    • @PandasFinest
      @PandasFinest 8 ปีที่แล้ว +79

      Nah there is still springs pushing on the pins so if there was no springs then yes, turning the house upside down is probably the most efficient way

      @ConstantlyDamaged 8 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      +Darthane well... Every body better listen up cause we have just found the most effective way to get it out. The only other way would be to get the Death Star to blow up the lock... That might not be to good for the planet though

    • @ConstantlyDamaged
      @ConstantlyDamaged 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mc Panda Gamers Sometimes you need to make sure you have gotten the lock free, so really the deathstar could be your only solution, given you might not have a temporary gravity adjuster.

    If the lock is disabled for the tenant, then the landlord is in the same situation. Both would need to use the same methods entry after the lock has been disabled. I see no practical advantage to this product.

      +dog74586 If the properly locked-out tenant drills out the lock, then it's become breaking and entering plus criminal destruction of property. As long as the tenant had held a legitimate key and continued to properly occupy, the tenant wouldn't be clearly guilty of any crime just re-entering; putting physical means to block further access puts a stop to that part also.....

    • @Dutch_Prepper
      @Dutch_Prepper 8 ปีที่แล้ว +89

      +SuperCal Indeed.. You will end up with a disabled lock and a smashed $500 window, from the tenant who needed his stuff.

    How breaking the key inside going to help a landlord? They'll need to destroy the lock in order to replace it. They might as well install a new lock, which they'll need to do anyway, and re-use the existing lock somewhere else.
    The only use for the key is to annoy someone you don't like.

  • @marcusdudley7235
    @marcusdudley7235 8 ปีที่แล้ว +34

    Absolutely no legal reason for using one of these. If the tenant is legally evicted then you would just drill out the existing lock and install a new one. If the tenant is not legally evicted then doing this would be breaking the law and the tenant would prosecute you.

      Some areas have horrible laws, though, that greatly favour the tenant in unfair ways. At times, you have tenants who aren't complying with something that they are required to, and going the legal route can be expensive and time consuming. That's when this comes in handy. Generally speaking, though, you're probably right.

      He says it's impossible to remove without drilling the lock... not exactly true. A sufficiently thin triangle pick can actually remove it. It has to be ultra-thin to fit between the key and the lock itself, and resistant to bending to push each pin up over the lip... probably tungsten carbide, if they can make a piece of tungsten carbide that thin and precise.

  • @rodgerlongPatioCam
    @rodgerlongPatioCam 10 ปีที่แล้ว +194

    First off this DOES NOT PERMANENTLY DISABLE the lock. We locksmiths would have no trouble removing this stupid product. We wouldn't have to drill the lock to remove this
    Secondly: The Eviction Process
    A landlord must file a lawsuit in order to evict a tenant. The landlord cannot make a tenant move by turning off the utilities. Also, a landlord may not evict a tenant by locking the tenant out, changing the locks or removing personal property from the rental unit.

    I cannot think of a non-malicious use for this device.
    A landlord would be better served swapping out the lock cylinder (5 minutes with a cross-tip screwdriver). If, for legal or security reasons, the door could not be opened at that time, a doorknob overlock would be a better solution.
    Hotels with card-keys would simply re-issue a new key, cancelling the old one.

    So you buy this for however much, ruin the lock, and then have to hire a locksmith to eventually open the door. Seems cheaper to skip this thing and just pay a locksmith to rekey or replace the lock.
    Either way, a pissed-off tenant or whomever you're trying to keep out will get in if they want to badly enough. A 12 gauge will bypass this thing.

    Ok, so its a vandalism tool since any "landlord" would probably be able to re-core any lock they have.
    Also, its just binding on pin 4. Maybe a "key extractor" won't get it out, but any thin lock pick will, just push pin 4 up and out she comes.
    How about this: Superglue. that is all.

      +htomerif In some/most states, self-help evictions are not lawful, meaning the tenant would be within his rights to kick down the door and the landlord would have "dirty hands" in the eyes of the court. (Aka, the judge will view the dispute as one between two law-ignoring idiots, rather than a "good guy" and a "bad guy".)
      It looks like this might be a police/military tool. It is totally pointless if you have more than 5 minutes to kill the lock. And even as a military tool, a door lock can not be any stronger than the weakest point on the door. This maybe possibly might be used by the police, but it looks more like a vandalism tool.

    • @htomerif
      @htomerif 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      blkgardner Well, I can tell you from personal experience that pretty much every military door lock has gone over to the keys with the milled channel on the side, so this key wouldn't fit. As far as padlocks go, well.. everyone has universal padlock removal pliers anyway :P
      I think law enforcement has actual lockable (somewhat expensive) insertable tools.
      So yeah, this seems to be just a vandalism tool. Specifically a tool for mentally challenged vandals that somehow have a lot of expendable cash.

    I can bypass this easy enough. A broken key extractor is very thin and has a flat edge. Push that edge against the pins and push then all the up. Now nothing is holding the kill-key in. You may need a second broken key extractor to gram the kill-key if the bow has been snapped off.

    • @MrNateSPF
      @MrNateSPF 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Blaine Bugaski Yep, it is humorous the website promotes this $10 thing as saving the landlord $20 - $50. When in actuality it is adding more to the price, you need to pay for a new lock as this one is destroyed and now you can not even access the property. Wow you save the 2 min needed to change a lock right then, but it costs you a lot more time and money in the long run.

