I have nothing but admiration for the skill you demonstrate with this kind of work. When I was growing up many years ago I was always told not to be a mechanic as it’s a brain dead job but I think you are showing with certain cars it is anything but and in fact you need to be just as precise as a brain surgeon! Keep up the great work and look forward to seeing you on the bike again soon no doubt it will be quicker after the rebuild
Absolutely superb, I could feel the frustration coming through the screen. Why on earth they designed it that way and then wrote such incomprehensible instructions is crazy.😁
Grit and paint under the cam covers, not turning smoothly when rotated without plugs in, missing /non-original fasteners, re-used gaskets? Run a mile before you get blamed for the inevitable failure.
Always love the content and the honesty guys 👍. This one brought back some nightmares. I had an engine a while back that I had more dials on it then Big Ben😂. The only thing I do if it’s been built elsewhere and if possible is a leak down pre and post had someone try to pull one over on me many years back. Keep up the good work guys 👍👍
I found ypur chanel through barham engines when he had his car serviced with you, ived watched every video you done since and some previous too, loved it more when I see you do bikes too and race them, bad misfortune last weekend though, sorry to hear just glad it wasn't worse mate, bike can be fixed you can't as easily, that enso engine I would of sent right back until it had been totally rebuilt and then timed it up, 4 hours to do two Wow.. I see trouble ahead for thst engine though sadly,, anyway keep up the great videos and the humor in rhe garage you all do a great job
After removing the cam covers and finding grit inside, I think the best course of action would have been to just stop and tell the customer to collect his engine ?
Cracking episode Ricky! So good to see how you problem solved with an engine you are not familiar with compared to the Lambo/Audi/ McLaren stuff you're expert at. For us amateurs any engine will involve many moments of perplexity so this is a good example of how to work through different issues.
Excellent video Ricky. My Ducati 1200 multistrada bit the same as in cam sprocket cut outs don't line up with head marks anymore. Like the old 996 . So you would have to dial gauge to time if you didn't lock up to change belts. Used to do the Vauxhall diesel back in 90s there system was good bolt on pointer for tdc . Then a plate bolted to cam carrier which you put in dial gauge set up. Then slide along plate to then measure valve lift. Adjustment on taper cam drive.
The bike content you put up is the best imo. Subscribed because of it but your car tech and rants are always great viewing. I came back to this video from your 'is TH-cam worth it' video. Whike scrolling though your list of uploads i noticed that your bike videos, on average, seem to get many more videos than your car content, maybe you should concentrate on them to build your subscriptions and views?
Ferrari specialist now , just like rs6’s 😂 Jesus I gave up trying to understand what you was explaining after 5 mins in , but I did watch till the end 👍
Luv this content too, Ricky. Does it have a coolant/oil cooler? My 360 does, luv to delete it in Australia. Warm enuff to heat up oil without using coolant.
Good (almost!) example of how to time cams. Unfortunately I have to time mine using peak cam lift, just that little bit more fun. Takes nearly a day on a quad cam.
Loved this video Ricky. Italians love to make stuff stupidly complicated. Why couldn't the white coats from the lab do all that work then write the manual for the workshop guys following a full 720° crank rotation method in the correct direction as the engine operates? You could still use dial guages to measure valve travel at a set crank position then adjust accordingly. Who turns engines backwards ffs?
Rick, love the video is it correct to say the millimetres from top dead center is the same thing as degrees used in bike engines. I done loads of oem chains and cams but iam afraid to touch the yoshi cams in my race bike. I get the valve lift but struggle with the degrees
As a semi professional dial gauge/clock/dti user I noticed it straight away and I’m watching videos upside down in New Zealand. I have used one thousands of times though. I actually had a look in the comments to see if someone else commented about it.
Soon as we discussed 'grit' & re-used gasket I thought it'd be going back - ... thanks, but no thanks. I wouldn't want to have wrenched on that before it goes bang ...just sayin'
I’ll set the timing correctly and advise it is stripped down for investigation. Now the timing is set they can just drop the cams off using the alignment markings on the caps.
@@REPerformanceUKMake sure you have that done in writing and somehow proof that they got the message. UK law is very protective of customers as you are well aware so you will want to cover your behind properly when working on things like this. This thing is going to have a lot of wear happening if it doesn't spectacularly has a catastrophic failure when it is started the first time with the sand pit that is now stuck inside.
Videos like this are what set you apart from your typical Maranello dealership outfit and many more garages who firstly would run a mile or say sure but 💯 client risk once we take a cam cover off. The whole factory instructions reads like a Kellogg cereal packet. If I was the owner I would want it stripped down and start from scratch… I hope he does not just parcel it up and sell it into the market because the next person is just buying a time bomb. Really really enjoyed the video content. you tube is becoming like email the tool that covers your arse.
I hadn't seen you misread the guage (Rez on my phone Vs my eyesight 😅), but had thought to myself, plenty of scope to get that measurement wrong with the needle spinning like that! - you NEED another digital guage, you do😉
Why don't they just give a full lift figure for the cams? I admit I am no expert but I have fitted a few fast road cam kits in my time and I have never seen cam timing instructions like those. Weird.
I imagine Ricky's response if the cameras had not been on would be something like "oh f@ck right off!" And that's after seeing the paint in the rocker lids, forget the rest of it! 😂
This must be a job coming from a very trustworthy source, who is well aware of the outcome or possible outcomes and in thr know about the quality of the build. Otherwise the business risk is astronomic...
This the type of video I like, pointing at cars in car park doesn't do it for me, looking forward to the rebuild video after you tell the customer it was assembled in a sand pit with reused gaskets
I THINK YOUR A BRAVE MAN TO TAKE THAT ON . I BET YOU WILL TIME IT UP . AND THEN THAY WILL BLOW IT UP AND BLAME YOU . FOR THE CRAP JOB THAY DID . HOPE YOUR NOT GOING YO GIVE ENEY WARRANTY ON IT

