The song phoenix is about overcoming your inner demons.
The 3 players are represented by champions they failed on, HARD.
Doesn't imply they're bad on the champ but in a key moment they failed on it.
Mentally it must be hard for some to go back to that champ in key moments, knowing what happened last time.
Get over it, rise as a phoenix.
The final took place in France that's why the announcer is speaking French. The flag the guy in the middle was wearing is the Croatian flag. The other players are Danish, Polish and Slovenian. So it's Europe Vs China.
There's a bit of a backstory to the Phoenix Video, revolving around the 3 professional players and the internal pressures they were facing coming into Worlds 2019.
1st guy on the train is Song "Rookie" Eui-jin, a Korean player who in 2015 was in his first year playing for a Chinese team called Invictus Gaming (iG). They made it to Worlds 2015, in what was considered a fairly easy bracket but horribly under performed and were knocked out early in the group stage despite Rookie's individual brilliance on Lissandra (the champion that he is depicted with in the video, she's the one with the white braid and the hat with the 'horns'). iG got a lot of hate from the Chinese fans at the time, and Rookie himself nor a Chinese team wouldn't make another appearance at Worlds until 2018 where iG and Rookie managed to win the World Championship that year. Since Phoenix is the 2019 Worlds video, Rookie is basically the reigning champ but knows there are alot of players gunning for him.
2nd guy at the computer desk is Rasmus "caPs" Borregaard Winther, a Danish player playing at the time on a European team called Fnatic (FNC). FNC made it to the Worlds 2018 Final, but lost 3-0 to iG, with caPs having a un-characteristic shocker of a game on Irelia (she's the 'blade-dancer' champion, who was in the Awaken video, and was considered one of caPs best champions). He had alot to prove coming into Worlds 2019, given his failure the previous year.
3rd guy at the press conference is Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok, a Korean player on a Korean team called SKT. He is widely regarded as the greatest League of Legends pro player of all time, and is basically the Michael Jordan of League. Coming into the 2017 Worlds, he had 3 Worlds titles already on his belt (2013, 2015 and 2016) as well as dozens of other tournament wins. However SKT were down 2-0 going into game 3, and Faker (who was playing Karma in that game - she's the short haired woman with the green magic in the Phoenix video) got caught out of position and killed at a critical point in the game which lead to a 3-0 loss in the finals - the first time SKT had been defeated at a Worlds Finals. Faker had played his heart out that tournament, basically pulling his team single handedly into the finals and he took the loss very hard. SKT failed to make the following years Worlds 2018 (the first time they had failed to qualify since 2014), so coming into Worlds 2019 there was a lot of media attention on both him and SKT and how they would perform in their comeback.
caPs was also in G2 in 2019. But they still lost 3-0 to FPX

They used the best hologram technology in the world to make this Opening Ceremony. In my opinion it is the best Opening Ceremony, Riot has ever done.

BY FAR. We hope this year they finally get to do something at this level, sadly pandemic did hurt for 2020 a lot, and they kinda got it with 2021. BUT, the best way to make a ceremony, is this, live with the public screaming.

is it done well by riot? yes. is it old tech? yes. no need to be hostile.

Pudgey would LOVE watching a short docu on how they made this opening ceremony called "10 months 10 minutes" on youtube, the work and the passion behind the opening ceremonies is always outstanding but they went all in on this. Definitely recommend it
I totally understand where pudgey is coming from, I just saw Rufus du Sol in June and man did I cry. It was such an amazing experience!!!
I find myself going back and watching all the performances again just so I could relive it haha.

If there's one thing I miss more than anything because of COVID is constantly going to live performances. They're an experience you never forget.
To explain the performance they have a net called a Holo-Net underneath the giant screen around the entire stage that they project holograms onto. Some of the holograms are the characters and some are the actual artist. Which is how you get those really dope teleport effects xp
I relate to Pudgey so much, because I also respond to any swell of emotion with tears. It's totally normal, so don't be embarrassed!

