Your comparison is utterly stupid. Rolex watch is a high quality timepiece which is setting standards in the industry. It is literally the best value for money in the $7000-8000 range.
I've only ever shot raw with them, but all SLs have had good contrast and colour without any changes in post. They really need very little to be usable.
Yeah I dont get when people talk about having “color science”. Like if ure any close to being a profesional in the field youre shooting raw and editing. Youre gonna be applying your own presets of a style u like anyways. Very few people that own a Leica would just take a jpeg and post it as it is. I suppose if you do want to shoot jpeg without actually editing Fuji is the closest thing u can get to that.

The SL is the most beholden to the "could just get a Sony" argument, for sure. For many people, yeah, the Sony makes more sense. Can't change the fact that the SL is built *way better* and there is plenty of space for preference in both physical handling and working with the files.
As the owner of a rather large collection of cameras, including Nikon, Fuji film, Sony, canon, Hasselblad, and of course, Leica. Let me tell you, a Leica is not a camera for beginners. The only reason you should get a Leica is if you want to step up your photography game. They are not simple and intuitive, especially if you shoot SLR or analog (film photography). That said, they have amazing hardware and are some of the most capable cameras on the market. If it can be captured in a photo, a Leica can do it. You really just need to know what you’re doing with exposure, stops, framing, focus, etc. That’s why I don’t recommend them for beginners. If you’re ready to take amazing photos and know what you’re doing, by all means purchase one.

Umm... Electronic shutters have been quite shitty for quite some time, so your comment on that is wrong. Also, how the hell do you forget your camera buttons? Is it even your camera? I know mine by feel, I could never hit a wrong button in the dark

There are soooo many better options to buy for 2000€ that it never really is worth it. I worked in a camera store amd only two people buy leica's. Rich people who collect them, and rich people who can't photograph that good but like the prestige of a leica.
All Leica photographers I know suck at photography. They just mask it by saying it's artsy and a unique style of photography. And nearly all of them are afraid of color.
Plus, you get to bang on about owning a Leica endlessly in online forums. Meanwhile, the professional photographer with the Sony has bought your house.
I have a m240 and a 35mm ASPH Summicron lens. The lenses are the most expensive part of any Leica typically. Lucky for me I only shoot in 35mm on it for street photography. And after 5 years of using a range finder I'm not able to tell you exactly where 1-15 meters is. To within 1/10th of a meter. So it's actually making me a better electrician as I'm able to guess cable lengths etc
@@DeezBMemes my Sony ZV-E10 has fully customizable buttons. You even have separate pages for photo, video, and slow motion modes, so you can customize your buttons based on shooting mode. If you want custom button layouts but want them to stay the same between modes, just use “Follow Custom” and your video/slo mo modes will have the same custom layout as photo mode.

It is a good idea to rent both cameras for like 1-2 days with the same lens, try the menu and decide what you like more, personally i would go with sony because it is more affordable and you can put more lenses on it I am not a lot into video but just a photographer from the Netherlands but this is what i think about your situation

Get a Sony aNEX 7 secondhand for £250 you’ll hardly be able to tell the difference, though it’s an apsc sensor. I’ve used mine for 17 years .. no reason to part with it.

The sensor readout speed is fast enough to allow for 4k, full sensor readout at 10-bit for video, and the autofocus on the S1 is definitely going to be way better. If none of those things matter, the SL is fine... just expensive compared to other used cameras that also have the same features.

The Leica SL came out in late 2015, not 10 years ago yet. The A7R II and A7S II came out 9 years ago, GH4 was 10 years, and the Canon 1D C was over 11 years ago. These all shoot 4k video. The SL also does not record 4k with the entire sensor, only in APS-C crop, and with pretty limited dynamic range. Several stops worse than the A7R II which was released around the same time, a camera which had better autofocus, was higher resolution, did full width 4k, and had IBIS.
Leica isn’t close to Nikon build quality and endurance. Back in film days my Leica R4S motor drive broke in 50 rolls of film. The Nikon F3 motor NEVER BROKE. Getting parts and service for Leica does not exist.
The specs aren't that good, especially for the price. The build quality is good but the shape and texture make the Leica feel like a toy, albeit a heavy one. Colors, lense selection, "build quality" and prestige/snobbiness are the only reasons to buy Leica imo.
It goes for around 1400-1500 nowadays if you're lucky on the marketplace, as a stills camera it's an absolute steal, the colour science and image quality is unreal. Especially in the studio, it even has a PC sync port.
Best way to make money as a photograhper? Sell your gear.

2000$ for a body is not expensive until you have to buy a 3000$ lens to pair with it, whop I forgot Sigma has L mount 2😅
You can use the Sigmas L mount with this. And now Sigma released the 50mm f1.2 and the 28-45mm f1.8. Those are amazing lenses.
You can also use all Lumix L (pro) lenses on it too.

I bought an SL a little over a year ago and love it. The EVF is brilliant it makes it very hard to go back to my M8 and M9

I went from a SL3 to an A7RV. I can honestly say that I prefer my Sony any day.... Especially when basic kit native lenses are 3k plus for L mount.

The specs aren't that good, especially for the price. The build quality is good but the shape and texture make the Leica feel like a toy, albeit a heavy one. Colors, lense selection, "build quality" and prestige/snobbiness are the only reasons to buy Leica imo.
It goes for around 1400-1500 nowadays if you're lucky on the marketplace, as a stills camera it's an absolute steal, the colour science and image quality is unreal. Especially in the studio, it even has a PC sync port.