Spoiler Alert - in this episode Ricky throws a Ferrari engine into a skip before going on to create the first Audi powered 458.
One of Modena’s finest translations in that workshop manual. The look of bewilderment on your face is priceless.

Excellent episode. Confirmed so many of my fears in the logic of that manufacturers assembly !
Loved it, i respect the bike stuff you do, but between this and the oil pump you did! A feast to the eyes and ears :)
Great video, although the way that Ferrari workshop manual was written was giving me a headache!

What day do the binmen turn up? You boys are the best by a country mile, keep up the vids

Just watched Mat Armstrongs video of him timing up his f430,it looks the same engine
at 19:54 Benny Hill appears confuckeled lol Ricky again man thanks fer the smiles man.
You’re welcome. Thanks for watching
Another great vid team
Great video and really enjoying the variety of stuff you upload. Keep up the great work

I know right!!
the look of confusion on carl and rickys faces are pure comedy and needs to be on a tshirt haha
That takes some balls man, well played sir..
Thank you
Drive you nuts that one. Was there something else wrong with motor apart from timing?
Carls face when you reading the timing out loud 🤣🤣
Sorry to hear about your off.
Engine braking calibration?
No tyre not up to temp I think mate
I imagine Ricky's response if the cameras had not been on would be something like "oh f@ck right off!" And that's after seeing the paint in the rocker lids, forget the rest of it! 😂
You are awarded the golden spanner for that one. Keep it in a separate box because it will probably set itself alight.
is the F430 engine just as difficult?
Great video 👍🏻
Thanks 👍

I wonder if the original manual written in Italian would be easier to understand?
I was chuckling so much my tool fell out also! 😅
Sounds like the manual was written 'after lunch'. Not enough acqua minerale and too much 'grape juice'.
This is nerdy AF …. and I love it 😁🤓
Scary 😱 movie i definitely would give my car in your hands
This the type of video I like, pointing at cars in car park doesn't do it for me, looking forward to the rebuild video after you tell the customer it was assembled in a sand pit with reused gaskets
I was expecting his missus to correct us all via the comments 😆 on his performance haha
Well done for doing that one not easy. 😊
Hope you enjoyed if
You should do an episode, “Reading manuals with Ricky”.
This dudes like the cast of top gear in one man 😂
😂
You could have done everything wrong i wouldn’t have had a clue🤣
Are u gonna tell the owner about how notchy the engine is?
Hard to follow others on hopefully it will all be ok
Naughty Naughty.
Rick you're using power tools. Lol 😂
Can we ask who did the original work on that engine, so they can be avoided?
That looked a right pain to do doh
When setting Ferrari valve timing, make sure your tool doesn’t fall out 😜
The morphine in RE is palpable! Pump it up indeed!
We've all just witnessed Ricky's decent into madness
😂😂
Wow!!!! mega video.....
Thank you very much!
I’ve never liked or ever wanted a Ferrari this video just confirms why ! 👍🏻😳😂😂😂
Hi guys, been trying to get in contact about potential engine rebuild work
Hello, have you emailed as not received anything?
@@REPerformanceUK yeah sent one a couple of days ago, to the email address on your website

🙈🙈
This is just ridiculous process!!! Never seen anything like it - especially with the engine so notchy
That Ferrari tec not much use is he 😂😅

NOW WE'RE ON TO 3.24MM 1.76MM
WHAT IS GOING ON
@19:53 😂😂
😂
Is the answer too many Italian tune ups...🤨
Speak to Mat Armstrong and his Dad, Lol!😂
Hahahaha he would just tell me to ring myself for advice! 🤪
Jeez that engines a bit of a mess, shame as it deserves a proper rebuild.
Why does this engine feel like being handed a grenade with the pin pulled?
Jesus that's complicated
I'm an armchair mechanic and I can usually just about follow most procedures but I have to confess, I was completely lost with this one.
I want a feel the horse powers Carl t shirt
Fuck the haters you do a spot on job brilliant content
Thank you

No I’ll time it up and then advise the owner to look at everything again. Once timed they can drop the cams off using the alignment marks on the caps.
Sorry about your poor bike but you will put it right.
Thank you
i feel my brain getting bigger whilst watching these videos
🤓
Wowza
🙏🏼
Why can't they just give lift@TDC values for In & Ex. Bunch of gits.
Don't understand why you have a Ferrari trained mechanic on site, yet you are doing the timing yourself. Why?
Because I’m the star of the videos not Matt 😂😂😂😜😜
😂😂
