I miss these technical videos. We need more. Great job
This is the type of content I love on the channel
I personally enjoy the ambient noise and the content
A proper engineer at work, great demonstration of a professional repair, great job
I wish 90 % of your videos were like this..awesome
Great to see real world work from you guys. No hype, clickbait or jazzy editing, just reality in a professional outfit.
Ricky, I always used brass to knock any metal parts that cannot be marked as the brass is softer than the metal your hitting, meaning you won’t damage it. Toolmaker with 30 years of engineering background. Love these videos too, proper geeky stuff 👍
I was a toolmaker but sometimes it's not always possible
@@andybegbie8553 My dad was a toolmaker.
See your back thank god😊
Another cracking evenings entertainment/tuition. Good to see you upbeat & positive 👍🏻
Lucky the customer was on scene so that you could show him the problem and ensure that he was aware that it wasn’t caused by you guys. I’m sure they will really appreciate you using the salvaged part to fix the pump properly and save them a lot of money. That’s why they’ll keep coming back to you. Top job. 😎
Love it mate keep it up. Shows you how garages ruin stuff to get you out the door. Your attention to detail is beautiful. Peace ✌️
Ricky, for getting the Woodruff key in and getting it to seat, use a toolmakers clamp to push it into place. You can set it up to push in either end of the key until it is seated, then use it to set it up so that the end the gears slide on is slightly lower than the other end. If it is too low ( ie the other end is sitting too high) then tapping the gear into place will make the key sit parallel and alow the gear to sit down fully.
The breadth of knowledge and skill levels in the company is bloody impressive. Sometimes you come across people that just inspire confidence, making you want to deal with them. Unfortunately I’m not in a position to buy cars of this calibre, but if I could, I’d like to give these people my money to look after them 👍
Very interesting strip-down and rebuild , enjoyed it 👌
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching
I get told off for hoarding old parts and handy off cuts . my miscellaneous bolt tub lacks any form of organisation.
Ha …….we all know that these qualities of
‘don’t chuck anything handy away ‘ Pay off .
Found this oil pump setup quite interesting 👍
love these technical videos
Woodruff keys are available from most good engineering suppliers for a few quid... Or keep the most common sizes of key bar stock in and make your own 👍🏻
Great Vid Rik
Love it - very satisfying
Awesome work!! Great job!!
Great vid rick glad your back
Cool video, cheers
Great detailed video guys 👍
Love these vids.. great watching a master at work..keep it up lads
Brilliant Rick!!!
Fascinating stuff!
Those bluepoint sets are mint aren't they, I got one in my car! 😊
Love the attention to detail.
How nice to see things done properly
Great video
More like this please, excellent job!
You make it look so easy 😮
Lovely to watch Rick.
A master at work 🙌 👏
Love the trick with checking if the o ring has kinked in the groove, thanks!!!
This was excellent thank you great content.
Interesting video..👍😁
Another great video, I could watch Ricky work all day and he is one hell of a good teacher how he explains things.
Love watching you guys work like this. Proper people doing an amazing job!! Puts the dealers to shame every time!! Keep up the great work :)
Very interesting, great to see a job done properly, rare these days, keep up the strip down and fix videos 👍👍👍
Cool! I like seeing the guts of assemblies like this. Wouldn't get to otherwise if not for videos like this.
Love it. You say "yea" so many times. 😂
masterfully done mate! dig this kind of stuff and nice to know how the bits on my car actually work (plus, now the invasive "it's fine, just do your OWN R8 maintenance!" thoughts are truly silenced!! :) )
Fantastic video tonight and your an honest guy I bet a lot of garages including main dealers would have done what you had done and changed the customer the full amount Top man
Keep the content coming 👍
I love the way Mr Ricky explains the various processes as if everybody watching will be heading off to their respective home garages to practise!
Big question: why do people with extremely expensive and complex cars take their vehicles to Bodge-it and Banger's garage for maintenance/repair?
Hi Ricky , I little wile ago my mate complained about an engine oil leak on his Gen 1 R8 V8 after an engine oil change at a Rolls Royce Bently main dealer were he bought the car and paid £400 for the oil change . He came to me for help knowing I my self service my own gen 1 R8 . After a close inspection the leak was coming from one of the drain plugs on the dry sump . Thinking it was not tight enough found out they over tightened the plug and stripped the thread in the sump . Plug was turning but luckily it never fell out . We cut a new thread in the sump died square with a greased up tap running through a thick tube we held against the drain port on the sump . Cut a new thread with a new over size plug fitted . We was happy the plug fitted died square on to the sump with no leaks . Unbelievable the level of service this type of garage reputation you would depend on would do that low level of work on a customers car when I only work for a Kubota tractor main dealer and did a better job . Unbelievable.
As always Ricky and your guys do a fabulous job on your customers cars . Love all the attention to detail , you really put your hart and soul in to what you do . High five to you mate . 👏👏👍
Great video!
Thanks!
Great video
Thanks!
Nice job Ricky. It's good to see the lengths you will go to to save your customers serious pains in the wallet. Good on you mate!
Proper job, nice to see real mechanicin👍
Thanks 👍
I'll never own one of these cars but I feel like I learned something here. Great video.