If you really want to know how this was put together, they released a video called "10 months 10 minutes", you should totally check it out! It's about how it took them 10 months to prepare for this 10 minute opening ceremony. The amount of effort that went into it WILL make you tear up haha great content as usual, thumbs up

I did the same Pudgey, when i was watching the stream and the finals i started crying because seeing the boys there receiving all the honors for their efforts, days spent training and planning to be champions, touched me a lot. Please react others Worlds openings and CBLOL Final Opening too, Riot Brazil (mt country btw) did an amazing job on our opening. CBLOL 2017 and 2019 are amazing.
I've watched every opening ceremony livestream since 2018 and I can say for sure 2019 opening ceremony was the best for sure, I also almost cried there
when i see other ppl overcome or achieve something it gets me teary eyed too. even seeing others react the same way i did makes me wanna do it again
As someone who's been to a few TI's (The DOTA version of this) I can confirm these shows are as hype as they look on screen. There's a bigger buzz around this than most sporting events Ive ever been to.
23:35 Yes they play on the stage and the screen that's behind them shows the gameplay. Everyone cheers etc when a good play is made and it's got a pretty good atmosphere.
I can relate to tearing up at this honestly. The first time I saw this performance I got emotional because when I grew up being a "gamer" (even though that term wasn't really around yet) would often times get you outcasted and labeled/bullied. Seeing this made me so happy for the newer generations that can have this hobby, turn it into something real and be respected and loved like these players were. Gaming went from being a hobby for people considered weird or anti-social and it turned into something like this. It really is pretty amazing
I've actually seen other reactors also cry to this opening, reactors who are not even League of Legends players or fans. Really speaks to how amazing this opening was. As a hardcore league fan and player it makes me cry almost every time. 😂
Just to clarify, (3 months late oops), Worlds is a tournament taking place every year, this involves up to 3 teams for each *main* league (example being North America, Europe, China, South Korea) and other leagues globally ranging from Japan to Latin America, Vietnam etc etc.
The trophies both teams are holding are because they are both champions of their home League, FPX being LPL (China) champions, G2 being LEC (EU LCS back then I think) champions, which is Europe
Dude xd who tf didnt cried watching this. Was kinda awkward we (the boys and me) got a big festival for that championship finale and we (over 12 guys) literally all bursted into tears seing this. Its just amazing to imagine how much love and effort just went into a 10Minute presentation. AND Humanity hadnt seen anything like that to this point.
I was pretty proud on the hundreds of euros i payed to buy Riot Points in League of Legends. Worth investment xD

The crowd is 100x louder than over the screen. And the finals is 100x the magnitude. You can legit feel the pressure and the stadium will legit shake.
I watched this entire event live! They have a history with big budget opening ceremonies and performances at WORLDS and this one was one of the better ones they have done in my opinion. Pheonix is a great song and the backstory makes it so fitting for this situation but one of the best songs Riot has commissioned has to be a song called "Rise". If you get a chance you should 100% react to that music video, it's really well done!
Phoenix is one of their music videos that is amazingly powerful for me. As someone who has struggled for most of my life with self-doubts, especially in the face of pressure from others... it is very much a call-to-action song for me.

We got you lady, at least by myself when i watch the worlds, the scenario, the people, the production, it feels something amazing, i really love to wacth T1 and Faker play this game, the day that he loses the worlds i literally cry with him.

I tear up at every league season I witness live.
The Tournament was in Paris. There were 29,000 in physical attendance. The teams playing were Chinese FPX and European G2 Esports. There were something like 90 million concurrent live streams. The light show was possible due to thin transparent holographic screens that was set around the stage in all directions.
in 2021 - League of Legends World Championship pulled in around 100million concurrent views. For context, the Superbowl the same year pulled in something like 119 million.
League of Legends World Championships is the Single Largest Esports Production with the most viewership in the world.
The championships normally take place over two months in 2 to 3 cities across the world. Every team present at the worlds tournament is a team that competed in their local region and got top 1-3 seed in their region. Each region has about 10 teams that play 2-3 month long Regional championships in Spring and Summer. The Winners advance to the world tournament held in September/October.
Players on these teams can make anywhere from a few 100k to millions. A Year or two ago a player was traded from EU to NA for a 3 year contract for over $6 million USD.

I highly recommend watching the 2018, 2021 Worlds Championships. (2020 is okay but it was affected by the pandemic and it's production quality suffered).

