video on highest appreciating supercars of old and which ones you expect to appreciate in the long run, I own a 2015 Italia, and seems to be holding its value and even increased in South Africa, thanks for your effort and entertainment 🙏
Yes, I think that’s a great idea, although very tricky to predict
Great Episode. Lovely to see you both feeding off each other and doing Car Guys stuff. Sad to see Aston and McLaren in that death spiral right now
It’s not just right now. It’s been always.
Thanks, Dave - glad you enjoyed it
@@TheCarGuysTV Hi hope your having a good day. I have a suggestion. Some of us watch videos without the sound. It would be nice if you can use minimal text on your pictures of cars. like maybe flash Name, value and one tid bit of info we can show off to with our friends.
McLarens suck. Hard.
@@barbarusbloodshed6347 live in San Diego. I saw three McLaren s in one day. I heard that there are not that many in our town. The three I saw were all on tow trucks. That was before covid 2020 or so. Seemed a bit rare to see those fine machines all on tow trucks in one night. what are the odds.
Nice to see the boys back together.
Fascinating...but few suprises! Great vid though, Guys. 👍🏻
Maserati lost their halo brand status, when they started making cheap ghiblis
Agreed
Jaguar and Land Rover are always on the top list for FASTEST depreciation luxury cars.....as always
The interesting thing is that I could part with any of them without batting an eye except for the 2010 XKR, it's been such a joy for so long.
great video, awesome analysis. keep it up guys... can you do a similar video on the super luxury cars as well...
That could be fun
If Poundland produced granite work surfaces they would look like forged carbon.
Or Tandy / RadioShack 🤪
Agree with AMG Miata, being extremely overpriced. It’s not a match to SLS not even mentioning SLR.
It’s nice to have you back, guys👍👍👍
6 hour round trip - but it was worth it
Call me gloating, mischievous, gleeful, or even malicious. Whatever the case may be, I love this video! Thx TCG
Glad you enjoyed!
Interesting! Was slightly nervous as I own a Huracan EVO rwd and thought prices were holding up extremely well.. glad your assessment rings true! Great watch as always!
I doubt... That you own a supercar
Jealousy is an awful thing to suffer from.. 😉
Apologies.. sorry for having a bit of fun with this.. Check out the podcast “Behind the Glass” Series 5, episode 37… 16min 33seconds in.. about 6 months ago.. that’s my car.. 😄😉 (Lynx Grey with silver wheels), also featured again on the live event they did at Alexander’s prestige in August.
As we’re on the subject.. can’t help myself.. 😄. same podcast again.. series 4, episode 17.. 14min. 22seconds in.. my 718 Spyder.. (actual car used in coronation street) .. not a supercar in this instance, but still.. a damn fine car. There’s more if you want me to share them. 👍
@@scottcowan6798 Awesome man, I’m picking up my Evo RWD tomorrow. Also keeping my eye on the market lol may end up selling it soon and rebuying next year. At least I got it at MSRP, so my downside is protected a bit. Either way it’ll be fun :)
Glad to have been of service
The new corvette is probably the best value for a supercar.
Possibly reflects the difference in the buoyancy of the two economies. We're about to switch off the lights in UK🙃
Thats all i kept thinking. This is informative but not accurate for the US market (which it obviously states).
Guys, great insight, The depreciation of Mackers confirms why I discounted even thinking about buying one
This was great ! Really enjoyed it. Missed you two bouncing off each other as well ! Excellent !
In general; British, then German, then Italian. Been this way for a long time. No surprises.
Great video, yes the Portofino does't send a shiver down my spin like my F12 but is a great daily and one of the best looking cabriolets. It is what it is.
Wow some of these are losing a house worth in the first year.
Just found this channel. These guys are entertaining AF.😂

great video guys, really good one.
Bought my z06 corvette in 2019 and today if i sell it ill get 3-5% more than what I paid :D
👍🏻👍🏻
Great video and very funny and cold beers to you! 😆🍺
Glad you enjoyed it
Loved this. Awesome stuff👍👍👍
Highly enlightening gents, glad to see you still hanging in there in spite of approaching "Use By" date😏 Have a very good 2023 - may your depreciation be low!
