***** I play the britons though and i read on TW forums that the issue is that barbarian forces have some kind of pathfinding bug which makes it stutter hardcore when you zoom in.The new patch notes say that this was adressed though so i might re-install to see how it is now.
He means that the game was riddled with bugs and did not look like the game they promised on release. Since then they have fixed most of the bugs but the game was still really disappointing and lacking in content.
Bjarni Steinar it was essentially the same thing on my play through. Just I could tell what they were trying to hide in the video, like poor combat animations.
+Mike.India.Echo Yeah for me as well but I saw many cases where textures, AI, animations and more was broken. I did not experience many game breaking bugs and thoroughly enjoyed the game for the first year but I got bored quickly because it lacked many features from previous titles.
They actually had some bows in the Battle of Teutoburg Forest.. During the actual battle, it was raining which caused the sinew strings to become slack, so they were unable to use them.
maybe because it was bugged out piece of shit then? Now not so much but the gameplay is still bad because of the combat engine and the campaign isn't really as fun as the old ones.
SeaNNy T I know a shame really CA used to be a honourable powerhouse maker of strategy games but now has fallen into a age of decay blood and rust like the roman empire I guess.
What happened to this game was that they fucked up and ran out of money. There's awesome stuff in there, it's just completely unfinished and full of game-wrecking issues.
Wow! So gritty and immersive! ™ I truly felt like I was there, fighting that battle with those brave soldiers! Creative Assembly™ truly outdid themselves with this masterpiece of the Total War franchise! I will definitely be picking up the DLC for this game! God bless
7:22 When the centurion yelled comon heroes as they charged i knew this game will forever be my favorite game of all time. Never was let down with a total war. It shaped my childhood and love for history.
they said they don't want you controlling the battle but using it as an orientation tool. Makes it much easier then scrolling through the map to find idle troops. Instead you go to the tactical overview, see they're out of combat, give them one quick click, and go back to the battle map adding finer detail.
Imo, the most sensible option would be a slider. To choose between 1 and at least 4 turns per year, so people who wanted to speed through history would be able to do so and those who wanted to make more decisions per year & become more attached to their agents and generals would be able to do so as well.
I played this on legendary it really does give a sense of ergencey when trying to concentrate on getting the Eagle cohorts out alive... it must have been terrifying for the legionaries
9:10 That arrow volley is just...how did those soldiers NOT rout from half of their unit being killed by fire arrows?! The execution of this game looks so brilliant and real. I felt chills watching this fight.
This is the battle that pretty much stopped Rome's advancement into Germany because their confidence was so shattered. I love in the beginning the quote from Augustus when he was cursing General Varrus for fucking up and getting so many legions killed due to his arrogance and refusal to listen to allies.
That was fu**ing the most epic battle I have ever seen in games! Probably better than anything in movies. Just incredible!! Thank you Creative Assembly for this game.
I can understand why there's no blood, so that it can have a lower age rating but if you want realism, then please creative assembly, make a blood pack like you did for shogun 2.
Not really, since 5 years later another major campaign was under way to reclaim the lost eagles, which was a major success with massive casualties on the german, and few on the roman side.
Before the marian reforms Rome did not have "professional" soldiers, they basically conscripted a large bulk of their own population who were forced to supply their own arms and armor. Adding to that, a large portion of the legionaires came from the Italian Allies and not Rome itself. Which is why the roman armies really start to come into their own after Italy is properly unified under Rome and the legions have become fully modernized.
with the other improvements they have done such as using navy ships in a land battle near a body of water and new factions to play as this is a vast change from the first rome. Also that new over head option is a nice change
The problem going along with industrial-war scenarios like WW2 or WW1 is, that there's also an economic aspect which never played a big role in TW before. Therefore, the gameplay would be completely different. I mean: Just imagine a WW2 Germany without Swedish iron, or even worse, the UK without convoi supplies. That's stuff that has to be handled ingame, making it even more complex...
3rd patch is when I started playing again (after uninstalling it). P3 really did smoothe a lot of things out, Patch 4 I started having more hangups, freezees, and crashes. Patch 5 fixed some of those (still playing/testing). They still have to fix siege AI, and some of the battle AI, as well as formations that turn and expose their flanks. Also the Cheer while your enemy routes is annoying and should be fixed. Provinces should be allowed to trade, and money traded should be able to put how much.
Being honest, I've been waiting for Rome 2 since I first played Rome Total War lol. Like the second I got done beating every single faction I was like "Okay when is Rome 2 coming out?"
You would give them an order during a fight and then take control of a soldier or artillery and the AI would follow your orders and you can do what you want while controlling the unit.
Strange to see how the "pre alpha footage" is actually better visually/graphicaly? and the performance looks really good compared to the released full game at this moment. The difference is HUGE!
I've played one Total War game before so I assumed it would have a similar amount of map time. I tend to enjoy the map because it's when the Just as Planned starts happening. Thanks.
Whats history is the Spartans were not alone but with about 11,000 other greeks. The Movie 300 is based off, of a comic book which represented a fantasy type battle of Thermopylae. Watch the Orginal "The 300 spartans" which was recorded in 1964. Now thats history.
I loled at the "They're trying to kill me!" line too, redonculous! It's like what was he expecting, for the barbarians to serve them cake and wine? I hope and expect them to change the selection phrases to like "histati at your command, cohorts at your command" etc.
The Battle was 300 spartans VS about 100,000-200,000 persians and the spartans also had 1000 foot soldiers with them but they retreated before they could even get into the fight
Loose/Tight Formation button, Guard Mode button and looks like some other abilities were present during this stage of development. Why did they remove them?
I hope Creative Assembly will finally sort out the animation delay of units between orders. You know, like when you give a different order to a running unit, they stop for a second, scratch their heads, look around, and then start running again. It's really annoying and units feel unresponsive.
Very true, but some developers make sequels because of the success of the previous Games, that success gives them a bigger budget, maybe a bigger team which would in time allow them to add new features that maybe they never had the possibility of including in previous entries. Stuff will always make the cut but if you go back and play the first Total War and then play Shogun 2, you'll notice that while mechanics and UI have been upgraded, the core game play is relatively the same...
Looks like they made the combat more realistic, for example the cavalry took a good amount of casualties from the archers at point blank range. I feel in the original something like that would not have been so damaging. Almost as if the combat leaned towards stats than reality. An arrow is an arrow, no matter if the man is on foot or on a horse. Really cavalry would be vulnerable to arrows seeing as how the horse is in danger too. Super excited, Creative Assembly you are my favorite!!!!!
its rome, carthage, the suebi, the gauls (dont remember their names in this),macedon, parthia, pontus,a southern british tribe (dont remember their names) and egypt
The legionaries enlisted for up to 20 years, so yes....they were professional soldiers. It was their full time job. As for them being not well drilled(as you put it), well I guess that was enough to wipe out both the Teutones and the Cimbri.
well, pre-alpha (this thing right here) looks 10 times better than this supposed to be release / beta version, which should have been better than this... problem is they turned everything down as it just didn't scale on average pc :(
Why does this look way better than the final version.. I remember getting hyped for the game cause it look dark and gritty, but they changed it to make it more arcade like (in my opinion). Thank god for GEM mod
This must have been scary for the Romans in the real battle
You think so?
Yeah like any other battle in history wasn’t scary at all