It's hard to describe how insane the atmosphere is for these world finals matches. It's the biggest esports stage in the world at this point. For many of those players, it is THE defining moment of their career. Most who fail there end up dropping from the scene or losing all their motivation to go back. It's a VERY high pressure environment. These are teams worth tens to hundreds of millions of dollars each, with massive sponsorships. There's a lot on the line for them - and then there's regional pressure as well, since each team represents one of the major game regions (NA, Korea, China, Europe, etc) and have tons of fans behind them.
I was there live, it was amazing and the effect looked more real in real life
Honestly pudgey, crying as awkward as it may feel isn’t a bad thing. It’s part of what makes good reactors good. The fact that you are willing to be open with your emotions is what makes it your reaction authentic and genuine. But as I said don’t feel bad, I literally can’t count the number of reactors who cried watching this opening ceremony. There’s so much passion and hard work that goes into these opening ceremonies and it’s all dedicated to the players. I don’t have the words to describe what it exactly is that is so endearing about these shows but yeah I had some happy tears myself. So yeah, being vulnerable in front of others is scary but don’t let that stop you from being yourself!
And yeah On the long list I gave you I left a note about the tech they used for this show. They use a thin, transparent screen which surrounds the stage. Then they use specially made holo-projectors to display the other half of the image onto the screens. The top part is still a regular screen. But that’s how they were able to make it look like there was some crazy stuff going on stage. In their documentary about how they made the show they explain that at the time this technology was still very new and that no one had done something on this big of a scale. It’s pretty crazy how they managed to make it all work!
Yes, that was Ekko and yes, that was Kiki Palmer. The short Korean Blonde is SoYeon from G-(I)dle. She voices Akali in the K/DA music and in "True Damage". SoYeon has an amazing story in Kpop. G-(I)dle makes great music and is touring in America right now.

18:25 They once sold out Madison Square Garden so yes they do get big crowds. The crowds are usually pretty big and atmosphere is crazy.

The theme was phoenix and one of the finalist was called Fun Plus Phoenix.. they were just destined to win that trophy that year.

edit: awww. Pudgey felt all the emotions of the struggle of fighting for the Cup, and the taste of victory. It's not embarrassing. It's what the Producers were trying to create and you got the message ^~^

To explain the lights, it's basically a mess that they've hung around the stage. You light the performers on stage very well and keep the rest of the stadium dark, you can see the performers trough it. But at the same time they can project images onto the mesh. It's like hanging a transparent movie screen around the stage.

To answer ur questions about the trophies, each region got their own league like in soccer(football) the trophy of FunPlus Pheonix was the Chinese league summer trophy of the LPL. Their are 2 times in a year that the best Teams of each league Qualifie and battle each other for an International trophy.
1st International Trophy of the year is in Spring named MSI ( Mid Season Inventational Trophy = more like a Champions League Trophy) Where just the Numbre 1 Teams of each League compete for ( that by the way was won by G2 esports they also won Spring and Summer Split in europe so at this point they could do a Hattrick with the World cup)
2nd International Trophy called Summoners Cup (this cup is like The worldcup in soccer ( The Domenating regions that won most and got the best spot the past years are setting thier top 4 teams up to worlds less domenating and less bigger regoins just get 3 2 or 1 spot for this cup.
I cried too, I coulnd go to worlds that year and my team was in finals so I was soo heartbroken, and I cried watching this live on my birthday ;-;

Not only in prize money but also in production value. There isn't many games that even come close.
Well... I was there in 2015, when the finals took place in Berlin (made the trip from Switzerland with a few friends). The opening ceremony was nowhere as good as that one but the atmosphere was just awsome! And unlike soccer, you don't really have people rooting for a team or for the other: everyone is there to enjoy a great show of skill! The finals are played (or were, at least) in 3 to 5 games: first team achieving 3 victories was the champion! After SKT won the 1st game, I remember we were all rooting for the other team because we wanted to enjoy all 5 games (but SKT was just too damn good and they won 3-0 against the Koo Tigers).
I'd love to go watch it again... maybe next time it takes place in Europe ;).