    • @rich1051414

      +MrNateSPF I think its more about giving tenants a big fuck you, by possibly making them waste their time trying to get through it gingerly. If the tenants destroy property to get in, it is their money to pay. A landlord would want to change the lock on the back door and key kill the front door, until everything is taking care of. It almost seems as if it is a tool to possibly entice tenants into destroying property, to lose their deposit. The landlord would have to change the locks anyway after evictions.
      Dangling an eviction notice from one of these would defiantly feel like a kick in the balls if it happened to me xD
      It would be incredibly useful in condos, where the landlord and tenant both have their own entrances into a property.

    • @Guillotines_For_Globalists
      @Guillotines_For_Globalists 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you think landlords change locks after people move out or are evicted? Most likely not. The same landlords that paint everything, including the vent covers and wood trim. I can't blame them either. I would want to save as much money as possible too.

      Many do have several sets of locks. Remember just because they are taking the locks out does not mean they need to be thrown away, rather they can be used the next time a lock switch is needed.

  • @twistdshade
    @twistdshade 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I could see this being useful if you own a business with a back door and one of your former employees has a copy of the key to that particular door.
    Or another use could be for something you never want opened again. Like a building that is scheduled to be demolished. The broken off key would mean it can't be opened with the correct key, or picked. Most alternative entry methods would leave obvious evidence.

    SO once the land lord has disabled the lock, how does the landlord access the property? Also, I think you could extract it if you lift each pin in succession or use a pick with a diamond or 45* end to allow the pins to ramp up over the straight cut.

  • @Trueshotfirearms
    @Trueshotfirearms 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I was a locksmith for 20 yrs. This is a tool that will make it very costly for the property own. You have a trip call plus drill cost and then you have the new lock cost and the keying every other lock on the property to match new keys. Most locksmiths will tell you to just call them and let them go out and do a lockout if it is a business and in most states if it is residential you have to go through the eviction process that the law mandates. Using an item like this will most likely be x however many outside doors there are. So as a professional I would never recommend this product at all.

  • @keayrhyasen3071

    the only purpose i see for this Lock Kill key is as an act of vandalism. if you're a Landlord and you go through legal channels and get your judgement, the Police will show up with the Court Documents stating it's Illegal to enter the property and at that point, you can Legally re-pin the locks. any Landlord who uses this tool on it's tenants without the judgement, will be in jeopardy of turning the courts against them should the tenant file a claim in court not to mention, now the Landlord has to get the lock replaced since the broken off key can't be extracted. on top of that, there are usually more than one door entry points to a residence so you're going to disable them all? they can't get in and now, neither can you as the Owner of your own property.
    what i can see happening here is the tenant who's either behind in rent or mad at the Landlord, breaks the door and jamb to re-gain entry. now the Landlord has another issue to fix in addition to the lock... and that's only IF the tenant feels bad about not having the money and not going off and damaging a whole lot more inside.
    if you want to lock a tenant out, pick the lock, re-pin and leave them a note saying you'll let them in when the rent is paid... but even that's not legal in most states.
    i don't see any real purpose in this key other than malicious. sorry.

      If they're not broken, they can be sold. Ebay, Amazon, Craigslist, etc. But I think this product has a legitimate purpose. Keeping former tenants out in between lock changes is one. Preventing a lock from being pickable is another. This is an easy and fast way to convert a back or side door so that it can't be unlocked from the outside, so that the visible front door is the only way in. Still, $20 is ridiculous when the existing key can be converted to a trap key with a file. This is marketed to the ignorant who can't be bothered to learn how a key works.

    Wow does he think we have no knowledge of anything? The way he explains every single very simple thing like we have lived in a padded cell all our lives is infuriating, reminds me of american cable tv documentaries.
    It really is a stupid product anyway as all the comments below say, and way overpriced for what it does, since changing the locks would be a much better solution since you will have to anyway, and if you are half decent at DIY can do it yourself and then you have a lock you can use another time.

    nice explanation of the "lock keel"

    Kwikset (and Weiser) smartkeys which use the 66 blank as seen above don't have typical pins, which I'm pretty sure would not catch it

      That being said you could just rekey the lock if it's a smartkey because it only takes seconds.

    What are the practical reasons I would want one of these?

    All you need is a little steel drill and drill the key through.
    Depending on the lock there might be enough gap for this still extractor to get into lift the pins.
    I would also try bumping on the core while pulling the key out after each bump.

    I don't get it. If I want to keep my tenant out, wouldn't I just change the lock. Wouldn't using this key keep me out as well?

    So ...how do you get back in if you do the all the doors ?

    Most people dont know how to get a broken key out anyway. Why not use a cut key that is a different bitting, break it off, the plug won't turn, but the key can still be removed with an extractor. But the, there is a way using a thin shim the can be used to reach beside this lock-kill key and lift the affected pin stack. It can be done. And it can save a lock especially if it is an expensive lock. You dont want to use tooth picks or super glue or anything that will ruin the lock. All you want to do is temporarily prevent access until you change the lock or repin it.

    There's a pinning method that traps the previous key ie the one the tenant ex-lover etc. has. Also a core extractor would be preferable to a drill after using that suicide key

    This would've been so useful. We once had tenants and they didn't pay rent, but we couldn't just change the locks (that's illegal in Colombia) or anything really, but I'm sure this would've come in handy.

    But they'd still need to unlock it to achieve removing the key, but how so from a double dead bolt type lock?

    This could actually be useful. However on a euro cylinder it would prevent egress.
    The East German STAZI had a similar device that was reversible, which was used while inside an apartment, to block the key working from the outside while they did whatever spy stuff they were up to. A built-in lever lifted the trapping pin clear for removal.

    does it permanently disable it or does it permanently enable the lock??
