    thanks for the correction on the designer...MacLear and Harris not S&S...I should have caught that especially as i was briefly the yacht maintenance hand on a 72' M&H called Jubillee back in my Navy days..(just after they invented water) :-)
    thank you Drew

    I grew up sailing a Seabreeze. It's been in our family for 50 years. I think you made a mistake with the designer. It's not S&S, it's Maclear and Harris.

    We were smitten with the beauty of the Seabreeze the 1st time we saw one, now 24 years ago. It is an absolute joy to sail! As a matter of fact, out yawl Stardust, hull 82 of the series, makes a cameo as a still in your video. For the critics out there making negative comments, I would say you should get off the couch and go sailing. Most sailors who sail lots of different boats would agree that a good all around boat is a joy. The Seabreeze is a fantastic small 35’ cruiser that can take you anywhere your heart and soul want to go.

    The reason your channel is my favorite about boats for sale is you present boats you know can be afforded by regular people. I have yet to see you present a boat that you haven’t taught us so much about. Keep making videos and I’ll keep watching!

    I’m a pilot and phrase “I’m not sure if the extra knot is worth the extra $400,000” is the most relatable thing I’ve ever heard a yachtsman say.

    I owned a 43' 1938 P. Rhodes which I sailed down past the Turks, and Leeward Islands, Bequia, and beyond. I replaced the Atomic 4 gas with a Volvo MD3 diesel in Nassau.
    I Bought the diesel for $50 but it was completely in parts down to the rings and crankshaft all in baskets. Had a little help from Crazy Johnny Brown from Browns Boatyard.
    You are correct everyone asked about this old boat rather then speak to owners of $500,000 yachts. I gave RANDOM away and she sailed off somewhere to places unknown.

    Just bought a Seabreeze and have been working on her, Even after 50+ years she is still solid.

    Hopefully will get to splash her next spring.

    • @YachtHunters
      @YachtHunters  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fantastic and congratulations!! We must know: is she a sloop or yawl rig? Diesel or gas? What color? Did you catch our episode before buying her? Did you get an equally good bargain? Where are you going to take her? If you can't tell by all the questions we were pretty smitten with the Seabreeze...

      She’s a sloop rig with a Westerbeke diesel. The topside is white with red stripes and a blue bottom. Yes, I did get a good deal through an estate sale, but it took a year of looking.
      With big dreams of sailing the world, but Near term, just getting her in the water. Lol

    I’ve had a ’72 Pearson 30 with an Atomic 4 gas engine for 20 years ; it’s been very reliable and easy to work on, and parts and support are still to be had.
    I would tell a prospective buyer of a boat with one not to be put off.
    To be sure: the value of a mid sized older sailboat is to some large degree determined by the state of engine, and you should always have a mechanic look at the engine as your surveyor is looking at the boat -

    • @YachtHunters
      @YachtHunters  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is both helpful and very wise.... we think getting a proper survey is imperative for anyone serious about buying a boat.... same goes for having a mechanic evaluate the engine. Thanks for sharing (and congrats on owning a beauty!) !!

    Very professional, great video and editing for such a small subscriber channel. Enjoy your love of the boats and knowledge. I think that boat might need rigging, nav etc, there is a 5 figure problem. All the old boats will need solar, batteries, inverters, nav gear, autopilot service, but thats doable... Can you go over a few inspection techniques to check capillary probs, water ingress, . Are you going to look at cats? I want a cat in a year or two. Probably not your thing i guess...
    I should get you to find me a boat...

    Gorgeous boat. Funny about the Atomic 4 discussion; I have one on my 1975 C&C27, and it's terrific. Simple and easy to maintain, parts & service easy to get. Running the blower before starting is no big deal. And my insurance company has never said a word about it. So if it's mechanically sound, I don't see any reason to reflexively (expensively) swap in an A4 for a new diesel.

    Wow Captain Q! We love your spirit, and your knowledge on boats. You inspire us to go out there to finally take that step to buy a yacht and discover the world on the water. We do not know much about sailing. We get a lot of comments from our viewers that we do not know what we are getting ourselves into etc, and that is true.. But at the same time we are new to all of this, so we do not really know if we will succeed in going on with our story. Right now we are looking for at a Hunter 42 Passage. If the boat is in a good state, could you consider this boat being a blue water boat? Love Dirk & Maraya

Very reliable, just run the blower before you start it. Really, only a few of Capt Q's reviews are going to be as much fun to sail as this one.

      @YachtHunters  4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Perelandra is the name of a book (Science Fiction) by CS Lewis. Great book, which does nothing to dissuade me from running down to Ipswitch to buy this boat. (a lack of money will do that....) Nice boat. Very much the kind of boat I'd like to get.

      @@YachtHunters well, my corp lunches have already been downgraded to McDonalds, don't have NetFlix, nor a garage to sell. But, I've got some teenagers (lightly used) that I'm willing to negotiate on... :-) The purchasing of one of these (like the Cal 40 you just reviewed! WOWSERS!) doesn't scare me as much as the upkeep costs. Captain, I'm guessing you're in Southern Maine. Can I buy you a coffee sometime, and pick your brain? Thanks for these videos. Even in these non sailing days, you're making me drool all over my keyboard! :-)

    The centerboard will help her track upwind ( uncomfortable and avoidable but you'll be thankful in those situation whereupwind is your only option) and great to get you into safe anchorage.
    Easy to single hand, great for a couple, good boat running in a storm.
    Down side, not a roomy interior, expensive to dock, haul out.
    The v berth is used to store sails when underway, no good too sleep in.
    Ideal boat, miss the sixties.

    • @YachtHunters

      dont forget she had cockpit lockers great for stowing well folded sails and opening up the fwd cabin for living space

      @@YachtHuntersv birth no good for anything, but temporary head sail storage underway., best use I ever saw of that area, was the removal of the bulk heads, and a wrap around sofa.
      I think it was a...cant recall...it had loads of wicker cabinets.
      That's a real nice looking boat, I always wondered how those overhanging poop afts performed in a following sea.

    Really like the combination of a full shallow keel and big centerboard.
    It will track beautifully, get into some pretty shallow places and I would think do quite well going to weather with that centerboard down.

      Fashion always attracts imitation like all the cars today you cant tell them apart and back then as sail deign changed others gloomed on and hence striking similarities in any given period though changes weren't quite so annualized back then as they are today
