    Awesome sound at takeoff! And love the old mirror-polished steel reflecting the sky on the wings...

    Love the sound of those MD80’s. Kind of like an older model vacuum cleaner sound. I really miss them.

    I prefer flying on an MD-80 over a 737!

    • @calvinrovinescu6166
      @calvinrovinescu6166 9 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      +Phillip Branch Much more exciting than the 737!

    • @DJPenguino51

      I like the JT8D engines on the MD80. No other engine has a cooler spool-up sound which transitions to a nice buzz saw when takeoff thrust is applied!
      As much as I like the Boeing 737, the MD80 has character... and the seating is more comfortable as well. The new 737 MAX, while being more fuel efficient, sounds like an electric leaf blower when it takes off. :)

    This video is by far one of the best videos on youtube for amazing engine sound. Do you happen to remember the registration #? I'm pretty sure this is a legacy AA MD-82. Awesome video!

    • @phillipbranch8291
      @phillipbranch8291  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, I didn't get a good look at the registration number. Sorry. I'll be sad to see the MD-80 series disappear. They are good, reliable, and dependable aircraft!

      @@phillipbranch8291 Ah it's all good, after all this video was published in 2014 which was already 4 years ago, I didn't expect you to remember it. Yeah it's a shame and I well agree with you!

    • @phillipbranch8291
      @phillipbranch8291  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gabesuper80 I prefer flying on the MD-80 series to a 737. Not near as squeezed in. Delta still has a good number of MD-80's in service but they'll begin withdrawing them from service in the next few years. Douglas built some really good aircraft in their time. Have you seen a you tube video entitled "Racing the storm: The crash of AA 1420?" I well remember the night it went down at the Little Rock airport.

    • @phillipbranch8291
      @phillipbranch8291  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, for the majority of airplane videos I've uploaded I used the video recorder in my Motorola Droid Maxx phone. There are 2 other videos, one of a Southwest 737-700 departing Little Rock and the other of the same flight arriving at Dallas Love Field that I used a Nikon D7000 DSLR camera.

    • @lolpo555
      @lolpo555 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Phillip Branch As far as I could see, both video cameras are awesome, plus one of ur cameras is a PRO Nikon, so it's synonym of high quality. I really appreciate your answer. Thanks!.

    John, I'll be sad to see the "Mad Dog" go as well. I think AA plans to have them gone by sometime on 2017. I actually find the MD a more comfortable aircraft to travel in than a 737.

    • @phillipbranch8291

      Yes, I noticed that those Pratt & Whitney JT8Ds make a unique noise when rolling out for takeoff, kind of a throbbing sound. The MD-80 is in the process of being phased out of service by American Airlines and I wanted to get one last trip on one before they are phased out and replaced by A319s.

    • @gabesuper80
