14 years ago, the most Streets Ahead sitcom ever made was born. It gave us iconic characters, plenty of memorable catchphrases, and six seasons of hilarity. All we need now is the movie!
But they missed out the best bit of that gag!!! Later in the episode when Shirley says "it's like watching his (Jeffs') soul slip through our fingers. But what more can we do?", and Annie, who has been standing beside her, pulls (from out of shot) a bottle of chloroform and as she looks at Jeffs retreating back applies the bottle liberally to the rag she is holding in her other hand. ... and then Troy grabs her hands and says "... WILL YOU STOP!?" Gold.
I was watching Community since the first episode aired. I told everyone and anyone to watch the show. It took until it got on Netflix a decade later for people to finally appreciate the genius of this show. For that decade ive quoted this show and i must've sounded like a lunatic to everyone
14 years of laughing. Community has been a rock and light for me during some of my darkest moments. Thank You to everyone involved. Thank You to the fanbase aswell for being streets ahead
ending with Troy saying "you don't tell Brita she's the worst" makes me think of that moment when Jeff compliments everyone and tells Brita : "Brita ! You're the BEST"
You should have told me that before I saw her in the episode where she plays a goth girl to Jeff's Chris Angel impersonation. That made me attracted to Britta for the first time. Then I lost it when she said bagels instead of bagels. Ugh she's the worst.
Streets Ahead is genuinely the catch phrase used in Western Australia for their public transport system. I like to think a subversive Community fan was responsible for that in the conceptual phase and nobody else caught on :D
This show came out at the start of my junior year of HS and surprisingly it became a show my mom and I would watch every Thursday. It’s so bizarre to think that the “Remedial Chaos Theory” episode was the last thing her and I ever watched together. I came home from college for my birthday, helped set up her hospice care bed, watched that episode, and a few days later she passed. Such a random moment, but it brought me joy to have a moment like that before she got much worse over the weekend. Even today, if I see a clip of that episode or think of it, it only brings me back to that moment. It really was the last time her and I just enjoyed each others company while silently watching something. Thank you Community, I’ll have that memory for the rest of my life!
The number of times a background actor had to suddenly navigate around, over, Annie et al. is a great bonus on so many scenes. E.g., in Conspiracy Theories: "Maybe I'll just stop standing!" Look for the BG person who was juat supposed to be walking down the hallway suddenly have to do that little onstacle-course tiptoe & leap.
0:25 I think Abed was right in specifying that. He may have just done it because he doesn't understand social cues, but really they shouldn't be lying to Shirley about that.
I'm sorry but no iconic moments list of Community is valid if it doesn't have "Annie's pretty young, we try not to sexualize her." That's more iconic and more quoted than most things here. But anyway, happy expulsion day!
Chevy's delivery of the phrase streets ahead was what made it so memorable. Love him or hate him, without Chevy, it wouldn't have been as momentous as it is!! 🥲
Jim Rash's performance in the VR file system episode is a masterpiece. It makes it even better when you realize he wasn't seeing anything. All acting. Perfect dedication to the bit.
I always love the freedom the series gave the characters to evolve naturally. Troy enters the series as a standard football player and evolves into something completely different. Br Brita, who was supposed to be the romantic partner, went to someone else. Shirley, Jeff, Anie and even Pierce too. It's a cute way of saying that they felt so comfortable with the group that they decided to drop appearances and just show who they really are.
