This video brings back memories when I flew SAN-DFW-HSV-DFW-SAN to go to Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama. MD-80s all the way except for DFW-HSV, which was an ERJ-145 because the scheduled MD-80 had a broken seal around the window. Fantastic memories :) thanks for posting
Last I remember (because I flew into DFW several times), was because of construction. The north bridge over Int'l Pwy (south side) was under repairs. So was the south bridge over Int'l Pwy (south side). Not sure why, but both these bridges were closed. Glad you like the shot!
this gives you an idea how big dfw is when it takes 5 minutes just to get to the runway lol love it when we go on the bridge over the cars a great sight.
My favorite starts at 5:10 when given permission to enter runway. Usually it's position and hold, here they are given permission for immediate take off. You can hear the captain revving up the engines while turning to straighten out.
Should call the video "American Airlines Boeing MD80 - taxi at Dallas-Fort Worth" since we spent 5 fucking minutes on the taxi and all of 2:10 on actually take off and flying.
Does anyone remember the 1987 crash of NW flight 255 (MD-82) out of Detroit Metro, enroute to Orange County, CA. with an intermediate stop in PHX??? Shortly after rotation the A/C stalled & crashed killing 154 (4 year old girl survived). NTSB said flight crew failed to set flaps & slats for takeoff. Can you imagine sitting in seat 29F and realized, too late, that there were no flaps extended for takeoff!!!! The crew failed to use the taxi checklist & elect. pwr to takeoff warning sys failed
Yahoo I hear a small one in the background.. put on the headset and crank it! LOL just kidding.. I have been in and out of that airport many times myself!! Good show musico!! RR RR
...no it doesn't All of the 7x7 variants, (excluding the 717 and the 727) have engines mounted on the wings so that they hang below. The MD80 (McDonnell Douglas, not Boeing) has the engines mounted on the rear part of the fuselage.
Actually, they did manage to squeeze in six-abreast in DC-9s several years after their launch due to demand from customers(airlines thst is). I don't think it was ever done in MD-8x. I cannot imagine how uncomfortable it must have been in a cabin only 10' wide!
Folks this is a MD80 I've flown many from the same position this was filmed from. You would still be able to see the back of the engine beneath that wing if this was a 737 or A320 for that matter.
Pilot: Dallas departure this is AA1701 at runway 36 Right ready to go Tower: AA1701 cleared for takeoff This was all done before the Hold line I love when they do this without stopping
In all of it's time, it should always be the McDonnell Douglas MD-80. Anyway, daaaaaang, talk about the buzzsaw sync during takeoff. You will never get to experience this on a modern aircraft.
Nope, simply pointing out that Boeing had nothing to do with the MD80, besides keeping the production line running for two years after they bought MDC. True story, Boeing's website used to call the DC-8 a past Boeing product.
fly by wire, annoying PTU, side stick controls, flaps control has numbers 1-2-3, instead of degrees, and it is not uncommon for airbus to have a mechanical problem. There you go.
I do not dislike Kias, Volkswagens, or BMWs, just airbus because their aircraft are as good of quality as Boeing or Douglas, and their safety record is not as good as Boeing, and I hate the whole side-stick instead of a yoke. I also do not appreciate their smartass comment about "(The A350) did not have rivets from Wal-Mart; it was a real aircraft with real rivets and everything else is real as well." Also, airbuses are just plain weird. Nothing against you.

Nothing beats the mighty MD-80
THE THING I LUV COMPLETLY ABOUT THE MD-80S ARE THE BEAUTIFUL ENGINE SOUNDS I THINK NO ENGINE CAN BEAT THAT SOUND
You have captured the MD-80 experience with excellence!
Yes Captain turn that curve and gun it!! The sound of this engine can put me to sleep. Awesome
I'll miss these planes! Great birds, especially if you're sitting forward of the wings.
Last I remember (because I flew into DFW several times), was because of construction. The north bridge over Int'l Pwy (south side) was under repairs. So was the south bridge over Int'l Pwy (south side). Not sure why, but both these bridges were closed.

The sound in the video is incredible.
WOW!! Great Video And Sound!! Thumbs Up!!!!!
I love the sound of the JT8D. I try to fly airlines that fly MD80s just for the sound. Seriously!
I was based at SAN as a flight attendant/purser....40 years total... man, you were almost all the way back there! :)
OH HOW I miss that sound!!! *SIGH*
Cool PSA Livery plane!
I worked at the US Airways E-gates for about a year. Looking into a job with Republic up at ORD now...
I ♥ that screaming buzz - i could sleep right beside it !
I love how low the wing are it makes it look smooth!
1:12 Engines 1 & 2 synchronization!!
It was actually because it was a single engine taxi with the left engine on, but then the right engine started mid-taxi at 1:12
beautiful engine sounds wonderful start up
Gotta love those P&W JT8D
Great video ty for sharing
Awesome video, love the mad dog! Seems like on every one of these plane videos there is a damn crying baby though.
How did you find the rare US Airways livery paint? That is neat!

Flying on a md80 from dfw to reno on 22 july 2013 non stop. Can't wait to go....:)
What kind of camera did you use? Awesome video by the way! Thumbs up!!!!
Should call the video "American Airlines Boeing MD80 - taxi at Dallas-Fort Worth" since we spent 5 fucking minutes on the taxi and all of 2:10 on actually take off and flying.
m8 i will 1v1 u IRL
Yes Dallas Dash Fort Worth airport. Where are you? Feel like you’re driving to your destinations.
GLORIOUSLY humming..love these..but old ass plane

Awesome sound amazing quality i wish i was there in real life!!!
5:27 Gotta love those P&W engines and their buzzsaw sound...I'm going on one tomorrow
Yahoo I hear a small one in the background.. put on the headset and crank it! LOL just kidding.. I have been in and out of that airport many times myself!! Good show musico!!

