Finally I figured out how to get my spdif input into my DAW after watching this. Channels 17-18! Love your style with the puppet, keep shipping videos and thank you sir!
Do you have to actually route your audio back into your interface using a physical SPDIF cable? I am looking in my DAW and seeing channels 17/18 but they are not titled SPDIF
I would like more clarity on how to use the SPDIF as another Main/Master in my DAW. I loved the way you showed it working. I can't figure out how to set it up though. I get no signal on my SPDIF. . .
As a newbie to UAD plug-ins, I was about to ask how to get a UAD Console Insert'ed effect recorded into my DAW. I could hear the reverb in my headphones while recording through a mic, but when I played it back, the UAD reverb insert was not recorded, only the dry vocal from the mic was recorded. Then I stumbled into the answer myself: Over on the right hand side of the Console window, just enable the INSERT EFFECTS section's UAD REC button before recording. Pretty simple. Note, my mic is connected to my Apollo Twin's MIC CH2 (ANALOG 2 on the Console screen), and my headphones are connected to the same Apollo Twin's headphone jack.
yeah, when it's on UAD MON (monitor), you can only hear the effects that you put into uad console but it will not be recorded into your actual daw. when you have it on UAD REC (record) it will then actually record your effects into the daw
@@gilydoesall yes, one must know the difference between the two. The REC and the MON are clear enough, but a newbie like me is overwhelmed with a lot of other stuff on screen. Overthinking it, lesson learned.
Hello, GREAT VIDEO! Thanks so much. I jut got a Burl B2 and I wanted to ask how I would hook up the B2 ADC into my Apollo X8P so that I can mix and listen to the out put of the B2? My normal chain and bouncing option is straight from my Apollo X8P to hard disk via off-line bounce. I use Ableton Live as you do. Can you tell me how the out/in on tracks & master should be set? So far heres what Ive done so far: * Clocked the Apollo to the Burl with word clock BNC (Master) * Routed output 7/8 from Apollo to analog in on BURL * Burl TOSS out to Apollo ADAT in 1 (changed Digital input in console matrix from ADAT to SPIDF) This is where Im stuck! Id like to listen to theB2 while producing/mixing. I would also like to track thru BURL while recording vocals. Im thinking of putting the the BURL and the Apollo out 7/8 on to a patch-bay. So I can accomplish this. Thanks in advance
That was great man. Cool puppet too. Wondering if we can either simultaneously send to both sets of "speakers" or if we can route the line out signal simultaneously to our 3/4 out... I'm trying to send a signal separately to my subwoofer while only using the one volume knob. Otherwise that was fun and helpful. Thanks.
I think you miss the point of the Unison preamps. You want the subtle sound of whatever preamp you decide to use. If you use it as a plug-in later in the mix it’s definitely not the same. As an example if I wanted the sound of Neve 1073’s on my recording I personally would record every instrument and vocal with 1073’s through Unison to get closest to the character of Neve channel strips.
What's the signal chain on this? No way you are inputting an SM-7B (which requires a nuclear ractor to push the 300Ohms) directly into the line input. What am I missing? Thanks!
I just got a new machine and finally going to use my Apollo twin usb and console the way it was intended. Good video, I subbed because Im sure Ill need more help soon, lol
i run UA apollo's X6,8 & Twin ...on the Twin I use the ALT button to switch from Monitors to Cubes, but It's not the Last of the Daisy Chain, I have it on the Desktop...way faster to click on TALK BACK when Tracking Muscians & Vocalist in Booths rather than switching screens fro DAW to Console 2.0.
I have the same x8 and console but i don't see the ALT button. I also don't have the built in low cut button next to phantom power. I wonder if there is an update on the console that I am missing.
Is the S/PDIF loop an actual physical cable loop? Meaning does your computer output S/PDIF, then you run it through an optical cable and then back through the UAD?
I need help when I mix with my dad plug ins it causes my audio to slow up but when I use my waves plugins I don't have that issue where my vocals become slowed up out of key with the song
Very good video! Question: How would I send a stereo track (like a reference track) in Pro Tools to my monitors with the AES/EBU output of my Apollo X16? Pro tools shows the output on its meter, but nothing registers on the X16. I can do this easily with my RME interfaces and Totalmix (RME's console app., if you are not familiar with it). Can't find a way to do this even with Console.
Hi. Do you use the SM7b to record vocals? I’m looking for a good mic in the $500 range for recording vocals with Apollo solo but there are so many options. Being a dynamic mic does the Apollo preamp have sufficient gain? Thank you.
Hey there, great tutorial. Learnt a lot, I have an Apollo X8. I'm just confused about recording through analogs 5-8, as they don't have an input on the console? Feel like I'm being very thick but can only seem to have 4 things (usually 2 stereo inputs) when surely I should have 8, so either 4 stereos or even 8 mono recordings of separate hardware. Any help would be great! Just subscribed.
The 5-8 are line inputs only they are the 1/4” jacks on the back of the unit. The first 4 can be XLR inputs or line inputs. On the back of the unit there are 4 XLR inputs and these correspond to inputs 1-4 on the console. There are also 8 1/4” inputs and these correspond to inputs 1-8 in console. You cannot use both the XLR and the 1/4” jacks on inputs 1-4 at the same time. You have to choose which kind of input you are using. So on the back in the input section use the 1/4” inputs 5-8 to access input channels 5-8 in console. Hope this helps
Does anyone know how I can route my guitar on my Apollo Twin to channel 2 like Reid did here? I usually use my mic in channel 1 but I’d like to plug my guitar through the front of the Apollo but route that input to channel 2, just like Reid. Do I right click channel 2 in console to assign the input of my guitar to it? So far, I could only figure out how to route my guitar to channel 1. I’d like to get it on channel 2, while still using the guitar input on Apollo twin.🎸 Any help is very much appreciated! Thanks
At the back of my Apollo i can connect 2 microphones but i only see one input (one channel strip). To change between mic and instrument, i need to swap the cables on the back. Why don't i see more than one input ? Anyone ? Please ?
Appreciate the tutorial. Good work. No offense, but it stood out to me that you must not be aware that your vocal signal is way distorted and you are compressing the crap out of it on that 1176. (much less you having mentioned "Parallel compression" as if you are doing it even more) The meter that appeared on the plug in shown is reading gain Reduction, not as a VU meter. It reads from right to left in that case and should not be going much more than even half way back for a decent vocal limiting on an 1176. You have it beyond "pegged". Normally just slight limiting is best in recording because you can't remove it if you overdo it and you can always add more in a mix. Yes, I'm aware you said you are only monitoring it and that's a good thing, but this glaring issue is worth a little tutorial on compressor limiters as sometimes, just a touch of it and/or a good preamp model would be worth recording on the take.