👍🏻👍🏻
Nice to see you both!!!
Thanks
Loved the video guys 😎✌🏽
Great video. Would be nice to look at longer term depreciation. For example Performante's are now selling close to sticker price (roughly between 200k-220k gbp).
The thing that is more frightening is that these are based on used retail prices which means a dealer will pay you less to put it on the lot......
These are based on retail + options, so total amount paid by customer.
Lol! Mclaren 720s would cost over £30 per mile. That’s £100 to get your Sunday paper!
jaguar f-type v6 supercharged 2015, used to cost 120k, recently stumbled upon one in great condition for 19k, white, together with white f-pace for 15k (2017). Jaguar is the leader of depreciation
You need to do more of these type vids, thoroughly enjoyable...unless you have a 720S 😂
I think the EVO car of the year may have a very positive effect on the Maserati.
Now this is the video that no other TH-camr was making!
Thank you. It was great seeing you both together and that good old British charm and banter coming alive again after the pandemic forced more solo videos from you both.
Well done both of you!
Cheers, dude
Have you hit the algorithm here? 10x viewers. Well done guys.
It is a bit of a shock tbh
Aventador prices will crash hard once its successor comes out in meaningful numbers in about two years. What we have seen in past few years has been in many ways outlier anyway. Too many people with way too much money they do not know what to do with it. At same time production numbers for practically all supercar models has been much larger than ever before. Combination which can't last forever. There will be lots of owners which will get burned since they bought at peak market with huge markups on already too high list prices.
Maybe so
It’s for this reason I don’t buy new.
I know you guys don't like a Boxster or Cayman, but what do you guys think of 981 Boxster GTS? Can you please review one? It's my dream car.
GT2 GT3.... DREAMS❤️
They are a nice car.
Great data analysis guys. My dreams to return to Aston ownership..crushed 😅
I'd still have a DBS despite the loss

Thanks guys; informative and entertaining!
Glad you enjoyed it
.....and the most appreciating car is a ... FORD🤣
Really enjoyed this. Funny but informative.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I could see the gritted teeth guys when speaking about the GT3 😁😁
😂
I think the U.S. is 6 to 12 months behind the UK. Prices are still very high because the economic pinch (high rates and slow down) has not hit hard yet. Well, except for SBF and crew. I've recently started to see big downward movement on the 2019 Aston DBS.
I knew it had to be an Aston or a McLaren in #1. It just had to. 😂
Interesting
Suddenly a Corvette C8 looks like the most sensible Supercar of all. The ZO6 for sure. Sorry but so few of the cars featured here are actually good looking in my humble opinion.
You buy a car to drive not to keep it in your showcase so that you can sell it for double the price five years later.
Nobody hates making money
@@currentaf8455i do..thats why i live in a bush
Some people think they can
Exactly, I bought a 991.2 911 turbo-s in 2018. Drive it every single day. Winter tyres on when required. Currently got 43,000 miles on the clock. I can’t believe people keep them for a drive only now and again
Not driving and enjoying a perfect looking and running car is the sane as not sleeping with a playboy model as you are saving her for the next guy
Great video, but surprised to see the F8 on your list. In the States the 1-2 year old F8’s are still going for around $100K OVER original sticker.
All sorts of different reasons in the States.
Only you guys can make the prospect of £150k depreciation entertaining 🤣 I love your channel ❤️
Cheers, Barry 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Fantastic video gentlemen! Thanks! My dreams of getting an Aventador someday are dead though 😢
Economics are absurd. PS - please stay away from any Shmee-related content. That guy is so smug and smarmy and spoiled, he’s insufferable. I’ve already unsubscribed from one of your competitor’s TH-cam channels when he teamed up with Shmee.
Shmee is actually a very nice person. Sorry to break it to you.
This sounds more like a personal hatred thing. Tim is not spoiled. He just does things differently that's all. And he is very nice guy if you ever meet him in person.
