I’ve said it before, but I’m happy to say it again… Robbie does a great job of capturing the spirit of climbing. The OGs from the Valley of Yosemite, the French sport climbers, the German training revolutionaries, and other legends of the game would have loved to see content like this. The climbing channel community is a bit oversaturated with gym boulderers, and other forms of climbing don’t get great representation.
As a self proclaimed “gym boulderer” myself I do much prefer this kind of content. Robbie’s banter isn’t too bad (😜)and his philosophy on climbing is spot on…. Always look forward to his uploads.👏🏻🏴💪🏻
Such amazing story telling. This is the best kind of climbing as well. Thanks you for including all the dialogue and moments of hesitation, they are really what make the story. Such impressive climbing as well. 5/5 well done as always Robbie!
Thanks! You’re right too, I’ve found that the storytelling and atmosphere is given a lot more depth when I include those little moments in between the action… like the chat at belays, before the climb, the correspondence between climber and belayer, and even the words spoken to yourself as you climb. They are very important details :)
@@RobbiePhillips There is so much surrounding the actual climb that you are capturing, which is mostly what makes getting out into the wild so fun! Pure adventure and discovery!!

Big up the camerapersons for some of those shots - so gripped watching them. Absolutely stunning setting too. Guts'n'nuts in abundance to do this sort of thing. Huge hats off to you guys!

It's incredibly relatable and inspiring for climbers of all levels, as I (a real punter in comparison ;) ) can go out and have this kind of experience, too. Thanks for the lovely comment! I have always felt that for the most part, our experiences as climbers are mostly the same regardless of the grade attached to climbs. We all aim to go to cool places with our friends and try our best - and that’s just what I try to capture and share with these films.

Wow, I was anchored there at the beginning of June on a round Britain trip looking at that wall behind the hut thinking there must be routes up there, and now there are. It looked amazing.
It’s baffled me how underdeveloped this area is! I’ve done some new routing there too - one of which at Coir’ Uisg called Splendourfoot is worthwhile for those operating at the lower grades! Really enjoyed the vid, thanks!
It is amazing actually, because despite it feeling remote, it’s quite accessible via boat and with the JMCS hut it’s so easy to stay and explore and come back to a nice comfy bed every night :) Can’t wait to go back!

Cheeky wee insider filmmaker knowledge… Will was actually listening to WU-Tang Clan, and that’s what was heard on the mic… but obviously I don’t have copyright to WU-tang 😅 so I had to edit out the WU-tang and find something which sounded similar and put an edit on the audio track to make it sound like it came from his earphones. I almost didn’t put they wee bit in but I quite liked it 😅
It’s actually amazing how many tiny details there are in the filmmaking process. Would be fun to show people, but not sure how interesting for many it actually is
amazing routes and amazing place. one question though (which relates to most people doing hard routes these days) why not just pre place the gear? placing it 'on lead' and then down climbing making sure you don't weight the rope etc for a rest seems far more 'ethically' dubious than just pre placing and actually climbing it in a oner. Just my opinion of course.
Good question! I do agree it is a very weird ethic… it stems from the “no weighting the rope” approach and is a bit of a grey line I’d say. I heard a story of famous trad climber placing all the gear up to the final 3m during an Onsight, downclimbing to the ground, having their lunch, then sending the route 90% on top rope before finishing the final few metres in lead to claim a successful Onsight. Is this the same as leading from the ground in one go? Nope… but it still counts under the “rules of the game” we play and abide by in climbing. Does pre placing gear make more sense? I think not… that’s just sport climbing :)
This is how i spent the '80s: wandering up unclimbed faces, no bolt kit, no info, up to 5.12 and 22 pitches in the Pacific NW. '90s got a drill and the game changed....