RR
Correct - I recognize the distinct MD-80 sound
737 has a different one :)
LONG LIVE THE MD-80 SERIES!!!
The good old days, when you where safe in a airplane.
The title said Boeing, I expected to see a plane falling apart. Moving on
that was fun thanks
i have alot of happy memories as a kid at DFW
What terminal was your plane at?
It's a retro colour scheme on that Airbus. They do that quite a lot.
Man, you're way back there. Row 30... 35? It can get pretty loud back there at low altitudes 'cause you're like just a few feet from the engine.
Boeing MD80??? When did McDonell Douglas & Boeing merge??
...no it doesn't All of the 7x7 variants, (excluding the 717 and the 727) have engines mounted on the wings so that they hang below. The MD80 (McDonnell Douglas, not Boeing) has the engines mounted on the rear part of the fuselage.
i flew out of dfw and it seems like it took 4eva to get to main runways for take off..
How old is this video?
McDonnell Douglas and Boeing merged in 1997. When they merged, the MD-95, which was the successor to the MD-80 and MD-90, became the Boeing 717.
I'm pretty sure that's runway 36R. Nice video though!
How can there be a seat F in a cabin narrower than a 727-737-757?
Actually, they did manage to squeeze in six-abreast in DC-9s several years after their launch due to demand from customers(airlines thst is). I don't think it was ever done in MD-8x. I cannot imagine how uncomfortable it must have been in a cabin only 10' wide!
Not bad. I enjoyed my flight. DFW is intimidating the first time you fly in if you have to change terminals.
hm, why do you call mcdonnell douglas boeing?
love the mad dog 80
That buzzing would drive me insane
Just a little closer to the front and the buzzing ain't so bad
The video actually makes it seem louder than it really is. It's loud in that seat, but it's not extremely loud.
We had a very nice flight to reno. we prefer reno then vegas. the flight was about 2.5 hrs.
That pulsing rhythm of the engine.... sounds like a slight imbalance...
Damn! when he starts to power up the engine for takeoff it sounds like an RV/Electric Current
@TexasMan77 Yay I love older plane like the MD-80
@anush10 Technically they are leaf blowers
I flew on American MD-80 from PHX-DFW SFO-DFW and DFW-PHX in 2009
I love sound take off
This is clearly an MD-80. There aren't any canoes on the wings, a feature very prominent of 737s.
Wonderful!
Now if only crying babies could be banned from commercial aviation...
Folks this is a MD80 I've flown many from the same position this was filmed from. You would still be able to see the back of the engine beneath that wing if this was a 737 or A320 for that matter.
FYI Boeing doesnt make the MD-80's McDonell Douglas does. ;)
5:09 Seriously the cars have to listen to all that noise right over them and how is there a bridge strong enough for planes
Pilot: Dallas departure this is AA1701 at runway 36 Right ready to go
Tower: AA1701 cleared for takeoff
This was all done before the Hold line
I love when they do this without stopping
You can name an MD a Boeing after the MD-95.
The rest before them are ONLY MDs
wow... the're no mountains like in Puerto Rico... impressive...
MD-80 is not a Boing it's a McDonnell Douglas DC-9
The color scheme on the shitbus is PSA (Pacific Southwest Airlines) livery.
not a 737 its a McDonell Douglas MD 80 not a Boeing, you can tell from the engine sounds they are different.
How about a turboJET instead of FAN
@GeneralKenobiSIYE Agreed
0:23 Reminds me of pre-USAir Allegheny livery.
kolkyoko: Why do you refer to it as "shit"bus?
4:54 takeoff starts
Boeing purchased McDonnell-Douglas in 1997. So the aircraft are now known as Boeing MD-80.
Wait a sec. Hold on. 29F? Shirley, you meant 29E.
@BillyASmith7 I Agree
Guys chill, the Super 80 aint going anywhere. AA has 275 of them and new planes dont come cheap. AA has leases on them until 2024.
There is, listen closely at about 6:36
Ooh i got 3 likes! Thanks for letting me know!!
In all of it's time, it should always be the McDonnell Douglas MD-80. Anyway, daaaaaang, talk about the buzzsaw sync during takeoff. You will never get to experience this on a modern aircraft.
they sound like leaf blowers lol
You've misspelled McDonnell Douglas.
Nope, simply pointing out that Boeing had nothing to do with the MD80, besides keeping the production line running for two years after they bought MDC.
True story, Boeing's website used to call the DC-8 a past Boeing product.
YUUUUUUUUP!
instead of recording between 0:00 and 5:00, you should have recorded these 5 minutes in flight.
The ignorance and incompetence runs strong in this comment section..............
5:16
flaps: check. slats: check. crying baby: check. stinky diaper: check
pilot: crying baby , check. ready to go.
My favorite is 5:20/5:21
Not a Boeing. Never a Boeing. Ever.
Thank you. Thank you very much.
Nathan Smith Boeing brought MD series
MrScoopoo10 I don't care. This is a Douglas design and product.
its okay this is a design and product but the company it self is from Boeing eg Mojang is part of Microsoft now
Ha I love the 737 but if prefer it over one of the best aircraft of all time, your crazy
its a McDonald douglas not a boeing
@mboz38 I know, 5 mins of taxxing. WICKED.
fly by wire, annoying PTU, side stick controls, flaps control has numbers 1-2-3, instead of degrees, and it is not uncommon for airbus to have a mechanical problem. There you go.
Boeing is the best!!!!!

it doesnt count as a boeing airplane since boeing werent the original designers
Nah thats from a 737
The 737 has the engines behind the wings nerd
boeing did not this plane only mcdonald dugols
American Airlines hub
Name 5(five) things you don't like about Airbus products....
