IFS for Therapists #8 - Interventions

  • Looking at different interventions: when to follow the IFS protocol to access an exile, when to work more laterally with a cluster of parts. Addressing common concerns about unburdening, such as behaviour change as a result of the work; working with distracting parts; how to use the DSM as an IFS therapist.
Working with the common burdensome belief that "I am responsible for your feelings", looking at the role and applicability of psychoeducational interventions; the role of catharsis.

I have only connected to IFS in last 6months or so...I'm blown away by realising the part my parts have played and I'm going to be a massive advocate for it going forwards as well as regression therapy which opened so many doors for me..it has changed my daily struggle into a picture I'm now making sense of...I'm getting closer and closer to my real future...after losing dad 25yrs ago...it's just me that's still stuck there...it's so so powerful...good luck...want to get in touch with Derek...

Omgosh, look for the meaning in accepting the diagnosis.
    I absolutely love that.
For years I have thought of the DSM as an utterly useless set of writing

I am finding that many of my clients LOVE analogies in order to sort of operationalize very abstract experiences and concepts. This is a great way to demonstrate that!

Wow I had no idea there was a difference between a cathartic release and unburdening! 😳

Hello! Thanks for the videos. I'm a therapist - and I'm curious, you mentioned your mediation practice when holding space for them. Can you share a little more about that? Thanks!