Outstanding! Thank you :)
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching
Great to see there are actually machaninc around that fix stuff, not just fitters, like in all dealers nowadays. If it's broke through it away and fit a new one. One thing I might add, did you do the shaft seals between the sections after the deep clean? Maybe a question for toss pot Tuesday 😂🤙 keep on keeping on, love the vids. Council tv is Bollocks!
Super content!
Thanks!
Great Job! 👏
Thank you! 😁
Thank you so much for this video! How much is the sealing kit and where can i buy one?
Great content.
Thanks
Excellent video Ricky….thats what we want to see 😀
Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you
Great technical video. Perhaps an explanation as to the various geared pumps on the shafts and chambers would be good (sorry if I missed that). More of this please.
Also good for the environment! Recycling parts, nicely done
👍🏼
great job
Thanks
Superb great watching a proper tech 😎😎😎😎😎🙌😁👍
Glad you enjoyed it thank you for watching.
Love the videos Rick and nice to see you thinking of the customers pocket rather than a quick fix! But please invest in some brass drifts, leave the claw hammer with the wooden pallets and as you mentioned it more than SOO that’s a parallel key not a woodruff 😂 keep up the good work!
A Pump a da pump pump lol love ur vids Champ
With a sharp chisel is the best way I’ve found, without bolloxxing the shaft. Honesty quote of the year, whilst fixing someone else’s ‘flaw’/screwup. (🦉 checked workshop Manuel)
Thanks for opinion on the GOAT in WEC.
Very nice video :)
Thank you very much!
I use a QTip sprayed with WD-40 to run around grooves like that to clear any bits/excess lube.
This is the stuff boys... tip top...the subs will come just keep doing what you do best 👌
Thank you.
Great repair job. Your customer should be very happy.
Thank you
Hi Kate 👋Nice one Ricky, in a throw away society that is a real life lesson in make do and mend using spares that have been collected over the years.
That customer will go away knowing that you have gone above and beyond to firstly save them money and secondly offer a repair that puts their car back to factory condition.
That kind of work puts the great in great train robbery…………….🤔 I think I got that last bit wrong 😂
I was already going to comment how similar modern oil pumps are to my early rover v8 but they even have the same priming issue. The original design was done in the 1950s!
Top tips for Woodruff keys. Emery paper on the curved side, just a little, a clean, then pliers with electric tape wrap to squeeze. 2 stroke crank experience. I dunae like bangin on the shaft. Well, not with a hammer.......
Another great video many thanks Rick
If you need woodruff keys we could make some for you
What is that hole there for ? Is it a pressure test point ? Never had an issue with helicoils IF fitted properly, never had one let go and you can buy short series one's, the ideal repair for that would have been a tinecert but still would have needed stripping to get the swarf out, not sure about twatting a woody with a piece of steel though 😂😂, good vid dude, welcome back 👍
That was mesmerising to watch 😊sat with a bacon 🥓 butty on a Saturday morning 👍
Glad you enjoyed it. Can’t beat a bacon butty 👍🏼
I would love to see how that oil pump woodruff key is fitted in the factory... I'm assuming some massive robot - as we can't slow the line down...
In Australia I used lanolin grease to lube pumps up.
Nice work 👍🥸
Thank you
Like the videos🤟🚖
Do you fill the pump with the same synthetic oil that is used in the car, or a similar weight / grade? or such a small amount does not really matter? Great technical video as usual.
Nice job on that. Surprised there wasn’t a bunch of shavings in the pump where they drilled and threaded for the insert.
They’ve vanished around the motor, unfortunately.
Great video as usual Ricky, but they are not 'Woodruff keys', they are 'Rounded end parallel keys'.
Really a fooking claw hammer in an engine builders workshop! Please Snap On get Ricky a proper hammer for the job 🙂
Also be careful interchanging pump parts across part numbers (9 different P/Ns, they some do differ.
Question for you .did you ever race 2strokes ? Had friends who raced TZR250 in 250 production category at North Gloucestershire MCC back in the day
Hi, i have the same problem. Where do you find the new housing and the o-rings?
The hole is an oil drain point at every service ,one of many I think
Ricky what do you do when the one way valves in the oil pump fails? Do you have anyone that can make to replace them? Or is it a new pump altogether?
Loads better watching you FBS
Enjoyed that, only downside is youve just shown the guy who cocked it up how to do it properly.
Any thoughts you'd like to share about the recent FortNine video on motorcycle body armour...?
I also would like to see this.
👌👌
Great video. However I know it’s a build video but using a builders claw hammer 😂
What was the total cost of the repair vs putting in a new pump?
Fitting the woodruff key - definitely a 'gloves off' job....
it just seems incredible that you can buy individual bits from a manufacturer. Not having a dig at audi as lots seems to do similar, but it seems crazy 😠
What’s cost for this oil pump fitting etc?
excellent need more people in the trade like you lot instead of the oooh! that'll cost ya gang
Ricky where did you get the new part from or is it a used section? I can imagine when the whole thing is £3800 plus the rob dog tax it'll not be cheap and quite like hens teeth! 👍
How come u dont get it welded up and redrill and tap ?
don't you lube the gears when re-assembling?
Do you have better part sources than we do in the US? It’s getting hard to find things here for 20 year old + cars.
At 15 quid a bolt, wouldn't you be better off and cheaper to use ARP?