League of Legends is played competitively worldwide and features players and teams from a ton of different countries. The 4 major regions are Europe, North America, China, and South Korea, and they compete in their own domestic Leagues for the right to qualify for Worlds, sending at least three teams each. There are also representatives from other smaller regions who send either one or two teams to Worlds. Worlds is held in one of the four major regions every year on a rotation.
Typically, the finals usually features eastern teams from either Korea or China, but in this year, G2 represented Europe and made it to the finals the same year they were holding Worlds in Europe. This show happened in Paris, which is why you could see the fans there going crazy for the European team.
Both G2, the European team, and Fun Plus Phoenix, the Chinese team, won the championships in their home regions that year to qualify for Worlds, so the trophies they're holding are the domestic trophies they won.
I feel that. Phoenix makes me cries too.
So the left team was from the chinese region and the right team from the european region. The Finals were hosted in Paris, hence there were a lot of european fans. The teams are not bound to specific countries, just to their regions but china essentially has their own region because its so big. The flag was croatia which is just the home country of that specific player.
The Phoenix video and song is based on the premise of rebirth and conquering past demons and failures

The teams also live in a house together payed by the organisation training and preparing all the time with their coaches.
So they become like a family really and get really close it's a very serious thing because of the money team organisations put into it.
If you win Worlds you can take home a prize of 1 million+ easily if not more depending on which year it was obviously when it started out it was less.
this is as full on as it can be, there are multiple leagues around the globe with as much as 17 teams(chinese league) in it. These players are making millions every year from their salary, most of them have been playing the game for half their age already. This is no childs play, one doesnt simply pick up a mouse and keyboard and end-up in worlds finals, this is the 0,0000000001% and they have dedicated their whole lives for this one chance. They have everything a normal sports team would have, training facilities, coaching staff, psychologists, nutricionists, personal chefs, personal trainers, anything u can imagine they have they probably do. they are celebrities, they are sponsored by the biggest brands and so the pressure is on, it is always on but if u win worlds ur name will be forever remembered. this is peak gaming, this is peak esports, this is peak sports, this is league of legends
I haven't seen anyone explaining the different trophies so I'll do my best. Pro League is separated into regions - North America is the LCS, Europe is the LEC, China is the LPL, Korea is the LCK, and so on. FPX (FunPlus Pheonix) is the Chinese team who won in the LPL, and G2 is the team who won in the LEC, so they each have their own trophies. Of course they also have to play against the winners of the other regions during play-ins, but these two are the teams who won.

Coincidentally, the winner of that year's Worlds is named FPX or FunPlus Phoenix.
I feel like it's a "dammit...as hard as I'm trying not to, I like you". The early stages of coming out of grief over a failed relationship and learning to be fine alone, you meet someone that moves you. It's a mixed bag of feelings.
@Spartan @ Pudgey the Trophys both teams had is the Trophy from the Summer Split. G2 and FPX both won the Summer Split 2019 on they hometown League. For "G2" the League called LEC ( League of Legends European Championship) and "FPX" won the Summer Split of LPL called (League of Legends Pro League) China.
Its not a first time i see someone cry because of this vid. I think its kind of proud sentiment i guess ? I fell this way i guess.

20:25 that's a Croatian flag. The player, Perkz, is Croatian. Actually from the same city as me hah. We're from a small country and sports are pretty important here so players are usually very proud of their nationality when they get to participate in these big international events, so sometimes they show off the flag.
As a 10 year LoL fan and player from Europe, watching this INCREDIBLE ceremony is SO bittersweet knowing our bois got crushed by fucking Nautilis mid NotLikeThis

The phoenix did rised that year since that team had phoenix in its name that made it more epic TBH, the league music videos are incredible , LoL has 3 music bands, KDA (extremely popular) , True damage and Pentakill(the first one and really great metal songs even taking top spot at apple music in the genre), the Three of them having different music genres, you should react to more league music.

my favorite part is that the music video was all about established players picking themselves up and rising from the dust, and yet in the end the winner of the whole tournament ended up being a bunch of newcomers on a team called funplus phoenix. Very oddly poetic.

Exactly, and some of the teams (specially asians) have up to 12 players, considering only 5 get to play on a regular basis that's a lot of players!

Fun Plus Phoenix won that final... very sad for us Europeans. Their trophy was from the chinese national league, G2's trophy was from the mid season invitational. So given that they had already won an international tournament that year, they were actually favourites which is rare for European teams.
There is also 2017 Opening, it is WILD, by the least.

This world 2019 was played in France, I think next one in 2022 will be played in North America if I remember correctly. Probably in the US but I could be wrong about that.