Why pre alpha is looking better than full version?
I think that they had to remodel it for some reason
+Michal41100 i think they butchered it to pieces and sold it separately as dlc. that's why it was so fucking unstable.
+Ramza Beoulve agree!
Unfortunately i can't enjoy these epic animations because everytime i zoom into the units i go from about 60fps to about 15 XD.

So epic. Got shivers down my spine

I love the final part where you run towards safety while Germanic tribes are charging from both sides.

Beat it with half of my army still intact, just keep running to your objective and engage the enemy only when you need to. All there is to it.
Just like it was in real life for the romans 😂

I have 1 nightmare and now Its debuted in a trailer 2000 years later.
So, when is this game getting released? Because the sorry excuse that you released isn't this game you showcased here.
What's different about the version of Teutoburg shown in this video and the version of Teutoburg in the current version of the game?

lol, I have never achived this kinda of in game graphic even with extreme 0-o
how do you get these graphics someone tell me? because my pc can run shogun 2 on ultra but Rome 2 looks like crap on ultra.
You don't. This was a mock up video, pre-rendered. False advertising at it's finest.

The amount of detail is incredible.

It's a nice strategic modulation of troops
8:30 the camera perspective was very good here. Pretty much sells this game for me.

LOL No problem Sir.
And yeah the Testudo Formation is freaking awesome.
Funny that this PRE-ALPHA looks a thousand times better than the full-release... I want this version of the game!!
Larger unit scale and more advanced campaign map, not to mention the apparently very entertaining combat
That is true, but the discipline and loyalty that these ancient legions and empires enforced upon their soldiers is astounding.
The problem going along with industrial-war scenarios like WW2 or WW1 is, that there's also an economic aspect which never played a big role in TW before. Therefore, the gameplay would be completely different.

no i meant TAKE CONTROL of the unit like playing as the soldier rather then telling him where to go
Is that Lemmy Killmister on a horse at 5:52???
I hope they do it i'd even like to see a WWII type one done with sudden strike type battles that would be dope

There is no fog of war, there is realistic eye sight. If there is a hill between you and the enemy, you can see them, and they can't see you.