You just changed my life! You have no idea! Thank you for making this so simple!~
U can sync the tempo of the delay for example with the tempo in the UAD Console, it will sync then automatically :)
how?
@@HEYSERGYO all the way on the bottom left! You can set the BPM! And your delay etc will sync automatically to the tempo.

Why you don't use the Apollo preamp? In the channel 1 I see 0db preamp. Do you prefer the Manley vox to amplifier the mic?
I have the same x8 and console but i don't see the ALT button. I also don't have the built in low cut button next to phantom power. I wonder if there is an update on the console that I am missing.
I still don’t understand the in and out setup in console’s preferences. Could you explain?
Has "commitment issues" with Unison plugins. - Records through outboard gear.... 🤣💀
LOOOOOOOOOOOL
Is the S/PDIF loop an actual physical cable loop? Meaning does your computer output S/PDIF, then you run it through an optical cable and then back through the UAD?
My question exactly - cannot find any info on the topic - did you learn anything since asking this? Thanks!
@user-bo8ex4ji7n no luck :/
Hi musicx why don’t I see my gain button on my channel strip I can’t activate my phantom power thanks in advance I’m using Apollo 16
very helpful, many thanks!
Ear training...am I hearing harshness in the sibilance range?
How do I turn off the khz signal that keep popping up on my console channel one ...I don't know what I did it come on rite away 😢

Why don't I see the «sends» section under «inserts», I only see AUX? this drives me nuts
How to connect with streamlabs ? Because streamlabs check only output from output line 1 & 2

If you gain stage properly sm7 is the best mic especially if u run it through Neve pream. Increase the volume way up and sing a bit far away from mic.

Why does my microphone sound muffled on the Apollo console?help
User error. You may have a bad mic, a bad cable, and so on.
can you sue the uad console with the volt 2

My UAD Apollo duo 2 is no output bashing my head for a week now
