    My Samsung fridge and freezer stopped working. This is how I did a DIY diagnosis and repair. I narrowed down the problem to the inverter board which I replaced. Total cost of the repair was $125. Part replacement time: 10min. Tools Required: Phillips screwdriver.
    The original PCB inverter had item# DA41-00411A printed on it, but it has been discontinued. No one sells it.

    The original PCB inverter item# DA41-00411A has been discontinued.
    The updated part is sold on amazon for about $125 amzn.to/3m7wl7h
    Click on the amazon link, and enter your refrigerator's model number in the "Make sure this fits" box at the top of the page to verify you have the correct part for your particular fridge.

      Oh and to add Unique repair in Illinois near Chicago is a joke of a company and i care not who knows this process is totally unacceptable esp if the customer is not satisfied with the service or level of attempt to fix said appliances.

      Look at the label on the two big capacitors on your board. Mine is the same as in this video which is 06DA4100404D but use only DA41-00404D. Then, look it up on ebay. There are several vendors selling this board (used but good condition). By the way, the DA41-00404D are compatible with DA41-00404E and I think DA41-00404H. Make sure the two big capacitors on the board are the same type as on your old board. Mine are the same as in this video which are 200v 820 micro Fara (M). Also, make sure the fuse on the board you buy is good.

    My fridge had the same error code, validated the part# purchased it at my local appliance parts store.
    Followed the video and had it fixed in a couple of hours. My wife cleaned up behind the fridge while I went and got the part. Easy installation and up and running in no time.
    I am curious to see if my ice cube maker will work better after 10 years. I will post an update later on.
    Thank you Thrifty Tani for an excellent video on a DIY project.

    This video has been very useful, but like many others on here the actual symptoms I was experiencing were a bit different. My freezer and fridge would "work" but the temps were swinging wildly. I spent a LOT of time trying to find a vid or article describing my scenario, but most were about things mostly just stopping working/cooling. On mine, after some power issues (storm related, dips and surges) I noticed frost on items in freezer, ice cube production decreased, and things just not cold enough in fridge section. At power up, I would get what seemed to be 88 8E errors on front panel, but it really looked like it was cycling between multiple errors. Doing a reset on the front panel always cleared them up. Th LED on the inverter control board would be lit solid, though I did find it blinking a single blink one time after much testing/exploration. There were no obvious burned or blackened components. Cleaned coils, removed all from same power circuit, etc. and seemed a little better. But came down one morning after not really using it or opening it for 12-18 hours to find ice melting out of the ice maker.
    Searched around and found a new, old stock DA41-00411A and bought it from a local appliance parts store. ~$150. Replaced it and bam! Working like a champ for more than a week now. Freezer and fridge temps stable. (I bought remote monitors earlier when going through all this.)
    Thought I'd post this for others who might be experiencing similar symptoms but unsure about replacing the Inverter Control Board. Worked for me.

    I bought this fridge new 9 years ago, I wasn't completely convinced this would work. So I did a multi-meter "samsung compressor" OHM test ( youtube googled it) which resulted in 10 10 10 which means the windings are probably still good in the compressor. I figured if I could find a Board with Amazon as the vendor, I could easily return it if necessary. Next I bought my circuit board on Amazon Warehouse Deals for 95$, shipped via 2 days Prime Shipping, installed and my fridge is cool again! Woot! Thanks so much, you're the best Thrifty Tani!

    My M-i-L has the exact same model refrigerator, with the exact same symptoms, the exact same discontinued inverter board, and I did get the exact same part from Amazon (eventually), and it DID fix the problem!!! YAY!!! My Father-in-Law was preparing to drop $2K to replace it, and I told him that it might be repairable, but he said he was going to replace it anyway, because it was getting old...
    Now that it's running again, they've decided that perhaps they can just keep using it and get a surge protector for it to prevent future problems. Thanks for the video and the very useful information!

    ALCON, The video shown is very good. I ordered the part from Amazon and just replaced it myself and I am appalled that I don't have to pay someone to fix it. Just pay attention to the warnings and the blinking lights what the problem could be. After removing the old part, the back part of the PCB board is burned out. I could not see it from the front till I removed it.
    This actually helps with all the YT vids out there.

I noticed the ice had melted in the ice bin but had frozen back into a solid block. The fridge would work fine for a week or so then I would find it with the freezer and fridge areas warm again. @@thriftytani46 So, I got the part installed and I thought maybe that I got a bad part or something else was wrong. Once plugged up I noticed that the display was showing 88 8-with a backwards 9, meaning the R-1 display of c (with a circle) showing it to have a Defrost Sensor system in FF compartment error. Also no red light on the PCB board and no evap fan. Later on the display cleared from any errors and that is when I installed the old PCB back in to see if it would still at least show a blinking red light which it did not until about another 5 mins. That told me I needed to add the new PCB back in and wait. After about 5 minutes, I heard the fan and compressor kick on and a solid red light.

    Just wanted to say thanks for saving me $2500 on buying a new refrigerator. I was so excited to find your video that perfectly described our exact situation. However, going to your link revealed that the updated part appears to not be in production at this time. My heart sank. However a remanufactured part on Amazon listed as DA92-00047A kept popping up when I searched the DA41-00614F. After closely inspecting pictures of both parts I bought it hoping that it would work. Make sure the the two big capacitors on the board are the same type as on your old board. Mine are the same as in this video which are 200v 820 micro Fara (M). Also, make sure the fuse on the board you buy is good.

    • @thriftytani46
      @thriftytani46  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Poljana! I’m glad it started working again! If the led is solid, I doubt it’s the inverter. It’s possible that the main board is acting glitchy, but it seems when either board goes out, it’ll consistently not work. It’s possible ice was blocking the cooling fan/ducts etc. if it happens again, try unplugging it for several second and plug it back in to reset the computer system. (If you know where your circuit breaker box is in the house, it’ll be easier to cut the power there instead of pulling the fridge away from the wall to get to the plug)

      Hi Mark, it would be unusual to have all the Freon leak out. You can plug it in, let it run for a while then unplug it. Listen for a bubbling sound coming from the compressor/coils area. If you do then you probably have at least some Freon to cool the fridge. Icing could also be another problem. Make sure the fans and interior cooling coils have aren’t iced up.

      Hey Dan, sorry to hear about the fridge, if you saw the main board spark, I’m thinking it would have to be replaced. Repairing components on a circuit board is difficult. At this point your fridge is probably around 9 years old and is the cost of hiring someone to repair it worth it? I’m guessing he’ll need to order the part and it’ll take at least a few days to get and install. I’ve been looking at the Lowe’s thanksgiving ad, and they have huge discounts on fridges. Painfully it might be better to cut your losses and get a new fridge that you won’t have to worry about for several years. My fridge is still working, but I’m worried about when the next part will conk out at an in opportune time.

      @@thriftytani46 Thank you. You know, I tried turning the fridge back on using a different outlet. It worked, however in a few seconds the the button on the outlet sprung out and that turned off the fridge again. So, I am thinking we may have a problem with the wiring of our outlets. However, the fridge may still be problematic because at the time when it was running, the light on our brand new inverter blinked 5 times again. So, according to this video (rather according to the table that you so kindly included in the video around 3:20), we may need to have the compressor replaced.

    • @thriftytani46
      @thriftytani46  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm. If it turned on for a few seconds and the ground fault circuit interrupter button popped out, there must be a grounding problem. To narrow it down to this problem, would you be able to use an extension cord to plug the fridge into a outlet without a gfci protection button? Usually the outlets away from wet areas won’t have GFCI protection. If the fridge does stay on and work, I’d unplug it, so you can check for possibly a loose grounding wiring.

      Legally, all appliances that contain freon/refrigerant below a certain size are required to be sealed at the factory with no service fittings - it's an EPA regulation, because it was decided that there was a greater risk of freon leaking out of service fittings, than the appliances actually leaking.
      It made small appliances more reliable with less leaks, but more expensive to service, because the service valves would need to be installed in the field (which is legal), but by a licensed HVAC technician with freon recovery equipment to collect any leaking refrigerant. Most general handymen/repair techs won't have the specialized gear or knowledge to tackle this job either.
      If the compressor does go, that's when a repair will require installing the valves to recover the used refrigerant and oil, cut the lines, and replace the compressor (and dryer too any time the lines have been opened!), and although samsungparts.com will sell me a replacement compressor for only $165 and I can get a dryer for $50, I'd still have to get a service call to recover the old refrigerant, and be willing to braze the replacement parts lines with the old system. Then there's the process of leak testing with pressurized nitrogen, and vacuuming the system down before charging it...
      Anytime one of the parts fails that is part of the refrigerant loop, it will require pretty much the same processes, so if a condenser or evaporator goes bad/gets damaged, the system will still need service valves installed, and recovery/replacement/leak testing/charging to repair.
      To the OP, thanks for this video, I'm going to hope & pray that it fixes my problem of no cool & 5 flashing lights, but it will take a few days to get the part if I'm lucky. If I'm unlucky, the compressor has failed too... :-(
